Mumsnet really is in the sewer now. Racism, fine. Ableism, fine. Make a vague reference to another thread, WARNED!

Can I just say some absolutely sterling work being done by posters on this thread on the Trump air crash thread. 👍

I could only bear to have a brief look, but thanks to all of you combatting the hate.

De-lurking for tax purposes

That cat has the right idea.

cardibach · 30/01/2025 22:17

@pointythings your NN always makes me smile because it reminds me of a family phrase. It arose when my niece did work experience at a vets and an injured badger was brought in. She was tasked with checking it was still alive at intervals. When asked how, she said she poked it. With what? We all asked. ‘A pokey thing’ was the informative reply.
Amything vaguely pointy is referred to as a pokey thing and shall be for ever more.

Zonder · 30/01/2025 23:47

It's dark and I'm in bed with the cat on my hip so my cat tax is a bit rubbish. I took a photo but even with a flash I had to draw her on myself.

Thanks as ever for the new thread.

Happy Brexit Anniversary!

bombastix · 31/01/2025 08:44

The gift that keeps on giving, Brexit.

The only trade deal ever done to make it harder to trade. And on that score, a total success

We all knew what we were voting for - reduced investment, increased migration, and knocking 4% off GDP.

bombastix · 31/01/2025 08:58

We also voted for the Boris Johnson shit show and the absolute crumbs he brought into office.

I didn't want to leave. But we could easily have done better than we did.

Except we voted him in. Jesus

Notonthestairs · 31/01/2025 09:01

"But we could easily have done better than we did."
Yes. The Single Market was right there in front of us. What a difference that would have made.

bombastix · 31/01/2025 09:03

Don't. I hate the fact that the UK came up with the idea of the Single Market. Thatcher's idea,

Then Johnson and his remedial colleagues decided that this wasn't a good idea. The thickest government ever.

I don't think he did decide it wasn't a good idea. I don't think it was ever about Brexit for him.

bombastix · 31/01/2025 09:10

Well, collectively Johnson headed a government full of people who thought even the word Europe shouldn't be engaged with. He is totally responsible for that imo, and his self interest does not absolve him

mibbelucieachwell · 31/01/2025 09:19

Brexit's being discussed on the radio Scotland phone in discussion hour just now. A former reform candidate phoned in and the presenter has asked her if anything has got better since Brexit. After a pause she said, 'We have the right to control our currency'. I kid you not. Apparently many people still want us to use the Euro so this is a benefit.

After her contribution the presenter read out a message from a member of the public who says he didn't vote for Brexit because he was racist. No, he voted to leave the EU as a "protest vote".

Please help me lift my head out of my hands.

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2025 09:20

Our Nige is looking for true brexit believers (express article)

OP posts:
PandoraSox · 31/01/2025 09:32

@mibbelucieachwell that was claimed by a few people immediately after the referendum- they voted leave as a protest and were horrified Leave won.

Hmm.

The day after the referendum racist graffiti appeared in the loos at work. I will always remember how shocked we all were, including the Leave voters.
