@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - well done on the decluttering. I really need to get started with this.
@Peridot1 - glad you're back is better and hope you enjoyed the bbq
@Mumtobabyhavoc - looks like a good haul you've got there

Today I got out for a couple of hours and did some weeding before it got too hot. I still need to finish it but that can wait for another day.
I collected 2 parcels and booked both mine and DH's cars into the garage. Slow progress but progress none the less.

WinterFrogs · 13/07/2025 16:47

Slow progress is still progress 💕
I've pottered about today. A bit of reading, bit of typing practice, a visit from littlest, kept the house vaguely straight, had an ice cream. DH cleaned the bathroom, I've changed the bedding.
I'm going to have to iron my lightweight trousers as I need to wear them out in public for work tomorrow. We're going to the beach later once the sunbathers have gone. Low tide's around 8pm I think.

We clipped a bit of hedge as well.
All go in this house 😃
Best wishes to all ☕️ 🍰

Ugh it's so warm here. It's 30c inside here. 🥵
Havoc used the wand vacuum on one of the couches this morning and I did a big load of laundry. We all napped most of the afternoon. I was pretty worn out from the heat of yesterday. I think dc were, too. We went to the Carnival del Sol for a couple hours, parked several blocks away, so quite a good walk in the sun. 🥵 Then the splash park on Granville Island for a couple hours. Didn't think I'd get much else done today, but after dinner I washed the towels, vacuumed, steam-cleaned floors, area rugs and couches, then cleaned the deck rinsing it with a couple buckets of soapy water first then a few of clean water. If that wasn't enough, I used my steam cleaner on the railings and glass panels then over the deck. Done. 🥵

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 14/07/2025 07:19

Hi all.

I am afraid I did nothing much over the weekend! But i have to finish off decluttering the hallway today and start on the dining room.

And book another tip run.

Best wishes to everyone!

Peridot1 · 14/07/2025 10:30

That sounds like a lot in the heat @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Not much achieved here over the weekend. I’ve learned to operate the bbq. I did some laundry each day. Sat and read my book quite a bit.

I’ve just been for a walk and need to do a list of jobs for this week I think. And a menu plan for the week. And a shopping list. It might just be a day of lists.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/07/2025 12:48

morning - I had a blueberry bush that produced the grand sum of three blueberries a year which were delicious - this year there were none and the bush was dead so no more blueberries, so very envious mum2babyhavoc
Today is much much cooler and a not so busy day at work - lots of listening needed 😄
Today

  • car is being cleaned by GNiece so need to make sure have got everything and need to keep an eye out for a car space outside the front door : #carjenga
  • some more painting touch ups needed
  • still need to parcel up and send bag off for repair
  • still picking grass seeds out of dog #newhobby
  • have just done a 15 minute blitz tidying up clutter so I could locate my glasses
  • and now I've found my glasses, my laptop is absolutely disgustingly filthy.....
And we have just had a little bit of rain 😄 that's enough for the day, have a good one, SoE
autumnangel · 14/07/2025 21:07

Hope you enjoyed the beach @WinterFrogs
Sounds like you had a busy weekend @Mumtobabyhavoc
Well done on the decluttering @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia
Hope you've had a good day @SpiritOfEdna

I didn't really get much done over the weekend, it was far too hot to do anything. Today has been much cooler and I must prefer it this way. I saw some autumnal / halloween things in the shops today. I adore autumn but even I think this is far too early.
Today I returned 2 parcels, bought new jeans, took my car to get checked over as the air con isn't working. They couldn't fix it so I'm going to have to take it to the local garage another day. I have also taxed DH's car this morning as well. Now I'm going to put on my headphones and give the house a good tidy.

Hope everyone is well x

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/07/2025 21:25

SoE, my two surviving strawberry plants from last year have given me two strawberries. 🙄
Autumn, productive day. 🤗

Trying to get Havoc to nap. Proving futile. 😵‍💫
Baby is napping. I really want to get a bit of painting done.

WinterFrogs · 15/07/2025 07:41

Hello!
To your new jeans @autumnangel I raise you my new bra! I detest shopping but I had errands in town yesterday, and just happened to pass M&S, so I bit the bullet and went in. I have yet to try the thing on.
I would like to know if it's my bedroom mirror or shop mirrors that lie. Shop mirrors tell me that my 130lb frame looks like a misshapen potato yet at home, in my mirror, I look like a reasonably normal slightly squidgy middle aged (or old, depending on your perspective) woman.
Dealing with clothes and hair is a chore for me so I aim to look clean and tidy. I think I achieve that in the main. I'm too lazy for glamour 😆

@SpiritOfEdna it's grass seed season, isn't it? Our fluffy cat accumulates seeds and those sticky things (cleavers?) He's in overnight, and I brush him every morning before both of us have breakfast.

