Morning! Mine started early today as we had littlest overnight. We went from deep sleep to Wide Awake in seconds. At least she and I did. Poor grandad needed coffee before he could be useful.

Congratulations and best wishes on your move @mumofoneAlonebutokay May you and your daughter be very happy and make some lovely new friends! Do you know anyone in the area yet?

Enjoy your preparations, those of you feasting for Easter. We've been invited to mum's new home for a meal which will be lovely. There's a posh menu ( and we do have to pay) but DH and I are joining in to keep mum company as a fair few of the residents will be going out.

So I have popped a meal in the slow cooker ( last week I did beef silverside in it - courtesy of this thread and it was delicious!) Yesterday I rummaged in the freezer and found some chicken pieces so I'm feeling quite smug.

I hope you are all well and enjoying the long weekend!

I always fuck up the beef | Mumsnet

I’m not a bad cook but my beef always turns out like a chewy piece of rope. How would you do this?

Happy Easter weekend all! My parents are here. My mom as usual is trying to get me to be on top of the laundry. H and I are VERY ready for D to go back to school, because she missed the last two days of term with a stomach bug it really feels like this break has vibe on FOREVEEEER. We met a potential new babysitter today and we all really liked her, so hopefully she will work out.

Enjoy the lunch with your mum @WinterFrogs !

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 19/04/2025 21:36

That looks amazing @WinterFrogs 😍

I haven't met anyone yet, just the neighbours below us who seem nice enough

I've ordered myself a chick lit book, to get back in the habit of reading - its 'the secrets of flowers', coming tomorrow. Spending today horizontal on tiktok 🤭

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 20/04/2025 08:25

Congrats on your move @mumofoneAlonebutokay ! Hope it is a wonderful new chapter. Thanks

WinterFrogs · 20/04/2025 16:01

Holidays can feel very long can't they @SingleThreadJoiner ? Good luck with the new babysitter!
Such a brave move @mumofoneAlonebutokay 💕 I'm sure you and DD will make friends soon. How far have you travelled?
We had a very early lunch with Mum, and she's sleeping it off now so were on the way home earlier than we anticipated.

One of my daughters is on her way to see us with her dog. It's a bit cold to sit in the garden as we'd planned.

I listened to an excellent podcast about self discipline last week, and he said create your own dopamine hits by doing things that your future self will appreciate. Like that good feeling when you get downstairs in the morning and the kitchen is clean and the coffee is ready to go. Clothes and to-do lists done the night before. Things that fill you with gratitude towards your past self.

I thought it might be useful for the procrastinators/adhders among us 💐

Thank you @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia and @WinterFrogs ❤️

We've moved from a zone 5 location on the outskirts of london, into zone 2, north

Its not quite as central as I'd hoped but its better than where I was before. I'd love to live in Central central london one day 🤭

@WinterFrogs I like that, the feeling of waking up to everything being done is a lovely one - will try to unpack the kitchen so tomorrow I can make dd a nice breakfast

Hope the afternoon with your mum, dd and her dog is a pleasant one - its surprisingly cold! xx

Aria999 · 21/04/2025 04:35

Central central London is awesome but ludicrously expensive as I recall. I lived in hammersmith, herne hill and Canada water.

Peridot1 · 21/04/2025 09:22

Hi all. Hope everyone had a lovely Easter.

Happy new home @mumofoneAlonebutokay. Hope you and DD are very happy there.

@WinterFrogs - that beef joint looks lovely.

We had a quiet weekend. Had a Christmas dinner yesterday as had a turkey joint in the freezer. Leftovers today.

I am going to a class at the gym this morning and other than that am planning another quiet day. Although we might finally get the boxes of Christmas stuff up into the attic! Every time we tried DH was injured somehow and couldn’t do it or DS wasn’t around and I was away for five weeks. So today might be the day!

I did an extra task on Saturday of dealing the filter on the hand held Dyson properly. Always thought I just had to rinse it which I had been doing. But discovered you have to pull it apart and wash it through. Well. The gunk that came out was pretty impressive! It does seem to work better now funnily enough.

@WinterFrogs - that podcast sounds interesting. I need ways of getting my dopamine hits that don’t involve endless scrolling on the internet.

Back from our week away on holiday now which was lovely. Only in the UK and not too far from home but it was a good break and the weather was fab. I don’t know why there’s always so much to do when you get back from a trip? Lots to catch up on and also get ready for a round of guests, a mix of family and friends who are staying for the next week. It looks like the weather is due to become more unsettled but we really need the rain. The garden is so dry and I’ve been watering the vegetable garden already. I really must get into the greenhouse and plant some seeds as I’m very late with that this year.
I’ve been very bad at posting on this thread recently - I always read what you’ve all been doing but don’t get round to posting myself. Must try harder!

@petalpower sorry to quote a post from a week ago, but I've also had guests visiting and they arrived on the 13th just like yours. We've been knee-deep in hosting duties even though they were staying in a house around the corner from us. We were out doing country and town walking for a full week before heading up to Edinburgh via on Friday morning with them. OH and I stayed over Friday night but bid farewell to them on Saturday evening and we are absolutely shattered. We spent all day yesterday recovering by staring at the walls, sleeping, and watching shows or playing iPad games.

Related to this daily project thread, we did a huge cleaning and home maintenance blitz and the house feels a lot lighter. We shifted / got rid of a lot of doom piles during the blitz.

