Awww @Mumtobabyhavoc that's lovely about baby! Kitchen floors get messed up so fast don't they?!

that sounds really hard @autumnangel, I hope things get better for you and DH

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/07/2025 22:22

Bathroom cleaned. ✅
Paper mail has been filed or trashed. ✅
This was a huge task and it went back a few months.😅 (mail, not bathroom!) 😆
Called my pension provider to add baby as a beneficiary and set up online acct. ✅
Long overdue admin task. 🙄

Load of towels in the wash.✅
Need to buy bleach. 🤔
Wiped out laundry basket with vinegar. ✅

Havoc and I have just had lunch. Found an Easter chocolate in the fridge and gave to Havoc for dessert which brought a lovely surprised smile. Baby is asleep. 😇

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 04/07/2025 06:02

Morning all.

@autumnangel how did you sleep? Hope you are okay and also managing to eat nourishing food to keep yourself going. Thanks Best wishes to your DH.

I'm sleeping badly as my anxiety is in overdrive right now. I'm great at helping DS1 manage his anxiety- rather rubbish at mine! But school finishes today YAY!!

I need to make a plan for our big summer holiday. i need to also do a careful review of our July household budget because I am trying to funnel as much cash into the holiday account. I plan to do the latter over a quiet glass of wine later this afternoon.

petalpower · 04/07/2025 17:11

Welcome back @autumnangel . Sorry to hear your DH is so unwell. I hope you’ve got plenty of support and are looking after yourself.
Do you think your anxiety will ease when the school holidays start @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ?
I’ve had a productive day so am now sitting watching Wimbledon! I’ve had a big sort through auntie’s paperwork and have shredded lots. Also thrown out some of her photo albums which was hard but they’re photos of people I don’t recognise and obviously auntie is no longer with us. I’ve been chipping away at her remaining belongings and working out what’s meaningful that I’d like to keep and what I’m hanging on to through feeling I should.
It’s been very quiet around these parts recently. I hope everyone is ok and just busy with life.

WinterFrogs · 04/07/2025 21:06

Hello everyone 👋
Lovely to read all the news. I'll pop back in over the weekend to catch up properly ☕️ 🍰

Hello all.

Sounds like a productive task @petalpower. Hard but necessary.

Hope you are ok @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia. Deep breaths and relaxation prescribed!

Normal tasks getting done slowly here. DH’s knee is bad again. It is beyond frustrating that he won’t actually see a doctor. Deep sigh.

Anyway. Extra task today was bagging up a pile of clothes for charity that have been on the spare bed for weeks. Taking a bag of books into my neighbour to see if she wants any of them. And I cleaned my dressing table and went through a couple of drawers. I might end up with a couple of empty drawers which will be useful.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

autumnangel · 05/07/2025 19:24

Thank you to everyone who has made me feel welcome @SpiritOfEdna @Peridot1 @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia @Mumtobabyhavoc @Aria999 @petalpower unfortunately DH has a brain injury and the doctors are not sure of the extent of it yet.

I haven't managed to clean the bathroom yet but will get up and do that soon along with some washing. Yesterday I cooked a meal for the first time in 4 weeks which was an achievement and I have some leftover for tonight even though I really don't feel like eating.

I might not have an extra task or even manage my daily tasks every day but I hope it's still ok if I hang about here. You all seem so lovely and I remember in the past this thread felt like a big warm blanket.

petalpower · 05/07/2025 20:29

That sounds really difficult @autumnangel . Of course it’s ok to hang around here and not do tasks. It sounds as though you’ve got enough on your plate and anything extra is a bonus.
Today I’ve returned a pair of trousers to M and S and finished burning the rest of auntie’s paperwork from many years back. I was shredding it but it was taking up a lot of bin space so I fired up the wood burner instead.
What do you think your DH has done to his knee @Peridot1 ?

Peridot1 · 05/07/2025 22:24

@autumnangel - I really hope your DH improves. Such a stressful time. I’m sure you don’t know which end is up at times. The bathroom can wait. Cooking is way more important as you need to eat. Hard as it may be. Even a few mouthfuls.

