Oh my goodness @Aria999 - hope you’re not in too much pain and the surgery goes smoothly.

Peridot1 · 23/05/2025 15:56

Oh that’s not good @Aria999! Hope pain is not too bad and surgery goes well. And recovery is good.

SpiritOfEdna · 23/05/2025 16:04

Morning @mumofoneAlonebutokay I will be avoiding all things to do with Radio 1's big weekend - it's removed 2 of SpiritDoggo's second walks of the day (bah humbug). Hopefully it means all other places will be empty as everyone will be in the park. @Mumtobabyhavoc that sounds like something I would do, but it's usually to rescue the dog while she swims off to safety.

@Aria999 OMG. Fingers crossed for a speedy surgery.

Interviews not going well - second one - who we did want to interview - was just not very good. I just want a decent business analyst.

Today

  • busy work morning and then nothing after 1:30 so might take a late lunch and get to the gym - DONE
  • I need a haircut but the price of my normal place has leapt up so might shop around for another place. I really do need a hair cut.
  • pay day! Hurrah, bills and admin first
  • need to do a food shop - DONE
  • I'm in a 'moving around the house and putting stuff back in it's rightful place'; next thing is to put the ironing board and iron away because I am DONE
  • I've got some reading to do later
As usual, started this morning and got sidetracked 😄, have a good one, SoE.
SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 23/05/2025 16:10

Oh @Aria999 Thanks and ❤

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 23/05/2025 16:25

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/05/2025 22:33

MumofOne, Havoc is very jealous of baby and has regressed a lot: baby talk, tantrums, refusing toilet. Also, very mean to baby. So, the struggle is real here. There are some positives and it is getting better, but the last year has been very difficult. Which was why I was so pissed off that the boot got thrown over. I'm pretty much worn down by the constant refereeing and intervening. I'm so glad I had our rain gear and I was wearing tall rubber boots. I had visions of sinking as there was no way to tell if it was just water, water/mud, or how deep, below as it is marsh. So, pulled on the rain pants and over I went and I was lucky. I was not going to leave it, a brand new pair of boots, without trying ... lots of swearing and shouting, though, I'll admit. Lucky I'm still strong enough to hoist myself back up (like onto a pool deck from the water).

Welcome to my world. ... 🙄😵‍💫😂🤦‍♀️

Good for you on the grocery shopping! That's a win! 🤗
At least you checked out the school and saw for yourself. Will your daughter be supported or need one on one attention?

I cleaned the bathroom and washed the floor before bed last night around 11:30pm. I was glad I did it. Only took about 15 mins.

Havoc is napping after I forced the lie down. Yesterday's walk, playground after dinner and not enough sleep were obvious.

I'm sorry, for some reason it didn't register that you went into water 😳 - I thought you jumped onto a lower boardwalk 😅

You brave thing. I can completely understand tbh, he's going through a tough phase but hopefully it won't last. DD has challenged me in ways I never imagined possible pre motherhood. Does he start nursery in September, like uk kids?

DD will need lots of one to one attention. Currently she's in a ratio of 3 kids to one teacher I think, in a tiny class, which is working quite well

Omg @Aria999 wishing you better 😳xx

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 23/05/2025 16:48

Thank you @WinterFrogs - hopefully before September but we'll see!

@SpiritOfEdna 😄 sorry to hear it, I can imagine the impact its had on your walks - I'm told that I'm not too far from a football stadium (no idea which one 🤷‍♀️) and to expect disruption on match days - so far so good

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2025 17:47

@Aria999 Jeezus! You must've had an awful night with a trip to emergency if you are now in surgery. I hope you are now done and in recovery. Sending you best witshes. 🩷💐

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/05/2025 18:19

Mumofone: yes, water was -luckily- not deep. and with semi firm ground I carefully jumped up and hoisted myself back onto the boardwalk.
I really hope a similar teacher:student situation can be found. 🤞
Here, kids can go to school for Kindergarten the year they turn 5.

