Hello again! @mumofoneAlonebutokay I love the idea of a Christmas movie filled Saturday afternoon. Also love your baking! Soup is my baking. DH has come over all hairy bikers and got into cooking lately. He never had much confidence but I am always so thrilled by what he cooks that's he's embraced it. I'd say he's better at it than me now, and he certainly does it with some relish.

Happy birthday to @petalpower's dad 🎂

It hasn't rained here yet either.

Are you dressing up to watch it on TV @Mumtobabyhavoc? ( I just googled!) Hope you have nice day with the havocs.

I am struggling to keep awake. I had to stop for a quick shower so I make it to bedtime without a nap. Treating myself a bit like littlest's parents treat her. Early tea ( not even hungry!) will watch something on TV with DH and then a very early night I think. It was a very fresh air kind of morning here. Who was it needing a reboot last week? I think that's what I need. Tomorrow's another day.

Thank you @WinterFrogs . It’s his first birthday since moving into the nursing home and not being with my stepmother so rather bittersweet. My brother has been to see him to take cards and presents as well as a cake and birthday cocktail. He’s 3 hours from us so I couldn’t see him in person today but will be visiting the week after next.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 07/06/2025 21:25

@Mumtobabyhavoc thank you ☺️ - have a lovely time watching the horseracing - i think that there was a UK based one on today as well x

@WinterFrogs thank you ☺️ - I love soup too, and the best soup is when its made by someone else!

Hope you have a lovely rest - tomorrow is a new day x

Happy birthday to your dad @petalpower - I'm sure he's feeling loved, with the gifts and planned visits, the distance can't be helped x

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia first day over, with only a little rain! x

WinterFrogs · 08/06/2025 07:50

Morning all! I made it to bedtime without a nap, and I can think straight again.
@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia did you get any sleep? We had heavy rain here but not as blowy as expected. I hope DC is fine! Do they have an adult with them? Not sure how old the group is.
My sons in law went off camping together last night too. DDs left them to it, and relished the peace and quiet apparently!

You've had so much to do both physically and emotionally this last couple of years @petalpower I do hope you enjoyed putting your feet up ❤️

What are we all up to today?

@mumofoneAlonebutokay DH reminded me it was the Epsom Derby in England yesterday. How was your cosy afternoon with little miss?
My new DGN is growing fast! His big sister adores him and hasn't asked even once to send him back to the hospital where he came from! Which reminds me - I promised to make great granny a new updated photobox photo album. I must do it today. She loves showing her photos to her the care home staff and her new friends there, but has lost the ability to find them on her phone.

Are you continuing to recover well @Aria999

Best wishes to you all!

I’m hoping the rain has now passed through so I can get on top of the washing - the basket mysteriously filled itself whilst I wasn’t looking! DS goes away to a work conference overseas at the end of the week and needs clothes to be ready for that. (I know he could do it himself but I like looking after the family.) I’ve also been working my way through a massive box of family history paperwork from my dad’s. He got into researching it after my mum passed away but printed everything out - lots of duplicates and some that were blind alleys I think. I’ve said I’ll go through it all, condense it and make a clear family tree. It’s a bit of a task but I’m gradually picking my way through it. I might do a bit more of that today as my extra task.
When does the intrepid adventurer return @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ?
I had a very relaxed evening thank you @WinterFrogs . A treat to have dinner cooked by someone else and then DS and I watched the last couple of episodes of Clarkson’s Farm.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 08/06/2025 13:16

Good afternoon!

No phone calls overnight to discuss fatal hypothermia so I am hopeful Master Ds1 is home soon. (Due about 8 pm).

The weather is much nicer today, so when I know he is on the coach I am going to turn my attention to @mumofoneAlonebutokay 's NYC apartment. Grin
I did wake often @WinterFrogs . They have adults supervising, but not on the hikes. DH and I agreed that if he comes back with anything approaching cheerfulness we will be most encouraged.

@petalpower I hope your DDad had a lovely birthday. Thanks

I also must do a photo album @WinterFrogs as well for my older family members. ❤

Love to all.

Aria999 · 08/06/2025 14:24

I'm getting there thanks @WinterFrogs! Still quite limited energy and I am not supposed to lift heavy things but I think I might manage to catch up on some life admin and get back to my training course next week.

