It would be a cheap shot to make a comment about cows.

However it's telling that St, Kemi chose to be photographed at the mouth not the udder. So something along the lines of being an udder disgrace would probably suffice.

Or to raise the tone, something about here is how the Tories feed the sacred cow of Brexit.

Bovid 19 ?

Yes the farming industry is hilarious. I’m going to be completely po faced about this. Why would she be pictured near a heifer calf’s tiny udder?

InMySpareTime · 31/01/2025 14:30

How about "once, I was farming class for an afternoon"

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 31/01/2025 15:37

Just seen the mew thread - cheers @DuncinToffee.
Cat tax (NMC - just one that tries to break on every day) enclosed.

My caption is ‘Tory leader feeds calves’. She’s taking an interest in the farming community which is a state of shock at the moment. Of course course it doesn’t affect you.

Is she? Or is she using the farming community? Remember she hasn’t said she’d reverse the IHT changes.

Nobody has suggested laughing at the farming community though - just Badenoch. Who would be hilarious if she wasn’t so awful.

I’m talking about the Ill informed jokes on here. Not funny. Badenoch is doing this for her own ends. However if Starmer or Reeves tried that now no farmer would entertain them.

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2025 15:58

These photo opportunities never go well but nice to know that she is taking an interest in farming now she is in the opposition. The Australia deal was one of hers as international trades minister.

What jokes do you mean? The only ones associated with that picture are 100% about Badenoch. I’m not sure you can speak for all farmers, either - I’ve read/heard some say it’s not an issue for them because there are ways to avoid it and it stops people buying land simply to dodge tax.

Notonthestairs · 31/01/2025 16:00

Interested in farming my arse.

itsgettingweird · 31/01/2025 16:02

My caption is "milking it for all its worth"

Are you speaking for all farmers ?

Also are you now an arbiter of what is, and what is not funny ?

I don't need a sky fairy to tell me what is right or wrong, much less a mere mortal to tell me what is funny or not.

The Telegraph asks: "What's the beef with Kemi Badenoch ?"

Tories despair as Kemi Badenoch misunderstands how to milk the press

Kemi: clearly not bullshit here

derxa · 31/01/2025 16:06

I was told it was a very silly photo. What’s silly about it? She’s feeding a calf. Dairy calves wear jackets nowadays. Politicians have done this sort of photo op for decades. There are even ones with KS and RR standing in fields. They’d get chased now

I hate the Telegraph jokes as well They’re written by smug urbanites who haven’t got a clue.

Don't be such an Eeyore derxa. If you don't like it, you can go elsewhere.

I'll post another photo next week - I cannot guarantee any cows will be involved

It’s silly for Badenoch to pretend she’s interested in calves, or farms, given her actual time in government and what she did with it. Nothing about calves in coats. Why would you think anyone would find that silly? Do you think you are the only one who has ever been on a farm or seen pictures of one?

Oh no! This is gold

I was told it was a very silly photo. What’s silly about it?

As a picture, nothing.

However it wasn't published as a picture for us to admire the composition, the fill-in flash, the depth of field and the use of colour palette.

It was published to convey some sort of impression that Kemi "Stop asking for facts" Badenoch is in some way capable of running a country because she is capable of shoving a container (of what I presume is milk ?) in a poor calves face with no respect for it's dignity, by the way.

Some farmers might object to valuable livestock being co-opted for a cheap publicity stunt with no care for it's welfare. I mean I eat meat, and I feel sorry for that calf.

SerendipityJane · 31/01/2025 16:22

Channelling LilyMNHQ - steady on folks.

cakeorwine · 31/01/2025 16:29

Anyone remember Yes Minister when he goes to visit a city farm - and he was very keen not to be seen near a pig's trough.

She’s not doing that calf any harm. She’s feeding the calf milk out of a large bottle which has a teat at the end

Yes exactly! At least someone remembers the old maximum about children or animals instead of having a sense of humour failure
