Oh God. What now?!?

Not going to watch. I'll wait and read about it later after a few stiff drinks.

But you know, he is NOT God. The rest of the world can and should RESIST against his undemocratic idiocy. We stand strong for a truthful State of the Union (not Trump and his cretinous minions).
ETA: I make no apology for my vocabulary in this instance. We need to fight and be truthful, no holds barred.

They seem to think some sort of major investment project. But likely to take questions on Ukraine.

Taiwanese chipmaker investment and argricultural tariffs have been mentioned

From NYT:
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world’s largest chip manufacturer, intends to spend $100 billion in the United States over the next four years to expand its production capacity and bring its most advanced semiconductor processes to its operations in Arizona.

C.C. Wei, TSMC’s chief executive, is expected to unveil the investment and production plans on Monday during an appearance with President Trump at the White House, said two people familiar with the plan who asked for anonymity because it hasn’t been announced.

That's Taiwan trying to shore up their protection from China then.

I wouldn't count on it guys!

If Taiwan shifts it's production to the US what incentives does the US than have to protec5 Taiwan?
Doesn't seem smart.

Trump has just agreed with you.

If I heard them correctly, in his press Q&A he said something along the lines of Taiwan opening some production in the UK would help mitigate an invasion of Taiwan by China (speaking from the US POV).

American tariffs on Canada and Mexico will start tomorrow, Trump confirms.

The Dow has lost more than 800 points after the tariffs announcement.

Meanwhile European defence stocks are soaring.

He’s grasping for a “win”. His great plan for stopping the war in Ukraine has fallen flat, everyone is laughing at him over the Gaza proposal so he’s flailing desperately for something he can spin as a win at the State of the Union.

Someone made a massive crypto bet - $195m with 50x leverage - just before Trump's announcement today. A 2% fall would have wiped him out, but he got an 8% rise. Lucky man, eh?

ido vock (@ido.bsky.social)

A lucky trader just happened to put in a $200m trade with 50x leverage a few hours before a Trump pro-crypto announcement. The price of crypto jumped and this person made hundreds of millions. Pure luck I’m sure.

Just found out that the 'State of the Union' speech tomorrow isn't technically a SOTU speech and will be called the "Address to a Joint Session of Congress" as it's too soon after the inauguration for there to be a State to comment on.

I beg to differ.

So that was it? The tariffs? That was his 'bigly announcement'?

I'm not saying the tariffs aren't a big deal as far as the cost of living and the economy goes. Things are going to get more expensive and we'll have to tighten our belts accordingly. And look to the wellbeing of our less fortunate neighbours.

I was worried it was going to be something much worse. I suppose he's saving that for the SotU.

Temporary suspension of military aid. Trump wants Zelenskyy's head.

from NYT:
President Trump on Monday temporarily suspended the delivery of all U.S. military aid to Ukraine, senior administration and military officials said, just days after Mr. Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine had an explosive confrontation at the White House.
^^
The order affects more than $1 billion in arms and ammunition in the pipeline and on order. It resulted from a series of meetings at the White House on Monday between Mr. Trump and his senior national security aides, the officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal deliberations.
The officials said the directive would be in effect until Mr. Trump determined that Ukraine had demonstrated a good-faith commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.
^^
Mr. Trump’s decision dramatically escalates the breach between Washington and Kyiv, at a critical moment in the conflict. The most immediate beneficiary of the move is President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia. If the suspension is lengthy, he can use the time to press for further territorial gains. And he may well decide to hold back from any negotiations at all, figuring that any prolonged dispute between Mr. Trump and Mr. Zelensky will only strengthen his position, either on the battlefield or when cease-fire talks ever take place.

Mr. Trump’s move has few direct precedents in recent American history. While the United States has paused the transfer of specific weapons systems to allies and partners, such as President Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s decision to suspend deliveries of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel that he feared could be used against civilians in Gaza, a full cutoff is essentially an ultimatum. It forces Mr. Zelensky to agree to a cease-fire on terms Mr. Trump dictates, or condemns the country to larger battlefield losses.

The suspension also puts the United States in direct opposition to its major NATO allies. Most of the largest European nations, led by France, Britain and Germany, have pledged to step up aid to Ukraine in recent days, siding with Mr. Zelensky in his dispute with the Trump administration. But they simply do not have the stockpiles to make up the difference in the short term.

Mr. Trump’s directive, which was reported earlier by Bloomberg News, also halts deliveries of equipment from Pentagon stockpiles as aid through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which provides funds that Kyiv can use only to buy new military hardware directly from U.S. defense companies. It was unclear what exactly Mr. Zelensky would need to do for Mr. Trump to resume the military assistance.

Thing is it’s cruel on the extreme to the Ukrainians but it’s also going to negatively impact the US defence sector where this money was actually being spent. I suspect Trump’s too thick to even know that though…

namechangedtemporarily123 · 04/03/2025 07:05

Trump just wants to be the big man who brings 'peace'. He's possibly tentatively approached Russia who have folded their arms and said 'no' to every concession ( in amongst the conversations they're having about trade etc) now he's picking on the weaker party to get that 'peace' at any cost. It's as simple as that.

BustingBaoBun · 04/03/2025 07:11

Trump/Vance are just petty bully boys. They laid into Zelenskyy, he didn't lick their boots, so they withdraw aid.

As far as the tariffs, I can't wait for pricing to hit the MAGAts because however many times it's explained to Trump, he just doesn't seem to get how tariffs work and who pays them.

Eyesopenwideawake · 04/03/2025 07:15

Zelenskyy could say that he was extremely grateful to that nice President Biden for all his help. Hopefully that would make Putin's bitch's head explode!

BlackeyedSusan · 04/03/2025 07:58

I would be wary of believing that Zelenskyy used a swear word without proof. Who benefits from that? 1 person has posted this and it has been repeated five or six times in the following posts.

@CaveMum, Elon's the President. Have you not noticed? Just keeping Grandpop Bigly for show.

Serpentstooth · 04/03/2025 08:12

Just one swear word from Z? If he did, that's pretty restrained. I've got a few he could use for Bigly and the Vance puppy if he needs more. He can have them free of charge, no deal required.

Here's a new thread for when this one is full - things will probably move along quickly today now that pathetic bully Donny Diaper has picked up 'his' ball and gone home to Mummy Leon.

Very true. I do like the idea of someone calling Vance an expletive though, he deserves every swear word on earth thrown at him.