Hope DS is doing ok @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia! My stepdad used to be in charge of D of E at his school and the teachers quite often had to go and find lost kids but never failed to do so.

hello @everyoneelse! Love the bread!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/06/2025 16:04

Lobelia, when is ds expected to be done and home? I'm sure you'll be hearing all about his adventure soon. 😊
Aria, don't push yourself. 😊

Sorry, just quickly popping in. Very tired after yesterday and only 6 hours sleep as wide awake at 5am and unable to get back to sleep. 🙄 Folded and put laundry away then put a very large load on to wash and have now hung that up. DC are awake, of course, so getting them sorted and will get coffee going and breakfast.
I pvr'd the horse race and Good Night, Good Luck w George Clooney, which is getting excellent reviews. CNN televised it last night. Day was long, and hot. I ended up taking DC to Hats Off Day in Burnaby after a morning with Havoc at sport. It was 2 hours walking in the heat, but good, and by the time we got home, baths, dinner, the Costco shop I squeezed in, the day and evening were gone. Plan is pancakes and watch the race.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 08/06/2025 16:40

😄🙌 yes please @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia !! - glad to hear it's going okay for DS, I imagine he's on the coach now? xx

@WinterFrogs it went okay thanks, we got some of the way through Notting Hill before giving up and watching Desperate Housewives! But... guess who finally finished Harry Potter 5! Catch 22 for me now, I found the book the other day.

And I've decided to accept the Summer, now that it's here and stop pining for Christmas. 😒

My estranged step dad had a huge collection of books to seem 'bookish' but barely read any of them. I've got a few of his - I need to throw them away as I think they're bringing his bad energy to my home.

So tasks for next week are:
Clear out the bad vibes books
Clean the flat
Deep clean the carpet
Read so that I can actually be bookish
Buy more icing for DD's cupcake obsession

I've also had a Sunday Rebrand and have decided to reach my full potential as a sexy, well read, thin woman, I need to take a social media and bread break (once I finish my loaf, obvs). I'll be back on Love Island Monday 🫢

My Love to you all on my favourite thread 🩷🩷

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/06/2025 17:42

Plans fading...
have had 2 lattes and three delicious, fluffy pancakes with gorgeous local strawberries and maple syrup.
Just watching the Good Night and Good Luck pre-show that I also pvr'd yesterday. Apparently the show was also broadcast online (CNN) yesterday, so if anyone is interested you might find it. I'm sure I saw the George Clooney movie version a very long time ago, too.
Updates to follow. 😂

SpiritOfEdna · 08/06/2025 17:46

Happy Sunday - I had my first 4.5 mile hike prep for CdeS - it was supposed to be sunny - it bucketed it down, the dog was in and out the river and my (paper) map got very very soggy too 🤣. I then downloaded an app which had a similar hike which bizarrely took us out of the country park to walk alongside an A road and through a housing estate!!!! Never so glad to get back to the starting point 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Very tired now and, unbelievably, the dog is whining to go back out !!!!! I am not moving 🤣

SpiritOfEdna · 08/06/2025 18:17

SpiritDoggo has won!!! Out we go xx

RunningKatie · 08/06/2025 19:14

Happy Sunday eve all! All the talk of DoE, almond croissants and horse racing has taken a while to read!

I'm not an almond croissant fan but love a cinnamon swirl and/or a pain au chocolat. Ideally both.

Hope the New Forest has been kind to your DS and they are all safely home soon @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia

Oh, there was talk of underwear too. I've lost weight and can fit into my nice underwear rather than it sitting in a drawer. So all the old stuff has been binned and I am in full-on fancy pants mode. I've reassured DH that I've not got another man on the go, just decided to not save stuff for best.

In other news, the shower is slightly and slowly leaking into the dining room. There has been a lot of huffing. Now everyone seems to think they can use the en-suite shower, at least I get up before they all do so there won't be a queue.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2025 00:57

Update: still haven't watched the race. Took dc to Italian Day and a bit of a walk along a cool tree lined street after to look at a fire house and some lovely gardens with flowers and some gorgeous roses.
We're having hot dogs, corn on the cob, quinoa salad and watermelon for dinner. Then, we'll watch the race while we have dessert. I've got a tuxedo cake waiting. 😁

Aria999 · 09/06/2025 04:53

Yikes @RunningKatie don't get mold in the ceiling! Been there and it's not pretty....

