Welcome, @LollyWillow, and thanks for sharing your laundry news. Have you installed the rotary clothes line? I wish it was more spring like here. Fortunately, like most Americans, I have a tumble dryer.

Apologies for taking a bit of time to welcome you, but I am getting over the flu. The Tamiflu has been a big help, though. My fever resolved today. I'm still tired and have a bit of a headache. I'd forgotten how miserable the flu is. Thank goodness I had the jab last fall.

Hilda, your flowers are lovely. I wish spring were that close here.

Glad you’re feeling a bit better, MissC. I’m impressed that you’re actually diagnosed and prescribed something effective for flu. Over here the advice is to sweat it out by yourself (literally) and not bother the GP. The idea of actually being given anything to combat it is novel for us! I’ve heard of Tamiflu but I’ve never known of anyone to be given it.

It looks as though we’re in for a spell of lovely spring weather. Full sun and quite reasonable temps predicted for the next week. I must get busy in the garden, there’s so much to do. There was the most beautiful sky last night….but I didn’t get any photos, sorry! 🥴

MissConductUS · 02/03/2025 09:58

Hilda, I'm a bit shocked that you're told not to bother the GP if you have flu. Flu kills thousands of people every year. And Tamiflu is off patent, and available as a generic,so it's cheap as chips. It's highly effective as well if taken within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. The flu is really unpleasant, and could easily keep you off work for a week.

There are times I'm quite glad I have healthcare under our system instead of the NHS. Some of the things they do to save a tiny bit of money make no sense to me.

Sorry to hear about your flu @MissConductUS and glad that you are on the mend.
Well, the rotary drier is up, and three loads of laundry are out. I think I may be being overly optimistic as, although it is sunny, it is still very cold here, so I may have to bring them in to actually dry. It doesn't matter, I find the sight of laundry in the open air cheering, and that's the important thing.

Havoc, snap! Our primroses are coming out, too - but they’re in more sheltered spots in the garden.

Love primmies! Sad I no longer have a garden.

Deathraystare · 02/03/2025 12:01

Well that was fun. Did the walk of shame out of a supermarket as card declined. I had worried that it would as not been paid this week. My boss if off and things were not done. Luckily I have enough instant packet soups, rice, crispbread and some spinach and some Russian salad. Spinach being the only fresh thing but not long to go until next Thursday (pay day) but at this rate I will not get my new glasses until CHristmas!!! Will look to see about online prescriptions but doubt they will do all I need for that.

Went to see a version of Macbeth at the theatre but it was a bit meh. Two of my friends left halfway through. My other friend and I stayed to the end. What was worse was there were bagpipes playing. I hate bagpipes! Sorry to anyone Scottish. Funnily enough, I have heard other bagpipes (from the Balkans) and the tone is completely different and not so nails scraping down a board. By the way I tried to play with a ?Chanter/canter??? this is what you play before you learn the bagpipes. Not one note!

Delurking. I have enjoyed reading these threads previously, especially when I can't face the news. DH is doing the ironing and I am going to Aldi shortly. I had to have the end crust of the bread toasted with a fried egg on it for breakfast. I had been looking forward to crumpets with scrambled eggs but the children have taken to eating them and not telling me when they have run out.

MissConductUS · 02/03/2025 13:07

Welcome, @fruitpastille, and thanks for sharing your news and delurking. I had poached eggs on something quite similar to crumpets. We call them English Muffins.

I'm about to leave for early (8:30 AM) church services.

How old are your crumpet thieves children?

OP posts:
sueelleker · 02/03/2025 14:10

MissConductUS; I wouldn't say English muffins were much like crumpets. The only similarity is that they're both made with yeast. A muffin is like bread dough, rolled out and cut into rounds. Crumpets are made from a soft batter, and poured into ring moulds; they're both cooked in a griddle pan though. https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=ab98d3f3ddfcfa4052cb7b306a26aa5a688033b7579d4c4ef753108413be73f8JmltdHM9MTc0MDg3MzYwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=2d893548-eb46-63fa-1a7f-207eef4661c5&psq=crumpets+and+muffins&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubWFzdGVyY2xhc3MuY29tL2FydGljbGVzL2NydW1wZXQtdnMtZW5nbGlzaC1tdWZmaW4&ntb=1

bizzey · 02/03/2025 15:07

Crumpets have wonderful holes in them for all the lovely melted butter to melt through all down your finger 🤤🤤😆😂!

Muffins are more refined and contain the butter within its lovely fluffy folds of squishy butterness 🤤🤤😆😂!

I love them both ! 😂.

off now to change the shopping delivery due to unforeseen and forgotten memories!!

bizzey · 02/03/2025 15:14

😂😂..
Lovely catch ups.

Hello newbies 👋👋..

@Ahsheeit ....I can't believe your septum disappeared 😲😲!