My car has a warning light on so it's going on one of those diagnostic things today. Seems to be a lot of it about!

My brother is home and on the mend. He's single so I'm keeping an eye on him, but like my mother, he's fiercely independent so I do it with caution. Mother is threatening to bust out of the nursing home to go and see him, forgetting that she can't drive, nor is she mobile enough to get into my car. I'll take him to see her once he can cope with it.

It's lovely hearing what you get up to with the Havocs, mum. I need a nap after reading it all, sometimes! DH and I are in the frame for a bit of child care over the holidays but we do it in tandem. Newest little one is full of cold, which is not fun for him or his parents.

Neglect is what strawberry plants need, evidently. Mine are going strong in the same bag and soil as they were planted in three years ago. We had quite a prolific crop but they've finished now.

Hoping for a day of near solitude today as things have been busy. I have a new Peter James whodunnit on the go, and it's quite gripping.

My daily extra is to sort out the airing cupboard.

I hope you all have a good Tuesday. It's cooled down today here which is a relief, and we have rain and a fresh breeze on the way, apparently.

petalpower · 15/07/2025 09:28

I took our strawberry plants out in the end as the birds always got there first and the berries were tiny - they didn’t earn their space in the plot. The raspberries on the other hand are fabulous and have only just finished. It’d really love a blueberry plant. Do they need to go in a pot?
That’s great news that your brother is out of hospital and on the mend @WinterFrogs . Your mum sounds quite a character from what you’ve said! Junior Petaldog always gets covered in cleavers too as he is a non clipped spaniel. It’s a daily job brushing them out of his coat at the moment.
@autumnangel you seem to be doing really well with jobs and getting things done. Has there been any change or improvement in your husband?
No projecteering going on here as we’re away on a UK based holiday. The first two days were incredibly hot, yesterday was sunshine and showers and today looks wet and windy until at least the early afternoon.

Peridot1 · 15/07/2025 10:45

Morning all.

Glad your brother is on the mend @WinterFrogs. And yay to a new bra!

@petalpower - enjoy your holiday. Re blueberries I read a few years ago that they do better in pots but our neighbours have one in their garden and I think it’s ok. I have two in pots but the birds always get to them before I do. They get all my berries and the deer got all my roses on the patio. And something dug up the bean plants that DH planted.

@autumnangel - I like autumn too but hate seeing things in the shops too early. Let us enjoy the summer! Although it’s raining hard at the moment! Can’t complain as it’s desperately needed.

I didn’t achieve too much yesterday. Took delivery of an air fryer. Second one in a week. Returned first one as it was way too big. Second one arrived but had a clip that holds the heating element rattling around in one of the drawers. So had to sort that. that will be collected now tomorrow. Had a few other things to pack up for sending various places so did that.

Am about to do the dishwasher and tidy the kitchen quickly and then I’m going to get my eyebrows tinted and have a pedicure. Plan this afternoon is to vacuum and wash the floors and so won’t is coming to measure up for some panelling we are hoping to have done. And I will either start some ironing or de-cobweb downstairs. I’ve bought some peppermint essential oil and a spray bottle so hoping to spray it around liberally and hope to keep the spiders out. We seem to get loads.

WinterFrogs · 16/07/2025 07:36

Morning! We have grapes on a vine, and for years we've just enjoyed watching the birds go mad for them around September. Some were edible that really hot summer a couple of years ago but usually they are very sour. I do worry about bird tummies though. I don't know if too much sour fruit affects them like it does us.
The slugs got my marigolds, but I think our resident hedgehog has seen to the slugs now. We used to get foxes but we cleared the area they lived in last year once the cubs had grown up and I haven't seen any this year.

It was an eyesore but I still feel a bit mean.

We didn't get any rain yesterday, although it threatened. It was a joy to be cooler.

I love Autumn, and October is my favourite month - except for the spiders. We get fewer since we had the cats. I thought the cats maybe hunt them, but apparently the spot on style flea treatments are toxic to spiders (dd has a pet jumping spider and I learnt this from her)

My mother is definitely quite a character, @petalpower She's mellowed a lot in the last couple of years. I hope you're enjoying your holiday!

I hope everyone is doing well. I thought of you all when I was brushing the cat earlier. He's moulting like mad at the moment.

I too find everything much cleaner when I don't have my glasses on @SpiritOfEdna !