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 09/06/2025 05:49

Morning all. The intrepid adventurer is home. They got delayed on the trip back and did not get to the school until gone 9 pm. Then another lengthy time sorting kit out. Late night for us. But thankfully the school has allowed them to come in late today. Everyone was looking cold and fed up but they got through it. Kudos to teachers like your step-dad @Aria999 who escort often reluctant students through such a challenging event!

Well done on your training hike @SpiritOfEdna ! The Camino on my bucket list but I doubt with my arthritis and back I could make it so will live vicariously!

Hope everyone is well. Love the idea of Italian Day!

Hope your shower can be fixed @RunningKatie !

Love to all- must dash as running DH to the train as he is in London today. Thanks again to all for holding my hand through the weekend! Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2025 06:46

Great news Lobelia. Hope you managed a decent sleep. Take it easy today. 🩷

Just watching the Good Night and Good Luck play. It's good, but i'm so tired and really should be asleep like the dc are. 🤦‍♀️.

WinterFrogs · 09/06/2025 07:31

Hello! Delighted that dc is home safely @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia Now you can exhale!
Your comment about the underwear made me grin @RunningKatie 😁 Have you got someone to sort the leaky shower? We had similar with a leak behind the loo, and only noticed when we got dripping into the kitchen. We had to have part of the ceiling repaired (visions of someone sitting on the loo coming straight down into the kitchen focused our thoughts a bit!)
That walk sounds quite epic @SpiritOfEdna! Is signposting on the Camino trail good? Your country park sounds similar to one i got lost in a couple of years ago. I was not aware that it is Y shaped and also ended up on an A road ( then an industrial estate) before being able to find my car) My map app wasn't very helpful at that time!
How are your legs this morning?
Don't overdo it now @Aria999 #wags finger...
You know how to live @Mumtobabyhavoc! Your posts make me hungry!
We're delighted round here because The Rookie has a new series out. So there was a bit of binge watching in this household yesterday.
@mumofoneAlonebutokay I read the HP books when they first came out, and remember not being able to put them down. That was before SM and scrolling killed my concentration levels. I am working hard on building them back up ( and I don't even have FB or IG) << I learned very quickly that they are bad for my MH. I have to look at DH's fb to see what mum is up to in the care home.

@petalpower such a treat to get dinner cooked, isn't it? I always enjoy Clarkson's farming programme. For someone who can be so blunt, he's proper soppy about his animals isn't he?

A wash is on here (bed is stripped) I have done my bathroom swish and swipe. I did not do my photo album yesterday 😐 Also there is a mass off dust on the tv stand, and I should probably pull the fridge out and clean under/behind it.

Good luck with your funky smelling fridge @Peridot1 I did not know that you can change the filter. Must investigate.

Otherwise we are in general fairly tidy and more or less clean here. I wouldn't invite royalty to tea, but friends and family wouldn't be alarmed at the place I don't think. Maybe a run round with the vacuum cleaner first 🤔

Wishing you all an excellent day!

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 09/06/2025 09:12

What a busy weekend people have had.

Glad your DS got back safely @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia.

Fridge less smelly now @WinterFrogs. I didn’t know about the filter. And still don’t! Leaving that to DH. So far a clear out of open packets of prosciutto left by DS, a clean and a bowl of bicarb seems to be helping.

Glad you are in the mend @Aria999.

@RunningKatie - I now fit into smaller underwear too which is good. Need to do a clear out though as accidentally wore some of the bigger sized knickers and they kept falling down! Thankfully I had trousers on but it was still not great!

Plans today here:

  • dishwasher/general kitchen clean
  • gym
  • wash DS’s bedding - currently in machine and on
  • a bit more of the 1% of my room project
  • vacuum and wash utility and kitchen floors
  • find my garden ‘snippers’ and deadhead roses
  • meal plan for the week - might do a freezer inventory first

We are going to the pub for dinner tonight as DH has a meeting there at 5. I need to drive him over as his knee is not yet right.