So, yes, I was swearing and it was a rage jump: "JFC Havoc why did you do that?!"
But, after the boot was rescued and we walked for a while longer I initiated a chat about not taking baby's things and throwing them away; that it was very difficult for mummy to get the boot and mummy was scared; and that we just can't buy new things all the time to replace the ones we throw away. 🤞

I was awake at 7, about 45 mins before dc, so I got washed up, made coffee and pancakes and emptied the dishwasher. I'm lazy and scrolling now, so I better get moving. I want to get dc out. They're getting a bit crazy right now and it's pretty obv I'm not going to get any peace. 😵‍💫😂

RunningKatie · 23/05/2025 21:07

DFIL passed peacefully in the early hours of yesterday, DD is bereft, DH is being incredibly stoical. I'm just everyone propping up, keeping the wheels on the bus turning etc. We're doing ok, glad and grateful for a long weekend and half term.

I'm ordering summer hats for the festival season, and I need to get ear defenders for dc2. He's a pre-teen so baby sized ones are no good, I need to do some proper research.

Hope you're ok @Aria999 and surgery is quick and smooth.
@Mumtobabyhavoc - we had jealousy of baby dc2 here, I remember the health visitor arriving right after dc1 had scraped their lovely toddler nails up both sides of his little baby face. I was in tears. We very rapidly were sorted out with a HomeStart volunteer, she absolutely saved my sanity and I'm forever thankful for her giving up an afternoon a week to hang out with us.
Obviously they adore each other these days and it's so special, when we go on a family dog walk they are ahead of us rabbiting away at each other. DH tells me it'll not last but I hope they have each others backs for years to come.

Aria999 · 23/05/2025 21:25

Thanks for the kind wishes everyone! They managed to bump me up the schedule to this morning so am now appendix free and sitting in the car waiting for DH to get my pain meds on the way home.

yes it was a rough night, finally decided to go to urgent care around 5pm yesterday after a day of feeling bad, then they sent me to the ER, eventually got a CAT scan around 11pm and the results of it around 1am.

will try and catch up on the thread soon, I am a bit lacking in focus for some reason at present!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/05/2025 03:47

Katie, so sorry to hear the bad news about your FiL. One foot in front of the other is all you can do. Sending strength your way. 💐🩷
Thanks for the encouragement re dc. I appreciate that that. 💕

Aria!!!! So glad to know all is well. 😊
My mum had her gallbladder out and she said she could feel something gone. 😳

I spent three hours with dc at the Aquarium/Stanley Park today. There is a nice new play area inside and I promised Havoc we could go this time. I. Hate. The Play area. 😵‍💫. Too many kids and me trying to watch mine go in opposite directions kills me. It was a busy day there, though. There were at least 6 school buses there. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Managed a Costco shop downtown after. I was pleasantly surprised: fairly easy for parking, less aggression inside; less stupid shoppers leaving carts all over 🙄and shorter check-out lines. I hadn't been to the downtown location in ages and I think I'll start doing more there. 🤔

Laundry pile is huge. Need to vacuum and wash floors.
Still have important things to do that I'm ignoring. 🫣

WinterFrogs · 24/05/2025 06:47

My condolences to you and your family @RunningKatie 💐
Relieved to hear that you are safely out of surgery @Aria999 Rest well!

Three hours at a play park @Mumtobabyhavoc 😲 Seriously impressed! I downed tools after a couple of hours at one of those places recently. They seem to be so much bigger, brighter, busier and more chaotic than they used to be! That was with one small child and two other adults. It's much easier when they are a bit bigger and you can sit on a bench reading a book while they play.

My windowsills are all lovely now. I will clean out the fridge today, and make soup with whatever is in there.

I finished Rebecca. After all my fuss - loved it - and the narrator's voice. Now I'm listening to Christy Lefteri's A Watermelon, A Fish And A Bible. Love her books but chose this one because it's read by Art Malik 😍

Have a great day everyone!

@RunningKatie so sorry to hear about DFIL. 🌺

Peridot1 · 24/05/2025 14:10

Sympathies to you all @RunningKatie. It’s never easy even when expected.

Glad all went well with surgery @Aria999.

I read Rebecca years ago @WinterFrogs. I can’t get used to listening to books. I zone out and fall asleep! I did listen to one a few years ago while out walking and enjoyed it and more importantly didn’t fall asleep!

I don’t feel I am achieving much at the moment but have done a few little jobs. Polished some old silver. A beautiful old silver jug I bought when we lived in Vietnam which came from one of the big hotels and a silver ice bucket which was probably from the same hotel. They are very silver service and I love them but they were so cheap. I had let them get very tarnished. Also one little silver dish with tin foil, bicarb and boiling water which is magic!

