I'm on chapter 13 @Aria999 and i take back what i said about the narrator and the story being dull.
I nearly bought the book book, but I have settled into the audio and I am just finding the imagery absolutely beautiful. I'm inclined to speed read, and listening has forced me to slow down and get immersed in both the tale and the descriptions. The words really paint a picture in my head. I've taken to listening to the previous chapter with my pillow speaker at bedtime with the time set. But otherwise listening to as much as i can when up and about.

No book club for me though i saw an article about one where people just get together and read their own books in peace, which sounded quite nice.

Sorry you have been feeling rough, @petalpower l hope you feel better very soon!

Lovely day here today, cool but sunny, and the colours are so vivid. I am watching the swallows 💕

I have never made banana bread @Mumtobabyhavoc It's as much as I can do to get a meal on the table. I hope the havocs enjoyed it, sprinkles and all! I hope you don't catch the lurgy!

Just keeping on top of things round here. Busy with the newish wfh job. I've got to get better at switching off from it, but there's always something to do! I do have our dinner planned and washing on the line though. Bed made. All that. Just no extras. Going to listen to my story in the garden now i think.

Best wishes to you all ❤️ Regulars and lurkers 👋

@Mumtobabyhavoci have given up on the book club. DS was refusing to follow directions and stating he would instead do whatever he wanted, he also took one of the staff radios and ran around being annoying with it 🤦‍♀️

I need to make banana bread, the bananas we bought last week will liquify soon!

@WinterFrogs haha yes I thought you hadn't got very far in. Slow burn but quite gripping!

Peridot1 · 17/05/2025 15:20

Hi all.

I am back home from my Ireland trip. Everyone survived! And I had a nice couple of days with another sister at the end. Caught up with a couple of friends. Did some shopping.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia - love the mirror!

@petalpower - lovely idea to get your mums ring reset for you.

I got back home on Wednesday. It was my birthday on Thursday which was spent mainly unpacking and catching up with my washing etc. I always like to just stay at home for a bit when I have been away. We did go over the the pub for dinner which was nice and some neighbours were there so we had a couple of drinks with them.

Today I did a load of my washing, stripped a bed completely including mattress and pillow protectors, put two new pillows on and switched out the duvet so I can wash it and some pillows. I also packed away my winter jumpers and cleared space in the chest of drawers for my summer stuff which will need a bit of a wash to freshen up after being in a trunk all winter.

I was hoping to sit in the garden with my book but the sun seems to have disappeared.

SpiritOfEdna · 17/05/2025 15:30

@WinterFrogs I have been putting my pictures back up today (YES THEY ARE HOME) and now I need to do paint touch ups 😂😂😂. Four pictures have taken 2 hours 😂 Home alone and it is bliss!! I’ve done the filling in of the holes, rubbing out my pencil marks and now I wait. Just a dog walk for me later and some lazy tidying up. I absolutely love the idea of a book club where you sit and read your own book in companionable silence. In fact I may go and strip my bed and then have an early-ish night with a book later.

@Peridot1 Happy belated birthday 🎂

Enjoy the lovely sunny day everyone x

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 17/05/2025 20:36

Hey all, hope you've had (or are about to have, @Mumtobabyhavoc) a lovely Saturday 🥰

I'm currently in bed with dd, who, despite trying to fall asleep on me earlier, is 'nee naw'ing very loudly next to me.

We managed to get out into camden today, to have a look around. I want to get dd out and walking across the city as much as possible, rather than using the car.

Managed to wash up, hang up a load of washing, put on my whites, tidy up a little and make a stir fry which I've frozen. Might make a curry tonight as I'm craving one.

@WinterFrogs I haven't done any of the reading i planned! 🥺 - i will try again with HP on Monday when dd is at school

@petalpower happy belated birthday! I like to stay home after being away as well, it feels like anything recovery

I've got eurovision on in the background, and then once dd drops off, it's curry and wine for me 🥰

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/05/2025 22:56

Sounds like a very nice plan for your night Mumofone. I also like your meal prep. 😋
Aria, I'm not sure how I will handle and deal with school issues when the time comes. 🤔 Logically, I know in the grand scope of life day to day issues are nothing. I tend to be a bit strict, though, when it comes to a few things: manners, doing as told and trying your best/honest effort. Did you see the thread where all the Y6 boys (100 of them apparently) were punished after exams?
SoE glad you finally have your newly framed pics back.
Happy belated Peridot. 🥳

I had dc out last night for a good walk in the rain and a slice of cake. I vacuumed when we got home. (Am I repeating myself? )Took Havoc to activity this morning and then two loads laundry done and hung up once home and another load folded and put away. I really need to pop out for groceries, but gawd I'm tired...dc are napping.

eta: Aria, meaning I know I have a lot to learn.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/05/2025 23:07

Winter, banana bread is dead easy and a very good excuse for cake for breakfast. 😀
Love your afternoon plan. 🩷

Aria999 · 17/05/2025 23:09

Those are good foundations @Mumtobabyhavoc! No, I didn't see that one.

