Good evening all

It was dd's first day back at school today but she didn't sleep much last night and was sneezy and exhausted, so I kept her home and awake. Fingers crossed for a better morning tomorrow.

Back to trying to eat healthily, and for my late lunch I made poached eggs with steamed broccoli covered in pesto - was yummy, and was my first try at making them 🥺, so I'm quite proud 🤭

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia I hope your family member is okay 🥺, I can imagine just how stressful it is

@Peridot1 I'm going back to reading too, after spending way too much time online this Easter break - managed to make a start on The Secrets of Flowers.

@SpiritOfEdna I had to Google the casino de Santiago, but it sounds like an amazing trip, although i definitely couldn't manage the walking - notre dame at the end sounds 🙌🙌

@WinterFrogs I have saved that podcast for when I eventually do the school run

💕

This talk of putting Christmas decos away has got me thinking about pulling all the boxes out of the storage room again. I never did find my BRAND NEW IN THE BOX MACBOOK that I packed away Sept '23 when the floors were getting done. Was is stolen???? Did I hide it really well in a box-in a box-in a box?

Sorry to hear about the ankle and back. Take care of yourself!

Gorgeous spring morning here! 🌤️ Temps not supposed to be above 13/14c today, I think, which suits me perfectly. Hoping to meet a friend I haven't seen since Aug '23 when we were both pregnant with our #2's. Both our dc are same ages, older are 2mos apart and younger are 1month apart.
Looking forward to pics of dc all together. 😍

Central central London is awesome but ludicrously expensive as I recall. I lived in hammersmith, herne hill and Canada water.

Sorry I didnt see this - i love central London 😍 and they sound like lovely places to live

I'm not in such a nice part but its a nice victorian building and it's not tooo far from camden 🙌, which i love

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/04/2025 18:21

Lobelia, sorry to hear you might have to go away again for family emerg. I'm sending you best wishes from YVR and hoping things will be okay. 💕

MumofOne, lovely looking snack! Do you like cooking or trying new recipes? How are you setting in? I hope dc feel better soon. We've all had colds twice this past month.

Made lovely steel cut oats for brekkie today. Butter, cinnamon and berries with it for dc, berries, banana, cinnamon and pecans with it for me - and a bit of brn sugar! 😋 (and a very large latte) 🥱

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 22/04/2025 19:52

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc

I love to cook and try new recipes, but haven't really felt motivated

My kitchen overlooks a park and is bigger than my old one so I'm ready to get stuck in with trying new recipes and skills

Those oat cakes sound amazing, I bet the kids loved it - my dd has oats with raspberries on winter mornings, so warming

Sorry to hear about your macbook! I imagine you've turned the house upside down looking for it, what a shame - the thing is, how do you prove it was stolen 🥺

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/04/2025 22:00

MumofOne, I know! I have opened all the boxes already, but I will have to do it again. I do remember putting it into something to hide it, but what?????
I should have specified we had porridge with the steel cut oats. We called it porridge growing up, but now I tend to say oatmeal (which might be more American, I'll Google...).

I'd love to visit the UK. London sounds so sophisticated. 😊 I'd also like to see where family emigrated from 100+ years ago (Stoke-on-Trent, for one; over in Ireland as well).

It's still sunny here. Haven't heard from friend yet, but I think they're up in Whistler, so it may take a while. DC need to nap still or it'll be a gong show.... 😂

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 23/04/2025 06:45

@mumofoneAlonebutokay your new place sounds so lovely. Victorian, London and overlooking a park! I love the sound of that. For a short while when I first moved to the UK we were renting a flat in Fulham. I loved the bustle and the vibe (but not the flight noise overhead!) and the restaurants and shops. We are much more rural now and I like that too, but love a day in London looking at all the sights.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I am so sorry about your Macbook! I lost DH's big birthday present last year- like you I packed it away when we were having the carpets done and have never seen it again. DH hasn't noticed either Hmm Grin

Thanks for support re family member everyone. I feel so helpless sitting here in my house waiting for decisions.

Hope everyone has a good day.

SpiritOfEdna · 23/04/2025 14:38

Morning
It's funny how we are all independently thinking the same-ish things. I was thinking of getting the christmas decorations out to give them some fancy new ribbons to hang off the tree on. Maybe I'll find something I've lost (not a MacBook though)😄

Today is a planning and finance day as I get paid Friday!

