Yay to Bournemouth! Love it when Haaland can’t score.

<ups the jeopardy>

Oh no, I was being roaringly, unimaginably abusive. 🙄

No, you were being sneery. I'm surprised you didn't realise that.

countrygirl99 · 30/03/2025 17:32

It always amuses me when people talk about Gordon Brown's chanes to pension fund taxationbut never mention that in the 1980s most large pension funds took a complete holiday fromemployer contributions ( while there was no change to employee contributions).
There's more than one poster on this thread with financial qualifications and experience.

Don't worry. We're rubbish. Even if we've just equalised.

BIWI · 30/03/2025 17:41

… and by the foot of Haaland too. Bugger.

SIL lives in Cardiff @cardibach so sounds like a good trip next time we visit her.

The exhibition is until sometime next month. The cave obvs permanent! Events conspired against DD and me and we didn’t make it up there today.

BIWI · 30/03/2025 17:57

Looks like the chippy tea is on @ilovesooty!

Rummly · 30/03/2025 16:46

That’s not what I’ve been seeing.

And, anyway, Trump’s actions were known or, at the very least, expected for a long time.

Reeves’s infamous ‘headroom’ is dictated by the official figures. Including the OBR’s. She cut a further £500m from benefits to stop the ceiling falling on her. No other reason.

How very odd that no news or commentary backs you up. One might almost think you were attempting to hoodwink us. You wouldn’t do that though, would you?

I know that many of you will have missed me (humour alert) but I was out enjoying the glorious sunshine.

Happily, I am back.

Meanwhile, the highest-rated comment on one of today’s Guardian’s pieces…

It's the arrogance of the makers of these latest "tough decisions" that really makes it worse. A cabinet of millionaires taking freebies and donations in the £1000's have the fucking gall to gaslight and say they are making the "moral" case for sending an estimated 250,000 people into poverty by the end of their parliament by cutting the support network for the poorest and most vulnerable before taxing the rich.

At the same time they're happily keeping the rest of austerity and the criminalisation of protest that occurred under the Tories (unless you drive a tractor of course). While seemingly wanting to outperform the far right in immigration and anti trans cruelty also. So much for the promised "change".
I fully expect the PASSOKification of Labour at the next election with millions of votes less than before. 12 months in and they're already cooked. Nothing but a supine servant of the interests of the richest over everyone else and they will be punished for it in due course. Whats comes next will be even worse.

Ouch.

DuncinToffee · 30/03/2025 18:24

Enjoy!

I did thank you! Both Tolkien and little Tennyson had a little bit of fish and Tennyson expressed partiality to a chip as well. He had a tiny bit of cream and choux pastry from the reduced chocolate éclair I picked up on the way home.
Now we're waiting to see what the date of the semi final is - that will affect whether or not we will be able to get to Wembley.

PickAChew · 30/03/2025 20:40

The perfect celebratory feast, @ilovesooty 🎂 (and all sadly lacking in the emoji selection - plastic fries won't do!)

PandoraSox · 30/03/2025 20:55

My dearly departed cat loved a chip, she'd fight you for one.

Zonder · 30/03/2025 20:57

Our car won't eat anything that looks like food. Just Go Cat and Dreamies. We got her some fresh mackerel for the first birthday we had her - what a waste! I genuinely don't think she recognised it as food.

pointythings · 30/03/2025 21:05

One of mine likes cake. All cake has to be stashed in a cake box or he'll be right in it, and it's so bad for himl

@MyNameIsX

I have been out with DH and DS2 for mother’s day, and have had far too much wine. Could you post the source, so I can read it properly tomorrow?
TIA

It appears to be the bottom half of the Internet, again. The equivalent of taking a random post off reddit or twitter.

pointythings · 30/03/2025 21:34

Posting a random comment from a website, no matter what side of the political divide, is meaningless. It's just an opinion. And we all know what opinions are like.

Araminta1003 · 30/03/2025 21:40

I have had a lovely Mother’s Day and did shed loads of gardening and the DCs all did loads of chores for us, so win win.
Interesting discussion re Mother’s Day and loss. It must be extra hard for anyone who lost a baby as well as a mother.

I read an interesting article about Quantitative Tightening and how we are the only ones doing it actively pretty much and how most other countries are doing it passively. A lot of our issues seem down to how we are accounting. Anyone care to comment on QT and whether it is an actual issue in the way we are doing it? I do not have a degree in Economics so cannot pretend to really understand it fully.

I second that. I assume it is a btl (below the line) anonymous comment on a Guardian piece. So about as significant as any post on MN.

Glad you had fun BIWI.

I checked, it's all over Reform's social media, they really went with it.

The fact that no one realised what a bad idea this was speaks volumes. I bet there are a million memes already.
