Havoc ...I have one of those UV umbrellas as well .
But I think my destination is going to be too crowded to be able to use it properly.

Don't go anywhere without a hat !!

I think I need to go out walking in this heat we have got coming next week to acclimatise my self to it !! 😀😀

bizzey · 16/06/2025 01:05

Don't really want to use my phone as my camera .

So on a hunt now for little digital one !

Seen some ...now also got to understand what MP means !

Well ...I get the jist of MP ...but the camera is the same price ...so that makes choosing the MP harder !!

bizzey · 16/06/2025 01:13

Ohhh and " over glasses " sun glasses is also on my list !!

I have reactive glasses ...but they don't go dark enough for some things .

Don't really want new glasses .

So I saw they make them now that just go over your normal glasses !!

Been so long since I have had proper big sunglasses ...I can't remember what style looks good on me ( for all my photo selfies and shots 😀🤣🤣!!)

mathanxiety · 16/06/2025 02:24

I checked the sunscreen I was using at the start of the summer to see if it had expired, and I'm very glad I did, because it almost qualified as a vintage bottle of Banana Boat sunscreen. I'm now the proud owner of a new sunscreen, 70spf, that expires in two years.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/06/2025 02:31

What is it about hunger + fatigue that causes me to come home with things like Oreos x Selena Gomez and rainbow cake with marshmallow fluff icing? 🤔

Hunger and fatigue would make me come home with a massive Macdonald's 🤣!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/06/2025 14:51

Had a lovely "last day of school" day with dc yesterday.
We listened to one of our favourite school run songs on the drive, took pics of them together out front (so cute!) then one of the 3 of us, after school took dc for sushi (both ate Cali rolls!) then to the Aquarium. Managed a Costco shop on the way home.
Got some bad news while out for lunch though. A dear cousin is in hospital receiving end of life care. It's cancer; not unexpected; but has happened much sooner that I thought. Fuck.

MissConductUS · 17/06/2025 14:58

Math, I just ordered new sunscreen because I'm almost out. My dermatology NP recommends Blue Lizard SPF 50 so that's what I put on every morning. I'm really diligent about it because I've had two skin cancers removed in the last few years.

Havoc, I think when you're fatigued, your body craves sugary foods as a quick energy source.

To celebrate Father's Day we went strawberry picking again. I think that strawberry season is about over now. Blueberries and cherries will be next. DD sent DH some chocolate covered roasted almonds from Harrods and a card from Saint Paul's Cathedral. DH attended church there when he lived in London. He's also very fond of Harrods. His flat was a quick walk from there and he used to get his haircut there.

On Sunday, we saw sheep and a raven in a farm vehicle. The turtles were back out yesterday.

I've been unwell with asthma since sleeping on feather pillows during my holiday. My GP has prescribed steroids, so hopefully I will recover soon.

I've been knitting for Wolly Hugs for another thread I'm on and finally produced a square.

HildaTablet · 17/06/2025 18:46

I’ve spent some calming time picking the bumper crop of redcurrants we’ve got this year. No idea why so many, except that I cut the bush back really quite severely last autumn and I think it must have liked it. Anyway, miraculously the birds haven’t eaten the whole crop, and they’re so beautiful - like strings of shiny red jewels among the leaves.

The classic thing to make would be a summer pudding, but there was enough fruit to cook down and turn into redcurrant jelly. It made four jars and will be really good with roast lamb.

Spent a lovely couple of hours chopping up carrots, celery and onions into mirepoix for the freezer, whilst watching a series on Netflix. It’s very satisfying and very peaceful. My daughter gets back tonight from Lisbon, yay. She’s bringing back some pastel nata, lovely.
Had another lovely video chat with my grandsons last night. They will be here in 15 days. I was saying that I need to find a cleaner and the younger one said, “Don’t bother Granny, we’ll help you when we get there.” Little loves. We’ve been planning lots of activities for when they get here. I’m getting excited and counting down the days!
@MyrtleLion hope your asthma is improving.
I’ve never had fresh redcurrants @HildaTablet . They do look like little jewels.
@Mumtobabyhavoc hope baby’s chin is mending. It’s a horrible feeling when your child gets hurt.

sproutsandparsnips · 17/06/2025 23:05

mathanxiety · 19/06/2025 18:10

Sad news indeed, havoc.

I have the day off for June teeth, and spent the morning cleaning off my deck after a stormy night last night. Some of my seedlings have been washed out of their pots. I'll start again with a packet of thyme and one of jalapeño peppers (I bought too many seed packets earlier in the year) and find a spot on the deck for them that doesn't catch a deluge from the deck upstairs whenever it rains.

We are expecting really hot weather this weekend according to DD. I'm going to spend the afternoon cleaning the AC units.

HildaTablet · 19/06/2025 18:25

I completely overlooked the latter part of your post, @Mumtobabyhavoc - so sorry to hear that ❤️

MyrtleLion · 19/06/2025 19:37

Sorry to hear the bad news, havoc. Sending love 💐

Took the car in for an MOT today. Air-conditioning in the garage, but no WiFi. I had downloaded some documents to my iPad to read through for my online job interview tomorrow but they hadn't downloaded properly. It was fine in the end.