  • Looking at train travel across France for C-de-S. Challenging my very rusty French
  • Had a very short bike ride last night, will go out again later. Also a gym session to go through
  • we have been checking pockets etc for cash to see us through to Friday 😀I did find 15 quid so not too bad.
  • I've been trying on clothes today so I need to hang them back up
  • work out what is happening to a DD with credit card. It's set up but is never processed (I pay lump sums to it monthly, so never noticed the DD issue). I will have to psyche myself up for a phone call.
Not a huge amount, but that will do for today, have a good one, SoE

Hi, everyone! ☀️ Gorgeous here in YVR today.
Was awake 10 mins before alarm set for 6am, so that was a win. 👍
Kids were fed and Havoc dressed to come with me to get car serviced. Appt was 7:30am.
Home by 9:30 and made apple-cinnamon pancakes with whipped cream and maple syrup. 🇨🇦
Both dc fell asleep shortly after 11am (about an hour ago) and I'll wake them up in about a half hour.
Watching Suits LA first.
Taking dc out for the afternoon. 🤗

Lobelia, how did you lose the gift? 😂

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 23/04/2025 22:13

Hi all 🙌

I've had an okay day today. Dd was off school as she's poorly still, just a cold but she was quite miserable with it. We managed to get out though, just to the shops. Saw a huge argument between a woman in an audi and a delivery guy - they were really shouting at eachother. Welcome to London 🤭

Cooked a no carb dinner for myself, i made a madras curry with some left over pork chops. Dd had hers with rice.

@Mumtobabyhavoc I call porridge oatmeal too - definitely think it's an American thing 😄. Is suits LA any good? The reviews don't seem to like it

@SpiritOfEdna i've been browsing good artificial Christmas trees on the balsam hill website 🤭

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia thank you - it's kind of my dream flat, needs a lot of work, which I'll hopefully get stuck into this summer. The hustle and bustle was lovely today, really feel quite happy. We're opposites, sometimes I love to visit rural places - i love when driving you can see lots of trees overhead and you're kind of driving under them 🙌

❤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/04/2025 22:27

I forgot to Google porridge v oatmeal earlier.
I've now learned:
Porridge is the broad term and can refer to any grain cooked in water or milk (or broth). Oatmeal is specific as in porridge oatmeal. Porridges can be sweet or savoury.
Here in N Am we typically say oatmeal to meal porridge from oats and Brits say porridge. 🤓

@Mumtobabyhavoc I lost the gift by putting it somewhere safe. 😣

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 24/04/2025 06:39

The flat sounds lovely @mumofoneAlonebutokay Thanks

Now I know the difference between porridge and oatmeal! I thought they were the same!

WinterFrogs · 24/04/2025 07:01

Morning all! Just a quick check in so I don't lose you all. Lovely to read the chat 💐

Morning all.

Loving the porridge/oatmeal info. I always thought it was the same. But I suppose it explains why some brands of “porridge” say “porridge oats”. Oats for making porridge.

Your Camino trip sounds amazing @SpiritOfEdna. Getting real now that you are looking at booking things. There was a thread on MN last year I think from someone doing it and posting as she went.

We had people over for dinner last night. Was lovely but am tired today. Today will be spent getting the kitchen/dining areas back to normal.

I have booked a charity collection for tomorrow so I need to get everything ready for that as they may come when I’m out in the morning and DH will have to deal with it. I cleared out some of my clothes yesterday. Today will be books and DVDs. I also cleared out some table mats yesterday as I was doing the table for last night.

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/04/2025 16:32

Hi, Froggy. 🐸

I knew porridge and oatmeal were the same here, but I did wonder if the words were as interchangeable elsewhere. I also wondered why the names came about and why we say oatmeal and not porridge any longer.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/04/2025 21:19

Happy Saturday, everyone. ☀️
I had Havoc out this morning at a sport I've signed Havoc up for til mid June. Stayed after to play in the park and chat with some of the other parents. Once home managed to get Havoc into the bath, then baby and then sort laundry and get a load on to wash. I've put away a bunch of clothes as well. Just got baby down for a nap and going to make lunch. Need to run back to grocery store and return cream cheese I bought last night as both were bad. (Should not be liquidy and brown...) 🤮
I'm rather annoyed as I made a stop for the bagels at a special shop last night and was sooo looking forward to bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. 😭

Where do the days go? Not really seeming to achieve much projecteering at the moment as I’ve been very busy with family visiting again and then we go away for a few days tomorrow to visit elderly parents in law and my dad and stepmother. Beautiful sunny day here so may try to get out in the garden and also prepare for a meeting I’ve got with my dad’s nursing home manager.
Have a lovely day everyone!

