It clearly does flood @WinterFrogsas it has two sump pumps! I have no idea if they are working, either...

JingsMahBucket · 12/04/2025 05:05

Howdy all. I’m slinking back into this thread and catching up on reading the most recent posts. We have NY friends coming to visit us tomorrow so we’re in major cleanup and repair mode across apartment. I’ll be back at a more decent hour after I finish reading all the posts.

Peridot1 · 12/04/2025 10:45

Morning all. And evening all for those in different time zones!

Lovely morning here but due to cloud over soon.

We had impromptu garden drinks with our neighbours yesterday evening which was so nice.

I was slightly thwarted in my emptying pots plan for a bit yesterday as DH decided to hose down all of the chairs right in front of the pots. But I did manage to do some. Will finish today.

Today’s plan:

  • laundry - one sleeping bag done and on line
  • dishwasher (done)
  • vacuum and wash floors in hallway
  • clean downstairs cloakroom
  • clean other window sill in kitchen
  • order more moth traps

Have a good day all.

Hi everyone else 👋 Loving the snapshots! That cellar space is amazing @Aria999 We have a decent sized loft, which is tidy and organised now, but at one time you could barely move in there.
Love that horseshoe @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia I feel that your home and garden are very quirky.

You are all such an inspiration to me. We are still going through layers. The garden is our current focus. We've taken a shed down and most of it is at the tip now. It was a bit of a ground force situation as our family all helped. I was mostly keeping an eye on the small ones and making the refreshments.
The three year old and I have planted some seeds.
I have also ordered a few clothes online as I was seriously in need. Some of my search terms have prompted actual useful ads on here. It's frighteningly easy to order online now - luddite that I am, I hadn't realised!

We are mostly free of Other People's Stuff now. I've told them their lives will be easier when we peg it or become incapacitated if we only have what we actually need around here.
I aspire to be like my lovely late father, and sort out tools properly and in an organised fashion in a new, smaller shed. And I want my own toolbox as I can never find anything amongst DHs bits and bobs. To be kept under lock and key!

I have projected and family'd today so feeling all at peace with life. And now I am off to help with the horses, who are an absolute delight. As are the people involved. I'll come home all fresh air tired, which I hope will help to reset my sleeping pattern away from 2am wake ups.
Best wishes to you all ☕️ 🍰💐

Enjoy your day @WinterFrogs, sounds lovely!

WinterFrogs · 13/04/2025 07:42

Thank you @Aria999 it was! And I was very weary so slept well.
I have bought a pillow speaker. Woke at midnight and set it to listen to an audiobook for an hour (The Museum Of Ordinary People by Michael Gayle if anyone's interested) I only heard the first chapter so that's a win. Only problem is that it has to be up louder than I'd choose as I have Dh in the other ear, variously snoring and heavy breathing. Good thing I love him!
Hope you are all having a lovely weekend. @petalpower hope all is well as it can be with you and yours.
All the project kids must be on Easter holidays now? Hope it's fun for everyone! We're doing an Easter trail today ( a week early but it's on for the fortnight)
Are you feeling any better @SpiritOfEdna ?
Looks like the weather is turning this week but it's been glorious so can't complain. I'm very happy about the lack of mud but the farmer was saying if it doesn't rain soon there'll be no grass to cut for hay in the summer.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 13/04/2025 08:11

Morning!

Glorious day here again which i hope to make the most of. Like @WinterFrogs the weather is meant to turn here next week.

So, today back to B&Q for some hanging baskets. I woke up in the middle of the night and realised where I could put them. Then I am going to make up a picnic and take the DCs to the beach. DH is doing his Manly Mumsnet Hobby.

We are away overnight this week so I also need to get the house in order as we arrive home late Wednesday and our lovely cleaner comes Thursday.

