Hi all

I had a guy from Hillarys come by today to measure my windows for shutters

I want cafe style ones - it works out as almost £400 per window! I didn't want to have to put up shutters myself but I'd be saving almost 60%, so will have to make do, or wait and save

Took dd shopping this morning and I've got the radio on for this afternoon while we just relax and play with dd's bubbles

Have a lovely one all ❤

WinterFrogs · 10/05/2025 17:03

Hello!
Lovely to read everyone's news 😊 I have had a very busy week - hence the early morning magnificence of yesterday. Nothing much happened house- wise after breakfast. Did book one appointment.
Today...a morning with the horses as a volunteer. Absolutely wonderful this time of year.
I'm very weary so I've taken to me bed with the inheritors and a cup of tea, but I'm struggling to keep my eyes open so may resort to Rebecca on audio.
I managed 15 mins of Rebecca last night and can see why it's a classic now. Beautifully descriptive and atmospheric, though I can't get too excited over the famous opening sentence.

Ps the Wordle in two was a simple stroke of luck. There's no skill to a two I don't think. I got it in one, once. The word was 'music'.

Pps I was watching Bluey with Littlest, and I thought of the Havocs. It is one of the cutest children's programmes I think. Relatable. Not manic like a lot of them are. Looking at you, Blippi!

Big hugs all round, and wishing you all caffeine in your coffee. Except the insomniacs ❤️

Good morning all! Have you gone to bed yet @Aria999 and @Mumtobabyhavoc ?

I have looked up shakshuka and it does look delicious @mumofoneAlonebutokay And very wholesome!

I'm sorry your back is limiting your ability to do the garden @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia That must be frustrating. I think I have said before how I think I'm invincible (or 25 !) and then overdo it and tweak bits of me. Usually the intercostal muscles, but occasionally a knee or a hip go ping. I get someone in to do the heavier stuff now, which is a godsend.

👋 @Peridot1 Glad you are still enjoying time in Ireland! You are supersister!! 🦸‍♀️

What did you get for the birthday dog @petalpower ?

Anyone done wordle yet today? I got a very average 5, and it stretched me this morning.

Dare I ask after the picture frames @SpiritOfEdna ? I hope you got enough done on your afternoon off that you get time to relax this weekend. No doubt it'll involve sand!

I have some catching up to do round the house today. My routines went out the window this week so stuff that usually gets done, didn't. I'm only ever a few days away from chaos - I'm very aware I'm not cured! There is paper clutter on the dining room table, my sink is very definitely not shiny and there are some sticky fingerprints which need attention. Not to mention bed sheets being overdue for a wash. Should get it done in a morning though.

Happy Sunday everyone 💐

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/05/2025 08:18

Wordle in 5 also- did not even know that WAS a word! I also got it in one once but that was because it was by fluke one of my starter words. I still smile when I use Havoc as my starter word. I have three and rotate them.

Our bed sheets are also overdue @WinterFrogs ! My back has been playing up alot and I have another appointment with an arthritis consultant next month. Last night we went to a party and there was a great band and dancing. So I bopped with my feet not moving and just sort of waving my arms around. Grin

@Peridot1 's trip sounds great. I am DETERMINED to get to Ireland next year. Bucket list. Smile

Today I am doing the basics and then taking the DCs to lunch and to see the new David Attenborough film 'Ocean' at the cinema. Very excited- and we have a trip booked to the Great Barrier Reef in August so Very Exciting. Lunch will be either pizza hut or a lovely little pizza pasta restaurant that is nearby. I obviously prefer the latter but it's the Dcs choice today.

Gorgeous day out there!

Hope everyone is fine and well and that all loved ones are well also. Thanks to all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/05/2025 08:24

Still awake here. 😭
My Wordle starter words are cream or dream. I used to use house or horse.
I usually get it in 3-4. I really like it when I have to work at it and get it on the last try, though. I like the little, Phew! that pops up. 😊

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 11/05/2025 08:28

Mine are paper, share and havoc.

I like it when it says 'splendid'!

