Managed to take both dc to school this morning. 😅
It's a sort of pre-school, so not mandatory. After that it was home for lunch, put baby down for a nap and then I caved and dropped off my taxes. Decided I wasn't ready to file without help. Took Havoc shopping after and bought some clothes for Havoc for September and felt quite organized. Also bought Havoc a new pair of runners. Feet are growing too fast!
No other tasks todays and I'm leaving putting away laundry until tomorrow. (And washing floors). 🫣

WinterFrogs · 08/04/2025 05:46

Morning all, how's it going? I'm up at stupid o'clock thanks to a restless sleep which culminated in a big headache. So up with a cuppa. Will work all morning but definitely afternoon nap is in my future!
Your poor potted palm @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia 😔 Whatever did the poor thing do?
On a good note, I have bought compost and I repotted houseplants, thanks to your reminder. It always falls into the 'too complicated' category, but it really doesn't take long. An excellent daily project. Thank you!
Nearest we got to DoE was DS signing up for an overnight walk with the group he attended. We did some extra long walks before he discovered that it was really for the older teenagers ( he was new to the group and thought it was expected) I take my hat off to the ones who do it. Quite often see them on our lanes in the summer.

Good for you having a Day Off, @Aria999 Hope the Kung Fu was fun ( or is it a very serious business?)
Good luck with your move @mumofoneAlonebutokay 💐

I too have some dusting to do @Peridot1 ( I also get the sneezes if I leave it too long)

I'm still trying to break my scrolling habit, and I have not one, but three books on the go, as that kind of replaces the MN dopamine hit. Non fiction first thing, audiobook in the car, novel at bedtime. I was out quite late last night with friends, and didn't do bath/bed/story routine like I usually do. Probably why sleep was so restless now I come to think of it.

I really need to crack open some paint pots. This thread has inspired some touch ups ( thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc If you can do it around two tinies, I'm sure I can manage. But today I do need to get to the tip as I was volunteered to take the rubbish from the stables this week, and I also have some elderly garden furniture that I unearthed from the shed while looking for something else. And then the car needs a good clean.

Am down to a very manageable number of books now, and I have rehomed the jigsaws that I was clearly never going to do. I still have not sorted my wardrobe. Some things stay on my list for a while....

Best wishes to all on here, with the ups and downs of life 💕

Morning all.

Good things going on and being achieved. Night night @Mumtobabyhavoc!

@Aria999 - my dad would have been the same about the equipment. DS could have used school equipment but everyone said it was never cleaned so wasn’t very nice and I knew he’d hate it anyway so I kitted him out. Cleaned everything up and sold it on the following year!

I didn’t achieve much yesterday for some reason. Kitchen still needs a good clean. Dust is still there. But my eyebrows are tinted and my toes polished!

I am out today for a shopping adventure with my neighbour to a vintage home wear antiques place I’ve never been to. And then lunch out. If I get anything done today it will be a load of laundry and maybe the floors.

Have a good day all.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 08/04/2025 13:53

Good morning everyone. My favourite mornings are the sunny ones at the beginning of a school holiday - it feels like anything is possible, even if we're spending the day indoors!

I took dd to the zoo yesterday and she hated it. Cried when I took her to see the monkeys and lions and we quit halfway through, and I carried her back to the car. Shouldve put the sunflower lanyard on her to stop the weird looks. She loved the car journey though! 😅

Thank you all for the welcomes 🙂

@WinterFrogs @Mumtobabyhavoc hope you're enjoying your sleeps

Thank you for your kind comments @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia , I hope so too. You sound like you've lived a good life, living in different countries! Which was the best?

It's my dream to live in Paris 🤭 - where I'm moving isn't too far from st Pancras, so I hope to take dd there on the eurostar

Ds1 doing the dofe sounds amazing, and definitely a worthwhile push out of his comfort zone. I've heard that everyone is also really supportive on the expeditions as well.

I've signed dd up to rainbows in our new area, which is like girl guides. Hopefully she'll be able to cope with it, we'll see

For today, I've just batch cooked two massive pots of chicken curry (one butter chicken, one tikka masala) and made dd some jerk chicken for lunch. Got to try and organise the packing up downstairs and that's me for today 🌞

Edit, it's not even morning 😅😅, I'm blaming it on the slight lie in that we had x

WinterFrogs · 08/04/2025 14:13

Gotta say I chuckled at good morning @mumofoneAlonebutokay. Since I've been up since 4.45am it feels like dinnertime 😴 I am going to push through, or tonight will be the same!
I have memories of leaving our outings early to go home. It was hit and miss how they'd go. It turns out that most of my family is 'neurospicy' but we didn't know that then. We keep clear limits on how long we'll be anywhere with our littlest, as she gets very overwhelmed too. Easier now we know how to deal with it. Poor DH is used to even me downing tools if being out gets too much for me. Just takes me home, bless him, and lets me decompress.
I hope you're having a lovely day out with your sparkling eyebrows and toes @Peridot1 😍
I have managed a staffing rota this morning, and sent emails. This wfh is new to me, but it's lovely looking out at the garden on such a beautiful day.
I still haven't cleaned the car but I did get to the tip.

