I thought if you and the children as soon as I heard the news @Mumtobabyhavoc . So glad you’re ok. Just dreadful for all the families involved.

Aria999 · 28/04/2025 02:18

Thank goodness @Mumtobabyhavoc. How awful.

WinterFrogs · 28/04/2025 06:31

Thank goodness @Mumtobabyhavoc That feels a bit close for comfort ❤️

@Mumtobabyhavoc so glad that you're okay ❤️ - I'm sorry that this has happened so close to home 🥺 xx

WinterFrogs · 28/04/2025 19:05

Evening all! How is everyone? @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia sorry about your family member. Do you know if you need to go, yet?
How are you settling in @mumofoneAlonebutokay ? I love the sound of your flat with its park view and high ceilings. I hope dd is feeling better.
Hope your nerves are settling @Mumtobabyhavoc as the people of your city process the awful happening 💕

Today i have returned some of my mother's mobility equipment to the hub where it came from. She's more mobile but only because things are so well set up in her care home. There's quite a lot of admin now, dealing with her house, which she still can't bring herself to let us sell. She has a bit of leeway, thankfully.

What else? Feels like I've been rushing around all day, but mainly errands. Bedroom's in a bit of a state which always happens when I have a lot going on. But I did change bedsheets and run the hoover round. That'll do. DH is cooking tea, and sent me to have a bubbly bath. He's a keeper!

I hope you all have a lovely evening ☕️ 🍷

Morning all.

Busy day here yesterday. Got quite a bit done. Lots of washing, bed changing and washing, dusting, and gave the hallway a good vacuum and washed the floor.

Then had a bit of a disaster with my food processor. Was grating carrots to make a carrot salad and as I took the food processor apart realised it hadn’t been put toghether properly and had shredded a white plastic rim on the edge of the bowl. Which all ended up in my nicely grated carrots. Had to chuck it all obviously. And then have a quick rethink as was taking the salad next door to our neighbours as a contribution to a bit of an impromptu meal there. Did a roasted carrot dish instead. Which was supposed to have feta crumbled over but when I went to get the feta from the fridge the packets were all swollen even though the feta was well in date. I don’t think I was meant to cook yesterday! DH is now trying to source a new bowl for the food processor.

Today is washing, changing my bed, collecting my medication, sorting the charity pile collection which is building up in the hallway and packing to fly to Ireland tomorrow. And we are having our first bbq of the year this evening. So nice to have such nice weather!

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 29/04/2025 09:32

Morning. Busy work day today but am hoping to get some house stuff done in and around meetings.

  • one of the climbing plants is drooping so need to get some hooks in to train it upwards rather than down - another trip into the shed 😃
  • order a birthday present and pick it up
  • Just got a reminder for SpiritDoggo's vaccinations.- but no available appointments. Don't know how that is supposed to work.
  • Chased my friend for pictures back.... 3 done 1 to go
  • need to put all the dishes away and clean the next lot (praying for dishwasher part to turn up!)
  • hoover up spider webs in the kitchen and climb up and clean the extractor fan as it looks filthy (I might just go and work somewhere else and ignore, though both annoy me everytime I am working here)
  • I need to stop looking, the light fittings look dusty as well...
That will be all for the day, not sure how SpiritDoggo is going to get a walk today, have a good one, SoE
WinterFrogs · 29/04/2025 15:58

Sorry, I'm laughing about your food processor processing itself @Peridot1 😆
I hope you can find a new bowl!
There's always something needing doing, isn't there @SpiritOfEdna I hope spirit doggo gets her walk. Sounds like the fresh would do you good too!

I have washing on the line, dinner is done ( to be reheated) Mopped kitchen floor. Bedroom still a state. Have ticked off several work/admin tasks. There's quite a lot of dust and I should hoover the stairs too really. Not going to though as the day started early ( volunteering) and it's quite hot and I've run out of puff!
I may get to my beside table later.