WinterFrogs · 11/05/2025 08:39

My two was splendid @Mumtobabyhavoc!

I agree it's more fun when it's tricky. DH got it in 7 today. The word wasn't familiar to me either @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia and I had to resort to an elimination word today. DH and I take turns choosing the starter word and it's different every day. Half the fun is in choosing the word (sad acts 😆)

Sweet dreams Mum.

I think I've used Havoc before. A great word for all the reasons 💕

How exciting to have booked a trip Lobelia!

I've got as far as having a shower and putting bedding in the washing machine. I made DH get out of bed so I could do it. He's watching football on telly now, but is muttering about putting cars through car wash and mowing the lawn. Suits me as I like to Do Housework unhindered, and I despise both jobs he's threatening to do.

OP posts:
SpiritOfEdna · 11/05/2025 09:19

My starter word is audio but it used to be adieu. I like to know my vowels up front 😂

@WinterFrogs I did message friend re frames Thursday she answered yesterday and she’s had a family bereavement so will wait.

Did a 2 hour walk through country park yesterday bits were quite hilly and uneven in parts as part of CdeS prep. SpiritDoggo loved it but she has been sparko since 😂. Today is walking through sand dunes and the gym. Later I need to do some general tidying up before settling down for football. Not sure where the weekend has gone!

petalpower · 11/05/2025 09:27

I’m a wordle player too! I usually use raise and touch as my starting words. Today was hard I thought.
Junior Petaldog has a split antler for his birthday @WinterFrogs and senior Petaldog will get one too as a belated birthday present. There will be some argy bargy if they don’t both get one!
Those shutters sound expensive @mumofoneAlonebutokay but everything seems expensive now!
Tomorrow will be my sheet change day. It’s time to put the cosy brushed cotton set away and go onto the summer sets. My neighbours have given me some climbing beans that need planting out asap so that will be my extra jobs were today. There’s a big pile of ironing too which I must tackle. A bit if family admin to catch up for FIL’s birthday and also hoping to have a FaceTime call with my dad when my brother visits him in the care home.
Have a lovely day everyone!

Mothers Day Mom GIF

It's Mother's Day this side of the pond and the sun is trying it's best here in YVR. ⛅️
DC were awake at 6:30am and after tending to both I wasn't able to get them to settle back for a bit of sleep. Mini tantrum from me. 😭
Coffe/latte made, pancakes (some plain, some choc chips, some with pink sugar sprinkled on), maple syrup, whipped cream and a fruit platter. Must vacuum and wash floors and put dry clothes away. Must also get into the garden which has been ignored for a week, but am planning on getting out with DC first.

Wishing everyone on the thread a Happy Mother's Day and a big thank you for all the inspiration and support you all provide on this thread. 🩷🩷🩷🌸🌸🌸

Happy Mother's day @Mumtobabyhavoc 💐

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2025 06:08

I managed to get two loads of laundry washed and hung up and then vacuumed and steam mopped the floor after dinner and after being out with dc all afternoon. I felt my efforts deserved a second piece of cake for dessert. 🤭
I'm still avoiding tonnes of tasks. 😧

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/05/2025 19:45

I've put yesterday's laundry away and got another load done. Baby is napping and then I'm heading out with the dc for the afternoon.
I also opened up the bin of Havoc's old clothes I've saved for baby and pulled out the 18 mos items and put a few things in the donation box I've got going.

SpiritOfEdna · 13/05/2025 09:52

Happy Mother's day, belatedly...

Morning

I can't remember if I mentioned upthread but I lost (and found) my phone last week, and then, a day later, dropped my one (and only) car key on a field which necessitated a crime scene finger tip search of said (huge) field, luckily I found it and then Friday I got alerted to fraudulent transactions on my credit card, which must have fallen out of my pocket on the beach. Whoever got it were ramping up on the spends - starting at 4 quid and the final try before it got declined was 50 quid. I got alerted by the bank (I thought it was a scam message!!!!) and stopped the card and I got a refund today of the three transactions that had gone through - beer and crisps!!!!! So that must have been the last of it.

