@mumofoneAlonebutokay Just checking on you. 💛
Lobelia, you'll have to report back re the movie. I'll be waiting for it on Netflix, though. 🍿 I guess I need to buy some sort of spray paint now.

Had wide awake children, so we went for a drive and ended up at the lookout in Cypress Mtn. It was a gorgeous night.

petalpower · 08/07/2025 11:13

That great that you’re feeling so positive @autumnangel ! Hope you have a good day.

petalpower · 08/07/2025 13:26

The cottage is one we’ve been to once before @Mumtobabyhavoc . It’s on completely the opposite side of the country to where we live so it’s a bit of a journey. It has beautiful coastal views and is in a very quiet location.

SpiritOfEdna · 08/07/2025 13:59

Morning, I quite fancy a donut now ( a proper old school one, not a fancy one!) Busy weekend with one thing or another but at least the thought of visitors kicked us into getting some stuff done; and now I've painted some door frames I can't stop 😄
I was driving down to the Midlands on Friday to meet up with some friends, and my car was really struggling to accelerate and the engine was roaring away (not good on the motorway) so turned back - got it to a garage on Monday and it needs a new clutch - which is very expensive and the garage doesn't accept credit cards. Anyway, I need my car, so, there we are.
Today

  • more painting
  • need to find a particular bank statement so filing it is
  • chased up on where my duvet is at the dry cleaners
  • order a paint sample
  • look at finances - oh joy
  • took some photos
Work is busy, having to mediate between squabbling architects, BAs, developers and, now, my boss. I'd quite like to tell them all to shut up, but you know, diplomacy.

That's all for today, I might go and burn off some stress in the gym when I finish work today 😄, have a good one, SoE

autumnangel · 08/07/2025 18:44

What a beautiful photo @Mumtobabyhavoc
The cottage sounds lovely @petalpower
I have zero understanding of cars @SpiritOfEdna and hate when I have to put it into the garage but it needs to be done doesn’t it

This morning I managed to tidy up, dust and hoover all downstairs and strip my bed. I visited DH for a bit but he was taken for another op so just waiting to hear that he's back so I can go see him again. In the meantime I'm going to remake the bed and tidy upstairs. Would be good to come home tonight to a nice tidy house then I can start to establish some sort of cleaning routine. It's not a real priority at the moment but a clean house does make me feel a bit better about life.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/07/2025 05:48

Sorry about your car SoE.

I'm glad we went out last night (and to spray park today) because it's been raining since about 5pm. It was quite warm and sunny then just dark and humid by about 2pm. I do love a summer rain, though.

Trigger Warning

Have got a large load of laundry on - just heard the I'm finished music- after putting everything in from the laundry basket without separating. 🫣😱
I'm off to go hang it up then get dc ready for bed. It's late and they have swimming tomorrow morning.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 09/07/2025 06:53

Morning all.

Commiserations about your car SoE. Our 'big;' car had the clutch replaced just last week. I feel your pain.

Hope the operation went well @autumnangel and you can see your DH. Thanks

Splash park- lovely idea!

I woke up tired but keen to do a massive clearout. Today I plan to go through our downstairs sitting room. I will have 3 piles- keep / tip / charity shop. I plan to devote an hour a day to each room and just go through until it is done. My very next task is to book a tip run for tomorrow.

I also simply have to get on top of life admin. Even one task a day will see my 'to do' list cleared.

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

autumnangel · 09/07/2025 08:17

Last night I managed to tidy up everywhere so I've been enjoying seeing the floor and surfaces this morning. I also managed to go through a drawer of extra toiletries and see what I need to restock. I've wrote myself a list of things to do today but no pressure if they don't get done. I've also deleted all the time sucking games from my phone. Sometimes I think I'll sit down for 10 minutes and play my game and before I know it a good hour has passed!

Today's tasks are:

  • Collect prescription
  • Send angry emails re a 'letterbox gift' I bought that wasn't posted through the letterbox and was lifted by a passerby
  • Order toiletries online

I managed to see DH for a bit last night which was nice. The doctor said it could be weeks before he wakes up "if there's no complications". It's hard to remain positive but I'm trying to imagine him coming home - especially to a clean, tidy, decluttered, organised home. He's always liked everything to be in order anyway and I know it will be really important to him to be living in a nice calm environment so I keep telling myself that by the time I've got the house sorted he'll be awake and that keeps me busy and motivated.

Hope everyone has a lovely day x

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/07/2025 16:10

Oh, @autumnangel I can't imagine what you're going through. 💐
I agree puttering helps keep you occupied. I hope you've got some support as well. 💛

Lobelia, I really need to get motivated and keep telling myself to eke out an hour..

