Aria, I ended up driving across town for an errand, so will try to get to my admin ... tomorrow? 🤔
Moldy TP sounds grim. 😂

petalpower · 04/04/2025 09:46

A lot of us on here seem to have loved ones affected by dementia - both my dad and stepmother have Alzheimer’s and are in nursing/care homes. It’s rubbish because you know that however rough things are they’re never going to be any better than this. I’ve read a few things on the Elderly Parents board but have never posted. In fact I only really post on this thread now!
Currently sitting in the hairdressers with my colour on. We go on holiday for a week this afternoon - only a couple of hours drive from home so not too far. The lists of stuff we need to take is something else as we are in a cottage and I take most of our food. It will be good to get a little break and this is a rebooked holiday from last year when I was looking after my dad and stepmother for weeks on end and we had to cancel the trip.

SpiritOfEdna · 04/04/2025 10:13

Morning. I am swinging today between apathy and racing round the house trying to tidy things up, but thankfully it is Friday 😄 I am home alone today, but SpiritDoggo has had a walk. It's been an eventful couple of days, culminating in me getting locked in the gym yesterday - it's a private gym and in between me arriving and going into the gym, the only other person in there left the office and locked the door to the gym, the outside door and pulled the shutters down.... My trainer was only 5 minutes later but I was not happy 😄 It's a very SpiritDoggo day today!
Today

  • dog's groom got cancelled so I am patiently (or the dog is submitting patiently) working through where she has got quite matted (where her harness sits)
  • SpiritDoggo has not been the beach this week so no more sand to hoover up (hurrah!)
  • Scrub the grout on the bathroom tiles as they are looking scuzzy (the glamour, but they need doing)
  • need to do finance admin for this month
  • walk SpiritDoggo maybe the beach (and more sand...)
Right must go, some idiot put in a planning session for all day today... that would be me, so best go plan! have a great Friday, SoE

@WinterFrogs - yes families are indeed complicated at times!

I don’t think I’m aunt or great aunt to MIL’s niece. Am I? Step-cousin in law?

Not much achieved here today as I had a dental appointment this morning and then got my hair cut. Am about to make a banana cake to use up some bananas- DH has a parish council get together here tomorrow morning so they can have it with coffee. Need to do a quick tidy round and vacuum this afternoon.

Yesterday I washed some new kitchen towels and tea towels I bought when I was away, folded them and put them away. And I cleared out the old tatty ones while I was doing it! So kitchen tea towel drawer is now tidy.

yikes to getting locked in the gym @SpiritOfEdna! Glad you escaped!

@petalpower - dementia is shit isn’t it? Hope you have a nice week away.

SingleThreadJoiner · 04/04/2025 17:08

What a palaver @SpiritOfEdna !glad someone came along to rescue you soon

I think we are a couple of years behind most of you with the PIL /dementia pathway, but definitely, undeniably, on it. Some very tricky conversations and decisions ahead.

@RunningKatie thinking of you and your family. I hope it is not too upsetting.

My great plans for the week - after a great start which included successfully ordering myself glasses and buying the teacher's leaving present - were derailed by D having a single, epic, vomiting episode yesterday morning at 5am. She's been absolutely fine since but could not be sent to school. Taking turns doing childcare with my H but really not ideal.

Various fun things planned for the weekend, then three days of holiday club before heading to the grandparents for a week...

Happy Friday all!

WinterFrogs · 05/04/2025 16:14

Hugs all round 💕

How are we all doing? I'm breaking the habit of a lifetime and doing some work in the office as everyone is out this afternoon. Normally I sit under a cat and read, but this needed doing.
DH and I set the house straight yesterday evening, and there's nothing really to do which comes as some surprise.
I should get in the garden really but it's noisy to the left with a young family and to the right with yapping dogs so I think I'll give it a miss. I don't really mind, but it wouldn't be relaxing.

I had to laugh at the moldy toilet paper 😆

Vancouver sounds an amazing place to live @Mumtobabyhavoc

Hi everyone, I'm new to the thread

I'm looking for inspiration really, I'm laying under a duvet while dd plays, I feel super exhausted for some reason 😭

Something new for today - I've been drinking so much coke zero, I'm gonna try to drink a litre of squash before bed 🙈

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/04/2025 17:24

Good morning everyone 🌤️
Dragging my butt here....
spent yesterday afternoon on the mountain again. Had the sledding runs all to ourselves. Ate our snack after sitting in the snow. 😊
Did a few quick clean ups yesterday: bathroom sink, toilet, floor and put laundry away. Did a spot clean of the wall in the kitchen. Planned next bit of painting in the kitchen which entailed moving a few items on the counter, looking, saying Hmmm, to myself then going to bed. Need to get motivated to make the dc breakfast before hey starve...
Winter, I do love it here. There's lots to do. It's expensive, though.