Hope everyone has a great day!

petalpower · 13/04/2025 09:47

Back from our week away on holiday now which was lovely. Only in the UK and not too far from home but it was a good break and the weather was fab. I don’t know why there’s always so much to do when you get back from a trip? Lots to catch up on and also get ready for a round of guests, a mix of family and friends who are staying for the next week. It looks like the weather is due to become more unsettled but we really need the rain. The garden is so dry and I’ve been watering the vegetable garden already. I really must get into the greenhouse and plant some seeds as I’m very late with that this year.
I’ve been very bad at posting on this thread recently - I always read what you’ve all been doing but don’t get round to posting myself. Must try harder!

WinterFrogs · 13/04/2025 16:06

Are you making up your hanging baskets or do you buy them planted up @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ?
I am not a natural gardener and this year I have decided to baby step it. Some previous owners of our house made the garden lovely but it has had some neglect since. So we are unearthing bits of old greenhouse, what looks like old pond equipment and dealing with brambles. In the main it is tidy but fence lines and corners aren't good. The gardener did some heavy duty digging and clearance last year and we hope to keep on top of it. It also needs to be safer for the children to play in. I'm going to plant up one pot at a time. DH was going to mow the lawn today but it's threatening to rain.
Lovely to 'see' you again @petalpower l hope you enjoyed your break. You are brave having house guests. My excuse is that the house isn't big enough, but in all honesty, DH and I both prefer to see people away from home. We offer same courtesy when we visit DS in his European city though, and stay in a hotel. It works for us, because we're antisocial old gits, though I'd love to be the entertaining types!

OP posts:
SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 13/04/2025 18:46

Welcome back @petalpower ! The weather has been wonderful!

I am an antisocial old git too @WinterFrogs . In fact a few years back I got cross and skipped all the spare beds and turned the spare bedroom into a playroom for the Dcs. I have a strong memory that this featured in an earlier Daily Project thread!!

I am not a natural gardener at all. I always say I love gardens, but hate gardenening. I got the hanging pots already planted up with pansies. I'll go and take a photo ..... back in a sec......

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 13/04/2025 18:58

I bought three and they are hanging off the denuded branches of a very ancient holly tree.

The Dcs and I had a bet if DH would even notice (they are right at our entrance). Not really a bet, because we all bet he would not. He did not. But once pointed out he made encouraging noises! 😆

Daily Project round 7
petalpower · 13/04/2025 23:09

Looking forward to our guests. My brother and SIL- both going through tricky times sorting out parents houses and general affairs due to dementia. Then old friends from childhood to stay which will be lovely too. No great expectations to entertain beyond relaxing and providing food and drinks!
Today seems to have been manic but if I wrote it down it would be less than impressive I’m sure:

  • two loads of washing and four baskets of ironing
  • booked flights for holiday later in the year
  • made ragu for lasagne for visitors
  • write Easter cards and letters for dad and stepmother
  • posted birthday card to SIL
  • tried on M and S order of clothes, organised pick up for unsuccessful part of order
  • changed bed for DS
  • hoovered and dusted whole house
  • sent emails to make appointment with dad’s care home when we next visit and try to find someone who might benefit from auntie’s radio (dementia friendly, barely used and quite pricey)
  • whatsapped various friends and family who are ill or having rotten times or just to catch up
Hope you’ve all had a good day!
mumofoneAlonebutokay · 14/04/2025 21:03

Hi all - I'm still following along the thread and love reading about what you're all up to

I love this thread and vow to be better at keeping up with it, sorry for being rubbish

I find everything so overwhelming sometimes, even though my days aren't packed with stuff - i think that the potential move is exhausting me

I'm having nightmares and feel super anxious. I'm leaving my hometown at 33, and keep on reliving the past. I've just been distracting myself with tv and dd

We went swimming today which she loved. She seemed to make a friend as well! The girl didn't seem to mind her being non speaking 🥺🥰, they just jumped in the pool together

I hope you're all well, and having a lovely start to the short week ❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/04/2025 21:24