Best wishes to you all 💕

Afternoon. Very knackered today! Early morning gym session and I did a 6 miles walk last night after which I was ready for bed - it was quite warm out.
Today

  • more pulling seeds out of SpiritDoggo
  • am still stuck in the middle of warring colleagues; but now I either have to escalate or broker a deal as the impact is playing out across the team (loathe to escalate, so brokering a deal is my first step) 😄They waited until my boss was on holiday before they started.
  • have done another load of shredding of my old company documents - very satisfying
  • more painting & touch ups in ten/fifteen minute blocks
  • Walk SpiritDoggo and then off to refpilates and hopefully I'll have remembered to get my kit out of the dryer
Hope everyone's OK, have a good one, SoE -
Peridot1 · 17/07/2025 15:53

Hi all. Just sitting with a cup of tea while the utility room floor dries. Have spent the day sorting it out in small stages. Third and hopefully final air fryer* was delivered today and I needed to clear a space to put it as I don’t want it out on the work top in the kitchen. Utility room is looking pretty good! For about five minutes I suspect.

(First one was too big so returned, second one was damaged so returned.)

Have also made up a spray bottle of water and peppermint oil so will wipe around with that and maybe deter the spiders.

Also cleaned top of stove and backsplash and general cooking area. Also changed filter in kettle.

Feeling accomplished!

@SpiritOfEdna - your work colleagues at war is one of the reasons I couldn’t work. I’d probably be sacked for being inappropriate in telling them to grow the hell up.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 17/07/2025 17:13

TBH I am so pleased I now mainly do freelance (well- temp) work when i hear of warring colleagues. I love being able to walk out at the end of a contract saying 'Not my problem'. Office politics always stressed me enormously. In a previous life I was (am) a solicitor but I hate conflict. Talk about a lousy choice in career!

I have the dreaded summer cold so took it easy today. The Dcs had friends around so I managed to throw chicken pasta down them. And I am binge watching the Madame Blanc Mysteries on netflix. Quite harmless and fun and I am hoping that Gendarme Caron takes his shirt off at some point.

Other than that I watered the pots and picked a few plums that have ripened. We also have a very fluffy baby crow that has been plonked on our balcony so I have been putting little bits of sausage out for him/ it/ his parents.

Hope everyone is well. Smile

autumnangel · 17/07/2025 22:32

Sorry I haven't been on for a few days. My incredible DH died yesterday and I am beyond heartbroken. I know I haven't been here for long but you have all been wonderful. Maybe I'll come back to this thread tomorrow, next week, next month I don't know. I do know that this thread and all you lovely people have been a great comfort so thank you all.

Aria999 · 18/07/2025 01:49

Oh no @autumnangel how terrible. I am so sorry.

WinterFrogs · 18/07/2025 07:15

@autumnangel I am so sorry to read this 😢
My condolences to you and to all who loved him.
I hope you have people to lean on at this time xx

OP posts:
SpiritOfEdna · 18/07/2025 07:25

@autumnangel I am so so so sorry xx In these raw early days please try and look after yourself x

WinterFrogs · 18/07/2025 07:28

@SpiritOfEdna I am in awe of your getting fit efforts! Not long now is it?
I am seeing a lot more people in a day now, and often by the end of it I'm ready to curl into a ball and hide under a blanket.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia we have a local seagull who I've determinedly not fed, but comes looking anyway. The cat is elderly and the seagull beak looks ferocious so I'm not going to encourage it!

We do have baby swallows at the stables though 💕

I have promised my mum another photobox album so I need to get on with that. She loves showing them to the staff. Very humid out. We have a storm forecast, and not before time as we have a hosepipe ban here.

A big water pipe burst locally recently, causing mayhem for an afternoon, and a massive loss of water which didn't help. I do think we need more reservoirs.

Best wishes to you all ❤️

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 18/07/2025 07:49

Oh @autumnangel I am so so sorry to hear your news. My condolences to you.

I echo @SpiritOfEdna and @WinterFrogs please do look after yourself right now and lean on people when you need to. Thanks. You must feel utterly shocked and so raw. Please make sure you keep hydrated and eat a little even when you feel you can't.

You are always welcome on the thread- whenever you decide to return. Even if you want to just talk. We are here. Thanks

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 18/07/2025 08:00

So frustrating about the burst water main @WinterFrogs . Especially now with all the talk of hosepipe bans.

I have to rub one thing off my To Do list today. Not yet sure what it will be. Probably the easiest thing.

Best wishes to all. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/07/2025 09:26

@autumnangel I'm just up with baby and reading your awful, awful news. I'm so very sorry. Sending you strength to get through this dark time and hoping you will find comfort and support in your family and friends.
Life is so unfair and there's no rhyme or reason for these tragedies. I'm so sorry. 💐

Peridot1 · 18/07/2025 22:20

Oh @autumnangel i am so sorry. There really are no words. How awful and heartbreaking for you. This wasn’t what you were expecting. I’m sure you are reeling. I don’t know what to say but sending you much love and condolences and comfort.

petalpower · 19/07/2025 09:08

So sorry to hear your news @autumnangel . I hope you’ve got lots of RL support and are being taken care of. We’d love to see you back on this thread as and when you feel able in the weeks and months ahead.