I went up to London on Thursday for a skin check - all good thankfully. Managed a bit of shopping which was nice.

Today I have unblocked the plug hole in the sink in the downstairs cloakroom which was running slowly. Did some of DS’s washing as he did his jobs of bringing it down and putting last weeks away and bringing down all the rubbish, glasses etc which accumulated there during the week. Then I showed him how to cook scrambled eggs. And made DH a bacon sandwich as he is incapacitated with an injured knee. Again. About to change DS’s bed and then I need to make a dessert to take to the village duck race tomorrow. Oh I also put the dish drainer and sink tidy through the dishwasher this morning and soaked all dishwashing bits and pieces in disinfectant solution.

Then I’m going to sit and read my book!

Have a great day all.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 24/05/2025 14:40

That sounds good, @Mumtobabyhavoc, you handled it as well as poss tbh - sometimes we get pushed to the limit with these kids! You sound lovely though, i bet the kids are really enjoying their days out.

Home now after driving back to our old neighbourhood to pick up dd's replacement tablet that was delivered to the local post office. Then went to the shops for sweets for dd since it's half term. Also got some sheba for dcat and some candles - its her 2nd birthday tomorrow so we had a 'birthday sheba cake' and song today.

@RunningKatie i'm really sorry for your loss. Yes, im sure it helps having the bank holiday to come to terms with it all. Wishing you all the best x

@Aria999 glad you're on the mend, and it was sorted sooner rather than later - do take care x

@WinterFrogs you've inspired me to add Rebecca to the list - although can't say when it'll be read, given my current lazy era x

To do today:
Clean each room
Washing up
Put on and hang up two loads of laundry
Empty the bins
Vacuum
Mop

Id love it all to be done by 8pm so I can stick dd in bed and watch tv with the glass of wine I was meant to have last night - let's see how much i manage

Have a lovely one all ❤️

WinterFrogs · 24/05/2025 15:28

Hello again! @Peridot1 I took ages to finish Rebecca because I kept falling asleep! I didn't dare listen whilst driving! A duck race sounds fun. A very villagey thing to do! You have been very busy! Boo to DH's knee!
Excellent list @mumofoneAlonebutokay! I hope it's all done by wine o'clock!

I'm home alone 🥳 Very peaceful after busy week. They weeks are flying by! I woke at 5am today and it was fully light. Less than a month till summer solstice I think!

I'm looking around the house and there's all sorts of things I could be doing but I'm ignoring it as I have a cat on my lap. I ought to do something in the garden ( in my defence I did pull a few weeds very early this morning)

How are you feeling today @Aria999 ?

OP posts:
petalpower · 24/05/2025 15:49

Glad you’re headed home @Aria999 - hope you’re not too sore. I had dreadful pain in my shoulder after having my appendix out which I think I was told was the result of the air they pump in if it’s keyhole surgery?
Really sorry to hear that your FIL has passed away @RunningKatie . A blessing that it was peaceful. I’m sure it will be a comfort for your DH just being at home and having some quiet family time.
Having a bit of a fragmented day here. Was out last night with friends and DH at a fundraising event and had a few glasses of Prosecco so it was slower than usual start to the day and a later dog walk than normal! Don’t feel as though I’ve achieved much but maybe that’s what bank holiday weekends are for!
Hope everyone else is ok.

Aria999 · 24/05/2025 16:14

Thanks, not feeling too bad. Moving is hard, DH is going to get me an abdominal support band later as unfortunately I threw out my c section ones.

yes re the weird shoulder pain @petalpower ,it comes and goes. They hold me the same thing!

JingsMahBucket · 26/05/2025 07:28

Morning folks. Just checking back in after being away end of last week. I booked a cheap Premier Inn in another Scottish city for three nights and made myself a writing retreat to get some clearer headspace. I just returned home last night.

@RunningKatie so sorry to hear about you FIL and thankfully it was peaceful. Nudge your husband to talk about his feelings instead of being stoic. He may also just be running on adrenaline for the next few months to square everything away and then one day he’ll just break down. While you’re trying to prop everyone up, remember to take care of yourself. ❤️

@Aria999 good to hear you’re out of surgery and safe back home. Even better that your husband is on board with taking care of you!

