TooBigForMyBoots · 06/02/2025 21:19

No. It's not.

Some are incompetent. Some are Idealists. Some are pragmatic. Some are rapists. Some are lazy. Some are selfish. Some are workaholics. Or alcoholics. Some are corrupt. Some are useful. Some are megalomaniacs. Some are absofuckinglutely amazing and life changing.

They are not all the same. If you don't see the differences@Rummly that's something you tell yourself. It's not real.

I think the point is that you find as many frauds, deceivers and rogues - and good people - in one party as in another, not that every politician is the same as the next.

Nah, I disagree there. There's a phenomenal number of corrupt Tory MPs. Even if you scrape the barrel I do not believe there are as large a proportion of corrupt liars and cheats in the current Labour lot.

But that's me being a Starmer Uber fan and arch labour supporter eh? 😆

We’ll have to differ on that.

And that’s not me whitewashing the Tory Party: the Tory Party does indeed have lots of no-goods in it, at national and local level. I just see evidence of plenty of equally dodgy people in the Labour, SNP and other parties, at all levels.

Shall we tell her? She says she would welcome it.

Oh dear. Entirely in character too.

Still, they all said on MN how good she would be. But she is exactly what she sounds like, unclubbable, didactic, stringent and cloth eared. And rather too many holidays.. all those terrible civil servants made her look rather polished. Now she doesn't have them, she looks... bad

There are a few articles from the Jenrick side talking about aligning with Reform.

That's not true either. The last government thrived on division, fraud, lies, law breaking, corruption, cruelty, treason,(?) and divisive bullshit. Such scummy behaviour was the culture. And was rewarded.

No shiny shit was given to the security of the UK or the betterment of its citizens.

I'm in my 50s and no government, Conservative, Labour or Coalition was as destructive as the last government. They were an outlier in practically every way.

Politicians are not all the same.
Political parties are not all the same.

Notonthestairs · 06/02/2025 22:29

"There are a few articles from the Jenrick side talking about aligning with Reform."

Bringing Farage in or Jenrick jumping ship?
A joint venture would make for fun viewing - Jenrick, Badenoch, Braverman, Farage, Lowe and Tice all vying for (Leon's) attention.

Probably the only route to the Conservatives raising some cash.

And the L/Ds would be thrilled.

Notonthestairs · 06/02/2025 22:40

"I'm in my 50s and no government, Conservative, Labour or Coalition was as destructive as the last government. They were an outlier in practically every way. "

The 2019 contingent? Well when you start with illegally proroguing Parliament and follow that up with supporting Paterson and the Pritster the only way was down.

Yep. Started as they meant to go on with that stunt.

I have a 49 year old paperback copy of The House at Pooh Corner. If I opened it again, it would probably crumble to dust.

Johnson was so unprincipled, narcissistic and dishonest. He caused unspeakable damage. He made me so angry that I had to switch off the TV whenever he appeared.

Same. The last parliament hit levels of depravity I never imagined possible.

bombastix · 06/02/2025 22:49

@Notonthestairs it's appeared in the Soectator but all of it involved Badenoch being removed. Farage wants to be PM.

Badenoch is not just bad at the job, she's also poison for donors. The Conservatives are very very broke. I don't know why they chose her. Probably because Gove said she was a talent.

But she has never faced any real challenge in politics and it shows. She has had a feather bedded ascendancy for reasons connected with Cameron's wish to modernise and now she is actually being tested she proves how bad she is. She has a profound cheek in telling anyone else to work hard or do better. Most of her opponents in the last leadership election had a better pedigree in terms of actual employment and achievement than she did. They communicated better.

She is not much better than Truss. The idea she would be in charge of a whole economy is frightening. Mercifully it will never happen

My copy is in a food bag because it would literally disintegrate if anyone touched it.

Llttledrummergirl · 06/02/2025 22:59

My very well thumbed, barely holding together copy of The Christopher Robin Story Book was given to my great uncle in 1942 at Sunday school. It's been read by four generations of our family. I'm not sure what that says about us.

Notonthestairs · 06/02/2025 22:59

Very interesting. I can't imagine Jenrick playing second fiddle again - or doing it for long. But nor would he want to lead a skint Conservative Party. I suppose it will depend on whether he thinks he can draw the donors back as leader.