Aria999 · 08/04/2025 15:29

Yes thanks @WinterFrogs kung fu was fun although it was a bit punctuated by interruptions from the DC. First DD iPad had locked itself, then DD crept into the studio from the waiting room to tell me DS was climbing on the windowsill, then I had to step out to get him to stop climbing on the windowsill.... after that things were calmer. Luckily the teacher is very patient!

sorry your DD hated the zoo @mumofoneAlonebutokay. How old is she?

Yes @WinterFrogs i can relate to feeling overstimulated by a day out too. Hope you can sort the insomnia out! I also needed a post drop off nap this morning but that was because I accidentally stayed up till 1am playing my computer game... 😳

we have a 3rd and final attempt delivery of some wine this morning (Pennsylvania is a prohibition state and it's a bit of a pain buying it in shops as supermarkets have restrictions on selling it). So I am too nervous about missing it to be achieving very much. Hopefully I can at least get the kitchen clean.

then I need to do some preparation for the school parent organization meeting this evening.

hopefully I can fit the cellar in somewhere. It's hard to imagine actually finishing it but I must finish it!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 08/04/2025 15:59

😄 I fully support you in finishing the wine, @Aria999 🤭

I didn't realise prohibition still existed, in any sense! So buying it online is a loophole? Thank goodness if so!

The way I buy wine in bulk, you'd think that someone was bringing prohibition to London 😅

Sorry that the kids interrupted your kung fu lesson - are they on school holidays due to Easter as well?

Dd is 6 and has autism, so although a bit heavy, I managed to carry her to the car, where she happily (and loudly) munched on a donut x

@WinterFrogs
Oh the sleep you'll have tonight will be worth it!

I remember the outings we had as kids, also a neurospicy family. Ending in tears, my mother crying from embarrassment, my step dad blaming me

Bleurgh, nightmare.

Dh sounds amazing though, just a little understanding is what's needed, and a commitment to peace 🙌 - so grateful for the times we're living in, in terms of acceptance. How old is your youngest? Having a clear plan in place is key for me x

Aria999 · 08/04/2025 16:28

@mumofoneAlonebutokay prohibition is indeed over but some states have leftover laws from that time. We can only buy wine in a government run store called Fine Wines and Spirits, or in restaurants. Some supermarkets have gotten around this by setting up Starbucks outlets where you can buy (closed) bottles but you still have to pay for it separately and there is a 4 bottle limit. So yes online is easier except for the difficulty of being in when it shows up! Glad DD enjoyed her donut. A donut can solve many things!

and no, there will probably be 1 or 2 days off over Easter which I should check as I don't even know when Easter is yet! but we had our Spring Break first 2 weeks of March.

WinterFrogs · 09/04/2025 07:11

I really love the twists and turns on this thread! Just like we're sitting down and having a chat!
Interesting about your alcohol laws @Aria999 You have all the motivation to get that cellar sorted! I hope you received the delivery ok 🍷

Who doesn't love a crunchy doughnut @mumofoneAlonebutokay?
Our littlest (GC) is nearly 4 ( time flies!) We have our GN ( great aunt sounds very old doesn't it) around too quite often, so sometimes it's chaos! We usually have their parents with us, which we're thankful for as small children are relentless 😃 Grandad and I work in tandem if we're left in charge!

Off walking with a friend shortly for wholesome exercise and a catch up. We are very lucky being being near the sea, woods and downland so spoilt for choice. Bluebells are just coming out so it's the woods today.

I was surprised to see the moon was nearly full. Could have sworn we were only half way but it was very bright at 2am. Just looked at it's full on Sunday.

Today i have two appointments to book and I really must do them! And my bedroom us looking a bit shabby so I need to do a pick up and put away session. Things get moved into there when the children are here, and this week they seem to have stayed.

Hope you all have a lovely day!

Chiming in on donuts! Bought some while out shopping with Havoc yesterday:cookie monster (blue icing with choc cookie bits, cookies n cream (white icing with cookie bits) and a lemon iced one. All delish!!!

Baby ran off with a plate before I could get it and smashed it on the kitchen floor. So, wiped up that and bits of food then steam-mopped floor, i continued on down hall, entrance, and then bathroom floor. There was still water in the reservoir so I steam cleaned entrance area rug. I then had a bath, gave Havoc a bath and got both dc ready for bed. I will be quite happy to wake up to the clean floors. I get the ick when they're not clean.
Did a Costco run before closing this evening. Bought some new pillows. Will steam them tomorrow before use.