Thanks @WinterFrogs - I've saved it for the commute to school tomorrow - I finally feel ready to be disciplined and to make some big changes this year

By Christmas I want to be a much more improved version of myself 🙌

Thank you @Peridot1 💕 - Christmas dinner for Easter sounds lovely - Xmas is my absolute fave, I'm already mentally preparing for it

petalpower · 21/04/2025 16:56

Our visitors left yesterday @JingsMahBucket and the next lot arrive on Friday! It’s been a lot of cooking , washing up and changing beds but I love hosting and it’s great to be able to catch up with everyone.
Over the past few days I’ve managed to sell and donate some of the things from dad’s house which we’ve been clearing - my brother has done most of the work as he’s local. During the clear out we found some very special jewellery from my late mum which means a lot to my brother and I. We had thought it had gone forever and reconciled ourselves to not seeing it again.
Today’s extra job was finishing weeding the path in the vegetable garden which I’ve been gradually chipping away at. A rather grey day here and I think we’re due for rain later which we need.
Hope everyone has had a happy Easter and I’m glad your house move went well @mumofoneAlonebutokay .

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say that I'm deleting my mumsnet account for various reasons - I might still have a look now and then - and if I ever come back I'll make sure to find you again! It's been a real pleasure and inspiration to join you for a while - wishing you all the very best! 🌹

Oh, sorry you're leaving. We never got to interact but wish you the best 💕

Thank you @petalpower - it's lovely that you and your brother found some of your mum's jewellery, it can't have been a nice feeling thinking it was gone ❤️

SpiritOfEdna · 21/04/2025 20:05

@SingleThreadJoiner - sometimes it’s good to take a break! Oftentimes this is the only thread I’ll post on when the rest is getting a bit frantic x

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 22/04/2025 07:11

Sorry to see you go @SingleThreadJoiner but do come back if you feel like it and let us know! I also on occasion have had my fill of the other threads of MN and de-register. Then come back for this one! Thanks to you.

SpiritOfEdna · 22/04/2025 11:52

Morning. Have thrown open the doors to the garden as we finally have a bit of sunshine. I've pumped up the tires on my bike and hopefully will get a spin out later as I have finally paid for my Camino de Santiago trip - this first trip will be 8 days of walking to test it out and then hopefully return to complete over the next year or so. I do need to work out my travel plans to get to the beginning and then home at the end! And whether I can fit in seeing Notre Dame at the same time. Best get getting fit then.

In the meantime:
Today

  • am standing up working at the minute, might need to shift location to a seat as my legs are sore post morning workout 😄
  • charge up my Garmin as I have no idea of what steps I am walking currently, besides lots
  • Washing up liquid is in short supply so need to nip round shop
  • chase up my friend who is framing - I thought we were done last week; but not a peep
  • SpiritDoggo needs walking but sibling is home today and might do the long one
  • there is more sand everywhere
  • shredding to be done
  • pension review to be arranged - I do need to understand the statements a bit more
  • most of the heavy domestics where done before the long weekend so currently basking in a tidy clean home 😄
Have a good one, SoE
Peridot1 · 22/04/2025 12:54

@SingleThreadJoiner - sorry to see you are leaving. Hope all is ok. You know where we are if you come back. I do feel I should go at times. I waste way too much time just reading crap. And it’s definitely gotten nastier here over the years. And I’ve been here around 20 years. Which is crazy.

In an effort to stop wasting time on the internet in general I have bought a painting by numbers kit and a blanket knitting kit. And I’m definitely going to get back to reading.

Yesterday we did manage to put the Christmas boxes up into the attic. A big win! And I’ve just put the few Easter things I have away. I like seasonal decorating for some reason but definitely have less Easter things than Christmas.

This morning DH and I went to the garden centre for breakfast and bought plants for pots on the patio and by the front door. Hopefully DH will plant them out this afternoon.

I have done some laundry and hung it up and gave the kitchen sinks a good scrub. This afternoon I’m cleaning the shelves and wine rack in the island unit as it is pretty dusty.

I still haven’t done my list. And I need to book taxis for airport trip next week.

Have a great day all.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 22/04/2025 13:51

I have done not alot today. I went over on my ankle yesterday and as I have a bad back generally it has triggered pain and stiffness. But I plan to get up in a moment and do another load of washing.

You all may recall I had to do an emergency dash to see a sick family member abroad 2 months ago- well there has been a relapse and I am currently waiting to see if I need do that again. Which is very stressful because it is easier to be on the ground really in many ways. So i am trying to get up to date with washing and ironing so that I can pack and leave as required. Thankfully I am between temp jobs so don't need to worry about work which is a blessing for which i am grateful.

Other than that- some of last year's seasonal plants that flowered all through winter and have given me a great deal of pleasure have finally turned up their toes so i need to clear out pots ready for the next planting.

Best wishes to everyone.

petalpower · 22/04/2025 16:34

Snap @Peridot1 - our Christmas decorations finally went in the roof of the garage on Friday and I’ve just taken down the Easter decorations too!

Peridot1 · 22/04/2025 17:24

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - ouch to the ankle. And sorry to hear you may have to do another big trip. Such a worry.

@petalpower - you have made me feel so much better! DH was saying if they didn’t get put away this weekend they may as well stay until next Christmas!

I did the island unit dusting and cleaning this afternoon while DH planted out some of the plants into pots. And I’ve just taken all of the recycling down to the road. And I might have had a wee snooze at some stage too!
