What luxuries do you buy for yourself?

What kinds of things do you spend your disposable income on just for yourself? For me its fancy skincare, good warm socks, nice loose leaf tea. quality chocolate and books. I will also splash out a bit on cultural things like the theatre, concerts and exhibitions if there is anything on I want to see but its not a regular spend.

What about you?

@hjfoau I get half a head of mixed highlights. I don't mind a bit of grey as one of the colours IYSWIM but a mix of blonde highlights warms my whole look up, I look really drab without it. And because it's not a block colour the roots aren't as obvious when they grow in.

Endofyear · 01/02/2025 19:43

Just treated myself to some sketchers slip on trainers in the sale. They still weren't cheap but they are soooo comfy!

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 01/02/2025 19:43

Time (by only working four days a week)
Gig tickets
Once a year, a solo hiking trip
Brand name porridge (about the only grocery I get that isn’t own brand)
Occasional yoga class

Cherrypi · 01/02/2025 19:46

Getting my hair cut and coloured
Kindle books
Magazine subscriptions - The Simple things, Strong words and Delayed Gratification
Gym membership

hjfoau · 01/02/2025 19:48

@PermanentTemporary sounds lovely, I probably need to look at something like highlights with a variety of shades.

soupmaker · 01/02/2025 19:50

Our cleaner once a week
Luxury soap
Proper coffee
A doughnut every month from the best doughnut place ever
Luxardo cherries for cocktails
Organic rose hip face oil

Middlemarch123 · 01/02/2025 19:52

Whittard’s tea, the Lychee and Rose one is gorgeous.

RabbitsRock · 01/02/2025 19:53

Oh my goodness jewellery! Had to stop though as I have soooo much, although there’s a stunning ring on Facebook Marketplace that I’m currently fighting to resist!
Smoked salmon
Montezuma chocolate ( love the Black Forest one & the Happy Hippy which is orange oil & geranium)
Recently discovered some lovely alcohol free botanicals & hoping to buy more
Not necessarily luxury but I love treating myself to soaps from TK Maxx

ShortBreak · 01/02/2025 19:53

Really fancy some kippers now 😋

muddyford · 01/02/2025 19:55

Books
Chocolate
Nice perfume
Paintings

HopefulBeliever · 01/02/2025 19:58

Kerastase shampoo and conditioner (stock up yearly in Black Friday sales)
Nice soap bars
M&S ready meals when work is busy
Milk delivered by a milkman

Latenightreader · 01/02/2025 19:58

I bought myself three lego botanicals sets in the black friday and post Christmas sales. I have enjoyed them do much and they bring me a silly amount of joy when I look at them. I still have one to do.

Apart from that, I've just bought eurostar tickets for half term week and I am planning on not worrying about scrimping when we are there - I even bought eurostar plus tickets. We haven't been abroad since 2019 and I am planning on going to museums and trying interesting food and drink. I am so excited!

DreamingOfASilentNight · 01/02/2025 20:01

Paperbacks when they are 3 for 2, (usually once a year though). I like a coffee when I'm walking so will buy a tale away a few times a week if I feel like it only some weeks, but nothing major. Husband has already made me feel really guilty about spending. I but things for my children without to much thought and household necessities however. That said I don't really feel the need or particular desire to just have things, never have done. I probably wouldn't spend hugely more even if I could.

OuiLaLa · 01/02/2025 20:02

Skincare! I’m pretty tight on my personal expenditure otherwise. I have things I want to splurge on but they are in a long list behind kids/house renovations etc.

I’ve been hugely focused on my expenditure though as I was shocked to realise I had more debt than I realised in September last year. 2/3rds paid off now tho!

Titasaducksarse · 01/02/2025 20:03

Mounjaro and botox.
Both things giving me a happier life.

ShortBreak · 01/02/2025 18:48

Some of the other things that other posters are mentioning don't come out of my personal spends budget, e.g. days out, dinner out, gig / theatre tickets, travel etc.

Why does it matter what budget they come out of? Surely doing/buying something nice for yourself is still a treat, regardless of which budget it comes out of?

LostInAMist · 01/02/2025 20:04

It's really nice to see what makes other people feel special... All my spare cash goes on making sure the dog, horses and sheep have the best of what they need (and a fair bit of "just because they're lovely" treats 😅)

RosesAndHellebores · 01/02/2025 20:06

Estee Lauder
Perfume

I find it a luxury that I can have anything I want chose not to.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/02/2025 20:08

I treat myself with nice loose leaf tea from the local independent tea shop and luxurious yarn to knit and crochet with. I occasionally splurge on make-up or skin care, but tbh I never really find they are any better than the cheaper stuff! Ditto expensive shampoo.

ssd · 01/02/2025 20:08

Can you really have anything you want @RosesAndHellebores ? I can't imagine that

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 01/02/2025 20:09

@PermanentTemporary Spotify didn't occur to me, I pay for that, hate adverts

PermanentTemporary · 01/02/2025 20:12

@Wavescrashingonthebeach it's such a huge part of my day, though admittedly slightly less than it used to be as I'm a radio addict and listening to fewer podcasts, but I've pretty much always got something on.

Cakeandcardio · 01/02/2025 20:13

GammonAndEgg · 01/02/2025 18:45

@GrapeOfMoth this makes me sad.
Of course you deserve nice things. You don’t have to have ‘done’ something.
You are deserving, just because you exist 🌹

I genuinely struggle so much with this. It's not that my view of myself is that I am undeserving as such. I just always feel anything 'extravagant' for me is too self indulgent (I am not judging others on this thread - I wish I didn't feel that way!).

legalalien · 01/02/2025 20:13

I bought myself a relatively expensive swimsuit this week. But have worked out that the last swimsuit I bought was seventeen years ago so I figure that's OK.

YY to the person above who said that time is the best luxury purchase. Also private dental care.

Books are an essential rather than a luxury...

ItGhoul · 01/02/2025 20:14

Perfume, candles, posh notebooks and pens, art/journalling supplies, fandom t-shirts i don’t need, booze for making cocktails. I also get my nails done every three weeks.

I buy loads and loads of books but I’ve always read so much all my life that I’ve honestly never considered that a luxury! I suppose it is, though, as if I didn’t buy them I could use the library.