WinterFrogs · 06/04/2025 09:56

Hello everyone! Welcome to our thread @mumofoneAlonebutokay 💕 My DH used to drink way too much fizz and got awful headaches when he cut it down too quickly, so take care.

Many of us here have been able to make some good long term changes as a result of doing a small thing each day that stays done - at least for a while. I used to find it all too easy to only do what absolutely must be done, so things like emptying the toaster of crumbs or cleaning the soap drawer in the washing machine never got done.
On that note, I going to do those very things, right now! Brb!

OP posts:
WinterFrogs · 06/04/2025 10:05

I'm back. With a soaking wet front from gazing out at the garden instead of concentrating on filling the kettle. Plan to clean soap tray scuppered but someone fotgetting to switch the machine on for a load last night. So while waiting for kettle to boil I damply did the toaster and cleaned a shelf in fridge instead, so I'm feeling mighty!
I will have a bit of a scroll with my coffee then I must shower and change to visit my mum.
Have a lovely day all 💐

Vancouver does sound amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Hope DD is ok @SingleThreadJoiner - bloody kids pick their times don’t they? Poor thing though. Being sick is never nice.

Welcome @mumofoneAlonebutokay - a litre of squash instead of something fizzy sounds like a great first step. It’s all about the little things in this thread. And sometimes big things! But all the little things add up.

@WinterFrogs well done on your jobs. Not so well done on the wet front. We’ve all done it!

Not much achieved here yesterday as DH and I were both feeling a bit tired after going to the pub on Friday night for a quick drink in the sun and some food. Stayed far too late as met some neighbours. And DH had arranged a breakfast meeting here for 9am in the morning. So we had to get organised for that. And once they left and we tidied up we both just flopped for the day.

This morning I have washed some towels and tea towels and hung them outside. It’s beautiful but not warm! Had a lovely long chat with my friend in Australia. And had two breakfasts as was up really early.

About to go and find some more washing to put in. And then I might clean the soap drawer.

Happy Sunday all.

petalpower · 06/04/2025 11:47

Welcome @mumofoneAlonebutokay !
Vancouver sounds amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc - my DS is going on a work trip there later in the year, lucky him!
Hello everyone else. Hope those with tricky times and ill children are doing ok.
No projecteering on holiday but I have had a bit of a think about menu planning as after we get home we have family visiting for a few days and DD has an old friend also staying then they all leave and others visit for Easter. A few dietary restrictions/issues to take account of so I’m planning whilst things are quiet. Out for lunch shortly at a lovely pub so no cooking needed today and have had a bracing walk with the dogs and DH on the coastal path. Beautiful blue sky and sunshine but a chilly wind.

WinterFrogs · 06/04/2025 11:49

I like the sound of two breakfasts @Peridot1 You are my kind of person!
I have had three coffees ( one with cream) and greek yoghurt with banana, blueberries and rasberries and unusually, some honey, as a friend brought me some back from a holiday.

I'm going to do my soap drawer now the wash has finished.
I did wordle in 7 today after a 66 day streak 😔 But I did get connections straight away for a change.

Hi all.Welcome @mumofoneAlonebutokay !

Limping into the thread- literally! DS1 is trying for his Duke of Edinburgh bronze award and we went for a long training walk this morning in our nearish forest. I have not much to report on the Daily Project front- but do need to neaten my fernery which has some brown fronds that can be chopped so will do that later after I made a spinach and ricotta lasagne for dinner.

Hope everyone is well and fine. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/04/2025 18:15

Petal, let me know if you have any q's or need a contact here. I'm happy to help if needed.
Lobelia, is it for speedwalking? I will google that award to learn about it. Yum re your dinner!😛
Winter, I'm on my 3rd latte... (they're small though!!!) 🧐

Welcome @mumofoneAlonebutokay I've seen you on other threads. This is a nice one. Hope you'll stay. 😄

It's rainy and 12c. Need to get dc out, though.
Attended 10 year celebration of the observatory at SFU with dc yesterday. Managed a great pic through one of the telescopes.

Hey everyone 👋, thanks for the welcomes 😊

This does seem like a lovely thread! Perfect for me - So I'm alone with my 6yo dd who has autism, and our cat. Life is quiet for us but I'm trying to get us out more

Currently packing up our life - shortly i will hopefully be FINALLY leaving my home town!