@petalpower - he stupidly tried to move a barbell with about 50kg on out of his way in the garage by pushing it with his foot sideways. It didn’t move. So he pushed harder. He thinks he wrecked the cartilage. And he had issues with that knee years ago and had surgery. We are in week 7.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/07/2025 01:45

Peridot, your dh's injury sounds painful. We've all done something stupid and hurt ourselves, haven't we? (Maybe not to that extent, though...)
Autumn, that sounds bad. Has he been in hospital for a month? It's a bit trite, but try to look after yourself. 💛

Just managed laundry this morning. I was going to vacuum, but knew I'd never get out the door if I did. There are now crumbs all over the couch and floor from baby walking around eating a bun. 😩
Spent the afternoon in Kits at the Khatsahlano party. It's 10 blocks, but we only walked from the end as far as the kids's stage. That was enough. Walked west Broadway and visited the library, too, so it was a full day. 😅

WinterFrogs · 06/07/2025 07:37

Good morning!
@autumnangel sending love and best wishes to you, and healing wishes to your DH. The brain is a remarkable thing and can surprise you in what it can recover from, but it's a long haul and the not knowing is so stressful, isn't it? As the others have said, look after yourself and you are welcome on our lovely blankety thread (((hugs)))

WinterFrogs · 06/07/2025 07:45

👋 to everyone else. Off out shortly. Volunteering again 🐴 🌞
Yesterday's task was soaking and disinfecting the cat's litter tray - only i forgot to bring it in last night. Poor chap was desperate to go out this morning. I am wicked but thankfully he has a strong bladder! No catflap here. DH is quite convinced that it's inviting burglers. So if he's not about I just leave a window open instead. It's difficult to access our back garden. The robbers would have to be exceptionally keen and very resourceful!
Catch you all later 😊

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 06/07/2025 07:47

Morning all.

I echo everything everyone else has said @autumnangel . Thanks ❤Do make sure you take care of yourself- the stress you are under is huge. xx

It is a blankety thread. Smile Almost literally in my case as I dreamed last night that I put together a long list of 5 and 10 minute jobs and then told you all about it.

So today's task is to put together a list of 5 and 10 minute jobs and then to tell you all about it. 😆

It will be jobs like 'painting a terracotta pot in a different colour'. That sort of thing. Although I dreamed I painted all our window sills a dark yellow - which my waking self has rejected immediately.

Today i need to do some work on the patio though. Our foxes have made a bit of a mess.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 06/07/2025 07:48

My DH is the same about cat flaps @WinterFrogs !

WinterFrogs · 06/07/2025 16:47

How are the short jobs going @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ?
Sorry, I've been absent so I won't mention everyone today but I hope you are all okay.

I have had fresh air and exercise, DH is asleep in front of the TV but as he came with me this morning I'm leaving him in peace!

Today I am getting clothing organised for the week ✔️ Visited my brother in hospital and taken his clean washing ✔️ Heavy storm clouds (literal ones) are gathering here. I am practicing my typing ( very late to the party at 58 years old but better late than never!)
Done some weeding ✔️ Long chat with a friend on the phone ( have yet to video call anybody except my children and the little ones)
Soon I hope i will be typing posts on a keyboard and not my phone!

It's thundering now but no rain. Everything is green and grey! Need to decide on what's for dinner, and I have once again vowed to eat out of the freezer all week so should have a rummage really.

I have brought the litter tray in!

OP posts:
petalpower · 06/07/2025 20:29

We’ve had thunder and some rain here this afternoon too @WinterFrogs - the dogs were not impressed! How is your brother doing in hospital? It sounds as though you have a lot to juggle.
How’s the jobs list looking @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ? It made me smile that you had a dream about your list!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/07/2025 04:04

Hope everyone had a good weekend. 😊
Hope no burglars, Winter.
I love a good summer rain, Petal.
Peridot, I am going to attempt using the steam cleaner to get crayon off the couch. 🙄
Major task was wiping floor of crumbs and pee today. Baby took diaper off and... 🤦‍♀️

In other news: took dc to fleet week for a tour of one of our navy ships (90min line) 🥵, play at the spray park 😎 and then picked up donuts on the way home. 😋

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 07/07/2025 07:49

Morning all.

We had a tiny bit of thunder and a drizzle here. @petalpower

Hope your Dbro is okay @WinterFrogs Thanks

You do so much with the Havocs @Mumtobabyhavoc ! They are going to have the most amazing experiences and memories as they grow!

I did not get far with my list. One of my autoimmune thingies has been flaring a bit so I am exhausted. I weeded the pots on the patio then fell asleep in front of netflix. So far my list looks like;

  1. Buy terracotta paint for plastic pots. (DH has an aversion to proper terracotta pots because the water evaporates too fast. But plastic pots are UGLY. It's been a 20 year 'conversation' )
  2. Re-pot fig tree
  3. Research archaeology field trips for DH- he's always wanted too do one
  4. write holiday packing list
  5. Buy combination padlocks for our gates
  6. Wash DC school blazers so they are ready for the autumn term.

For number 4 I did do that. And then ordered some earplanes for our holiday. I am sure I have talked about them before as I am evangelical. But they are little ear plugs that regulate cabin pressure on descent and alleviate the pain in ears some can experience. I thought they were a placebo until I tried them and think they are the bees knees.