Hope all is well with everyone 💜

Uh, oh! Re the food processor incident. 😂

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 30/04/2025 17:11

Hey everyone from a sunny London ☀️

I'm not a lover of the sun myself, I love the autumn winter months, but its nice

I've had my shower nice and early, so I'm ready for bed already

Dd is driving me nuts today 😄, I think that now she's back to school, the move has really hit her 🥺 so she's acting up a little. She covered herself in the cocoa butter i (foolishly) left out after my shower so now I have a very shiny child 🤭

Thank you @WinterFrogs , we've finally, finally got enough of the living room unpacked to sit in here and relax - previously we'd been living in the bedrooms and the cat had full run of the living room bless her. I'm hoping to take her out in a carrier on Friday, when it gets cooler

Its an okay flat, far from perfect and is small 😄 but the views and location make it worth it

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hope things are settling for you all after what happened? 🥺

@Peridot1 you made me laugh with your processor processing itself - have a lovely time in Ireland 🇮🇪

@SpiritOfEdna did your dog get their walk in the end? x

@WinterFrogs your post actually inspired me to get up and start on the living room today 🙌🥰

We're inching closer to the bank holiday weekend 😎 xx

WinterFrogs · 30/04/2025 20:20

Shiny child! That made me grin @mumofoneAlonebutokay ! Has she moved schools?

I had an epic day and got loads done. Various errands, weeded patio, hoovered stairs and behind sofa.
Made a smug stew.

Had letter telling me to book a smear. Oh the glamour. Need to see if I can book it on the app. I miss the days of just phoning up.

Aria999 · 30/04/2025 20:30

Hi everyone!

house is a mess here, I was going to tidy it yesterday but some unexpected work cropped up. Work is mostly in that stage where I need a project and can't get one, but a previous client needed some urgent help with their excel spreadsheet which they had thoroughly broken by saving it in google sheets. (Never do this, the two programs superficially look compatible but they really are not beyond the absolute basics).

as usual I have somehow reached nearly pickup time without achieving much. School started late today because there was a big storm last night.

today's job is taking all the sheets and towels back down to the cellar - they are currently stacked in the hallway as we had a mold removal team in the cellar.

I asked some contractors what to do about the mold, the first one suggested a $13k solution and the second one a $3k solution. Easy choice!

must now go actually do something useful before school run!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/04/2025 22:42

Aria, I'd like to know what the solutions are.

Just treading water here. Sheets and mattress cover went into the washing machine before taking dc to school. Got home, made them lunch and put them both down for a nap. Put sheets etc into dryer and vacuumed. Made bed and another latte for myself. Wondered why I still felt so tired then remember I was on my 3rd decaf. 🤦‍♀️ Made big crunchy salad and finished it before dc woke up. 🤗 Ate two chocs from my secret stash. 🤫 Now trying to decide if we go out to do something or play here.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 01/05/2025 08:10

Morning all.

Treading water here too a bit.

Thanks @WinterFrogs my relative has picked up and no emergency dash to the other side of the world required - for now. It's very stressful!

I am not working today and our lovely cleaner is here so I plan to get into the garden. A very boring one though..... there is a yucky corner that is filled with detritus and rubble so I am going to clear it and then make a dash to the garden centre for some nice plants.

Hope everyone is well and Thanks to all.

Might make a smug soup also ..... the weather might be warm but for some reason I am thinking of good old Swedish split pea soup!

SpiritOfEdna · 01/05/2025 10:47

@WinterFrogs @mumofoneAlonebutokay SpiritDoggo did get her walk - there would be ructions if she didn't. She does draw a crowd when she goes for a swim because she usually has a ball with her and is chasing it - she looks like she is bobbing for apples. It can be a bit hairy when she is getting further away from you but she manages to come back - a couple of times I've thought I needed to go in after her.... we should (consistently) confiscate the ball before it gets dropped into the lake. Although my clever GNiece managed to lure her out yesterday with the promise of ANOTHER ball.

Not a busy work day today, so can Get Things Done as there are public May Day holidays everywhere so a work admin day for me.
Today

  • out tonight for a birthday doo so need to look clean and respectable. Need to find something to wear plus work out the logistics of picking up a gift, going to pilates, getting changed somewhere and then getting across town - do I drive, do I get taxis blah blah blah
  • hoover - sand everywhere after the beach yesterday
  • pension review sorted (to talk about the peanuts 😄)
  • hoover, sand sand sand
  • I've just fixed the batteries in a magnifying mirror and looked at the state of my eyebrows, oh dear #thehorror
  • dishwasher is fixed, so no dishes to do hurrah!!!!
  • walk SpiritDoggo
  • tidy desk
  • shredding!
That will be all for today, am in need of more caffeine, have good one, SoE
Aria999 · 01/05/2025 12:28

@Mumtobabyhavoc contractor 1 proposed damp proofing which involves putting a lot of mesh on the walls and adding French drains to guide the water to the existing sump pumps. Plus a dehumidifier. Contractor 2 proposed a machine that pumps the damp air outdoors and brings in dry air from upstairs. I then asked him about the damp proofing and he said he thought that might not even work because the issue is water in the air and the damp proofing is designed to prevent water on the ground which we don't actually have anyway.

