Hi all.

@Aria999 - glad you are on the mend.

Hi to everyone else - lots of interesting things happening and being done.

I have been chief cook and bottle washer as DH is still out of action as he hurt his knee. Again. So I’m doing my normal tasks plus cooking which DH normally does. And I’m still on liquid/soft foods so sometimes cooking something nice for DH and DS and heating up soup for me. I’m also doing some gardening. Although I have booked someone to come and cut back areas that are out of control.

We didn’t really do no mow May but it’s ended up that way. DH is obsessed with cutting the grass so won’t do no mow May but we do have lots of areas that he does do and a wilderness section the other side of the drive so we do our bit for the wildlife. And we do seem to have lots of bees.

Thanks for the Aldi tip re plants @WinterFrogs - I might take a trip. The garden centre is so expensive. I need a few more plants for pots on the patio.

@SpiritOfEdna - hope you are feeling better - apparently Covid is doing the rounds at the moment - your comment about not being able to taste or smell made me think you might not just have a cold.

Impressed with those of you who do Sudoku. I like word puzzles but struggle with number ones. I must try sudoku. Maybe a children’s one!

Have a lovely Sunday all.

WinterFrogs · 01/06/2025 10:58

Oh @Peridot1 insult to injury, cooking for the others and not being able to have any! How are you healing? Poor old DH and his knee.
Problem with no mow may is that bugs and bees are loving every second of our dandelion filled lawn, and it feels wicked to mow now. But mow we must! We too have wild areas ( rather too much!) I have a bit of a tweaked back so no cutting things down for me this weekend,

but i will do a bit of pot planting I think. We have lavender, marigolds and strawberries at the moment. I'm so big on baby steps that i manage one new thing a year.
Overwhelm is real in this household! ND diagnosed offspring fortunately gets hyper focused every now and again, and sometimes we utilise her short term brilliance to get a few things done ( I pay her, as she's only able to have part time jobs due to disability)
Hyper focus has never been something that i am familiar with, unless you count MN!

Sudoku is one of the first things that I began as part of an attempt to slow my scattered brain. I started with very easy ones. My mother could do the cryptic crosswords but has never ever got the hang of sudoku.

Good we can all agree on wordle though!

So sorry @Peridot1 you are cooking but not eating! I hope everyone is soon on the mend.

I missed somehow you were ill as well, @SpiritOfEdna hope so much are better soon.

i laughed out loud @WinterFrogs on your annual baby step. Smile

I have had some minor successes this morning. Cleaned out and bleached the wheelie bins which were VERY smelly. Planted a really pretty little dianthus. Cleared out the fridge. I was reminded of my New Year resolution to 'not waste time' and I have been hit or miss with it.

I am just taking a quick break then back to it. This afternoon there is a fete in a Stately Home and we may go if we can be bothered or we don't forget (to quote Lord Farquaad from Shrek).

Hope everyone is having a nice day. x

Aria999 · 01/06/2025 12:28

Yay wordle! In 3 today. I have a new opening combo of "Slate" followed by "irony" which often works well.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 01/06/2025 12:40

Wordle in 6 . My starter word today was Price.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/06/2025 18:47

Just a very quick pop in:
I definitely recommend lavender for planting in pots or gardens. Great for bees, gorgeous all round.
Sorry to hear mouth still sore, any interesting soups?
Camping near the horses got me imagining waking up in a tent in the middle of a vast plain with wild horses. That would be lovely. Or zebras.

Stopped in at dollar store last night and bought a few garden items spontaneously (1.75 each): tall skinny metal stake with hook top to hang something. Going to hang another hummingbird feeder; garden plaque; mini gnome; new hummingbird feeder.

No rain today so will get new items into garden then get dc out. Managed to vacuum last night after dinner. 🤗

WinterFrogs · 02/06/2025 07:02

I'm not even kidding about the annual baby step @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia 😅I do think the aldi tip is a good one and I'd like to up my game. I need to bring back the gardener to help really. He made a big difference last year, so it's not as bad this year.
That's a crafty tip about wordle @Aria999! It was my turn to choose yesterday and I idiotically chose TWIST, but got it in 5. 4 today starting with SCORE (Dh choice)

@Mumtobabyhavoc we are not a million miles away from the new forest where there really are wild ponies on the campsites ( and on the roads - you really do have to drive with caution)

Your Lord Farquaard quote amused me @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia Did you remember and could you be bothered to go to the fete?
I am pleased and proud to announce that I did prepare today's work/workspace yesterday, and I did an epic evening routine so when I get out of bed in ten mins, I'm ready to shower, dress, breakfast, hang laundry, breathe in the garden and then get to it.
Also have a routine vet appointment today so must make sure WinterCat is in at lunchtime.

