I barely survived online reg for dc's swim lessons. Why is it so difficult to do????!!!! Why were lessons full when reg just opened?
I missed the northern lights on the weekend. I checked before bed on Sun night, didn't see them, and forgot to check later. Some people got great pics, though.

I had a lovely hour yesterday with my bank. I received a message from them saying that they were withholding a payment to someone until I confirmed it wasn't a fraudulent transaction and gave me a number to ring. I ignored that number and looked up the fraud reporting number, after checking the 'scam' company online. Yes it was a scam and I was furious with myself for having fallen for it. The first payment was for a small amount, which is why I fell for it. I rang the bank and it was a lovely Scottish lady I first spoke to, she did have a strong accent and I was relieved when she put me through to someone else. This one had a Liverpudlian accent, but luckily not a strong one. He said the company involved in the scam was known to them, which is why it was flagged. He blocked it for me, thankfully, otherwise I could have been signed up for £60 a month for a subscription to nothing! Phew. He also cancelled my card, ordered a new one and got me to register my voice as a password. This slightly worried me as I had to repeat a phrase several times and I kept wondering if I had put on a different accent each time! Hopefully it works but I'll be much more diligent now about signing for anything. I usually do check things online as my OH works in online financial security!

I've had to curtail my online ordering more, as I have no cards yet. I started reading a book on my kindle the other day. I read a few pages every night in bed and I happened to read that the book I am reading is the second in a trilogy, d so I am desperate to get hold of the other 2, but will have to wait (very impatiently) for my new card to arrive!

Havoc, I looked for the northern lights, but I'm too far south to have seen them. It's a shame, they look amazing in the photos.

Uman, well done to your bank for stopping that transfer. I don't know if my bank would have been that vigilant. The credit card companies here are very vigilant about fraud because they have absorb those losses in most cases.

Our landscaper texted yesterday that he wanted to stop by to talk about the plans for the front garden redo. We had this meeting with him a month ago, so it was probably not a bad idea to go over it all again. He' going to remove the dead rhododendrons and a wild rose bush that's taking over one corner, plant four boxwood bushes for us, put down mulch and do a bit of grass seeding. I'm hopeful he'll do it all within the next week or so. He said he'd be there at 6:00 and showed up at 7:00, just as we sat down to eat dinner.

The weather has turned hot here, and the turtles are out, including the wee one in this picture.

Hello turtles! 😍

Umanresources · 05/06/2025 20:36

@MissConductUS I love those turtles!🐢

mathanxiety · 07/06/2025 02:50

Havoc I well remember the swimming lesson scramble, and many years later the summer school scramble, sitting at my desk refreshing my screen, ready with my debit card. Same madness for online booking of parent teacher conferences, which one year involved two schools, four DCs, 17 teachers between them at one point, three floors to navigate in one school, four in another. My plan that hectic year was to start on the highest floor and work my way down, leaving a maximum of 12 minutes between each six minute meeting, and this meant having to get early appointments to avoid being delayed by meetings that ran longer than they should have, which tended to happen as the evenings wore on.

We've had poor air quality here for the last few days because of wildfires in Manitoba, andbive had a scratchy throat. It's been warm too, and will be warmer next week. I always dread the coming of summer as I really dislike the humidity and the mosquitos.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/06/2025 05:04

Math, sounds like you had it down to a science! 👏
I've got Havoc in 3 activities and baby in 2. They both do swimming on the same day 90mins apart, so that should be ok.

I'm dreading the predicted hot summer, too. It's been about ten years now of regular wildfires and very hot dry summers. I hate it. I want to milder temps I grew up with. 😢

Bought a new coffee maker today. Just a basic drip one. It's Kitchen Aid and was on sale for $99.

MyrtleLion · 07/06/2025 11:54

Enjoying the sunshine and relaxation of my holiday but I've contracted a cold so I feel a bit miserable. But it's better here than in rainy England.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/06/2025 16:03

Myrtle, oh, I hate getting sick on holiday. It's happened to me many times. Hope it's not too bad for you. 🩷

MissConductUS · 09/06/2025 18:34

Math, the parent teacher conferences are the worst. Ours weren't really scheduled, the teachers had ten minute blocks of time and you just had to go through them in a certain order, along with a few other parents. It was chaos.

Havoc, well done on the coffee maker. KitchenAid makes really good kit. I have one of their blenders that's at least 20 years old and still going strong.

I hope you're feeling better, Myrtle. Are you still on holiday?

DD and SiL moved to a new apartment last week, and we got a tour via FaceTime last night. It's much nicer than their old place. They bought some new furniture from Ikea.

It rained most of the weekend here and is still raining today. I hope it stops soon so that our landscaper can finally get started on the front garden.

