He is on the front cover of Private Eye

He looks like the cat that got the cream. These old politicos can't resist. Like Cameron lobbying to be Foreign Sec when Labour were going to win the election

DS is working away for the next 48 hours and DD's at uni so I'm on my own in the house for the first time since 1997.
I keep expecting the empty nest syndrome to kick in but instead there's this weird squeaky joy.

I get that!

It has just been ds and I since he was 13 months old.

He went away for 4 nights in year 6. (And hated it!)

So next time he went away for 2 nights was nearly 3 years ago!

Since then he's been away 4 more times.

In 19 and a half years he's spent approximately 1.5 months of his life away from me.

I've treasured every single one of those night 🫢😂

Another who isn’t a total Starmer fangirl, I’m much much more left leaning I don’t understand why Rummly appears so annoyed by these threads I will never support the likes of the sainted Kemi the patron saint of liars or the brainless gobshites in the shadow cabinet.

I quite Starmer.

That's probably because I'm not particularly overarchingly leat leaning!

I don't agree with all he's done but I do believe him when he speaks and believe he is doing what he believes is best for the country and not best for Starmer.

The Tory's don't inspire the same confidence in me - despite voting them in the past.

I’m not annoyed by these threads. I enjoy reading them. I’ve never said these threads or any thread shouldn’t be partisan. I just take issue with any suggestion that they’re objective or even-handed. They’re anything but.

I only comment now and then when I think someone’s made a particularly one-eyed or hypocritical comment.

Posters on these threads regularly take up - metaphorical - cudgels against political opponents elsewhere on MN. Good for them.

As for lying pols, have a look at Labour or the SNP or the Greens. Ditto brainless gobshites. Talentless dissemblers everywhere in politics.

DuncinToffee · 06/02/2025 20:38

We are honoured to have our non objective or even-handed monitor popping in to keep us on our toes

I don't think we have ever claimed to be objective. We have opinions. They are usually somewhat left of centre. We are broadly of the opinion that the current administration, for all its flaws, is an improvement on the previous incumbents.

As for the contention that 'they're all as bad as each other' - no. They aren't. You would have to be blind not to see that.

Llttledrummergirl · 06/02/2025 20:45

The only people who say they are all as bad as each other, in my experience are the reform voting, Trump living, Yaxley adoring agitators.

That's just my experience though.

bombastix · 06/02/2025 20:45

Honestly I would rather there was less justification. I find these exhortations from our rightist posters authoritarian tbh. Policing where otherwise there is a free exchange of leftist thinking.

That is truly wishful thinking.

Sound of da police

PandoraSox · 06/02/2025 20:51

I think certain posters might prefer it if we were constantly slating Meghan Markle instead of talking about politics.

You know what, I agree with you. No more responses from me. I'm here for exchanges of opinion with like minded people who want better for the UK. No more engaging with disruption for me. I mean, if there were an equivalent series of threads on the other side of the political spectrum (rather than a single thread on a current topic), I'd keep out.

PandoraSox · 06/02/2025 20:54

It is funny how we get deleted at the drop of a hat, but others get a free pass to be rude and disruptive.

bombastix · 06/02/2025 20:55

Now your getting it @pointythings

Solidarity and the House of Pooh to you.

PandoraSox · 06/02/2025 20:57

I personally feel quite Eeyore-ish at the moment. I need to find my inner Piglet. Or maybe Tigger.

bombastix · 06/02/2025 20:59

Noooo

Do not say that @PandoraSox as this is OFFENSIVE

The house of Pooh is a clear Marxist collective and these slurs must not be tolerated

No. It's not.

Some are incompetent. Some are Idealists. Some are pragmatic. Some are rapists. Some are lazy. Some are selfish. Some are workaholics. Or alcoholics. Some are corrupt. Some are useful. Some are megalomaniacs. Some are absofuckinglutely amazing and life changing.

They are not all the same. If you don't see the differences@Rummly that's something you tell yourself. It's not real.

DuncinToffee · 06/02/2025 21:23

Things you can't avoid in life. Death, taxes and a penalty to Liverpool