DS is a bit of a force of nature. I do set boundaries and impose consequences but it's exhausting. Hoping for an easier school experience with DD 😁

"Exhausting" is an understatement, isn't it? 😵‍💫

JingsMahBucket · 18/05/2025 19:11

@Mumtobabyhavoc thank you so much for being kind and checking up on us. I’ve been feeling really down lately and wholly unmotivated to do anything, especially work wise. 😔 I’ve managed to do a few household tasks this weekend but not the client and personal business that I NEED to do. My ADHD is resisting. Anyway, let me list out what I actually have done this weekend:

  • Stripped and aerated the bed
  • Put on new sheets and new pillows
  • Washed the previous set of pillows
  • Washed the duvet cover
  • A towel wash is going right now
  • Cleaned the kitchen surfaces
  • Cleaned the half bath toilet and sink
  • Grocery shopping yesterday morning

Next I think I’ll sort my meds for the week into their pill boxes. That’ll make my life a lot easier this week. I’ll try to catch up on the thread and check in more this week. Y’all folks are really nice and a good cubby hole away from the rest of MN. 🙂

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 18/05/2025 19:43

Good to see you @JingsMahBucket !

Hi everyone! [waves]

Hi and bye tbh. Just about to clean the kitchen and finish ironing.

Love to all. Sorry to read and run just wanted to check in. Thanks

petalpower · 18/05/2025 19:44

Sorry to hear you’ve been finding things a bit tough @JingsMahBucket . It’s a good group here and very supportive.
Hope everyone has had a good weekend. 💕

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 18/05/2025 19:54

Sorry @JingsMahBucket to hear youre feeling down. You've had a productive weekend though - take care and rest well tonight 💕

WinterFrogs · 18/05/2025 20:00

Big love to all you exhausted parents ❤️ We had littlest overnight and we hit the ground running at 5.30am. But we've given her back now!

Welcome back @JingsMahBucket We trundle along. No pressure here. Looks like you achieved a lot. Well done 💐

I avoid the rest of the forum most of the time. Sometimes I have fits of scrolling but I'm quick to leave threads that annoy me. I have found a lot of value in some of the threads and find it really interesting to read different points of view.

Happy belated birthday @Peridot1 🎂

Today I have picked up drinking more water.
Rebecca has definitely become more gripping. I went to see my mother today in the care home. I joined in a quiz, which was fun. The activity staff are hilarious and manage to include everyone.

The bananas in my house get eaten very quickly @Mumtobabyhavoc but banana bread does sound tempting.

As does curry and a glass of wine @mumofoneAlonebutokay! I hope dd nodded off in the end so you didn't have to eat too late.

We've mostly just kept chaos at bay today. I shall go to bed soon, and be read my story by Anna Massey ( turns out she played Mrs Danvers in one of the films) I might read Jamaica Inn next ( after I've wrestled my kindle back from DH and finished The Inheritors)

I hope you are all enjoying a lovely Sunday 💕

WinterFrogs · 18/05/2025 20:05

I meant to say @JingsMahBucket that there is something special about clean sheets on the bed. It's a real self care exercise I think. And setting out medication for the week is really important, especially if you have ADHD and are like to forget. There's an element of 'it's all just too difficult' when you have adhd, isn't there? And then you find it wasn't that hard, and life feels better as a result ( no need to ask how I know...)

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/05/2025 20:16

@JingsMahBucket so nice you found some time to post here. Your list is very extensive! I imagine having adhd would be very exhausting. Is it? More energy required to focus and get things done? I just read a short article (if a MSN page can be considered that😂) listing phrases used to mask struggles. I hope you are being kind to yourself. Please celebrate your accomplishments. 🩷

I have done S.P.A.* here today. Breakfast, two lattes (for me)😂, scrolling for things to do with dc and refereeing dc.😵‍💫
I bought a new step ladder yesterday in my sloth-like move toward more painting. 🙄

*sweet piss all. 😊😇

petalpower · 18/05/2025 20:50

You are always so busy@Mumtobabyhavoc - a quiet day is a good day!