For today, I’m going to continue my writing but will fit in a couple chores like taking out the trash, changing the bed sheets, paying NYC bills, etc.

Have a good day everyone!

WinterFrogs · 26/05/2025 09:40

🥂 @petalpower!

Pleased you're feeling ok @Aria999 I had that shoulder pain after a c-section. One of the other mums in the ward explained it to me ( bless her she also got out of bed and got my food tray for me as they didn't deliver to the maternity ward in that hospital, and she was a day or two ahead of me and more able to walk)

I love your writing retreat @JingsMahBucket! What a lovely idea. I hope you are feeling better for it! Have you read The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron? Highly recommend it.
I am having a slow start today, but I do have some work to do later on.

I will weed on flower bed today, and I'm going to clean all light switches. Back to basics for me!

Have a good bank holiday all!

Morning all.

Beautiful sunny morning here first thing so I’ve already done a load of laundry and hung it out to discover it’s due to rain this afternoon. Annoying. I have also watered the green house. Normally DH’s domain but he’s still out of action.

Had a plant delivery early this morning so I might actually try to get started on getting the beds prepped and positioning the plants before the rain.

Went to village duck race yesterday and I win a raffle prize of an hour’s ironing! Which is great timing as I have a pit of a pile. So will try and get that sorted out for this week.

Today’s other jobs:

  • towel wash - on
  • dishwasher and kitchen
  • vacuum
  • clear off dining table and clean/dust
  • clean downstairs cloakroom

Have a great day all.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 26/05/2025 11:52

Hi all,

I am so so sorry @RunningKatie

Hope you are feeling better @Aria999

Not much going in here. DS1 and DH went for a 4 mile walk to try out DS's Duke of Edinburgh backpack. He did really well.

DH is now out doing his Manly Hobby.

I am about to water the garden in the hope it triggers a rainstorm. Grin

we might go to the cinema later .... I am making spag bol.

I like @WinterFrogs back to basics of cleaning the light switches. I have paid the window cleaner who comes tomorrow. I have paid off a school trip for DS1 as well - his first ever one abroad with the school. Thankfully payday is this week because it's all on credit card so far!! I really need to iron a basket of washing but actually I washed it days ago so it might need to go through the washing machine again!

Hope everyone is having a good day. Thanks

WinterFrogs · 27/05/2025 10:34

Did either of you manage to make it rain where you are, @Peridot1 or @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ? I'd left washing on the line in sunny/breezy conditions when I went out. Got back and it had just started a bit of drizzle so it ended up in the tumble dryer for 20 mins.
Operation light switch went well. Repotted a couple of plants too.
Today I will hoover behind sofa and chairs in lounge. Stuff just gathers there, doesn't it? Especially with small children.

I have met new DN. Absolute cutie, and he and his mum are doing well. His big sister is thrilled, but probably hasn't yet comprehended that this is permanent

I hope all is well, or as well as it can be, with you all.

Love to you @SpiritOfEdna after the horrors in Liverpool yesterday. Praying that you and yours are ok 🙏 💐

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 27/05/2025 12:02

@WinterFrogs - yes I made it rain a bit. Enough to take the washing in and finish it off in the dryer but not enough to actually help the garden! Although it’s raining more at the moment.

@SpiritOfEdna - echoing WinterFogs words. Such an awful thing to happen at such a happy event.

So yesterday I did manage to get a start on the new plants. Weeded where some are going and removed a shrub that hasn’t grown in three years. Planted three of the new plants. Hoped to get more done today but it’s raining.

I also contacted a gardener about coming to do some tidying up and cutting back while DH is out of action and she is popping in today. DH initially not keen as thinks he can do it all but has come around to the idea and now suggesting we ask for a bit of regular help! Yay!

Didn’t do any of the other jobs on my list yesterday so am doing them today plus changing my bed.

Hope everyone is well!

SpiritOfEdna · 27/05/2025 14:35

Morning - @Peridot1 @WinterFrogs thank you x I did go to see the parade, but not in the city centre where the event happened. Where I was, it was very good natured and happy, but what a way for it to end.

Today I am trying to organise my trip to Spain - think I am sorted now; having been fleeced by EasyJet, next on my list is insurance - done while it was on my list

I normally have a PT training session early this morning but very glad it was shifted to Thurs and Fri this week.