I'm also enjoying the peek into everyones lives. Aria, I knew about dry counties, but not whole states. We have government liquor stores here as well as private. It's still tightly controlled, though, and alcohol isn't sold elsewhere, ie grocery stores (not even Costco! 😥) gas stations, etc the way it is in the States.
Winter, Havoc will be 4 this year and I'm so in mourning for the baby stage that went by so fast! And, of course, the last year is a blur having had baby #2 ... and baby is now saying a few words, and very proudly, too! 😍🥹

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 09/04/2025 08:33

Morning all!

It was almost impossible taking my DS1 to places like the zoo at 6 too. @mumofoneAlonebutokay Total nightmare and I used to wonder why I bothered. Then I would most definitely have a restorative drink!

I also spent a crazy number of years taking him to the cinema or Pantomimes etc knowing we would have to leave after 45 minutes or so because he could not sit through it all. Those days have mostly passed now thankfully- although a trip to Longleat remains one of the most traumatising experiences of my life as once you are in the long queue at the Safari park you simply cannot get out of it again or take any shortcuts. I still twitch at the thought and DH goes pale when the topic comes up. We took DS1 when he was about 6…… [shudder]

Favourite places I lived (this is probably outing by this point, but most of what I write is tbh!). I loved Thailand- lived there for a year. My favourite place was Kyiv – 3 years there. I adored everything- the beautiful architecture, being able to visit the Opera and ballet for a couple of dollars, and the food. I worked with some wonderful people with whom I am still in touch and most of whom have gone to surrounding countries due to the war.

In the UK I bounced around a bit but lived in Windsor for a while and that and the surrounds were stunning. It’s also a dream to live in Paris so I envy you for when you can visit often!

That is fascinating @Aria99 that you are in a prohibition state! I also had no idea there were still prohibition states! I am about to go down a google rabbit hole on that subject…… I am still startled when I visit Australia and liquor stores have to be separate entrances from the supermarket and you can’t just wander down the street drinking wine or go to the park and drink wine in most areas unlike in the UK. Australia does have drive through wine shops though which is very civilised.

I was out yesterday with friends and had 1 too many cocktails before coming to my senses and refusing a third. But it was fun – and an early night for me. I also managed to get (From Aldi!!) two garden mirrors for our uber ugly binhouse. I have been wanting them for ages but have not found the shape I wanted or the size I wanted for the price I wanted. Aldi fit the bill and at £7.99 could not be missed! The binhouse is in a section where birds don’t use as a flight path (and is behind some ferns anyway) so I don’t think we will have them knocking themselves out on the mirrors which was my main worry.

Today I have to sort out a little bit of life admin and I want to sort out my messy pots and re-pot some geraniums.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 09/04/2025 09:29

How fascinating about the prohibition laws @Aria999! I had no idea. I forget that different states can have such different regulations. Was annoyed when in Boston last year as tried to buy wine in Target and they wanted passports for identification. Photo driving licence wasn’t enough. Whereas in Florida I think they just asked for my year of birth.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - when did you live in Thailand? We did too. Bangkok for over two years in early 90s.

I had a nice day yesterday out antiquey/vintage/hime stuff shopping and lunch with my friend. Then got home and just sat down and DS asked me to go to a supermarket with him to help him film some bits for one of his products. Turned out he didn’t need me for much so I was hanging around a bit. We did get some funny looks though as he videos a carton of beers travelling along the conveyor belt! I did score an acer for £4 though so that was a win!

not much else achieved. And I’m up in London today so can’t see much being done today either!

SpiritOfEdna · 09/04/2025 10:30

Morning
Things To Do Today

  • go and visit the friend who is framing pictures for me - I might be bringing one home - pleeeeease. I never thought there were so many options 😄
  • hoover - SAND. However, SpiritDoggo was groomed (FINALLY) yesterday, so less curly fur to trap sand in, hopefully
  • and in that same groundhog day vein, my desk is a mess and needs tidying
  • I am very tired, I have had some kind of bug this last couple of days which has wiped me out - it needs to be gone...so, sleep
  • filing has crept up, so need to do that
  • some gift vouchers have gone astray so need to look for them - lol one has just surfaced while idly rummaging though a pile of post on desk
  • just googled how to get greasy marks out of a door. Talk about stating the obvious 😄Who knows how they got there. Will have a go later
Not a huge amount for today, but will crack on, have a great day, SoE
WinterFrogs · 09/04/2025 19:36

Oh man! Just re read my post and I didn't book the appointments 🙃 Sigh. They got lost in my list. Otherwise, I have had quite a productive day!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 10/04/2025 11:35

Morning all!

