Super busy day and I'm wiped out. Took Havoc to activity across town, back home & picked up mum and baby to go to mum's med appt. That turned into, "Surprise!!! We'll biopsy that right now you lucky lady!!!" Then rushed to a med appt I got last min as emerg as my shoulder seized and doc was all I've got time if you need anything else? So got nerve blocks on my hip.
Right. Then off to grocery store, liquor store (surprising my poor mum with a glass of wine at dinner), produce shop then grabbed two sushi rolls on the walk back to the car. All 4 of us snacked on Cali and Dynamite rolls then the 40 min drive across town back home.
I think I might have a touch of wine now, too.
Going to prep dinner and watch the King's throne speech which I pvr'd. It's quite historic. 👑🇬🇧🇨🇦

Yesterday was busy with errands!

Preassessment clinic at the local hospital for my ankle fusion surgery which will be in a maximum of 12 weeks. Going on holiday on Saturday so it won’t be for at least two weeks after we get back, so probably sometime in July. Not bad for a two year waiting list expected last October.

I was trying to get a nurse appointment to sort out my thumb, but the technology to book it wasn’t working, and then a miracle! I booked an appointment 20 minutes after the hospital appointment - the GP is very close - so went in to wait and was seen immediately.

My sore thumb was cauterised with silver nitrate within five minutes. Sadly it now looks as though I’ve spilled black ink on it and it will take 7-10 days to recover. And I can’t get the gel nail redone or removed. Never mind.

Had to return a garment but was sent a label to print. We don’t have a printer, but was reassured the Post Office would print it for nothing. Not only would they not print it, but she was very rude and offhand about it, so I had to go to the printer and pay £1.

Then I had a phone call with a recruiter about a new role that I will apply for soon.

Today I had my hair cut and coloured, and I will have a video call with another recruiter for a different role, and then I will drive to the nearby city for a professional networking reception.

@MyrtleLion

Well good luck with your ankle and thumb and the recruitment!

@Mumtobabyhavoc

A little too much, Death. 🤦‍♀️
I won't be doing that again!

sueelleker · 28/05/2025 17:44

MyrtleLion; I recently had to return something to Amazon.co.uk, and, like you, don't have a printer. They arranged for Royal Mail to collect it from me, and they brought the label with them. No charge.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/05/2025 19:49

Sue/Myrtle, I have Amazon Prime, so it's hassle-free returns. Don't even need original packaging. Amazon/who ever shows up, takes a pic and takes it away - or I just get a refund and told to keep/dispose of item myself. 🤷‍♀️

sueelleker · 29/05/2025 08:21

Mum; I have Amazon Prime too, but the only options were to print a label and take it to a drop-off point, or get Royal Mail to collect it. They wouldn't give me a refund until I'd returned it.

Deathraystare · 29/05/2025 09:00

sueelleker · Yes and sometimes when you look up where to return, they no longer do it there as I found out! I ended up going to a number of shops!!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/05/2025 13:20

Sue, how weird - and inconveniencing! Here, when I select "return" and it goes to the print label part, I just don't. I can't remember if there's an option t select "unable to print" or not, but we don't have to do the admin part. I haven't returned in a while. Next time I do, I will try and remember to post about the process.

I was startled awake at 5am by baby crying. I was asleep on the couch and both dc in my bed. It was 30c yesterday and too warm for me and I thought I'd sleep better in the living room. Am now having a cuddle with baby and listening to pouring rain. I love it. ☔️💕

I think they've had to crack down on returns from too many people trying it on with them. Not refunding until they've received the product back is pretty reasonable.

There's an office supply store (part of a large chain) near me that takes Amazon returns and it's pretty painless. You hand them the product, and they scan the QR code in Amazon's email. They print a label, put it on the product and drop in a huge box that gets shipped to Amazon when it's full. I have them credit my Amazon account for the amount of the product, and get it within a few hours of dropping it off. It's so much easier than having to box it up and ship it back yourself. The store is in the same shopping center my wholesale/warehouse club is in (like Costco), so I'm there once a week anyway.

The interviews have started for my replacement. Myrtle, I wish I could offer you the job, but the commute from the UK would be dire. 😂

I take my returns to my nearest Whole Foods, scan the code on my phone, print a sticky label, put the item in a clear plastic bag from a dispenser, shove the item into a big bin via a flap, and off I go. Actually, they're always DD3's returns as she's on a lifelong quest for the perfect pair of black jeans.

