Myrtle, good news re getting a definitive diagnosis. I hope your condition is manageable. 🩷
Sue, too bad you couldn't find out about the one pup sibling. I hope you find a pup that fills the void. 🩷
If I come across an old pic of mine I'll share.
Death, glasses are just as expensive here. Do you have coverage?
@PumpkinPatchScarecrow lovely pics 😍

Spent some time with Havoc at the park. We may have found a new playmate. A child was there with the grandmother who does care 3x a week. We exchanged contact info.

MyrtleLion · 28/02/2025 09:44

Our car insurance is up for renewal in three weeks. The first email is from a comparison site and I complete all the details and the cheapest reasonable quote is under £350. This is about £175 cheaper than last year's premium so I buy it.

The next day I get an email from our current insurer. The premium is £50 cheaper than last year, but hey, I've already bought the insurance. I try to cancel the automatic renewal. I have to call which I am not going to do. I find an online contact link.

I am then taken on a 10 minute questionnaire where I have to give the details of my new insurer - I should have just said £350 from Insurers are Us or something but I am an obedient woman. Then they offer me their range of policies. Just for fun I click on the basic version which is still more than I've paid. Then I have to press continue as if I want to buy this policy which is scary because if I press Exit I will end up renewing.

Eventually they offer me their best deal which is £425 and I have to press the "No I definitely want to cancel" button. Then I have to press the "I still want to cancel" button. Finally, with warnings about losing my insurance and I won't be insured, I can finally press the "I am positively definitely cancelling and I know this makes me as bad as a very bad person can be but yes I definitely don't want your very expensive insurance" button.

I need a cup of tea.

Why do they make it so hard?!

Coverage? NO. Just have to put up and shut up I guess!

This time though I shall be a very good, well behaved grown up and put them back in their case and not wake up with them having fallen off the bed or found I had slept on them! I will keep a pair in my bag and a pair at work.

Ahsheeit · 28/02/2025 11:17

Morning. A day off work today, and the sun is shining in the Peak District for a change.

I've an appointment with a consultant later to check out my eroded septum, caused by some cream prescribed for nasal impetigo that contained hydrogen peroxide. It's gone nearly all the way through. Waiting to be asked how much cocaine I use, which is zero and always has been as the injury is typical of that.

May get a nose job to repair, will tell them the bit they can use as a graft which will give me a more streamlined nose. 😉

That sounds horrendous. Was there a warning that it might destroy parts of your body?

Ahsheeit · 28/02/2025 11:46

Nope, nothing. The pharmacist was horrified. Reported to the yellow card scheme. Pharmacist refuses to dispense or prescribe the cream at all now. After my appointment today, I'll be asking the manufacturers to pay my insurance co-pay, as it should state on the leaflet not to use on mucous membranes.

MyrtleLion · 28/02/2025 13:46

I completely agree. You have my sympathies. I hope the appointment goes well.

MissConductUS · 28/02/2025 16:30

Welcome, @PumpkinPatchScarecrow, and thanks for sharing your gardening news. I do most of my gardening on our second story deck, as the deer will eat almost anything within reach. I'm in an area of New York called the Hudson Highlands. I can't normally start any new plants until April or May.

Sue, I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your pup in December. Our cats are quite elderly and I'm not looking forward to their medical decline. One of them, the orange/ginger boy, just has a checkup and is losing weight.

It has not been a good week for me. I woke up on Tuesday with pain in my right maxillary sinus. It's never drained well, and I get an infection there almost every winter. So I booked an appointment with my Nurse Practitioner for Wednesday afternoon, knowing I'd need antibiotics. Wednesday morning, I woke up with cold or flu like symptoms - coughing, headache, stuffy sinuses, etc. So I took my temp with an old Exergen temporal thermometer. It showed my temp as below normal, so I thought it must be just a cold.

They took my temp at the doctors office, and it was 38.3 C, so I was running a fever. They swabbed my nostrils for an in office test and confirmed that I have influenza A. I left with scripts for Augmentin and tamiflu and have been home sick ever since. The tamiflu is helping a lot. I binned the old thermometer and got a new one from Amazon that does tympanic readings, which I find easier and are more accurate. I was still running a fever yesterday, but none today so far.

The painter is here finishing up, and a bloke from the town building department came out to inspect the gas hookup for the stove.

As I was leaving Wednesday morning to go to work, I spotted four large turkey toms in the front yard. They then approached the front door like a gang of Nottingham knockers. I hope I didn't infect anyone at work on Wednesday.

