What luxuries do you buy for yourself?

What kinds of things do you spend your disposable income on just for yourself? For me its fancy skincare, good warm socks, nice loose leaf tea. quality chocolate and books. I will also splash out a bit on cultural things like the theatre, concerts and exhibitions if there is anything on I want to see but its not a regular spend.

What about you?

Trips.

It doesn’t matter whether they’re UK based, or further afield. I don’t go for expensive accommodation (sometimes it’s a tent, my van, airbnb…).

I just love adventures.

@StormingNorman
Yeah I guess but when it comes out of the joint account it doesn't seem like I'm buying it for myself 🤷‍♀️

creamsnugjumper · 02/02/2025 12:36

I just splashed out on nice shampoo, conditioner and a hair mask. I'm a whatever is in the shower kind of person.

But noticed my hair is so so dry.

KohlaParasaurus · 02/02/2025 15:11

Buying equipment and attending events for a hobby I love but am not very good at.
Holidays.

Shakey2022 · 02/02/2025 16:06

@GrapeOfMoth how old are you?

I have an elderly family member who thinks like you / thought like you her whole life and now these thoughts have compounded into mess, she is on anti depressants and anti psychotics (to quieten the voices in her head telling her she's not worthy), this last stage of her life is not happy times with her family and grandchildren but endless crisis appointments with psychiatrists and endless worry and trauma for her children who are trying to process how someone who's life seemed so simple (kept her own life simple and didn't spend any money on herself etc) has turned into this big mess.

I'm urging you to go and seek help for the way that you think before it's too late.

Hardback books usually with a coordinating pretty bookmark.
Always First Class train tickets.

I genuinely struggle so much with this. It's not that my view of myself is that I am undeserving as such. I just always feel anything 'extravagant' for me is too self indulgent (I am not judging others on this thread - I wish I didn't feel that way!).

I felt this way when I suffered from depression

Spicykitten · 02/02/2025 16:48

My swimming membership at my local council-run pool. I love it!

I also value experiences over stuff, such as going to concerts and the theatre. That being said, I really enjoy skincare and building LEGO sets too!

EmmaEmEmz · 02/02/2025 16:49

MrsR2be · 07/07/2025 19:39

Theatre once a year

Nicebush · 07/07/2025 20:33

Love this thread. For me, a nice gym membership, allowing myself to go several times per week, and regular full body massage.

Mary46 · 07/07/2025 20:44

Great thread. Nice pjs. Loccitane shower gel. I enjoy nice coffee too. Spent alot on teeth lately so that was big spend wisdom out etc.

XenoBitch · 07/07/2025 21:00

I have just signed up to a wax melt subscription service. Get 2 new scents each month. I also love stuff from Rituals... makes me feel and smell nice.
I don't have coffee at home, so I sometimes treat myself to an oak milk latte.

Cherrysoup · 07/07/2025 21:29

I’m a bit of an idiot for buying lipsticks, have recently stopped, I rarely use anything but the felt tip style one.

I have Kindle Unlimited, which feels like an indulgence, I read a lot.

Takeaway coffee is a recent thing, there’s a great coffee place opposite work, I already know I’ll be going there tomorrow, despite having a machine at home.

Airbnbs in the area we’re moving to next year. It’s an investment, imo, but costs a fair bit.

mommatoone · 07/07/2025 22:34

Pillow spray
Eye mask (for sleeping )
Nice bubble bath
Not a luxury and no expense spared, but a nice walk on my own listening to a good podcast.

AllLopsided · 07/07/2025 23:21

Love reading about other people's treats!

I buy nice skincare - I use the same moisturisers but rotate cleansers, serums and oils. Nice makeup but it's minimal as I can't wear eye products apart from brow pencil. I have way too many lips balms and glosses. Hair colour done every month by the hairdresser and I get my shampoo there. Perfume - far too much, I'm afraid my collection will outlive me!

I love audio books and have a subscription, no guilt about buying extra credits.

Good loose leaf tea and the nicest gluten free biscuits I can find. Little macarons for a bigger treat if I'm near the shop.

Decent sheets and pillowcases.

What I don't buy: expensive clothes - I don't really need them, though I buy things I like. Shoes: have a very dodgy ankle and there are very few I can wear. I have a lot of older bags but I mostly use the same style in different colours now.

Devianinc · 07/07/2025 23:31

I don’t but one time I bought a little tub of le mer and I can honestly say that there was nothing special about and it smelled like faintly dying old roses and it did nothing for my skin. It did get rid of my jealousy about never having it before.

Misbella · 08/07/2025 14:15

Horse, wine, skincare, socialising !

Lemonandginger1 · 09/07/2025 09:58

Decent skincare and gig/concert tickets

TattyBluebell · 10/07/2025 22:19

Lego! Yep, seriously.. I love Lego!

WannaWannaSweetie · 14/07/2025 23:04

Essential oils. Use on my body, in burners, in sprays / love the stuff.