Can't wait to just get away, and get dd away from my traumatic past 🙌

Thank you @Peridot1 I had to just get started! I've got another bottle of squash for this evening, and some plums to snack on

🤭👋 @Mumtobabyhavoc I'm addicted to mumsnet! It's replaced twitter for me, and thank goodness, that place has become a cesspit

I'm currently in withdrawal from the sugar I had on Friday - usually don't let myself have any but caved! So unpleasant - I'm just reducing the coke cans and increasing the squash intake - would love to wean myself off but slowly slowly ❤️

@mumofoneAlonebutokay sending you good thoughts for your move. 💕

Thank you - 🤭 life is for enjoying, sometimes that means having a scroll x

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 06/04/2025 20:43

Scrolling hard here also. If I manage to detach couch from butt (thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc for that!) i might fetch a glass of red wine.

Very best of luck with your planned move @mumofoneAlonebutokay ! I have moved homes and countries a few times and always the move was for the better so i hope so much that you, DD and your Dcat have wonderful times ahead.

Great pictures @Mumtobabyhavoc ! I love the moon pic!!

Duke of Edinburgh is not speed walking @Mumtobabyhavoc and if anyone had seen my walk that would be all too clear! It's a thing where students do a hiking and walking expedition plus do volunteer work in the community and have to learn a new skill. It's (more or less) compulsory at the Dcs school and is certainly pushing DS1 (who also has autism, @mumofoneAlonebutokay ) out of his comfort zone- and indeed mine in a very big way. Its a brilliant thing to do, but yes it is testing us. But, to be fair, I have possibly become a bit too protective of Ds due to all his issues so this will be a good challenge. I don't expect he will be able to pass all components this academic year but that's fine... we will take it as it comes.

I sadly did not do a daily project in the end today but I did think about painting our bin house and tomorrow will go to the hardware store to pick up paint.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening / day and talk tomorrow! Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/04/2025 23:59

Lobelia, you've taken the ""butt attached to couch" to new heights by getting up to get wine - or new lows? 😂
That's my kind of Sunday! 👏
(If I could manage a glass of wine as it's been ages)

So. I read the link and then went to Wikipedia. As I was reading I thought: was this portrayed on The Crown? 😂

Well done for getting involved! 🤗

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 07/04/2025 06:41

Morning @Mumtobabyhavoc !

I think it was portrayed on The Crown! My understanding is that Prince P believed that some of the ills of modern life could be mitigated if young people tested themselves physically and through service. I don't disagree I guess!

DS is going to be tested and it's already put himself out of his comfort zone. We may have identified a volunteering opportunity for him as well- which he will be able to do beyond the 3 month compulsory period if it is a good fit. I like that as i sometimes work in a sector where young people approach us wanting to tick off that part of the award and leave after 3 months when it would be lovely to have them around for longer.

It's a gorgeous dawn here. I plan to clear out our external entrance way today. This section of the garden requires a ridiculous amount of maintenance as it is very dark and wet and so things die or rot or else just look pretty grim. I will report a small conifer and put away some of the rubbish that has accumulated and still consider pain colours.

Hope everyone has a great day!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 07/04/2025 06:44

*repot a small conifer!

Poor conifer. It's done to warrant a reporting!

Peridot1 · 07/04/2025 10:01

Morning all.

Good luck with your move @mumofoneAlonebutokay. I hope it’s really positive for you and DD.

DS did Duke of Edinburgh too. Can’t remember if he even finished it. I think he got Bronze? I just remember kitting him out for the camping element. He hated it!

@WinterFrogs my two breakfasts weren’t that exciting. First was two mini croissants left over from DH’s Saturday morning meeting. Second was a slice of toasted banana bread which I suppose was more elevenses than breakfast really!

Today’s list:

  • empty and reload dishwasher
  • put on a load of laundry
  • kitchen needs a good clean and bookshelves need dusting as I’m sneezing again if I sit near them
  • eyebrow tint and pedicure this afternoon

Have a good day all.

Aria999 · 07/04/2025 20:29

Hello all! Welcome @mumofoneAlonebutokay hope it goes smoothly!

I hated Duke of Edinburgh too @Peridot1and only made it to bronze. My dad was too skint stingy to buy proper hiking gear so I was a liability to my group in horrible second hand boots and pack.

I had a Day Off everything today. Cellar battle resumes tomorrow. DH is away so I am taking both kids to Kung fu from 4pm to 7pm and they will both do the class for their age group and then eat sandwiches while I have mine...