Peridot1 · 09/07/2025 16:38

Hi all

Sorry about the car @SpiritOfEdna - sounds expensive!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I have separate laundry baskets so everything gets separated before it reaches the machine. Usually.

@autumnangel - I hope your DH improves. You sound like doing things is helping you to feel a bit more in control. It does for me too. When everything is chaotic I feel my head tends to spin a bit.

As part of deep cleaning the house (which is desperately needed judging by the cobwebs and dust everywhere) I decided to start with DS’s bedroom this morning. Partly as cleaner was coming and she could then do the bathroom. All was going well until I pulled something in my back. Moving weights while bent over I suspect. So I’ve been hobbling and out of action since. Cleaner made up the bed for me thankfully as I was dreading that. Would have left it for DS but he’s not back till late tonight. So between DH’s knee and my back we are a sorry pair.

I did get half the room cleaned. Hopefully can finish it tomorrow.

Aria999 · 09/07/2025 18:23

Hello all!

things are a little more under control in the house. On Monday we had a day off. I cleared out the big food cupboard and threw away 3 large bin bags of (e.g.) speciality flour that wanted to be eaten in 2022. We had a moth problem in the cupboard so it was urgent.

DH tidied up the ENTIRE HOUSE excluding the kids rooms in the time it took me to do this. He is so much better at tidying up than I am, it's embarrassing. Anyway as a result I have had clear floors to work with and have got a lot of vacuuming done today!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/07/2025 19:11

Peridot, sorry about your back. I recommend ordering a TENS machine. You'll likely find one on Amazon.

autumnangel · 10/07/2025 07:22

Hope you back is better @Peridot1
I feel like I'm very slow with everything I do @Aria999 but I keep telling myself slow is better than not at all.

Last night I cleaned the bathroom - yay!! Not all of it cos I'm slow but at least half of it so I don't feel so bad every time I go in there now. I also collected my prescription and bought new pillowcases.

Slow and steady is definitely the way forward.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/07/2025 07:39

Horror bedroom. Ugh. I've mentioned it in the past. 😱
I waded in and removed and broke down 6 empty boxes and took them to recycling. 🤗

Peridot1 · 10/07/2025 11:31

A TENS machine is a great idea thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Back is much better today anyway thankfully. It had eased off a lot by last night. I did manage to get a chiropractor appointment for this morning so that helped too.

Watered the pots on the patio and the greenhouse early this morning before it gets too hot. Also picked four courgettes so need to figure something out to use them. DH planted them but isn’t actually that keen on them. Have stripped a bed and the mattress and pillow protectors are currently in the machine. Need to dust and vacuum that room and remake the bed.

Not sure I’ll achieve much else today.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 10/07/2025 12:51

Sounds like you achieved plenty considering your back @Peridot1 !

My mother used to make a courgette and walnut teacake that was delicious spread with real butter.

I have almost finished decluttering the drawing room. One charity shop bag. One recycling bag and one black bin bag. Now waiting for the various throws and cushions to dry after washing them then I will put it all back together.

Next task - the hallway.

Thanks to everyone.

SpiritOfEdna · 10/07/2025 14:17

Afternoon, it's verrry warm here, so not much going on besides some lazy tidying up of my bedroom. I got my car back it runs like a dream, and is very quiet so I think the clutch may have been going for quite some time!

My taxi driver yesterday got very excited when he heard what I was doing for my holidays and gave me loads of hints and tips - most I already knew but.... I was glad to get out the cab when he started going on about non-chafing underwear 😅 I've just booked to climb Snowdonia the week before as final prep. I know my rucksack is going to annoy me - it does on shorter walks.
Anyways, today

  • room tidy
  • wash gym kit for pilates later & weights tomorrow - I might put them in the freezer when they are dry 😄
  • recycle coffee pods
  • work out a plan for the weekend so I can get out on a long walk and make sure SpiritDoggo is kept cool and safe when we are out. It'll be something near water 😄Sunday very early is my best thought
  • second coat of paint on one door frame and then done
  • walk SpiritDoggo later when it's a bit cooler
Not much at all for today, hope everyone's OK, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/07/2025 18:01

Peridot, glad you're doing better. 🤗
SoE, non-chaffing underwear is probably a good idea. 🤔 I'm motivated by your painting. I have a lot to paint still, but need to do it when dc are asleep/napping and I'm not too tired.
Lobelia, I love a good zucchini bread. Here, they are typically made in loaf pans and called a "bread" like the way we make/say "banana bread." I'm the exception, and make both in a square cake pan, but cut into 1", or so, slices and not squares.