I was in Bangkok, @Peridot1 in about 2001. I was trying to work out which district I lived in, but can't recall. I did have to take a water taxi to work every day which never got old. I loved that.

Today I am trying to do what I always tell myself I will do on Thursdays- devote myself to the garden because our cleaner comes and I feel liberated from the house for a day. So far i have re-potted 6 geraniums and cleared the ivy away from our gate posts. I discovered afresh (I did know but it's been so long I had forgotten) that one of our gate posts has a horse shoe embedded in it. That predates us by many decades.

I have now made a lemon herb chicken casserole for dinner and will go back into the garden to start collecting everything that needs to go to the tip.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Daily Project round 7
Peridot1 · 10/04/2025 11:53

That horseshoe is lovely @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia. I love things like that.

Im sure going to work every day by watertaxi was fab. We weren’t that lucky! Dirty dusty tuk tuks mostly!

As predicted I didn’t get anything done yesterday but had a lovely very long lunch with my friend in London. We went to Battersea Power Station which is now a nice shopping/eating venue. It was freezing though!!!

A bitty day today. I had a PT session at 9. Now I’m in housework mode. House needs a general good clean so I’m doing that in bits and pieces. Starting with the kitchen. Also changing DS’s bed which involved clearing all the rubbish out of his room. I’m about to bring in a rule that he does all of that on Saturdays.

I also want to do a list of things I need to do and appointments I need to make. A good old brain dump list. I seem to have a lot of bits swirling around my head that need to get done but aren’t. Because they aren’t on a list! So back to list making.

SingleThreadJoiner · 10/04/2025 16:44

Just passing by to say hi. I am loving the mix of past and present in your posts! And the horseshoe in your literal post, @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia! At PIL for a week so I doubt there will be anything useful to report. But maybe a trip to the zoo is on the horizon!

Aria999 · 10/04/2025 20:48

Love the horseshoe @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia!

Aria999 · 10/04/2025 21:13

Aaand... TAADAAA! the cellar is cleared out. I should have taken some 'before' pics but suffice it to say you could not move through any area of the room without climbing over something. Mold remediation guy is coming on Tuesday.

I've put half the laundry away and tidied 2/3 of the dc's dresser drawers. I've also put away our ski jackets etc from yesterday that I had hung to dry after sledding on one of the ski hills (closes on Sunday).
I need to go back to Costco to return a charger I bought to use in the car as it is missing the cord. 🤦‍♀️
Fed the dc early supper/late lunch of left-over rotisserie chicken and pasta with butter; then blueberries and grapes. I think I'll head to Costco now and maybe make pancakes later as I'm sure we'll all be hungry again.
I'm quite proud of Havoc right now as two days in a row I've given Havoc rocket, chopped, and mixed into pasta and it's been eaten without protest. 🥳🙌
(Havoc shared my lunch of chicken tortellini with rocket, feta and grape tomatoes) 😼

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/04/2025 07:50

Morning!

I am VERY VERY envious of your cellar @Aria999 ! We have a 'cellar' but that is a fancy name for a hole under our house. You cannot stand up straight but DH does keep a ridiculous amount of wine in it. - Ridiculous as he no longer drinks and it is ALL red wine which I don't drink.

Hope you have a good trip to ILs @SingleThreadJoiner. And great stuff with the rocket @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Another sunny day here. I have a funeral to attend later this afternoon but am about to head to the garden centre to buy flowers. Yesterday when I re-potting I culled some of the dead things and now have a few pots all ready for new plants. I moved alot of the hanging baskets from one gate and put on another gate which is a sunnier spot so am looking forward to filling them!

Best wishes to everyone for a peaceful and lovely day!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/04/2025 10:17

Morning again!

20 pansies planted -tick
6 English lavender potted - tick.

Peridot1 · 11/04/2025 13:36

Wow to that fabulously organised and tidy cellar @Aria999! We had basements in houses in Eastern Europe and they were fab for storage. Until on house where the basement kept flooding. There was a lot of forced getting rid of stuff as so much got damaged.

Your lunch sounds yummy @Mumtobabyhavoc.

I am very impressed with your buying plants and actually potting them in the same morning @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia!

I had a busy day yesterday and did quite a bit of cleaning. Vacuumed and mopped the utility room, kitchen, dining area and sitting area floors. Cleaned the cooker and backsplash. Took everything off the window sill behind the kitchen sink and washed everything. Still got a bit to go to be able to say the kitchen is cleaned but I’ll get there.

I was out shopping this morning so nothing much achieved. And I think I’ll take a leaf from @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia’s book and empty pots on the patio and pull out some plants in the beds that I know I don’t want. DH is washing down our all of outdoor chairs as I’ve volunteered to host coffee and bacon rolls on Sunday morning after a village litter pick. I also need to put on some washing.

Just having a cup of tea first before I get started.
