Not sure if he has done enough @petalpower . He has not yet done any of the volunteering component which we are looking at next. I suspect this might be a multi-year thing just to get bronze!

I need to clean my detergent dispenser too. Today will be the pre-cleaner clean for me.

Happy days everyone!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/06/2025 16:39

Lobelia and Petal, thanks for reminding me to attend to my washing machine. I must clean the filter. I tend to neglect that.

My extra yesterday: cleaned the deck and tidied all the crap on it. 😬
I found my new hummingbird feeder in the garden filled with ants. 😲 I cleaned it, drowned the ants down the drain as they were inside when I opened it in the kitchen sink, re-filled it and hung it on the deck.

I have a bit of anxiety now that the ants may have survived somehow and crawl back up. 🤔

Peridot1 · 11/06/2025 17:08

Hello all

Sounds like a good extra job @petalpower. I’m pretty good at washing the detergent drawer but not the filter. Must put that on my list!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I’m sure the ants will be well washed down!

I did a few extra tasks today. A little more tidying in my bedroom. And DS’s bedroom. And the small spare bedroom so the cleaner could clean it as DS’s friend is coming tomorrow for a couple of nights. Also vacuumed and washed the kitchen floor and took everything off the island unit to give it a good clean and declutter it a bit. Then gave the utility room sink a good clean and soaked the rack in bleach.

Then this afternoon I did some power washing on the patio. DH started it weeks ago but didn’t get to finish before doing his knee in. I have never done it before. It’s flipping hard work! Got about half of what was left to do done. Hopefully will finish tomorrow.

WinterFrogs · 11/06/2025 17:31

I bet you're cursing that knee of his @Peridot1! Good jobs by you 👏

I also need to check my washing machine filter.

DofE is not my idea of fun either @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia He did well giving it a go. Sorry about the food sensory issues - bet he was ravenous on Monday!

Not one of us in my family likes organised 'fun'. Nobody's into sport or any kind of competition, and yet everyone is active on their own terms. Save for DH, who watches sport but no longer partakes. Hiking/riding/ climbing/swimming are the activities of choice for the rest of us as they can be as solitary or sociable as we wish. Sensory issues caused difficulty with kit in some organised activities too.

And I'm off again 😆

I hope you enjoy your pottery course @Peridot1

I was out the door early today and only just home, but i did manage the basics before I left. And for daily project purposes, I moved the microwave to cleaned under and behind it. Dinner is leftovers.

I plan to put my feet up this evening.

I still haven't done the photo album but i did check in with mother and siblings today, and all is well.

Best wishes to you all 👋

What is a washing machine filter @Mumtobabyhavoc and where does it live?! I clean the one on my drier but the washer one is news to me 😳

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/06/2025 18:54

Aria, my machine has a little door on the bottom front. You put a little pail under it, open it, take out the hose and drain it. Then remove the filter by twisting ot and pulling it out. Water drains from that, too, when you do it. Then clean it and put it all back. Check your manual.

petalpower · 11/06/2025 21:22

Hope you’ve all had a good day- it’s been beautiful weather here!
My extra job today was to wash all the dog blankets, towels and bed covers. Senior Petaldog sheds a lot of hair and Junior Petaldog is a muddy little boy so they create a lot of filth! I also went to the jewellers who are remodelling a ring I have inherited from my late mum. The design still isn’t quite right and I want it to be perfect. Popped into Aldi for some orange juice and came out with much more - how does that happen?!

SpiritOfEdna · 12/06/2025 15:50

hello - grey skies here - we want the sun!
Today, busy day at work, so doing stuff in and around meetings, whilst looking longingly at a bowl of strawberries I've put to one side for sibling.

  • extra job for today was talking the GNiece to her hospital appointment and back to school. I did do a detour on way back to school as I was chatting and drove as if to go to our normal dog walking place 😄
  • I need to make various appointments for when I get paid - haircut and eyetest - which will make me feel less skint than I actually am.
  • done a load of washing so I can have clean kit for refpilates tonight
  • am trying to get my head around project reporting today and I am procrastinating here 😄although the source documentation is pretty rubbish which is making things more difficult grr
Ok, back to reporting, an intense 90 minutes should do it, have a good day, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/06/2025 17:28

SoE I think your subconsious was telling you that you needed a walk... 😊

Woke up at 6:45ish, Havoc a few mins after and baby just after Havoc. Stripped the bed and threw sheets into washer. Well, Havoc and baby did! 😍 I did the rest.
Cooked up a pot of steel-cut oats for dc's breakfast and now just going to rush to get myself, and baby, ready to get to baby's activity across town. Have been watching awful news about plane crash in India. Glad to get away from the tv now.

