@MyrtleLion

That Notre Dame is great!

Well of course I have not been as energetic as the rest of you (not even close!). I did however fall out of bed. Sadly on my own and no shenanigans! I was reaching for something that had fallen to the floor thinking I could reach it. I kind of knew I would fall out but I really hit the floor hard on my left kneecap (always painful cos of arthritis) and somehow smashed myself on the right eye. I was wearing glasses and of course the lens came out. Cannot find it now so I am wearing some rather blurry glasses. All I know is this week on payday it is off to the Opticians to order some new ones. It is about time really but I have been putting it off. I am using readers at the moment so it would be good to have some proper ones even though they are a lot of money. I know Specsavers do 2 for 1 but it still works out a lot!!

MyrtleLion · 18/02/2025 15:38

That sounds painful, Deathraystare!

I am resisting opening the bookmark box "for a look" as I will make a start if I do.

I made scented candles and wax melts instead. Now chilling watching a romcom.

sueelleker · 18/02/2025 17:57

Deathraystare; how long have you had the frames? If they're in good condition, Specsavers might re-glaze them instead of you having to buy new ones.

sproutsandparsnips · 18/02/2025 21:46

@Deathraystare that is annoying. My new supply of contact lenses have not arrived and when I phoned there is a delay. I do have glasses but I need new ones for reading so this is annoying.
@MyrtleLion two girls from my school as a teenager were on that Lockerbie flight, so tragic.
@MissConductUS those turkeys are amazing and the new kitchen is very stylish!
@Mumtobabyhavoc did I spot Welshcakes on the last thread?
@DandyDandylion I think i missed where you are to see that interesting wildlife?
I am working a lot of hours this week so just trying to keep up.
I have just sat down to catch up with Call the Midwife only to find it wasn't on this week. Very disappointing!

MyrtleLion · 18/02/2025 21:53

I'm so sorry @sproutsandparsnips.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/02/2025 00:27

Sprouts, it was s'mores, not Welsh cakes. It was a spontaneous treat when Havoc should've been in bed last night.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2025 02:22

We had an extremely cold day here, with morning wind chills below zero Fahrenheit. My car really didn't want to get going, and neither did I tbh. But we both had to, so we did. Coming home from work, the temperature had risen to a balmy 16 degrees F. It really felt much better even though it was still frostbite weather.

I burned two beets I put on to boil this evening - sat on the couch, turned on the news, wondered after a while what the funny smell was, and then DD asked if I had left something on the stove. It's all out in the porch now and probably cooled. I'll check the beets in a while and soak the pot overnight.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 19/02/2025 08:04

Havoc I think sprouts is referring to the last pic on the previous thread, which I have to agree look very similar to welshcakes. Made me think now that I should go and get some today 😊

MyrtleLion · 19/02/2025 10:09

I managed to blacken my wax melt burner yesterday. I was using up the tea lights I made some time ago from paraffin wax and they burn very hot at the end. The wax itself burns and had to be put out. As the burner has visible but thin cracks in the glaze, I decided to get rid of it and buy a new one. Fortunately the melts and candles I made yesterday are made with coconut wax. It has a higher melt temperature and burns more slowly than paraffin.

I’m currently airborne, likely over New Jersey. They’re coming around with coffee. It’s about 2.5 hours to Orlando.

Have a safe flight/trip Miss 😊

LoudPlumDog · 19/02/2025 14:47

I slept the whole day away.

MissConductUS · 19/02/2025 15:47

Welcome, @LoudPlumDog, and thanks for sharing your restful news. I wish I could say the same. I had to leave for the airport at 6:00 AM.

We’re descending, so landing soon. There’s a baby crying a few rows away, but that’s okay. There’s been a lot of turbulence on this flight.

I have nothing to do until dinner, so after I unpack I'm off to the pool. The temperature is 27C. It's a bit cloudy, but warm enough to swim,

MissC ..is it the same hotel as last year ?

DandyDandylion · 19/02/2025 19:20

We are at Woburn Center Parcs Sprouts and the wildlife has been a pleasant surprise. We have been to the one in the Lake District before and always enjoy seeing the red squirrels there. Today a muntjac came to our patio and looked in at me. I went and got the monkey nuts and opened the door to throw some out. It just waited patiently so there are clearly very tame.
I like the look of that hotel MissC hope you are enjoying your time there. Just what you need after all the kitchen upheaval.
Welsh cakes, hmmmm, mind you I just had churros with chocolate dip. Also had prawn fajitas which were fabulous.

MissConductUS · 19/02/2025 19:51

Bizzey, it's a different one but close to last year's and also a Marriott. It's quite comparable. I think the pool was a bit bigger in the old one. It's just so lovely to sit outside in the warmth.

You're quite right, Dandy, it's a nice break from the kitchen upheaval.

It looks lovely. Can you say where you are? I may have missed it.

I’m in Orlando at a resort at Disney World for a work related meeting.

God @MissConductUS , you are certainly not dull or boring, work meetings in Disney...i am so jealous...
My day has been lying on the couch feeling unwell. Thats all.

ssd · 19/02/2025 20:22

And your new kitchen is really nice

Mumtobabyhavoc · 19/02/2025 20:27

Miss, I might try my own version: put on bathing suit and sunglasses, crank up the heat and lie on the couch. 😁

MissConductUS · 19/02/2025 21:22

Welcome, @ssd, and thanks for joining the thread. My life isn’t usually this exciting. I’m really pleased with how the kitchen came out, but it’s nice to have someone agree with me. I definitely recognize your handle/ username but I don’t know if it’s just because we’ve both been here for a few years or if we were on the same thread or series of threads. I’m a bit of a geek, so when I see your handle, I think “solid state drive”. I’m sorry you’re feeling poorly.

havoc, that sounds like a good idea. I had to come inside as it started raining. Fortunately, there was a gelato bar in the hotel lobby, so I had a scoop of coconut and a scoop of chocolate gelato.🍧

Made a BBC recipe Peri-peri chicken for tea tonight. It was very nice but the marinade was a bit too thick, if I do it again I'll use more oil to soften it.

mathanxiety · 19/02/2025 21:58

The weather in Florida is about 90 degrees F hotter than it is in Illinois today. That pool looks so good, and the green trees... sigh...