Just a step at a time @mumofoneAlonebutokay 💕

I'm in pj's at 1:10pm still. 🙄
Go up this morning with great intentions despite another stupid head cold. Did the sinus rinse 😀, put together breakfast and my latte, both dc had massive #2's so diapers were brutal, 😱🤢, cleaned up toys, vacuumed -including both couches and moved one to get under/behind 🏆- put towels/washcloths on long hot bleach wash and then a second wash with vinegar that's just finishing. Was getting baby down for a nap when interrupted by Havoc 🤬 so baby was then wide awake an hour. 😭. Gave both dc some lunch then for the last 45 mins have been trying to get baby back to sleep and miraculously it has just happened 😅 so I'm going to quietly get dressed and sneak out to the garden centre. Should have done that yesterday, but day got away from me: took dc to Easter train/meet Easter Bunny which was a fair drive away, then lunch and a trip to buy a new duvet and cover and a Costco shop. Three loads clothes laundry then washed duvet cover and tossed duvet in dryer to remove who knows maybe dust and deadly germs, but I was too tired to steam it. By the time everything was done it was after 11pm. 😫😫😫
And now it's 1:24pm...🤦‍♀️

Aria999 · 14/04/2025 22:20

Wow @Mumtobabyhavoc crazy day!

Glad DD made a swimming friend @mumofoneAlonebutokay 😊. Moving is hard work anyway, worse if you have a high needs kid and no help! It will be good when it's over! When is the day?

lovely pansies @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia, lol at your DH. At least he is appreciative when prompted!

I took DH to buy himself some new jeans today, we went to a pizza restaurant for lunch and didn't do much else.

I need to find some more work this week, as usual am slightly dreading it. Google have just brought out an AI for Google sheets so I may be obsolete soon... not sure what you can do if your skill set ceases to be economically viable in late forties 😟

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/04/2025 06:36

Shopping and lunch sound like a pretty good day Aria. 😊

I made it to the garden centre!!!! 🤗
Bought Spanish lavender, a cherry tomato plant and a some herbs. Got into garden and turned over the soil/top soil and planted it all. Had a bit of help from Havoc then brought baby out to help plant some of the herbs. Last year's strawberry plants are sprouting and I decided to replant some rosemary and see how it does.

Both dc fell asleep shorty after baths, so I had mine them cleaned the bathroom and washed the floor.

Is anyone planning anything special for Easter? Special meals? I'll likely roast a duck, and do up some lamb chops and keep the sides simple and just roast or sautee veg. It's dessert I'm struggling to decide on. I'm thinking almond coffee cake with berries and whipped cream, but I also really love a good lemon or coconut cake and if I want either of those I need to order by Wednesday. 🤔

Peridot1 · 15/04/2025 12:05

Some great lists/jobs being done everyone.

I still haven’t done my brain dump list. So my head is feeling a bit swirly. I think I will prioritise that today. Might make me feel calmer.

Yesterday I went to a new class at the gym (and am feeling it today!), wrote an Easter card for MIL (DH has just posted it), did some laundry and that was about it. Oh researched some ideas for plants for the beds along our patio. Oh and booked a doorstep charity collection for next Friday so need to get everything ready to go which means a wardrobe clearout for me.

Today:

  • dishwasher - done
  • helped DH put supermarket shop away
  • replaced all the sticky moth traps upstairs
  • laundry
  • emptied upstairs bins as main bin goes out today
  • Finish Easter decorations (I do a few bits and pieces not loads)
  • maybe ironing
  • vacuum
  • do brain dump list

@Mumtobabyhavoc - we have a leg of lamb for Easter although we also have a turkey joint in the freezer so may use that at some stage. Have invited neighbours in for Easter Monday but it depends on what their adult children are doing. If I get to Costco this week we will have salmon at some stage too. I spotted a nice blueberry and lemon cake recipe I fancy trying too.

Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 15/04/2025 12:59

Morning. I am going to be home alone for part of Easter which I cannot wait for, I am making sure the house is gleaming so all I have to do is waft about and then lie on the sofa and read books. I am on a nutritionist devised meal plan so there will be no cake for me - your menus sound delicious Havoc and @WinterFrogs I am loads better thank you
Today:

  • empty cutlery drawers & pan drawer and get rid of all the crumbs
  • worktops and the underneath bit and the cupboard board trims
  • recycle coffee pods
  • clean hob
  • start a deep clean of the oven (take the doors off and clean them)
  • sweep kitchen floor and mop
and now I've moved rooms....
  • there's sand underneath the rug (!)
  • books under the TV stand need sorting
  • clean coffee table top and the chest
  • sort out the table i use when working downstairs
Am not moving at the moment, it's freezing and SpiritDoggo is cuddled up next to me keeping me warm 😄(But my god, she honks). have a good day, SoE
WinterFrogs · 18/04/2025 13:39

Hello all! @SpiritOfEdna I'm glad you're feeling better, and I hope you enjoy your peaceful weekend!
Loved catching up with everyone's busyness! @Aria999 I'm sorry you're feeling anxious about AI making you obsolete. DS is in similar line of work, and currently looking at ways of making AI work for him.
@mumofoneAlonebutokay I do love how little ones get on with making friends. They can teach us a thing or two!

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia I love your hanging basket!

👋 everyone else 💕

Lovely weather again! I've been a busy 🐸 Despite that, I'm looking at a very dusty TV table ( showing my age as the telly isn't on the wall) so i will see to that. And also, while I was doing something in the kitchen this week....stirring stew perhaps...I cleaned out the cutlery drawer! #takes a bow!

Proper projecting!

I have a free afternoon and I'm going to sort out some kind of capsule wardrobe. That is today's mission.

Happy Easter 🐰 🐣 💓

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/04/2025 19:54

SoE, a peaceful weekend sounds oh, so lovely!
I've just stopped/started a program I pvr'd at least 6x and finally gave up watching due to dc interrupting, baby taking tv control, changing diapers, cleaning up a mess, re-starting washing machine and a few other things. 😫
Froggy, my tv isn't on the wall either. I can't decide which wall to fix it to!
Peridot, turkey is also a usual holiday main here (also Thanksgiving and Christmas).

I did quite a lot of running around yesterday to get treats for dc. Also bought a few prezzies. I've got everything I need for dinner/dessert except the veg. I will sort that tonight or -ugh- tomorrow.
Necessary, but unwanted extras: I added two more braces to my cutlery drawer as knives were sneaking out the back (used the drill!!) 🤗 and I fished out a sock from the vacuum hose, luckily, then vacuumed. I've got a load of laundry to hang up and have put two loads away.
Heading out to vote and sign off on my taxes to be filed by accountant soon.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 18/04/2025 20:06

I moved house!

I now live in a flat in London, zone 2, with dd and dcat

Its something that most people do in their 20s but im 33 and ready to try and be Carrie Bradshaw 🤭🤭

Will read through the thread and be a much better participant, promise

I've been loving the garden photos x

And thanks @WinterFrogs , completely agree. I was so anxious and dd was just jumping in the pool happily with the lovely girl xx

Aria999 · 18/04/2025 23:53

Congratulations @mumofoneAlonebutokay! Hope you are feeling better now you made it!

thanks @WinterFrogs! To be fair ChatGPT is a great source of dummy data sets. Hopefully it will be a little while before it can replace tricky problem solving.

ah sock in the vacuum @Mumtobabyhavoc I get that a lot. The kids are are for some reason always taking them off and leaving them around the house.

got nothing much done today as DS was off school for Easter. Helped him make cookies as a partial antidote to too much screen time (DS firmly believes there's no such thing as too much screen time, a constant battle)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/04/2025 23:59

Yea!!!! @mumofoneAlonebutokay very happy for you! 🤗

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 19/04/2025 10:44

Thank you @Aria999 , @Mumtobabyhavoc

Feeling amazing, got so much unpacking to do, plus waiting on a food delivery

@Aria999 I can sympathise with the screen time 😄 - but making cookies sounds a good distraction

Hope you've all prepped for Easter lunch - the lamb i ordered was out of stock and no replacement 😩