WinterFrogs · 14/06/2025 14:36

Hello! Who got the big storm last night? It's all looking lovely and fresh round our way now!
I am having a bit of a sort out, as I am moving my office area upstairs. Things have 'evolved' a bit with various family comings and goings, so I'm rehoming bookshelves and stationery and paperwork. Also I'm in charge of dinner tonight so I need to at least decide what we're having. In a vague attempt to look on top of things when DH gets home from watching cricket.

I hope you are all having a good day 😘

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 14/06/2025 15:54

No storms here as far as i know, but unusually I slept really soundly until about 5 am.

Today I am guiding the DCs through the cooking extravaganza that is 'chicken stir fry'. I have decided that they need to cook Saturday dinners so they aren't absolutely hopeless (as I was!) when/if they get to university / flee fly the nest.

But back to classic daily projects as well- planning tip runs and planting out pot bound pots this week.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 15/06/2025 01:19

Lobelia, I also need to take stuff to recycling. Thanks for the prompt. No storm here, btw.

Took Havoc to sport this morning, made pancakes when we got home, folded and put away laundry, another load washed and hung up, steam-mopped floor and area rugs (extra was steam mopping the front door inside and out) then put a load of towels in to bleach. Just finishing an early dinner of left-over pizza that I made last night then I think I'll take the dc to the spray park at the playground.

I think I lived on pasta and sauce from a jar at university. Not mum's fault as she did teach me how to cook. I made cakes for my housemates in second year.

I felt very sophisticated when I moved on to chicken and rice with sauce from a jar 😁

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 15/06/2025 06:22

My uni food staple was instant noodles (WITH the flavour sachet if I was feeling fancy) and a raw beaten egg swirled through it. [shudder]. And beer. Alot of beer.

I did not cook until I met DH and wanted to impress him Grin . HRH Queen Delia Smith taught me how to cook.with her books.

I cannot bake. At all. It simply eludes me. I am a bit of a 'throw it in and see what happens' type of cook and that does not work with baking.

Lovely morning here. Glad you avoided the storms @Mumtobabyhavoc ! I am hoping to get into the garden a bit. And have to rescue a lovely fuzzy bumblebee that has come in through the window. I need to get some more potting mix and a neighbour yesterday gave me some of her well-established courgette plants which i will pot onto a bigger pot in the hope for even more courgettes. My plan of buyng a small plant every time I go to the shops and plonking it in random places is yielding some nice results. I have covered one formerly bare area with pale lavender coloured dianthus and they are starting to flower up nicely.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

WinterFrogs · 15/06/2025 07:54

I have pot-bound plants and a big bag of compost, and still haven't done it. @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia you inspire me so perhaps I'll get it done today.

I also lived off pot noodles when I first left home. And Harvest Crunch. Then I mastered 'things made with minced beef'. My mum gave me her old Delia Smith books. They were helpful, but it was Peckish But Poor that really got me going. I don't bake either. I thank the internet for my more recent confidence in cooking, but I still only cook very simple things. And soup. Lots of soup!

House is in the part way stage of moving rooms. So there are things in odd places. I have some windows to clean too. And I must plan my week so that I'm efficient with work and still have time for household stuff. Last week was a bit of a fail in that area.

I once had a teacher ( Latin and Current Affairs for what it's worth) who would regularly start afresh with new initiatives, which tended to fall by the wayside within a term. I feel I have a good understanding of her now I'm about the same age as she was then. May she rest in peace ❤️ (she once gave me 9% in an exam for spelling my name right!)

I hope you all have a lovely Sunday 😍

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 15/06/2025 08:03

I miss the laugh emoji because your test score made me laugh out loud!

I also have a habit of activities falling by the wayside. I need to reactivate an old 'clean and declutter one room 5 minutes a day until it's finished' that i think I did way back on the first threads. That's another hope for this week.

WinterFrogs · 15/06/2025 13:20

It doesn't sound a bit like I did her in doesn't it? The rest in peace and the 9% aren't connected I promise! 😅

Morning all!

Grin @WinterFrogs !

Yesterday I did do a bit of repotting and cleaned up a couple of other pots and ironed the uniforms for the week.

I'm out for most of the day today with a combination of working, errands and DC pickup. In the middle I think I have time to have a coffee and cake at a little place by the sea. It's my main goal for today tbh!

