Why? What is he for? It’s like the powers that be on TV desperately wants to make him… something. But he’s got no charisma, no wit, no discernible talent and as proven on WWTBAM just now, very little in the way of brains.

I am quite baffled.

Well Rob Beckett is going, to be replaced by Zoe Ball on Sundays. I enjoyed Sean Keaveney standing in today. Honestly some of the current roster just show how good the likes of Jo Whiley and Gary Davies are. I like OJ Borg too. And Spooney.

I thought Zoe was taking over Saturday before Rylan?

RaraRachael · 17/03/2025 14:41

I thought Zoe is taking over Saturday 1 to 3 and the old charts show is moving to a different slot.

CountryQueen · 17/03/2025 14:58

Yeah, pretty certain Zoe is going to Saturday. I didn’t enjoy Shaun K last night, constantly repeating himself about Rob leaving and Tony’s “pipes”.

wholettheturnipsburn · 17/03/2025 15:50

Much as Richie Anderson was irritating, just replacement is a whole new level of awful

she speaks as if she has a permanently bunged up nose and talks a load of shite.

read the travel love. We don't care about your opinions

SirChenjins · 17/03/2025 17:58

@wholettheturnipsburn Ive stopped listening to Scott Mills - does she also do the travel on Vernon’s show? She’s got a northern English accent?

RaraRachael · 17/03/2025 21:12

Yes she's on Vernon's show too so double the irritation factor. I find on SM's show she really tries to big up her part and get more involved.

SirChenjins · 17/03/2025 22:08

Glad I’m not listening to SM then! You have to wonder where they’re getting these people from.

Appalonia · 17/03/2025 22:16

I really loved listening to Trevor Nelson at 10 pm. Loved the music, him and 5 Seconds to Name. Even got on the show last year after guessing it correctly! I really don't like his afternoon show, too much of the same boring music that's on every single show AND bloody Ritchie! I just don't bother listening to it now and I LOVED Trevor's late night show!

Luddite26 · 18/03/2025 06:47

Radio 2 these days it's like a constant revolving door.
Greatest Hits Radio Saturday 1 till 3pm Claire Sturgess - fantastic DJ. Knows her stuff and doesn't drone on about herself very personable.

PuppyMonkey · 18/03/2025 07:20

Zoe Ball is moving to the Pick of the Pops slot on Saturday 1-3pm and Pick of the Pops is moving to Sunday 5-7pm - Rob Beckett is going (thank Gawd). POTP at that time is supposed to be replicating the old chart shown on radio one or something.

Can’t say I’m very chuffed at the thought of Zoe gushing around for two hours on Saturday tbh.

BunnyRuddington · 18/03/2025 07:21

Luddite26 · 26/01/2025 22:13

I could do a dissertation on how Radio 2 was stolen from it's listener's!
As a child it was always on I went to radio 1 in 1984 off my own bar Steve Wright etc
Virgin in the 90s then in 1998 I returned home to Radio 2 age 26! Ready to head into the sunset.
But no something happened in the 2010s and I will never return one by one people were picked off and hung out to dry. It is an alien place to me now. I'm younger than Zoe Ball but her shrieking ladish now mumsie anecdotes has never gelled with me.
I like Jo Whiley but when they put her on With Simon Mayo it was excruciating for them both. Then we went off on a classical tangent and I had to turn Ken Bruce off for Scala. I felt pretty homeless being a radio obsessive. I still feel aggrieved by it.
Sorry sometimes it just comes over me.
And breathe.

Trevor Nelson with Ritchie Anderson reminds me of when they made Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley co-presenters without actually testing properly how that would work, which it obviously didn’t.

it feels as though Ritchie has been promoted well past his talent level, I have no idea why. Trevor seems more relaxed in the days that Ritchie isn’t around.

Appalonia · 18/03/2025 07:33

Trevor Nelson and OJ Borg would make a great double act, They used to have great banter with each other late at night, and they seemed to genuinely like each other. It was very funny to listen to!

Nickinoo30 · 18/03/2025 07:39

I’m not enjoying Trevor either, the music is not great and its really boring. I need energy to keep me going at that time and this show does not have it. Any suggestions for another station until Sarah Cox comes on?

Dogmatix34 · 18/03/2025 07:45

I used to feel the same about Richie but since hearing his replacement (can’t bear her voice) and seeing him on SO many shows, weakest link, apprentice you’re fired etc., I’m starting to warm to him.

Applepe · 18/03/2025 07:55

Ritchie Anderson is awful. No charm, no charisma. He said that achieved a grade A in his History GCSE. Either he lied on his CV, or the education system in this country is more fucked than we realise.

I'm not sure what his history GCSE has got to do with how he comes across on the radio! Confused

What? Maybe he's brighter than his persona let's on? Maybe he really loves history?

maltravers · 18/03/2025 09:53

I think the issue is that the Beeb is treating DJing not as the skilled job that it is and should be, but as somewhere to put “celebrities”, comics or wannabes while a dullsville playlist is churned out in the background. The result is poor.

comics feed off the energy in the room and I imagine radio is a dark void for them. Rob B just sounds inane and desperate to me (maybe he is desperate) he’s fine on TV doing his comedian thing. Stick to that Rob!

LadyDanburysHat · 18/03/2025 09:59

I do wonder if OJ Borg likes doing nights, as I don't understand why he is not on a more favourable show. I always enjoy when he covers.

CrushingOnRubies · 18/03/2025 10:16

quite liked it when Zoe did the Saturday afternoon slot. So hopefully it will be similar

like idea of pick of the pops on a Sunday afternoon/evening. It’s when I’m pottering around getting ready for the week ahead so like the radio as background noise

MantleStatue · 18/03/2025 10:18

DH and I often comment that the BBC takes a shine to someone and then just flog them everywhere no matter what their actual skill set is. Amol Rajan is another for me who I find annoyingly ubiquitous and Clarie Balding for DH.

TBF though if I were in the position of being repeatedly offered lucrative jobs I'd be going for it hard.

RaraRachael · 18/03/2025 11:36

I wasn't wild about Zoe on the breakfast slot but I did enjoy her and Richie together.
I'd have them back 100 times over rather than have to endure the current combination

LadyLucksalot · 18/03/2025 13:43

I really miss the glory days of Radio 2. Terry in the morning, Lynn Bowles reading the traffic: providing information, reasonable level of wit and able to respond appropriately, Ken ... Jeremy Vine used to be amazing! Now it's like an audio Daily Mail.

Now it's as though they're absolutely determined to flush out any remaining loyal listeners and flog their current signing to within an inch of my last nerve.

DJing is an art - it really is. The current lot have no idea. It doesn't feel as though they're engaging with the listener - it's just blah blah and an over the top self-awareness of their so-called 'celebrity' status. It's no longer a one-to-one feel - it's one-to-many of unquestioning groupies. Like standing with a megaphone and shouting about how brilliant they are, rather than talking over the phone.

This is already longer than I intended.

I don't listen any more. Radio 4 is a much better bet.

Has he?

He has an awful radio voice. And I'm not keen on strong regional accents on a national radio station.

Mind you, his replacement in the mornings (Ellie?) sounds like she has a permanent head cold - so nasal. I don't understand why anybody thought she has a good voice for radio.

Completely agree with you on Ellie. I said to DH she sounds like she has a permanent cold.