My roses are enjoying the rainy weather, and I saw a new turtle with red markings last Friday. I wish they showed up better in the picture. I'm going to have to prune that rosebush.

Still on holiday and feeling a little better. Flying back on Wednesday afternoon.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/06/2025 23:07

Myrtle, hope trip home goes well. Tip: sinus decongestant spray cough/cold medicine before boarding and cough lozenges for the flight. Safe trip home. 🩷
Miss, the one I had was DeLonghi and about 13 years old. Seems lime they only make higher end models now.

Busy weekend: Saturday was Hats Off Day in Burnaby and yesterday was Italian Day in Vancouver. Also managed Havoc's sport, a Costco shop and catching up on pvr'd programs (Belmont Stakes & Gooxd night and Good luck, the play w George Clooney was broadcasted by CNN). Took Havoc to Science World today for one on one time. It's been about 30c past few days. 🥵

Lucked out at Science World today. Managed free 2 hour street parking and a large school group was leaving when we arrived. 😅
Now eating a MN massive salad. It's nice and cold, so very refreshing. DC are napping. 🤗

Thanks for the turtle pics @MissConductUS

Havoc ..you are so sweet to even think of me !
I have literally come in this thread right now to give a very interesting update on my finger !! 😮😀...

The finger in question is my finger print ID finger in my phone ....

It is no longer working !!!

Fingerprint not recognised 😲.

Not a massive problem ..just got to remember my pin and stuff .

But ...I think my finger has lost all of its fingerprinting stuff 🤣🤣

bizzey · 10/06/2025 18:58

Havoc, Science world looks very impressive. Is that dark meat chicken in your massive salad? It looks delicious.

Bizzey, you might have to record your fingerprint again on the phone. Assuming you have an iPhone:

Add a fingerprint
You can add multiple fingerprints (both of your thumbs and forefingers, for example).
Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode.
Tap Add a Fingerprint.
Follow the onscreen instructions.

Mr and Mrs Duck made a rare appearance on the reservoir today. Time will tell if they are nesting there or just passing through.

Deathraystare · 10/06/2025 21:20

Well not a good week for me. I have been homeless a long time and was using quiet places at work to sleep. Of course someone rattewd on me and then I lost my job. I have been sofa surfing but I know my friend is getting fed up. I do have a list of rooms to look at tomorrow so am feeling hopeful although I know I will be one of a few looking at the same places.

One thing that went right this week was when I went to Lidl, the small glass gates actually opened when I put my receipt on top. Usually they don't! Is this the sign of things getting better??

I may have to buy a black jacket and smart trousers for the interviews and if I get a jopb as I have lived in tshirts and leggings. That is all I have as the last place I worked didn't really have a dress code. I did pop down to some charity shops but nothing over size 14 and I am a 20!

So my next pay check will no doubt be spent on a jacket, some type of blouse and smart pants!

bizzey · 10/06/2025 22:01

Ohh @Deathraystare 💔 for you x

What happened to your temporary accommodation ?

Can't be easy for you xx

MaryTheTurtle · 10/06/2025 22:23

I’ve lost the plug to the bath, it fell on the floor this morning and now it’s nowhere to be seen.

where is the damn plug

sproutsandparsnips · 10/06/2025 22:56

Oh no @Deathraystare- is that the job you’ve been in for a while? You always seem so dedicated to your job. Why do people have no empathy or compassion? How very difficult for you. I have really been admiring how resilient and positive you have been. Wishing you all the best in your search for accommodation.

bizzey · 10/06/2025 23:44

Please stay with us @Deathraystare ...
Twill be difficult times ahead , but there are a lot of us to help you along xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/06/2025 23:57

Death, how can you be fired for that? Please appeal it!
Are there any agencies you can get assistance from as well since your situation has become so dire?
Bizzey, glad your finger is healing and hope it will continue to do so.

About to wake Havoc from a nap. Naps have become regular with Havoc again the past few weeks. Baby is playing with grapes in a cup. Puts them in. Pours them out. Repeat. 🤷‍♀️

Miss, salad was: 12 grape tomatoes, a red bell pepper, 2 mini cukes, goat feta, chopped rocket (arugula), rotisserie chicken (Costco), about 1/2 c quinoa salad (Costco), some croutons and Olive Garden vinaigrette.

Today was: Lindt chilli chocolate, lime tortilla chips with sour cream and salsa fresca, watermelon and a mix of Perrier and San Pellegrino lemon to drink.

MissConductUS · 11/06/2025 00:51

@Deathraystare, so sorry to hear about your troubles. It seems very unfair to have fired you for that. Can you get housing or other benefits?

Welcome, @MaryTheTurtle, and thanks for sharing your news. If you have a cat, they probably took the plug and hid it.