Have a good day all.

Peridot1 · 09/06/2025 09:18

Snippers found while waiting for my toast to cook!

SpiritOfEdna · 09/06/2025 16:16

hello - hot spot on hip (from yesterday's shenanigans) sorted out by an early morning refpilates class + a parking ticket booooo! Need to investigate some more places to walk, preferably without swans and lakes as well as walking along an A road. It was just tutu (groan) hard. At one point the dog had run on ahead - she'd spotted the lake and wanted to drop her ball in it, which she did, and we heard a massive kerfuffle of the dog barking/squealing and crying and thought she'd been jumped on by another dog - nope she was attacked by swans and run off tail between her legs. We did feel like terrible dog owners at that point - luckily no feathers or blood spilt and no-one to witness 😃
Today

  • another sodding interview this afternoon. Friday's was a car crash despite spoon feeding answers to the candidate.
  • Water plants
  • Ironing
  • Floors are looking grubby again
  • Pay parking fine (resentfully and regretfully)
  • I used expanding foam to fill in some gaps in door frames - I got rid of the excess and now I need to tidy them up and get nice neat edges to paint over
Waves to all, will go back and have a read, lol was wondering who had annoyed peridot that she needed a sniper 😄, SoE
WinterFrogs · 10/06/2025 07:14

Resentfully and regretfully is the only way to deal with parking fines ime @SpiritOfEdna 😔 Last time i got one, it was because I'd been in and out of a car park, and back again, trying to find a space (unsuccessfully) The letter i was sent showed only two pictures they'd taken - the first entry and the second exit. I grudgingly paid up because it was going to be hard to prove, and immediate payment had a big 'discount'. They rely on that, the 🤬

I am glad to hear that SpiritDoggo was none the worse for her altercation with the swans 💕

I read it as snipers too @Peridot1 so Ednas's comment made me laugh!
Also the falling down knickers...what a great problem to have though!

My current ruse to stay awake reading my Christy Lefteri book is to have my ear pods in and listen along as I read it on the kindle. It's too beautifully written and poetic to speed read.

What was DC's verdict on the weekend @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia?

I'm going to get up now, and I plan to get a bag and search for things that can be binned or recycled I think. Just a quick spin round the house. Then put together the work I must do today, and then a walk before I start.

I hope everyone has a good day. Hope your snazzy underwear gives you a nice mood lift @RunningKatie 😊

Peridot1 · 10/06/2025 11:10

Sometimes I definitely wish for snipers! But make do with snippers. They were utilised and I deadheaded all the roses yesterday. They are lovely but leave a mess of rose petals on the patio.

How annoying to get a parking ticket @SpiritOfEdna. I’ve only ever had one which I successfully appealed. DH was most surprised.

Back from the dentist. Last invasive procedure (fingers crossed) so stopped off at supermarket to stock up on soups and yoghurts and ice cream. Another week of soft foods. And nothing hot or spicy.

Not sure I will achieve much today. I’m out all afternoon as I’m starting a six week pottery course. Never tried it before and not convinced I’ll be much good but am giving it a go.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 10/06/2025 11:20

I could d with a sniper or two as well on occasion!

Hope your dental procedure goes well @Peridot1 you really have been through it!

Ugh bad news on the parking ticket @SpiritOfEdna !

DS did not enjoy the weekend much @WinterFrogs . I doubt he will go further with the DofE! Also we unpacked the rucksack yesterday and he appears to not have eaten a single thing. Everything we packed came back in unopened packaging. He just said he 'wasn't hungry'. He has alot of sensory issues around food so I was worried but I thought I had packed stuff he would tolerate. But everything was unopened.

Hope everyone is fine and well. Thanks

petalpower · 10/06/2025 19:47

Will your DS have done enough on the expedition to get his bronze D of E @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ? It absolutely wouldn’t have my been my DS’s thing and DD just did her bronze then stopped.
I had a very projecteering type afternoon - I cleaned the filter and detergent dispenser on the washing machine then the pipe which yielded some rather disgusting sludge and finally ran a cleaner cycle.
