Thanks to @JoshLymanSwagger for the thread title.

Trump, Vance and Musk are building a bigly bridge across the Bering Strait...
...and creating a gaping chasm in the Atlantic.

Kind hearts are more than coronets, and simple faith than Norman blood.

Mooch said in today’s TRIP US podcast (recorded yesterday) that Republicans in Washington had told him 3 things need to happen to get this back on track:

  1. Zelensky needs to apologise/grovel on tv
  2. Starmer/Macron/Zelensky need to go to Trump and say how amazing the minerals deal is and how nobody but Trump could have negotiated such a magnificent deal
  3. The $300m in frozen Russian assets in Europe must be unfrozen and used to buy weapons from US defence companies to supply Ukraine. The plans for that money to be used to rebuild Ukraine are a no go.

Very depressing, but looks like phase 1 is under way.

I agree, can’t remember if it was them or someone else that suggested Zelenskyy give Trump a nice big shiny peace medal. The biggliest most unprecedented medal there ever was.

That presumes Trump has agency in this. I don't think he has. It's Vlads way, or the highway.

The comments on that post by Zelensky are beyond disgusting. I don't use X and had no idea people were really like that. What on earth goes on in their heads? It's horrific

It's part of the strategy to give the impression that your decency is somehow a minority view. Sort of psychic bullying.

No disrespect, but all of that bollocks assumes that Trump is somehow playing the part of a POTUS, which we all know he isn't. He's Putins man in the Whitehouse and there is no "divining" his intent.

In fact it's the language of an abused spouse trying to rationalise their abusers actions.

I was saying this to DH just now. How many times does Trump need to tell us he’s not on our side and smack us in the face before we take note.

"He loves me really .... could you just hold this ice pack while I pick my teeth up ? What was I saying ? Oh, yeah, he loves me. He really does. I just have to learn not to make him angry. But he loves me, he really does".

I agree. Scrotus will do nothing without Vlad's approval.

I understand why Zelenskyy made his 'apology' with his fingers crossed behind his back. Sometimes you have to swallow the nasty medicine to try to end the 'disease'. He's not a foolish man and he loves his country (unlike Scrotus/Vance). His pride plays no part in this (again, unlike Scrotus/Vance). I think Zelenskyy simply wants to get back to the bargaining table, for the good of the Ukrainian people.

I will hate to see it, hate to see Scrotus crow about another 'win'. But I will understand.

I agree, anyone who thinks Zelenskyy folded rather than swallowing his pride and doing what he thought might save his country is mistaken. He’s a stronger man than most.

@Igotjelly

Zelenskyy is a real mensch.

My Ds never calls people names (as a young person with Autism he's been on the receiving end of that too often. He makes an exception for Mr Vance: 'Cabbage-Patch Satan'. Proud, I am.

Trudeau is not mincing his words

https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3ljkub4fynu26

Trudeau: "They're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin- a lying, murderous, dictator. Make that make sense. Canadians are reasonable and we are polite. But we will not back down from a fight...Canada will be implementing 25% tariffs against $155b of American goods."

CaveMum · 04/03/2025 17:44

Oh I totally agree that Zelensky is just doing what “has” to be done. But like we’ve said before, this is all hugely damaging for US soft power: no one will trust them going forward, they could put a saint in the White House but everyone will still ve thinking “But the next guy might backtrack”.

So sad, bigly.

Doing my impression of a shareholder in TRIP again, but this week’s TRIP Leading is worth listening to - interviews (separately) with Chrystia Freeland and Mark Carney. Both equally impressive and pointing out that Trump’s attitude towards Canada has rallied the country and probably guaranteed a win for the Liberals in the upcoming election.

Chrystia’s brief story about Putin stroking her stomach whilst heavily pregnant should come with a 🤮 warning though <shudders>

We still have to avenge Dawn Sturgess' death, by the way. By which I mean bring the culprits to justice.

A few years back I was bought to tears to read that after the fall of Libya, the Met Police were on the next flight to continue searching for the person who killed WPC Yvonne Fletcher.

Remember Trump doesn't care. As long as he gets rich and is safe from consequences the US really can go to hell.

I'm wondering if he is nursing some sort of insecurity complex and is "wreaking his revengay" on the entire country to punish them for laughing at him 40 years ago. Any halfway decent handler would have spotted that a mile off and realised they had the perfect vehicle to smuggle weapons grade narcissism and psychopathy into the Whitehouse in plain sight.

I'm old enough to remember how Idi Amin managed to run Uganda into the ground. And they still haven't recovered. (And he was a big fan of expelling "illegals" as my school found out in 1972 with some new arrivals in my class).

Honestly, I think it can be summed up in two words: Daddy. Issues.

It’s all about striving for daddy’s approval. Same applies to Elon - when that video of his dad saying (I paraphrase) “We never thought he’d amount to much” surfaced, it all clicked into place.

Ooh on Truth social. He’s called Trudeau governor - as in governor of a state and not Prime Minister of a separate country!