Peridot1 · 27/04/2025 10:13

@Mumtobabyhavoc - awful news about the incident in Vancouver yesterday. Hope you and yours all ok.

@petalpower - I know what you mean. Time seems to fly by.

I had a bit of a hiccup with my charity collection as they arrived on Thursday rather than Friday so I had to send them away. Have rebooked for after I get back from Ireland mid May.

Today I am doing DS’s laundry and possibly some of mine. Might change a bed as it’s a lovely day and I can get it dry outside. Might also mow around the edges of the lawn. DH never thinks to do it. It’s a garden job I actually enjoy.

I need to get sorted this week as going to Ireland for two weeks. Looking after my sister’s two children while she and BIL go away. Best sister ever award goes to me! 😄 DC are 8 and 16 so it’s not too hard. I hope!

Have a lovely Sunday all.

WinterFrogs · 27/04/2025 11:09

I just read the news about Vancouver. Absolutely shocking! I hope you and yours are ok @Mumtobabyhavoc 💕 🙏

I've been away, and trying to avoid the internet, although it's hard. Back to reality now. What a beautiful day though!

You really are a best sister @Peridot1 💐 I am impressed! I hope you have a nice time.
@petalpower I can't believe it's nearly May already. Time is flying here too! Sounds like you project every day, you just don't class it as such.

I have laundry on the go, as it's a perfect drying day. Likely to have two loads. I've written a Monday list, and I have to draft a couple of emails to save brain power tomorrow. I need to clean the shower - bit of mould developed.

Best wishes to all ❤️

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope you are ok x

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/04/2025 19:46

Good morning, everyone. Thanks for the kind thoughts. 💕 Thankfully, we're fine. I saw the news online around midnight.

I was planning to take dc to that festival last night. I was faffing around, online shoe browsing, dc napped very late til 5pm, I kept looking at the festival map trying to figure out which route I'd take there and where to park considering I'd be pushing a stroller with baby and walking with Havoc....I finally decided I'd left it too late and scrapped going as there were only a couple hours left til closing at 8pm. Turns out the incident happened around 8pm and had we gone, we'd have likely just made our way to that area/would be making our way from that area to go back to the car.
(I figured I'd park around 49th and walk up through the festival to the main area at 41st).
I'm doubly shell shocked as several years ago I had been planning to take my mum to that music festival in Las Vegas that had the mass shooting, but had left planning that too late and we couldn't get accommodation, so ended up booking trip for a few days later. We used to go at that time of year, every year and stay at Luxor.
Anyway, having some reflection on our blessings and the many families that must be utterly devastated. Have had the tv news on past couple hours listening/watching coverage of it.

I spent about an hour cleaning the fridge out first thing this morning. I had a duck thawing and it leaked all over the shelf dripping down and into the drawers. Ugh. Ended up washing floor as taking everything out meant the mess went onto the floor. Got a wash on of all the tea towels and cloths used now.

I hope everyone has had a nice Sunday.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 27/04/2025 20:01

Oh @Mumtobabyhavoc Thanks How frightening. I am so glad you and the Havocs are fine but so sad for those who lost their lives. You must feel so shocked as you say. It's unspeakable. Thinking of you - but my words are not enough and I feel helpless to express what I do mean.

With love to you and all those who have been affected. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/04/2025 21:30

It's so out of character in our city. It is quite safe as far as cities go. We tend to very much live and let live here and are very multicultural. The police said the man is known to them re mental health issues, I believe, so I take it he snapped, so to speak. It seems he tried to run and was caught and held by bystanders. I'm surprised he wasn't ripped apart, frankly.

Peridot1 · 27/04/2025 22:25

I’m so glad that you are all ok @Mumtobabyhavoc. I know it’s the kind of event you tend to take your dcs to. There for the grace of God as they say. I’ve known a few people in similar situations with various events. Supposed to go but didn’t quite get there for one reason or another. It’s sometimes a hard one to get your head around.
