Oh I do hope so, @PandoraSox That would brighten up my week considerably.

PandoraSox · 30/03/2025 21:58

How could they not see it!

It’s not a matter of not seeing it. It’s a blatant copy of the old slogan…

Zonder · 30/03/2025 22:01

The memes are as predicted!

Loads of them popping up now on the hell site. It is funny, but not so much fun for Savile's victims.

I wonder who came up with the idea and whether they will still have a job tomorrow.

cardibach · 30/03/2025 22:15

They can try to blame it on an intern or junior staff member but…Farage et al are all of an age to remember it. There’s no excuse.

DuncinToffee · 30/03/2025 21:43

😬this is real, from their conference

Now then, now then 😬

BIossomtoes · 30/03/2025 23:58

I thought my eyes were deceiving me for a moment. How on earth did nobody spot and veto that? Just how?

Posting a random comment from a website, no matter what side of the political divide, is meaningless. It's just an opinion. And we all know what opinions are like.

You do see the irony in your comment, I hope.

In this case, opinion which has garnered x hundred upticks, on a left-wing platform.

No, I will stick with the credence I attach to it thanks - evidently many others have too.

Saucery · 31/03/2025 06:42

That slogan! 😱😄

Efacsen · 31/03/2025 07:00

This thread has become quite bizarre - again - even without the Reform/Savile content- so think I'll give it a miss again today

.

Zonder · 31/03/2025 07:41

Sorry to hear that @Efacsen

Yes. It's like judging a book by a comment made by a year 10 student that "it's boring" and having a few dozen other year 10 students agree with them. Always best to go back to source. The actual real source.

MyNameIsX · 31/03/2025 07:43

Britain has seen the fastest rise in people claiming health and disability benefits in the rich world, analysis by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) shows.

The share of Britain’s working-age population claiming welfare because of sickness or disability rose by more than a quarter between 2019 and 2023, as official projections indicate that Labour’s welfare reforms will not be enough to reverse a post-lockdown surge.

The increase in claims has been much faster than in other developed nations, including Denmark and France, where overall government spending is much higher.

Anyone with any theories as to why this is the case?

Nice that you're reading my comments enough to stick your 😂 emoji on, X. I'm afraid I'm not repaying the compliment. I shall assume that the laugh is a compliment of course.

Please take it as a compliment, as you made me smile over my first cup of Blue Mountain this morning.

I am otherwise trying to behave more in keeping with the ‘guidance’ that you and some of your fellow posters have dictated on this thread.

I hope its working.

BIWI · 31/03/2025 08:06

Thank you for the link @MyNameIsX - I hadn’t seen that piece because (call me old fashioned) I don’t read The Guardian online, but get the actual paper delivered, and that article is in today’s paper.

Reading the actual paper obviously means I don’t see the comments. And I have to say that I have some sympathy with the one that you posted. I think some of it is rather hyperbolic, but I’m very unhappy about the current round of cuts. I’d far rather see tax increases for the wealthier in society, rather than what seems to be targeting the most vulnerable.

I think we are all pretty well aware of the reasons, which are complex. You have also given a good airing of your (not so complex) opinions of why there has been a big rise.

Labour is basing its policy on the same mistaken thinking as you. It won't work. It won't save the money it aims to (Cf. Osbornes failed £12m savings) and there are unintended consequences which will be very expensive for the taxpayer.

That is all I have to say to you on the matter. Off out into the sunshine🌞.

I will just add this, X.

Your cut and pastes seem to come mostly from the Telegraph, which is now the Daily Mail for people who think they are a cut above. This shit is nothing better than click/rage bait. Sensitive imaged for those who don't want to see such blatant twisting of facts designed to stir up hatred towards disabled and ill people.

Have a lovely day.

That's interesting @PandoraSox - and of course some people will get enraged by what they say and not think beyond the headline.

Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2025 08:27

As for the c and p from The Guardian - we all know some to the left and on the left of Labour are very unhappy. This has been discussed fairly lengthily on this thread. Someone once tried to start a left wing thread - and it got ruined by lots of bad faith posters. It seems you are not allowed to be a socialist and discuss your views.

Since it is clear you are not a socialist x, I can only assume your post form The Guardian is simply an act in bad faith to rile and goad other posters

Why not get rid of the embedded links and post the relevant link to the article instead?

The bottle dripping on to the stat about alcohol misuse is a particularly vile touch.