SpringingIntoSummerLobelia · 01/05/2025 13:21

Hi again all!

@SpiritOfEdna your description of SpiritDoggo chasing the ball reminds me of years ago when we were walking in Richmond Park. A labrador went in after a swan (who flew off safely) and the poor owner leapt in after the dog and swam around calling it frantically while the labrador just excitedly swam in circles around her- just out of reach.

Gorgeously warm day here. DS1 has had a tough week so DH decided he would pick the Dcs up from school instead of them taking the bus and we will take them out to dinner. Bank holiday!

Hope everyone has a lovely morning/afternoon wherever you are!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/05/2025 16:51

Just popping in quickly. So far I'm ahead this morning. Woke up a touch before dc, so washed up and got a load of laundry on. 🤗
Ensured I made fully caffeinated 💡coffee and I'm finishing a latte. Put a tray of croissants in to bake (from frozen).
Folded and put some clothes away. Laid out clothes for baby.
Switched toys around and dc are well occupied atm. 😅 Have got a morning talk show on that I pvr. Taking baby to activity shortly. Had both dc at school yesterday and it nearly killed me.

Aria, benefit of the doubt first contractor is being proactive...alternatively, upselling needlessly.🧐

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 01/05/2025 17:52

🤭 @WinterFrogs she makes me laugh sometimes honestly. Shes still going to her current school and it's proving quite the commute! My left foot specifically is exhausted from pressing on the clutch, as I've got a manual. We're waiting on a special needs place for her, i don't expect we'll get one this academic year

The petrol station had one solitary Easter egg heavily discounted so I bought it for dd to have on the commute home, which took 90 mins - she covered herself and the car in chocolate - its everywhere!

Finally took some bags to the dump, and did the pile of washing up and one load of laundry.

@SpringingIntoSummerLobelia sorry to hear ds1 had a tough week - where will you go to eat? Glad your relative is doing better, can only imagine how stressful it is for you all xx

@SpiritOfEdna 😄 your dog sounds lovely, what breed is she? Funnily enough, I also have to vacuum due to sand - i got dd some kinetic sand and she's gotten it all over the carpet - luckily its an old one here that needs replacing

I'm definitely getting more done thanks to this thread x

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 01/05/2025 17:57

@WinterFrogs @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia what's a smug stew? 👀 x

@WinterFrogs @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia what's a smug stew? 👀 x

One of our lovely projecteers coined the phrase after someone ( possibly me) said they were feeling smug after using up some past-its-best veg in a soup, instead of binning it putting it in thr compost. And it kind of stuck!

OP posts:
Aria999 · 01/05/2025 19:36

Lol @Mumtobabyhavoc the decaf was by accident then?

haha re Easter egg in car @mumofoneAlonebutokay, that reminds me of when DS age 2 was given a banana in the supermarket and ate it on the way home in his pushchair. The phrase 'one-baby banana saturation experiment' was first used in our house at this time.

WinterFrogs · 01/05/2025 19:42

We have mud and kinetic sand in our house. All the grot! And a cat that sheds. We know how to party. The rubber brush and the hoover get a lot of use!
Pleased our lovely thread is helping you @mumofoneAlonebutokay Most of us aren't naturals but I think we've all noticed a bit of difference in our homes/organisational levels since we started. @SpringingIntoSummerLobelia totted up her changes once and it was quite impressive 👏
I try to be clutter free and minimalist, but I've not been minimalist in things I've said Yes to lately, so clutter is creeping, as it does when it's left to its own devices.

I've been dressing out of the clean laundry basket for a month or so. It's clean and folded, just not ironed or put away.
I need to rectify that, hopefully tomorrow 🙏

Happy sunny Thursday everyone!

Ps @Aria999 are you saying excel is worth having over google docs? Or just use one or or the other without mixing it up?

OP posts:
Aria999 · 01/05/2025 19:46

@WinterFrogs the second one.

They each have strengths and weaknesses. Overall I prefer Excel but that's partly because I am more used to it and partly because I use a lot of the higher end functionality.