My and my flighty brain logic - I am I am very busy at the moment in work and everything else slides down the sides. I am blaming the heat.
Today

  • Slowly emptying a wardrobe out so I can get some more space in my room, so bedding/camping/sports stuff have been stored elsewhere. That's one shelf cleared and I've taken the shelf out of the wardrobe so I can't fill it again and am itching to move the rest.
  • we've uncovered the garden furniture and it is very very rusty - need to make a restore/get rid of decision
  • the roses are full of greenfly so need a plan of action there
  • chop down all the dead spring plants
  • move the lilies from the shade
  • take all dishes from bedroom downstairs
That's all for now, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/05/2025 13:51

SoE I'm concerned for you only having one key...perhaps get a 2nd one asap?

Just trying to go back to sleep here. Havoc woke me at ten to 5 because of a lost toy. 😵‍💫 Easily found it, then bathroom, then water.... has just gone back to sleep and I'm sandwiched with both dc, arm falling asleep but afraid to move too much and wake either!!! 😂😂😂😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 13/05/2025 15:49

Two big steps for our household

Thanks to a suggestion from mumsnet, i took dd to her first Rainbows session. It went alright, dd had fun! but did find the sitting down bits hard. Fingers crossed she settles in over the next few weeks, although I will have to stay with her

Also, finally, successfully took dcat for a walk! I got her a third new carrier which she responded well to - I think because it's a solid structure rather than a soft carrier

We went on a bus journey to explore our new area. She was very popular 🤭 which I didn't even think about, so I got chatting to a few people, which was nice

Hope you're all okay 💕

Happy belated mothers day @Mumtobabyhavoc

@petalpower that does sound expensive right? I've only got sash windows, and I'm only doing half of the window 😬🥺

@SpiritOfEdna oh no, re last week - hopefully this one is a more chilled one!

Have a lovely evening everyone 😘

Love the cat carrier @mumofoneAlonebutokay!

glad you found the car key @SpiritOfEdna and that you got the credit card sorted! I once had someone steal £5k off mine as a balance transfer, I got a new one but for ages afterwards it kept getting canceled every time I tried to do anything with it. I have heard horror stories about banks refusing to pay when there is fraud so I am glad there was no problem there for you!

today Must. Mop. Kitchen. Floor.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/05/2025 12:25

Morning - what a lovely dcat 😄
My morning started off with unblocking a toilet, but I've now ordered some books online with a voucher I got last year such is the yin and yang of my life.
Today

  • pile of notebooks by my desk to go in the bin
  • dismantle wardrobe in my room and plan on a trip to the tip; shelves are all empty
  • dithering about fixing or selling a couple of old phones: lol might fix, get the photos off and then sell
  • catching up with admin as not got many meetings today
  • I'm collaborating on a piece of extra work with a colleague, which I would rather I was doing alone. I need to find a way of playing nicely and getting it done - it is taking up too much mental space.🙂
  • filing and shredding today
  • Ordered a new breakfast bar for kitchen, just need some suitable stools now, so research needed.
  • looking for a leather strap to refresh a bag.so I can start using it. My love hate relationship with amazon continues. Found one - will save for next pay day
  • ......and must mop the floor too
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
mumofoneAlonebutokay · 14/05/2025 19:10

Evening all 💕

Managed to clean the kitchen, living room and bedrooms today
Changed the toilet seat to one that is a dual seat for adults and kids

Just need to vacuum tomorrow. Must also mop kitchen floor as well 😄

Then on Friday (payday) need to book the car in for a full service 🙄

Had a fright today, the spanner warning light came on and the car started lurching forwards when I was driving to pick up dd. Had to pray it got us home! Apparently it means that my oil needs changing and a service is required. How lovely for my bank balance

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 14/05/2025 20:08

happy belated Mother's day for all who celebrated!

So pleased that DD enjoyed Rainbows @mumofoneAlonebutokay

best wishes and waves to everyone!

