What luxuries do you buy for yourself?

What kinds of things do you spend your disposable income on just for yourself? For me its fancy skincare, good warm socks, nice loose leaf tea. quality chocolate and books. I will also splash out a bit on cultural things like the theatre, concerts and exhibitions if there is anything on I want to see but its not a regular spend.

What about you?

At the moment for me it's personal training sessions.

ShortBreak · 01/02/2025 18:48

Some of the other things that other posters are mentioning don't come out of my personal spends budget, e.g. days out, dinner out, gig / theatre tickets, travel etc.

HippoStraw · 01/02/2025 18:49

Audiobook subscriptions, theatre tickets and several weekends away each year.

Normallynumb · 01/02/2025 18:51

I'm on disability benefits and am by nature frugal
I have my gorgeous Westie so I spend on his health and welfare.
I have a monthly cut and colour( only £45 as she works from home)
Really good shampoo
Mac lipstick.

If you are talking everyday luxuries mine are cyclical. I do a wardrobe refresh in the autumn planing for the upcoming year and even holiday outfits. December is pajama restock as that seems to be the time to find the largest selection. Then in January new bras/knickers/ socks. I’m very specific about what I buy and it feels like a treat each time. I also treat myself to lovely skincare all year long replacing anything or trying new but I don’t “stock” skincare. I buy it and use it. I recently refreshed my blush and eyeshadow selections buying a Chanel eyeshadow I have been eyeing since December. Annually I buy one luxury handbag and/ or a coat altho this year I have not bought either..yet. Like some PP…DC are young adults and still gifted for birthday or holiday or special occasions but not the same cash stream all the raising them years seems to require and in my 50s I’m enjoying spending a bit more on me. I like feeling my wardrobe and personal care are fully together and I wear/ use all of it.

Kindle daily deal books
A coffee, particularly if I'm stood on the sidelines of yet another training session or match. It can really make a difference if it's cold & miserable.
Flowers. Sometimes proper bouquets; often a £2.50 bunch from Lidl. They always cheer me up when I see them in the house
The cleaner
New clothes. I know I should keep the same things forever but I like changing things up a bit
My magazine subscriptions

NewYearStillFat · 01/02/2025 18:53

Decent skin care, make up and toiletries.

nahthatsnotforme · 01/02/2025 18:56

Estée Lauder skincare. My dear late MIL used to work for them and often gave me some but once she died I couldn't afford it so stopped.

Now my children are no longer dependant on me I have returned to it. It's ridiculously expensive but I love it.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 01/02/2025 18:58

My only real luxuries at the moment are ground coffee rather than instant and nice good quality chocolate now and then.
Prioritising DC. I had plenty of luxuries in my younger years so I'm happy to be frugal now and get joy out of free or low cost things 😊

Pre-kids:

  • membership to a pottery studio
  • membership to a very expensive gym (mostly so I could use their beautiful sauna & steam room)
  • Natoora fruit & veg deliveries

Post kids:

  • a 4 day week, with the day off being just for me.
  • eating out on my own. in peace and quiet.
Ladamesansmerci · 01/02/2025 19:00

Board games!

Anyone into the hobby will know it isn't cheap.

I have done nothing to deserve nice things.

Grape surely that’s not true unless you are a mass murderer.

AxolotlEars · 01/02/2025 19:01

I have my eyelashes dyed

wonderstuff · 01/02/2025 19:01

Our cleaner is probably our biggest luxury but also biggest impact. I will occasionally buy clothes, sometimes ones not in the sales! I go to the theatre once or twice a year, I buy coffee on the way to work most days, a meal out with friends a few times a year. A bar of nice chocolate a couple of times a month. We have our 25th wedding anniversary next year and planning a little holiday without the kids.

Kids are a huge drain on our budget at the moment, but our eldest is 18 this year and youngest 15, so 5-6 years from now we should be able to afford some really lovely holidays. I love to travel.

Lentilweaver · 01/02/2025 19:02

I need to consider Montezuma dark chocolate buttons.

CarliLove35 · 01/02/2025 19:06

I have a payday treat once a month, and in January I bought a Eufy robot hoover. Yes, I'm sure I could get the Dyson out but I'm getting older and time is precious. Sometimes my treat might be a night at the theatre, or something lovely to wear, skincare, makeup, maybe a new bag. I don't count holidays as luxuries, they are necessities and budgeted for regardless.

ValentineValentineV · 01/02/2025 19:07

I wouldn’t feel comfortable not using my personal spending money for my girl’s nights out and solo holidays, spa weekends, shows etc.

Meadowfinch · 01/02/2025 19:07

Cut & colour every six weeks. My one luxury. 🤗

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 01/02/2025 19:08

Nice thermal socks for everyday
Perfect pyjamas
Estee Lauder skincare and an Elemis cleanser

Cleaner - not sure if this is worth it or not, but definitely is before we have visitors staying.

Yearly spa day with a friend.

Extra things from vinted that I want but don't need ie new trainers, nice frock.

I'm quite frugal so don't tend to splurge on personal stuff, apart from very occasional trips away with friends.

DiscoDown18 · 01/02/2025 19:14

A regular manicure and BIAB nails. Tickets for gigs and festivals.

CharSiu · 01/02/2025 19:19

Cashmere socks, Clinique, sports massage.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/02/2025 19:20

Friday/Saturday/Sunday nice shower gel like Molton Brown or Rituals .
Monday-Thursday just a standard like Faith in Nature or soap ,I don't wear make-up to work , and I wear a uniform , so I just need to be clean and properly dressed .

For hair , I use Aveda which is ££ but works out cheaper as it works for me and I'm not wasting money being disappointed

Tana433 · 01/02/2025 19:22

Gigs and hotel after for convenience, Books and chocolate.