I am trying out a new mantra for the house; 'Don't put it down, put it away' and I think there are microlevels of difference to the state of random clutter. I'm also trying to put each room straight before I leave it. This mainly involves the sitting room and cushions and throws and random teacups.

Wishing everyone a lovely day. Smile

WinterFrogs · 16/06/2025 07:11

Here we go again - another Monday!
It's funny how some of us have to try so hard to get things done, isn't?
Flylady talks about the 'born organised' (my mum) and 'sidetracked home executives' (me) So things like don't put it down, put it away are very useful reminders for the likes of some of us! Thanks @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ! And i hope you get your coffee and cake by the seaside!

How are we all? It's gone a bit quiet. Hope everyone is ok and just out enjoying the sunshine! But I expect you're all up to your elbows in Life and children/elderly relatives so sending my best wishes to you all ☕️ 🍰

Ed for stray asterisks which sprung up out of nowhere!

Morning - I am shattered and it's only the beginning of the week. A big old long hike yesterday - thankfully no rain or storm - and refpilates this morning and I could do with a little nap but with a busy work day ahead. maybe another coffee would perk me up and it's before my 'no caffeine after 11am' rule. (I know how to live, the rule is actually 10 but, needs...)

Today

  • order some new laces for my hiking boots
  • blitz my bedroom as the floor is now a 'drobe and there is 'stuff'
  • post office to post sibling birthday present
  • floors need doing again
  • I've fixed the kick back under the dishwasher by booting it into place - very satisfying and wiped butter from kitchen door front (I have been very messy today)
  • go on the hunt for missing pilates socks 😃I have lots of single socks.
  • building myself up to go back on rated people to find a workie.
Right coffee is going down very well, must get onto prepping next meeting, have a good one, SoE

Morning all. Another Monday as you say @WinterFrogs.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I’m still chief cook and bottle washer and gardener. I finished the power washing of the patio on Saturday. So that’s a big tick. Still some work to be done to finish tidying etc but can be done in little bits. I have some plants to plant. But the soil in the raised beds along the patio has become like concrete. So new plants are not doing well. I think I will have to rescue them and put them in pots and try to improve the soil gradually.

Monday mornings are when I tackle the kitchen so I’ve just cleaned the cooker top, the extractor fan filter and the inside of the grill door and the tray. Just having a coffee and will clean the floor under the cooker and then maybe the lights above the island unit.

Need to go out with DS to a supermarket to help him film something for work this afternoon so probably won’t achieve much more today.

Have a good day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/06/2025 15:15

Good morning everyone 😊
Not enough sleep for me last night. I could've slept another hour, but woke up at 6:30am. 🤷‍♀️
Lots of unexpected laundry late yesterday as I put Havoc down to nap without a diaper and....🤦‍♀️ so washed a throw, duvet & cover, sheets and mattress protector. The child was well hydrated. 😂
Usual laundry, vacuuming, steam mopping, purged the fridge, wand vacuuming couches and daily tidying have occurred yhe past few days. I was proactive about vacuuming the couches when Havoc pulled the cushions off to play: I saw crumbs and swooped in with the vacuum. 😁😂
Last day of school today and it's a mix of relief and sadness. I'll be glad for one less thing to be on schedule for, but it means Havoc has only one more year til kindergarten. 😭 How will I cope not seeing my sweet baby all day? 😢

Aria999 · 16/06/2025 17:23

My goal for today is to take all the empty boxes out of the hall and down to the recycling. The house is a mess! DH is away and the effects of me not having done much for 3 weeks post op are really piling up.

Do you plan to go back to work when both the kids are at school @Mumtobabyhavoc or will you stay home? I love my kids very much and quite like spending quality time with them in manageable bursts, but having some peaceful time to myself during the day is also very attractive!

petalpower · 16/06/2025 23:00

I’m still here @WinterFrogs - life has been a bit mad with one thing and another. Back visiting the oldies again tomorrow for a few days - not sure whether I should call them that as on another thread I read people thought it rather disrespectful to use the term. For me it’s just a shorthand way of saying elderly dad, stepmother, mother in law and father in law. Both my adult children have also needed support with various practical and emotional things. Today has been an admin and house reset sort of day, nothing remarkable but just stuff that needs doing - bins, laundry, emails, dog walking, garden watering. The glamour!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/06/2025 02:51

Aria, I'm not sure. I have mixed feelings about that, too. My ability to tolerate corporate bs has decreased significantly...
