Russia is desperate for European money. They want sanctions gone. A lot of UK business was dependent on Russia. That has not gone away. This is about money for some in business who may post here. They want to be making money in Russia with their contacts.

And Putin will be delighted to be put back in a position of power

Thread title suggestion anyone?

Ed Davey on bluesky

In principle there should be a vote in Parliament when troops are deployed. I’m confident all sides of the House are likely to agree with the Prime Minister apart from those Trump bootlickers in Reform.

Badenoch's comments are pathetic. She should be made to rank a few "cultures" in top ten.

Fortunately no one needs to listen to her as if you want cultural superiority chat you can just hit up Reform who do this stuff better and more subtly

PandoraSox · 17/02/2025 14:56

"all sides of the House agree apart from the Trump bootlickers in Reform".

Possible thread title?

Wow. Never had Ed Davey down as a warmonger! He’s right about the vote, though.

This is the mistake every generation makes. Confusing not being warlike with being somehow weak. It's the logical reflection of the opposite assumption that men (and the women who enable them) who appear dripping with testosterone are somehow "tough", which we all know they are not.

This is the century old lie that communism (and previously Bolshevism) peddled that somehow not parading around like toy soldiers is decadent.

I would expect some more surprises, if peril appears to approach closer.

I like that - will really upset a lot of the supposed bootlickers on MN.

I hope the site is well girded against even more foreign attention.

PickAChew · 17/02/2025 15:44

It'll be as prepared as it is for anything else, @SerendipityJane 😉

Sunak has given full support to Starmer on Ukraine

In a different universe:
Badenoch praises Trump and ‘populism’ in speech warning of civilisational threats

In her ARC speech, Badenoch took aim at DEI, mass migration, “taking the knee” and claimed “some cultures are better than others”

She got one thing right. "Honesty has become impossible". As far as she's concerned she's demonstrated repeatedly that it is.

It is still an increase so you would do well to grab an umbrella

Yes but as the article points out a far smaller increase than the preceding two years and therefore IMO nothing to be proud of.

Why have you resurrected a three month old thread?