Car passed and I put on the silver cover when I got home, so DH has a cool car in the morning.

Deathraystare · 19/06/2025 21:33

Ever wondered when you use the check out machines in the supermarket and put through things you did not buy there. Of course you haven`because you are not stu[pid enough to do so!

So I did it for you!

Scanned a bottle of sparkling water and it scanned, oh yes. But it was very unhappy and blabbed to the store assistant!1 Who gently explained that I had purchased it in Sainsburys. I also took some Sainsburys brussel sprouts out of the Sainsburys bag while he was standing there and attempted to scan them too!

Today I was travelling a couple of hours in the heat. Two tubes, 2 buses to view a room. THe outcome is I am second in line. Who wants to be second??!!
Bloody hot day, I got there early and had to sit on hot concrete while I waited for the lettings guy to be late and then not have the right keys. (this happens a lot) and another guy came about 10 minutes later. I get lettings is not as exciting or prestigious as luxury flats for sale but everyone gotta live somewhere. Just grateful it wasn't snowing! Though I am very bad in the heat. Some of the other tenants asked me if I wanted to go inside but I said I had better wait for the lettings guy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/06/2025 07:54

Oh, Death... I think you've got too much on your mind to think straight. Where are you staying? I was worried when you said you had been sleeping at work. I didn't realize you had lost your shared flat. Are you okay? What about the work situation. Did you appeal the termination?

I took the dc with me to wash and clean out the car this evening then for a drive. We ended up catching the last bit of the sunset and Vegan Night Market at Locarno Beach. Havoc was hungry so I bought a spinach pie which was eaten happily. I was quite impressed because I tasted it and it had a bit of spice to it. It was sort of like a samosa, but not as thick.

That night market sounds wonderful! @Mumtobabyhavoc! Sorry to hear your sad news.

Have a few more viewings on Monday so fingers and toes crossed!

There are always about 4 other people there with me.

PollyCreo · 20/06/2025 15:30

I've got one and I couldn't share this in real life 😏

I was in hospital last week and the woman in the next bed to me was....my identical foot twin! 😱🤯😂🦶

MissConductUS · 20/06/2025 16:31

Havoc, so sorry to hear about your cousin.

Hilda, redcurrents are out here too. They had them at the farm store when we picked strawberries, but I didn't get any.

Math, it's been really hot here too. We had the air con system serviced a few weeks ago, just in time. It's supposed to hit 100F here next week (about 38C I think).

Good luck in your housing search, Deathray.

Polly, did you swap shoes with her? 😂

Happy first day of summer, everyone! It's been so hot here that my prickly pear cactus has started to flower. That usually doesn't happen until July. I'll post some pictures later.

On the last day of my steroids and suddenly I can breathe!

It’s only when I can breathe easily that I realise how hard it is to manage.

Also had a great interview and hope to hear more at the beginning of July.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/06/2025 08:10

Myrtle, glad to hear you've got relief from the medication. It reminded me to take an antihistamine for my perpetually running nose. 🙄 The cottonwood seems to have settled, but clearly something else is triggering a reaction in my eyes (itchy!) and sinuses. I may have to re-visit the ENT and discuss fixing my deviated septum. I thought I could live with it, but my allergies seem to be worse and it's very annoying to have a runny nose so frequently.
I've got all the windows open and the sound of the rain is quite nice and soothing. It's 13c, so a bit cooler than normal according to the weather app.

mathanxiety · 22/06/2025 04:49

Ooof, what a hot day we've had. I turned on the AC when DD and I couldn't stand it any more. It was windy outside and I had to tie my tomato plant to the railings of the deck after it got blown over twice. The heatwave is set to last til Tuesday.

MissConductUS · 22/06/2025 16:36

Great news on both fronts, Myrtle . I'm about three months away from my retirement date and have started looking into volunteer work options, possibly with the local SPCA.

Math, we've had some rain this morning, so it's not that hot yet, but this afternoon and next week are supposed to be scorching.

Havoc, I had a deviated septum repaired decades ago. The surgery isn't great, and it didn't seem to do much good. Perhaps techniques have improved.

DH and DS have gone to a New York Yankees baseball game today, so it's just me and the cats at home. The train to the stadium was standing room only. They'll be exhausted from the heat when they get home tonight.

Here are the promised cactus pictures, along with one of the Hydrangeas. We had a visit from two does this morning as well.

Miss, when I had the consult several years ago I didn't want to risk it as it's not guaranteed to fix the issue. The narrow side is always clogged and the wide side runs. 🤦‍♀️ My allergies make me prone to sinus infections due to frequent inflammation on the narrow side. 🤷‍♀️

Took dc to a bbq and beach party in W Van last night for National Indigenous People Day. Walked around and window shopped a bit later. Kids were well tired and fell asleep on the drive home.