SpiritOfEdna · 19/05/2025 14:38

Morning all

I had a very strange day yesterday - absolutely no energy at all - I felt like I was wading through treacle, but today am back on track (thank you sleep). I also think I have been 'caught' speeding by a mobile police van - we'll see I was a couple of miles above (32/33 in a 30). It'll come out of the dog's pocket money as I was on my way to pick her up from her walk #joke

Today:

  • dead flies! grim and needing to be cleaned up - DONE
  • lots of ironing to do
  • find some facebook groups for my CdS trip - DONE
  • maybe order some paint samples for bedroom.
  • repot some indoor plants - DONE
  • cancel a trip to go the opera in June - the cost of accommodation and travel were making it super expensive. I get a refund to the ROH account so I will need to maybe try and find a matinee and avoid an overnight stay.
  • tidy desk -again
  • walk SpiritDoggo later
  • gym session later - I have a bit of catching up to do from weekend
A light duty kind of day 😃at least it is a lot cooler today, have a good one, SoE

I will cross my fingers that you're were only an mph or two over @SpiritOfEdna Ewww dead flies! Sounds like a lot done though. Good news about the frames.
Busy work day today and much of it out of the house. I have a good list for tomorrow but the biggie is to get our bedsheets washed and on the line early, as we only have one set of summer duvet cover and pillow cases.
I have a touch of inflammation around my hip/upper thigh, and I found some very helpful exercises online.

Wiped up crumbs from under the breakfast table.
Put towels into wash on hot, extra long wash with bleach. A few in the bunch had been in the car over the weekend and damp from wiping rain off stroller and other gear. They had a certain odour.

SoE, lack of sleep really catches up with you, doesn't it?
I managed to get back to sleep this morning after waking before 6:30am. 😅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/05/2025 20:17

It's Victoria Day here, btw. So, holiday Monday. 🥳
It's typically the first camping weekend (usually miserable with rain/cold) as well.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victoria_Day

WinterFrogs · 20/05/2025 07:01

I do like your little snippets of Canada @Mumtobabyhavoc We have a bank holiday next Monday. You probably know that terrible weather is traditional on all UK bank holidays.
I haven't been camping for years! Did a lot as a child, then my parents got into caravanning.
My washing is in.

The house is just in disarray today. A general need for things to be put back where they belong, and a wipe down of surfaces. Should only take an hour.

I think it's going to be cool and sunny today.

Have a great day all 🍵 🍰

Morning everyone! Thanks for the lovely welcome back. And yes @WinterFrogs, clean sheets are definitely a form of self care in my house. Especially climbing in with clean night clothes too. @Mumtobabyhavoc enjoy the day off!

Yesterday I was still feeling down and so was a wash. Instead of more dithering, I decided to catch up on season 5 of The Handmaid’s Tale and had a binge watching session. Today is a new day. I’m about to get up and shower to get ready. Here are my projects / aims for today:

  • pull meat out of the freezer for dinner tonight
  • 2 video calls with people this morning
  • compile/write my newsletter
  • do at least 3 hours of billable client work
  • invoice said client
  • Rejig my schedule for the week
  • client calls
  • some other professional calls
  • pick up some milk and fruit while out
  • call the GP or the pharmacy to nudge them on my prescription
  • pay some NYC bills
  • Choose clothes for a trip away on Thursday. I may have to do laundry for summer clothes because the weather has changed so much.

I’m sure there’s other malarkey I can think of but that’s just the brain dump for now.

Have a beautiful sunny day where ever y’all are! 🙂

RunningKatie · 20/05/2025 13:39

I'm still here, thank you for checking up on me. My auntie passed away last month and DFIL is now officially on end of life care so it's not a fun time. DH is camped at the hospital, no idea how long he'll be away for.
I'm trying to keep all the plates spinning here, got everything written on post-it's so my head doesn't explode. Tonight I need to figure out how to get water out of the water butt to feed some plants that are very fussy. Can't be rocket science, hopefully I can manage it, or a teenager can!
Apart from that I've got a line full of washing out - hopefully being bleached in the sunshine. We have some baby birds in a nest box so it's lovely going outside and hearing them cheeping away. The cheeping is getting louder day by day so the parents are doing a great job.
Hope everyone is ok.