MyrtleLion · 29/05/2025 23:46

Aww, thank you all! I wish it had been Prime. Sadly, it was John Lewis, and the replacement took three days to arrive, for which I had to pay £4.50 delivery.

MyrtleLion · 29/05/2025 23:50

Today was three job applications, arranging a service for the car, but sadly not an MOT.

Tomorrow is brows and nails and dinner at the restaurant by the river. Saturday will be breakfast by the river then driving to the airport with dinner at a hotel, before a 7am flight on Sunday morning for our holiday.

bizzey · 30/05/2025 01:36

Ohh Myrtle where are you off to ??
Sorry if you have already mentioned it !

I am unfortunately doing a few returns to Amazon as well at the moment.
I am trying to find the Holy Grail of comfy , loose feel like I am not wearing them pair of trousers fory holiday .

I prefer to print my labels and take them to the post office myself .

Waiting in for the RM post lady is annoying.

But all my returns at the moment seem to be showing OR code at PO and they bag it up.

I send the QR code to myself on WhatsApp and write what the item is .

I hate causing a delay in the PO .

I have learnt the hard way , if I do have a home collection, is to write the order number down on the parcel so we know which label is for which parcel 🤣🤣!

We’re going to the Canary Islands and weather has meant our original hotel is currently closed. They’ve rearranged for us to go to a different island with a 7am flight. We never travel that early, so the package holiday company are paying for a hotel the night before.

bizzey · 30/05/2025 17:53

Ohh exciting!
Love an airport hotel.
Just takes away the stress !

SURREYmum2025 · 30/05/2025 17:55

I wore sandals instead of trainers and felt uncomfortable all day.

MissConductUS · 30/05/2025 19:07

Welcome, @SURREYmum2025and thanks for sharing your unfortunate footwear news with us.

I am at the medical office waiting for an appointment to have my annual physical exam. I’m seeing a Nurse Practitioner as my GP is on holiday.

Umanresources · 30/05/2025 23:26

I’ve realised that it’s been 5 days since I wore sandals/slippers, as I haven’t been outside for a couple of weeks. I managed have a shower today, fold up some laundry and vacuum half the conservatory before I became too tired to do anything else. I did find a French crime series on Netflix, The Forest, which I watch with English sub titles. I saw the first episode, but kept closing my eyes during the second and had to rewind because I had no idea what was happening!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/05/2025 22:57

Lazy here, too. Rain finally stopped. I've got dinner started (wild&br rice) and going to roast zucchini and salmon. I plan on chopping sun-dried tomatoes and mixing with crumbled feta and topping the salmon with it. Two loads laundry washed and hung up. Two loads folded and put away. DC napping. And I've got track and field on tv.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/05/2025 23:19

Decided to add chopped spinach to the mix for the salmon. Then prawns on top with pesto. Here's how it looks before popping it into the oven. Took all of 10 mins. Frozen salmon and prawns. Baking on 425f.

cadburyegg · 01/06/2025 00:32

can I join this thread please!

I bought some new socks today. Felt like a real treat 🤣

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/06/2025 01:29

@cadburyegg we're a friendly little group. Welcome. 😊
Where are you located?
I'm in Vancouver, Canada. 😊

MissConductUS · 01/06/2025 10:55

Of course you are welcome, @cadburyegg, and thanks for sharing your sartorial news. I love buying new socks. Bombas are my favorite for dressy socks. For walking and exercise, and just being comfy around the house, I love Thorlos. Those are made in the US, so I don't know if you have them available where you are.

I'm in a semi-rural/suburban area called the Hudson Highlands in New York. I think I've been the "thread mum" for about four years. Most of the thread regulars are in the UK, but there are three of us in North America.

Havoc, it rained all day here yesterday. We had a takeaway last night because we couldn't cook out on the grill.

The rain is over. Our favorite pick-your-own fruit place, Fishkill Farms, opens today, so I've booked a 9:30 AM slot for us to pick strawberries. I can't wait! Their strawberries are so much better than the industrial ones in the stores. I picked up a pound cake and some whipping cream yesterday, so we'll have those with the strawberries for dessert tonight.

DS went to look at another flat yesterday. He liked it, but it's not available until August.

My roses are blooming!
