Thank you for your kind words and support everyone. Dad had 36 hours on a trolley in A and E before going up onto an assessment ward and getting a bed. He’s holding his own but still very frail. I arrived at the hospital at 9.30 am yesterday and left at 5.30pm today. Now at my in laws which only 20 minutes from the hospital. Think I’ll put my pyjamas on and then just get into bed and see if sleep happens. Despite being very tired it’s difficult to relax and switch off from the situation.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 23/07/2025 19:49

That's a shocking wait @petalpower Thanks

Hope you get some sleep. xx

WinterFrogs · 23/07/2025 20:19

So relieved he has a bed, and I hope you are able to get a good sleep 💐

That's a long time for you in a chair Petal. Glad both of you have a proper bed/room. Sending good wishes for a positive outcome for your dad. Hope you are getting some sleep now. 💛

autumnangel · 24/07/2025 09:37

Hello, thank you all for your kind words and checking in on me. Sorry I can't individually reply to everyone but I am still here reading along. My thoughts are very much with everyone having a hard time just now. 💐
I've spent much of the last few days in a daze, not really knowing what to think. I've been trying to keep myself busy and giving myself set times to sit down and let my mind wander and have a good cry rather than being consumed with it all the time. I would like to post again on here about some of the daily things I need to do / have done. Most of which are about DH and the funeral and admin things. I really hope that is ok with everyone but please let me know if I start turning this into the DH show!

I've wrote myself a to do list to keep busy but I'm not putting any pressure on myself to get everything done:

  • Collect sick line
  • Collect parcel / try on dresses I have ordered
  • Tidy DH wardrobe and chose clothes to give to the funeral director
  • Visit the bank for advice on how to move forward
  • Appointment with the registry office for death certificate

I really do hope everyone is getting on ok and I promise to come back and post more often.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 24/07/2025 10:40

It's okay with me @autumnangel if you post whatever you need to post whenever. Thanks

We are here for you. Safe Harbour.

Hugs.

Peridot1 · 24/07/2025 10:48

@petalpower - glad your Dad got a bed finally. And hope you got some sleep.

@autumnangel - use the thread however you like. And please don’t feel you have to tag everyone individually. It can become an added pressure and I think we have all felt that at times. I hope you are as ok as you can be and have lots of support around you in real life.

WinterFrogs · 24/07/2025 12:04

Hello all! Lovely to 'see' you @autumnangel and as the others said, this is a safe space 💕

I missed your post @RunningKatie Good luck with you very long list!

I am having a day of being on hold and waiting for calls back etc.

My tv unit is still dusty!

I need to mop the hard floors. Going to put a wash on and hope I can dry it outside.
And I must check my mum's house then pop in to visit her this afternoon.

I’m glad you felt able to come back to this thread @autumnangel and hope you’re managing ok.

WinterFrogs · 26/07/2025 09:46

Morning all! How is your dad @petalpower?

Having a nice slow start to the day today. Dh has gone for groceries so I've made space in the fridge. I feel some soup-making coming on with the leftovers. Then I'm hoping to finish my book.

It's feeling less humid here today to I'm hoping to feel energetic enough for some gardening. We're out tonight with some old friends so I'm looking forward to that.

Have a nice day everyone ☕️

Dad doesn’t seem to be improving as I’d hoped @WinterFrogs . They couldn’t take blood to check for infection levels as he was too agitated but I managed to keep him calm enough yesterday afternoon for the nurse to do it. We should have news on that today. We’re also waiting for the renal team to see him to assess his kidneys which aren’t in a good way. It’s very worrying. Thank you for thinking of him.

Peridot1 · 26/07/2025 10:03

Morning all.

Hope your Dad is doing better @petalpower.

A few extra jobs done here over last few days - took some charity shop bags to be dropped off yesterday while I was picking up a few parcels. Changed my bed including mattress and pillow protectors. Emptied the drawers under my bed as I want to pull it out from the wall to clean behind it. And measure for panelling which I am going to attempt to do myself and then paint the room. Sorted some duvets to take to be cleaned. Went to garden centre and bought some herbs to plant in a trough. Also a new mint plant as ours has gone bonkers and is so big it’s pulled the pot over.

Won’t get much done today as we are out at a party this afternoon. I’ve been for a walk and am about to do the dishwasher and then I need to iron trousers and a shirt for DH. He would do himself but standing for too long is still an issue.

Have a great Saturday all.

WinterFrogs · 26/07/2025 12:56

I'm sorry he's still so poorly @petalpower 😢
Wishing you and your family all the best 💐
@autumnangel 💐 for you too.

@Peridot1 things are coming on apace with ths jobs you're getting done! Impressed. I hope the party is fun

I'm (supposed to be) practising typing. I've resorted to ocean wave music and earphones as outside is noisy. Usual life noises of hedge trimming/ children playing etc but it's just a bit distracting.