That is shocking.

My ds has had nasal impetigo when he was younger.

Got given cream by doctor .

Got home ...used it on my nut allergy ds !
Then I read the leaflet...
Yep ...do not use if you have. Nut allergy as it contains peanuts!! 😲😲.. (well peanut oil )

Did it disappear over time ?
Sorry ..
Just so shocked that these things can happen .

bizzey · 02/03/2025 15:20

I am desperately trying to organise and downsize at the moment.

It's been tough as I am a bit of a hoarder and always a ...ohh I might come in useful/ be needed !! 😂....

I was given some wonderful advice on this thread some years ago when I had a big task I need to do ,, that I have never forgotten.

Baby steps !!

Thank you @Mumtobabyhavoc 🥰 ...I am still listening ou you x

Instead of getting overwhelmed with what I have to do ...I have found a charity doorstop collection that I can book once or twice a month .

It means I can do little bits at a time instead of trying to do loads in one go .

bizzey · 02/03/2025 15:23

Really struggling to know what to do with the boys " art work " though 😂😂..

I took some photos...put them in the bag bag of doom ...then ds3 was saying ...ohhh no you can't get rid of that 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️!!

LollyWillow · 02/03/2025 15:36

My crumpet thief is 28.
I like poached or scrambled egg on English muffins, but I make French toast with crumpets as I like the way the egg soaks into the holes.

I'm slowly decluttering and reorganising @bizzey. I find the doorstep collections really useful as they don't ask for details when you book and so there is no pressure to rush. I book a few weeks in advance and there may be one bag of clothes, there may be six, but I don't have to stress about it.

LollyWillow · 02/03/2025 15:40

My niece just sent me some photos of her trying on her wedding dress. Her mother, my sister-in-law, died 15 years ago at the end of this month and, honestly, I could burst with pride and happiness at how well her girls have done and how lovely my niece looks in her dress.

MyrtleLion · 02/03/2025 15:47

I have put on a cashmere sweater that shrunk in the wash and though it's a tiny bit shorter, it's wearable and now it's much fluffier.

Welcome and love to new people and love to hoarders and card declineds and washing hanger-outers.

fruitpastille · 02/03/2025 16:24

I am now fully restocked on crumpets. The thieves are 2 older teens and a tween. I have also found frozen ready to bake cinnamon swirls in aldi to distract them. I'm forcing them to come to walk the dog but eldest is protesting he needs to revise and middle one has already walked the dog this morning.

I love a good declutter. We went through the kallax units we have full of toys and dressing up things last week and got rid of loads. I like the empty boxes but it is a bit sad they aren't needed any more.

Itisallgoingtobeok · 02/03/2025 16:29

Hello, I've lurked here for a long time. May I join in?

I've made carrot soup. It is the first time I have made this recipe and it has a slightly concerning texture, but it will keep body and soul together.

bizzey · 02/03/2025 16:59

I would love to make soup !!
Sounds silly really !!
But overtime I have tried it ..it has been a disaster 😞😂...
And yet everyone says ...soup is so easy to make. 😂....

MissConductUS · 02/03/2025 17:12

Welcome, @Itisallgoingtobeok, of course you can join, everyone is welcome! And thanks for sharing your soup news.

@fruitpastille, I don’t know if you followed the previous thread, but I did a huge kitchen declutterring two months ago in preparation for my kitchen remodeling.

OP posts:
fruitpastille · 02/03/2025 17:47

@bizzey I only really make one soup (leek and potato) but it's nice. Delia Smith. I prefer it made with a chicken stock (cube) and sometimes I add a little garlic and tarragon.

There are a lot of dodgy soup recipes out there. I have 5 or 6 go to soups I have narrowed down as being fail safe!

Ahsheeit · 02/03/2025 18:53

I love the conversationness of this thread. 😊

Went for a wander down to Tesco and Aldi, but the world and his wife were out in force today, particularly space invaders. Didn't help that my hip is slightly out so was hurting. (Note to self - do your physio regularly, you Muppet).

For those septum followers, the cream was used as directed, but didn't have warnings on the info leaflet about not using it up yer schnozzle.

Have spent the rest of the day reading, with a brief move to hoover and dust my bedroom as I was a bit wheezy this morning. Frozen pasta bake is in t'oven, and I'm going to chill on the sofa with the cat until it's ready.

DandyDandylion · 02/03/2025 19:11

It’s the old adage Bizzey, how to eat an elephant, one bite at a time. We have a local charity jumble sale twice a year so I always have a box to save things in and drop them off on the day.
We used a coupon to have a free family day at a national trust gardens. The person who lived there originally had travelled the earth gathering plants and fossils. He was religious but struggled with the bible 7 day story and the evolution he could see in his discoveries. He put together a gallery in a long thin room with days one to five represented by the fossils in date order. Fascinating to see.