DC were playing on the deck while I was putting together breakfast, I asked them to go wash hands and when I went into the bathroom I saw dirty footprints on the floor. I had just cleaned the bathroom and washed the floor not 30 mins earlier. 🤬 So, bath was given. 🙄
I wiped floor because it must stay clean for at least half the day. 🤬 And now I know I need to wash the deck again. 🤦‍♀️
My extra today was wiping baseboards in hall by bathroom, a bedroom door frame and the bathroom doorframe and light switch plate.

😂😂😂😂

Upside is I've got a cup of tea and just finished eating a bun with some prosciutto and cheese from a nice deli tray I bought yesterday. 😋

WinterFrogs · 10/07/2025 18:46

Hello all! I too am slowly but surely @autumnangel

I have achieved bitty things. And no, that's nota Little Britain reference...

Just bits and bobs, phone calls, emails. Have yet to change an appointment for mother but tomorrow's another day.

I need to clean out and disinfect my kitchen bin as a domestic daily project. And the cat needs a brush.

I tried to pay a parking fine and I can't tell if the payment went through so I'll wait a couple of days. The last one showed on my bank account three days later.

What else...oh, watered the herb garden.

OP posts:
autumnangel · 10/07/2025 23:04

I really should go water the garden but I'm tucked up in bed now so that can be a job for tomorrow. I've got a terrible habit of putting things in bags, like bags for life. Even as a child my dad used to call me 'the bag lady'. Anyway today I managed to empty one of the bags and actually put the things away instead of just moving the stuff around.
Also phoned M&S about the letterbox parcel that wasn't posted through the letterbox and has now gone missing and they offered to send another which I thought was really good of them.
I pottered about this morning and did my usual daily chores but tonight I have doomscrolled. Finding the balance between chilling and being productive is proving a bit difficult!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/07/2025 09:15

Good result re the parcel @autumnangel

I have decluttered half the hallway- 2 bags for the tip and 3 bags for the charity shop. Most of the latter are coats and boots that I bought (usually online) and never liked in situ or wore.

I think I'll save the other half for tomorrow as I need to do the regular maintenance house clean and also taking the DCs bowling.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 11/07/2025 11:54

Morning all.

Good clearing out @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - when we had dogs that made recently washed floors annoyingly filthy within minute I found the microfibre flat mops great. Rinse the microfibre pad under the tap, stick it on the mop and wipe floor quickly. You might already have them of course! So much easier and quicker than a mop and bucket.

@autumnangel - definitely do the bags! My MIL used to do the same with bags and it very quickly got out of control. They were all piled up neatly around the house but it became a huge job to tackle.

@WinterFrogs - I watered our herb garden too last night. Too late for the quince we have in a big pot unfortunately I think. Because of where the herb garden is I never remember to water it. It’s a bit of a mess currently but I’m inspired to get it sorted out again. Our mint has gone ridiculously big and is falling out of its pot. A trip to the garden centre may be in the cards later…..

Peridot1 · 11/07/2025 12:00

Oops posted too soon!

Back is back to being fine thankfully. Had cancelled my PT session for today though just in case but went and did a big walk and then a mini core workout when I got back. So feeling pretty virtuous!

Washed bedding from yesterday and hung it out and then stripped my bed and that bedding is currently in the machine.

My new stem cleaner arrived yesterday so might have a play with it. I just went for a basic cheap one @Mumtobabyhavoc as I don’t need it for floors.

Also have an air fryer arriving today. Went a bit mad on Amazon Prime deals!

Have a great day all

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/07/2025 06:10

Peridot, I bought a couple things on Prime as well. 😂🤷‍♀️

Got into the garden this evening after taking dc out to Playland (amusement park) and hacked away. My tomato plant had been left alone and ignored and sure enough decided to grow like crazy. It was so big and bushy, full of not yet ripe tomatoes and was toppling over. So, amputations were necessary, but I think it'll be okay. The spearmint had also gone mad and got cut back a lot. The thyme was a tangled mess, but the smell was gorgeous as I was cutting and untangling it. Did the necessary weeding and tidy up. The bonus was a large harvest of blueberries and some peas. After eating the berries by the handful finally decided to add some of a cup of froyo. Havoc picked and ate fresh peas for the first time tonight.
I will have to plan to roast a chicken with some of the thyme as soon as the weather cools. Temps are nearing 30c right now and I'm not keen to put the oven on for too long.

Daily Project round 7
Peridot1 · 12/07/2025 10:29

Morning all.

Great harvest @Mumtobabyhavoc. We are having similar temperatures here at the moment. Know just what you mean about not wanting the oven on. I think we are going to bbq tonight. Well I am as DH can’t really stand. I’ve never done it before. But how hard can it be? It’s a gas bbq so don’t have to mess about with coals.

Not too much being achieved here as it’s just too hot to do much. I need a quick supermarket shop for a few bits and I think that will be it.

Have a great Saturday all.
