Miss, I absolutely love a good strawberry shortcake for dessert. Reminds me of my childhood. And my dad who loved strawberries. In summer he'd have sliced strawberries with a bit of sugar and whipping cream just poured over.

This weekend is the local high school graduation, and the air is filled with the sound of parties. The closest one is three doors away, and my windows are rattling.

DD and I realised on Saturday that it was the opening day of the Farmers' Market season, so we walked there and bought a dill plant and a cherry tomato plant, which are now in pots on my deck.

Oh, I can hear it again just from reading your post! It was exactly the same here. Brings back old memories though 😂

RealPearlDuck · 02/06/2025 06:51

This weekend I tried to declutter again and stumbled upon a bunch of old photo albums filled with pictures of people I never even knew or know very little about. I'm thinking about scanning and keeping them in digital. If you're ever finding yourself at the same place, here is a great article on organizing old family photos, though I'm yet to see if anyone in the family wants them, maybe I won't have to be the one to make the decision 😅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/06/2025 07:25

Welcome @RealPearlDuck A few years ago I was sorting through old photos and found it a bit daunting. So many I'd forgotten about, many I couldn't recall where they were taken etc and I thought I'd make it a rainy day project to sort and label. As I said,,,, A few years ago.

Deathraystare · 02/06/2025 16:02

I love looking through old photos. Years ago Dad sent a photo to all his kids. I assumed it was my younger brother and his wife dressing up oldie style but it wasn't ! It was an older relative we never knew! Spitting image if my Bro had a moustache and was photographed in a sepia colour!!!

bizzey · 02/06/2025 20:53

Catching up on the thread .

Hello new people 👋👋... Sorry ...I quickly read but did not note your names 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️.

I am from south UK ...and it seems like going through quite a lot of medical issues at the moment 🤣🤣!

I try not to moan and try to be happy ...but...

I had an awful weekend 😭.

My toe was on fire ...yes toe is still ongoing...

My back was burning like hell ....yes back is still not fixed....

Then , I phoned dc1 for his birthday..and he said ...

Hey mummy mumkin (no ..he didn't...! It is was just sort of a grunt 😀...
Thinking about coming to pop in later , if that's ok ..
And stay .... Not sure yet ..sort of thing.....

Didn't hear anything more from him till I messaged him a few hours later to see what he had decided ...

He sent me a message with ..ohh ...oops...and a photo of the local train station !!

He was going to be home in 10 mins 🤣🤣..

I lobbed my back and toe out of my comfy position ready to great him with a strained grin !!

bizzey · 02/06/2025 20:57

We did have a wonderful evening with him though as ds 2 came home from work at a relatively early hour and we played our favourite board game .

Where in the world .?

We call it the geography game .

We laughed sooo much !!

bizzey · 02/06/2025 21:04

Ohh forgot to say ...

On Naproxen for back .

Toe consultant gave me new /different cream .
And an X ray of toe.

And I can't believe that I had already diagnosed myself ages ago ...that @Mumtobabyhavoc has been discussing...

Psoriasis !

But he wants to rule out psoriatic arthritis first . Hence the X Ray .

🤞

bizzey · 02/06/2025 21:06

Apparently...my psoriasis is not fitting the normal MO !! 🤣...
I was always born to be special 😌

MissConductUS · 02/06/2025 21:19

Welcome, @RealPearlDuck, and thanks for sharing your decluttering news. That link to the article on organizing family photos isn't loading for me. I'll have to try it when I get home.

bizzey, your complex medical picture is something to behold. Watch out for the Naproxen. It's really hard on the GI tract if taken regularly. Like other similar drugs, it inhibits the production of mucin, the substance that protects the lining of the stomach from your digestive acids.

We had a lovely time picking strawberries yesterday, and they are fabulous this year, very sweet and tender. And it was a lovely drive through the lower Catskill Mountains to get to the farm. Here are some pictures from our day in the fields.