I need to get outside for a bit of exercise.
No sign of soup yet but it is on a list. The fridge is clean though.

Dad was a little better today. Small steps forward. No blood results or renal team visit but I’m more positive. Heading home for a couple of days as my brother is now back (he was on holiday and lives locally to dad). Thank you for your kind words and thoughts.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/07/2025 01:01

Winter, I wiped my fridge out, too. 😅 What prompted you to (re) learn touch-typing?
Peridot, lots of tasks done! 🤗
Petal, glad you're able to head home for a bit of a re-charge. Hoping for continued improvement for your dad. 💛
Autumn, you're in my thoughts. 💛

Need to vacuum (again) wash floors and do laundry here. 🙄

Spent the day walking around Deer Lake and visiting the Burnaby Heritage Museum.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 27/07/2025 08:04

Hope so much your dad is better soon @petalpower Thanks Good you can get home for a few days rest. ❤

Thinking of you @autumnangel Thanks

fridge wiping on the agenda here too. I made it my mission a few weeks back to eat through our freezer and have done so quite successfully. Now I just have 'sides' like mixed veg and wedges and the like so today will do a grocery shop for fresh food. Planning cold roast chicken, avocado salad and tomato mozzarella salad for dinner. Otherwise I have many charity shop bags to dump but all the ones near me have signs up saying they can't take any more donations.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Peridot1 · 27/07/2025 10:15

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - I used a company that came to collect charity donations. You book them online and they some when they are in your area. Will try to remember what they were called. Otherwise British Heart Foundation do it too.

WinterFrogs · 27/07/2025 20:18

@Mumtobabyhavoc the touch typing was prompted by a thread on MN about three weeks ago. I can reliably touch type with all fingers now, but still slow. Quicker on my phone with two thumbs! I'm working on increasing speed now. Better late than never.

I've used the British heart foundation to collect donations too.

I've been really productive today 😁 House and car are clean, I made a vat of soup and a stew for across the week and then I fell asleep in front of the tv just now.

Just sorting myself out for tomorrow as I have an appointment first thing and then working for the rest of the day. Got to squeeze in a visit to my mother as well.

Early night tonight for me. I changed the bedding today and clean sheets always feel so luxurious, don't they? Bubbly bath then nose in a book - see how long I can keep my eyes open for!

OP posts:
SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 27/07/2025 20:30

Oh i love fresh bed sheets too. Smile
Thanks @Peridot1 for the hint about getting someone to collect. That is a MUCH better idea!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/07/2025 03:25

Put me as a Yea for clean sheets! I've always done it weekly unless necessary to do it sooner but have been letting it slide lately. Very unlike me.

I love the idea of randomly re-learning/learning something!

Before going out today I vacuumed, washed floors, cleaned shower tiles (steam mopped), took out kitchen garbage, folded/ put away clothes, steam cleaned couches (Havoc used wand vacuum under cushions)!) did a load of laundry and hung it up and steam mopped deck. Washed and vacuumed car a few days ago. Got to Costco this afternoon. Both dc are asleep and it's not even 7:30pm!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 28/07/2025 09:21

Morning all.

I am feeling very 'blah' about stuff today. So I plan to do a 30 minute clean downstairs; 30 minute clean and tidy upstairs and then a 30 minute declutter. Have booked a tip run for tomorrow. See how i feel after that.

Hope everyone is going well.

SpiritOfEdna · 28/07/2025 16:38

hello, surfacing from the depths of interviewing and warring colleagues - Line Manager is back and had done emails on flight home so knew what had been going on. Today has been a bit of a reset day for me
Today

  • ton of washing needs doing
  • never ending floors
  • I need to put all my sewing stuff away as been making bunting for sibling birthday party
  • find passport to do check in for CdS flight - that is coming up SOON. - Found & Done
  • need to notify CdS organisers that my outward bound flight has changed - thanks EasyJet
  • SpiritDoggo's tummy looked red and sore yesterday - wondering if she has scraped it going in and out of the river on roots and branches. Will keep an eye on in case needs the vets; she isn't complaining though
💐@autumnangel 💐💐@petalpower 💐 Right, off to join SpiritDoggo on a walk, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/07/2025 00:32

Lobelia, take it easy. You likely need some rest. ❤️
SoE, not long now! I hope you'll share pics of your epic trip. 😊 Hope doggo is ok? 😢

I finished another bit of painting in the kitchen while dc napped (Havoc is still asleep). I feel like I'm coming down with something. I took an allergy pill with no effect, so it's obv viral. 😣

There's a lot to be said for getting stuck in for short bursts isn't there? I hope you feel less blah now 💐