Been off-thread the past couple of days because I got some extra hours at my temp job- all funds to my holiday account and ready for our summer holiday. Although like @mumofoneAlonebutokay my car had and unexpected clutch problem and that put in a sizeable dent into my reserve funds.

I did, however, do 'something' yesterday with my 'grotto'. This is a tall and narrow recessed part to our Victorian house. I always planned to put a statue of some sort but as a 'placeholder' (because is was very bare) put a climbing rose in the space. The climbing rose has gone crazy and I have not yet found the right statue for it. So I attached one of our (Aldi!) garden mirrors to the back of it just to see what it looks like. I am quite pleased with it. The rampant briar rose at the front has loads of thorns and gorgeous large lemon coloured flowers. I am quite pleased, but still on the look out for a comfortably-sized cherub.

Hope all our esteemed daily Projecteers and loved ones are well. x

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 15/05/2025 12:55

Made up for my productive day yesterday by achieving very little today 🤭

I'm just sat in bed, listening to Trilogy by The Weeknd, one of fave albums, and singing along loudly, before I leave to do pick up

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia thank you 🥰

How annoying re the car! It's always when you're making other plans that the car decides your life has been going a little too well lately 🙄

I love your grotto though, it's pretty! And the mirror was a good idea x

Have a lovely (and cool ☺️) afternoon all xx

WinterFrogs · 16/05/2025 07:08

Ohhh that little face @mumofoneAlonebutokay 🐈 😻
Love that nook @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia ! How creative you are!
Your yin and yang made me smile @SpiritOfEdna
I do love these little snapshots of our lives!

No time to stop but as always enjoying catching up with you all!

I really need to do something about the state of the flat surfaces in the bedroom. Clutter has crept, again! And I must de-flea the cat!

I've stopped reading the inheritors temporarily because DH has borrowed the kindle.
I'm really enjoying Rebecca, to my surprise. It's still excellent at getting me to sleep, but I'm catching up with it on headphones during the day. The story is dull, but the writing is glorious! Anyone else read it? According to the blurb, Mrs D is the antagonist - but the bloke is an absolute arse! Poor old nameless protagonist! I want to scoop her up and give her a cuddle (aaand, I'm off again!)

See you all later 👋 💐

Hello @WinterFrogsyes I did re-read it recently because my book club did it (which I have stopped attending now as they mostly did books I didn't like). I like it! How far have you got through it?

love the mirror @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia that's a good idea!

I did manage to mop the kitchen floor and change the sheets.

today is a short day because DS has to miss after-school club due to Behavior so I need to get him at 3.15. Until then I have some work to do.

petalpower · 16/05/2025 17:33

That’s really pretty @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia !
Time whizzing by faster than ever here. I’ve had a rotten cold this week so have felt pretty under the weather. I’ve managed to take a specialist collection from my dad’s house to someone who will arrange it going to auction this week and take a ring of my late mum’s to a jewellers to see about getting it re-set so it matches my engagement and eternity rings a little more in style. Steps forward with some of the family items. Apart from that it’s just been keeping on top of the usual jobs.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/05/2025 18:09

Petal, how lovely that you'l have your dmum's ring. That's very special. 🩷
Aria, will you go back to your book club when a book you're interested in is chosen, or are you just letting it go? It would feel a bit like required reading at school if you don't like the book, I imagine. 🥱
What did dc do?
Winter, I still can't find time to read.
Lobelia, lovely idea with the mirror and window illusion.
Spirit, old phones are collectibles now!
Mumofone, I hope you are feeling refreshed today.

@JingsMahBucket
@RunningKatie
@Peridot1
Hope you are doing well?

DC's teacher called in sick yesterday, so I'm keeping dc home from school today thinking something must be going around the classroom and I don't want it. I have a scratchy throat and am a bit congested already.

The temp has dropped and it rained yesterday. Looks to be the same today. Threw all the towels in the wash on hot with bleach first thing today and the made a banana bread with dc. Sprinkled pink decorating sugar on top.
I just checked it and it's still not done... maybe too much banana and not enough flour. 😧