I hope none of you have too much of a 'Monday' 💐

Just read about the New Forest and it's ponies. Sounds and looks so lovely. 😍

WinterFrogs · 02/06/2025 07:19

My terribly sensitive image that's not yet made it through review is of New Forest ponies dozing outside a tent!

@Mumtobabyhavoc do you have humming birds where you live? Your new ornaments do sound pretty! I would really love to embrace gardening a bit more and have it really pretty. It does hum with wildlife though.

It really is! I have been there a few times and the ponies are everywhere! Also a few donkeys, and we walked through some forest where there were signs about being cautious as they are reintroducing wolves!
I must get up! That was a long ten minutes 😆

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 02/06/2025 07:31

Wolves in the New Forest! How enchanting!

DS1's Duke of Ed expedition is in the New Forest. I am very very envious.

I did go to the fete! It was lovely and I bumped into two friends and had a glass of wine and a chat with them.

Wordle in 4 today. Starter word today was party.

I have a pretty brutal admin day today. Mainly around things I have been ignoring and putting off. Blush But I am also moving some pots from our tiny Juliette balcony down onto the patio because they are making the balcony look cluttered and messy.

hope everyone has a great day!

Peridot1 · 02/06/2025 11:19

Morning all.

I got Wordle in two today! Nice start to the week.

I have been to the gym. Emptied the dishwasher and reloaded it and switched it on again. Washed a cardigan of mine.

Am about to give the kitchen a good clean. Also need to vacuum as our neighbours were over last night with their very hairy dog.

Gardener is here strimming away out the front. I positioned new plants in the beds by the patio yesterday so I might plant them this afternoon.

I emailed about my hour’s ironing prize last week but haven’t heard anything back. Hopefully she gets back to me soon.

Your new garden things sound nice @Mumtobabyhavoc.

Happy Monday everyone.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 02/06/2025 12:01

Hello again!

Wordle in 2! I have only managed that once and it was by accident.

I have washed a load. Ironed a load. Put another load on. I have moved 6 pots from balcony to patio and watered them. I have dumped a charity shop bag. I have swept the ktichen floor and put peppers into the oven to roast as DH is having stuffed peppers for dinner. I have matched under garments to clean school shirts so I don't need to have the daily scrabble in cupboards. I have put up another garden mirror behind a passionflower plant so it just peeps out with hopefully a 'Secret Garden' vibe. I have planted another dianthus. I have refreshed the various water bowls we have dotted around the place that are used by birds, badgers and foxes (and our two cats when they deign to enter the great outdoors).

Pretty much all of this was done in an attempt to avoid admin tasks.

I have scheduled admin tasks for 3 pm-4 pm......

No Matter What.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 02/06/2025 12:03

(P.S.- we have the nicest thread on MN I believe. Lurkers very welcome to join us. Smile )

SpiritOfEdna · 02/06/2025 12:25

Morning - I am loads better thank yoooouuu all and I can TASTE things. Back at morning pilates before work so all good. New Forest is on my list of places I'd like to visit.

Today, not a meeting heavy day so I can:

  • recycle the coffee pods
  • do some heavy duty paperwork shredding on the lunchtime meetings I only have to listen to and not participate in.
  • finance admin - I had to replace a tyre on my car yesterday - boo
  • get SpiritDoggo out for a long walk - finally we can go a bit farther afield now tyre sorted
  • neaten up the doorframes where I had to use expanding foam where the joiner left gaps...
  • investigate what paint we have in the shed as I need some white gloss
That's all for today, I have managed to both jam and overheat the shredder with my impatience to cram in too many sheets, have a good one, SoE
petalpower · 02/06/2025 15:45

That’s good that you’re feeling so much better @SpiritOfEdna. Not being able to taste or smell is just dreadful.
Very productive day so far:

  • changed the bed and towels
  • three loads of washing
  • carpenter has been, some jobs done and other bits of furniture taken away to fix - some of these jobs have literally been waiting years to be done!
  • dentist visit for me
  • registered DS at another dentist (as ours no longer has NHS care) and booked him an appointment
  • picked up butter and prescription on the way home
  • online life admin
  • both dogs given flea and worm medication
Wolves in the New Forest sound mildly terrifying!

🤭 thank you, dd's happy, shes having a lovely day, and she got a new ball (although it was briefly confiscated due to her overexcitement about it)

My love to the havocs 💕💕

Love a 'bad' day. They are the days memories are made of!

I suggested strongly encouraged forced DH to have a bad afternoon at the pub. Sadly it was timed for Life Admin at 3 pm No Matter What but [shrug] what can you do?