The sheep with the brown face is named Teddy. He has the same coloration as one of our cats, who we also call Teddy as a nickname. We had some of the strawberries last night with whipped cream and pound cake. That's such a summery dessert. The baked goods and maple syrup (locally sourced) were from the lovely farm store they run. While we were shopping, I ran into the owners and told them how sweet and lovely the strawberries were this year, which was a pleasant surprise, as the weather hasn't been great recently.

I have both psoriasis and eczema. 😵‍💫
My condition seems to flare when i'm drinking milk. When i was younger it was really bad on my forearms and elbows until I totally gave up dairy due to being lactose intolerant. Coincidently, my skin improved dramatically. 🤷‍♀️
It was fairly clear until about two years ago which was about a year after giving birth to Havoc. I saw a different dermatologist who told me pregnancy can trigger psoriasis. It's an interesting theory since the immune system is lowered while pregnant and psoriasis is an auto-immune disorder. 🤔
Years ago a derm told me there's no correlation between food allergies/sensitivities and psoriasis/eczema. I belive that's false.
Anyway, I'm wondering if you have any other conditions which might've triggered it? Just a thought.

Fhjiutwafhmbcff · 03/06/2025 10:56

I got some PureStep barefoot shoes recently and I really like them. I have far fewer aches after wearing them.
I'm even thinking of getting some Winter ones.

MissConductUS · 03/06/2025 15:21

@FhjiutwafhmbcffWelcome, and thanks for sharing your comfy footwear news. I had to Google those shoes. I'd love to try them, but they don't seem to be available in the U.S.

We've had a lot of new joiners recently, which is lovely. We usually just get them when a new thread opens up, so it's nice to see more now when the thread's been around for a bit.

Havoc, how's your psoriasis/eczema doing now? I also have an immune system disorder, ulcerative colitis. I've found probiotics so helpful with moderating my seasonal allergies, and I've noticed an improvement in my UC symptoms as well.

I'm watching a police drama on Netflix set in Scotland, called Dept. Q. It's very good. The Scottish accents are less pronounced than I expected, so possibly they've moderated them for the non-UK audience.

I saw a heron on the reservoir yesterday. They must have finished doing the foundations for the construction that's underway nearby, as they've allowed the water level to come back up to normal. They lowered it to keep the water table out of the space they dug out for the concrete foundations.

My roses in front of the house are really starting to pop.

Love the pics, Miss. How are the turtles? Have you seen them recently? I might give probiotics a try. I remember you previously posted about taking them. So much is linked to gut-health, isn't it? Is you UC controlled? My mum has (currently controlled) Crohn's, so I'm quite familiar.

Fhjiutwafhmbcff · 03/06/2025 19:18

Thanks MissConductUS.
I expect there are other brands available in the US but this is my first time trying any barefoot shoes.

MissConductUS · 03/06/2025 20:09

@Fhjiutwafhmbcff, I tend to wear Hoka slides with padded running socks around the house and find those very comfy.

Havoc, my UC is better now than it has been for years, which I attribute to the biologic I'm on (Entyvio), the probiotics, taking a taurine supplement and the fact that my geriatric immune system is a lot less fiesty than it used to be.

Turtles? Did someone say "turtles"? 😀 I saw these today.

I am on holiday in the Canary Islands. Today we went to a vineyard and had some wine tasting, followed by an hour's sales pitch about joining the hotel's scheme where you pay for your holiday a year in advance and get cheaper rates. My DH is keen, but it feels like a timeshare. Fortunately we can't afford it for now! Though it is a lovely hotel.
We've just had a tasting menu in one of the hotel restaurants, pork, lamb, creme brulee.
Tomorrow will be dull. Just sleep and relaxing.

bizzey · 03/06/2025 21:48

@MyrtleLion lovely to hear from you in holiday !

I suppose those holiday selling promotions can get quite tantalising when you are in the holiday euphoria mode !!

MyrtleLion · 03/06/2025 22:20

It is cheaper for us to buy in advance. We always spend the same amount and we are looking for a great hotel chain we can rely on, but overall it's a 5-6 year commitment and online reviews say it can be difficult to cancel.

Definite timeshare.