Miss, sorry to hear you have the flu! Is a swab and a script for Tami flu standard?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/02/2025 16:42

btw looks like our winter is done. Found these yesterday!!! Much more reliable than a groundhog! 😂

Yes, the swab they do in office tests for flu, covid and RSV. If you have the flu and came down with it in the last 48-72 hours, they Rx the antiviral.

Been AWOL a bit, as teenager is being very ... teenagery, plus other stuff. He's chosen to live with his father who has few rules in the house, although not quite none. I can't stay up each night until 2 in the morning arguing with him that it's bedtime and then he refuses to get up in the morning and go to school. He has an autistic support worker, who is worth his weight in diamonds, who thinks that my teen is trying to be boss in this house.

Youngest is still a delight, if much too bright. We were having a lively discussion in the car the other day and he turned to look at me and said with a mischievious gleam in his eye " Mama, you know I'm much brighter than you, so I'm right". Couldn't stop laughing long enough to say "old age and experience will beat youth and beauty every time". I'll save that for later.

Loving the slightly warmer weather and at last, sunny skies and bright light.

IWanderedLonely · 01/03/2025 08:52

Hello Ahsheeit I'm in the Peak District too. The sunshine is very welcome.
We're off to an ice-cream and petting farm this morning with DD1 & grandchildren, should be nice in the sun.
Hope you're soon feeling better Miss

LollyWillow · 01/03/2025 10:16

I'm excited to have found this thread. Do you mind if I join?
I'm drinking coffee and building myself up to installing a new rotary clothes line. This is particularly thrilling as the sun is coming out and I will be able hang washing on it later. In the actual outdoors. In almost spring.

Ahsheeit · 01/03/2025 10:30

Good morning all. Thank you all for the welcome. @MissConductUS , it looks beautiful where you are. I do hope you feel better soon.

The sun is shining again today, so a little amble out will happen.

I've been given an antibiotic cream to use for 3 weeks, as there's a fairly deep seated infection. Bloods done too. Will see the consultant again in 3 weeks.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 01/03/2025 11:30

Finally managed to swim again after a week a bit under the weather - such a relief to go again. Lots of people were dressed up for Carnival =) it's a huge thing in the S of the Netherlands.

There was also a lady on a special bike that had one front wheel and then a tread mill band, and two wheels at the back. She kept walking and the bike kept moving on as she walked. Only in the Netherlands !

Hello everyone and welcome to all the new posters! Sorry been awol myself as MS has been making my legs very cross and uncooperative this week. DD been off for half term as well so I’ve not been able to rest very much, although we have had some respite in place for her. She’s picked up a cold from somewhere too now so is feeling a bit sorry for herself today I think. I am having some tea and biscuits to gear up for the inevitable frayed temper in her later 😬.
Happy St David’s Day to you all! 🌼 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. For our non uk posters, he is the patron saint of Wales and March 1st we celebrate, you can wear a daffodil
(some men wear leeks)and there are many traditional celebrations with singing and folk dancing. When I was little you used to wear a traditional Welsh costume to school.

MyrtleLion · 01/03/2025 13:31

On a train home from London. Previous train was late so missed a connection. But it's a lovely sunny day and there were purple crocuses out yesterday.

DandyDandylion · 01/03/2025 14:58

We are in the middle of a lovely bright sunny period weather wise. There also seem to be all sorts of lovely flowers popping up everywhere. The weeds are also starting to grow between slabs on the patio but will ignore them for now.

HildaTablet · 01/03/2025 15:02

Havoc, snap! Our primroses are coming out, too - but they’re in more sheltered spots in the garden.

Ducky, my sympathies re your teen. It's definitely a little knife to the heart at times. Strength. 🩷
Iwandered, I'd love to visit an ice-cream farm! 😛
@LollyWillow do restrain yourself! 😱
(Welcome)😁
@Ahsheeit apt name! No words re the eroded septum. Were you directed to use it in the manner that caused the injury?

Hilda, lovely pics. 😍

Was up til well after midnight glued to tv watching political news and scrolling/posting on some MN threads re same. I despair. 😔

Took dc sledding yesterday. The snow has become rather slushy and is muddy in places where it has melted right down. DC and I sledded a bit, played a lot and I managed some pics.

Had a lovely time at the farm, had oatcakes stuffed with cheese and bacon (though they were Staffordshire oatcakes & as a Derbyshire lass I think Derbyshire ones are far superiorGrin) ice cream for pudding - I had kirsch cherry, DH had rum & raisin, grandchildren had strawberry, chocolate & cotton candy. DD has sensitive teeth and skipped the ice cream. Fed the goats and ducks and met the cows. Sadly no lambs yet.