Today the gardeners come. Love a bit of delegation! And i have a lunch out with friends. The school blazers will be today as well.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 07/07/2025 09:15

Morning all.

@Mumtobabyhavoc -you definitely do lots with your little ones. And doughnuts….. yum. My steam cleaner is going to the tip as it just didn’t work when I tried to use it last time. I’m on the hunt for a new one in the Amazon Prime deals this week.

Hope everyone is doing well. I’ve read all updates but won’t tag everyone as will be here all day.

We had quite a lot of rain yesterday which we desperately needed and it’s raining again this morning.

Yesterday’s extra tasks were finally sewing a button on a shirt so that and the sewing kit have gone back upstairs. Washing the rubbish bin from under the dressing table in my bedroom. And weeding a planter in one corner of the garden. Went up to water it with some water from the condenser dryer and pulled out some weeds while there. I also emptied another drawer from my dressing table - all travel size toiletries and skin care. They are currently on the floor so need sorting today.

Today’s list:

  • usual kitchen/dishwasher
  • Clean cooker/stove
  • start wiping down kitchen units
  • vacuum kitchen/dining/sitting area
  • menu plan
  • sort the mess I made on my bedroom floor
  • laundry
  • fold/put away laundry from yesterday

Have a good day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/07/2025 16:08

Lobelia, that's quite a list! I love the idea of an archaeology trip. 🤓 I have two metal lanterns that need re-painting. I've put it off because removing the glass panes or covering them will be a pain. I would like to paint them ted. They are faded yellow. I have LED lights in them. I try to make the most of our city for the kids. I google "vancouver + date" and see what pops up cheap/free. I'm going try for the bouncy park again, but that won't be cheap as will have to pay for Havoc now as Havoc is 3. I do buy science world and aquarium year passes as that is a great deal and we go a lot.
Kids are running around now. Will pop back later. 🙂
I did manage to vacuum after dc fell asleep last night.

petalpower · 07/07/2025 16:47

I agree with @Peridot1 , you always do such lovely things with your children @Mumtobabyhavoc !
I’ve had quite a good day for jobs:

  • the carpenter has been back with some completed furniture fixing and has taken away three more things
  • cleaned some silver from auntie’s which I’m thinking of selling as I have no emotional attachment and it will just sit in a cupboard
  • 4 loads of washing done and line dried - where does it all come from?
  • met a lovely friend for lunch - she works in a charity shop so I took a bag of donations and also went via a local recycling point in the church
  • planned food for our upcoming holiday - self catering cottage with no shops close by so needs a bit of thinking about
  • arranged for neighbour’s son to water my veg garden whilst we’re away
  • labelled some box files containing family paperwork
  • usual Monday morning house reset of bins, recycling, putting things back where they live etc.
Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/07/2025 19:24

Petal, cottage holiday sounds so peaceful. Are you going to an area you are familiar with?
Peridot, Please share info about your new steam cleaner when you buy it! My big tip is to make sure you can buy replacement parts and pads easily/cheaply.
Mine is a bissell and it's $$$ to buy replacement anything.
I love donuts. So far my reco is Lee's on Granville Island (and various locations now) and Las Vegas Donuts on Knight (haven't tried their Robson location).
And wondering if Knight St location is still there as building had a zoning application, so owner wants to re-develop property. Nothing beats a fresh properly deep fried donut with a coffee (or tea if you prefer).

https://vegasdonuts.ca

eta: I'm also leaning toward a canister steam cleaner for next purchase. I'm not sold on hand-held/upright after 2 years use.

Lee's Donuts

Lee's Donuts - Vancouver's mom and pop donut shop located in the Granville Island Public Market. Serving handmade, quality, classic donuts since 1979.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 08/07/2025 07:32

You have reminded me I also have metal
lanterns that need repainting @Mumtobabyhavoc !

Have a lovely holiday @petalpower !

Today- taking the DCs to see the F1 movie. Not our usual fare I have to say but we thought we would give it a go.

Stopping at the garden centre on the way back to look at paint colours.

happy days all!

autumnangel · 08/07/2025 07:53

This thread really fills up doesn't it!
I've woken up this morning feeling quite positive about everything. I have accepted DH is going to be in hospital for months as he is still really unwell and will need a lot of rehab. I'm trying not to let it consume my every thought as I will lose the plot eventually if I do.
Anyway, I've got the morning free so I am going to give the whole house some love. It has seriously been neglected these last 4 weeks and a tidy house is a tidy mind and all that.
Hope everyone is doing good and I'll come back later to update
