Why? What is he for? It’s like the powers that be on TV desperately wants to make him… something. But he’s got no charisma, no wit, no discernible talent and as proven on WWTBAM just now, very little in the way of brains.

I am quite baffled.

I really like him. You guys are so harsh.

LostittoBostik · 26/01/2025 23:00

Had to google him. What's he been on? Don't think I've ever seen him before. Maybe once in something like The Wheel?

TinyMouseTheatre · 26/01/2025 23:01

He must be doing something behind the scenes that makes him pop Mylar with the Execs at the Beeb. He's certainly not getting jobs in his talent. He seems nice enough but not enough talent to be doing more than the traffic.

LostittoBostik · 26/01/2025 23:03

On radio 2 - not really something I hear apart from occasionally Zoe Ball or Sarah Cox when driving. And as a recovering 90s teen ladette I love to hear their voices.

UnderTheStairs51 · 26/01/2025 23:03

He's the radio equivalent of Alex Scott.

Perhaps if you just gave him time to increase fairly slowly like Owain (who my mum was obsessed with as a regional weather presenter for years previously) or even Rylan who much as he is now everywhere, did earn his stripes on Big Brother's big mouth type work.

I remember channel flicking when in from the pub and watching Rylan dealing with a probably intoxicated audience at about 1am and being surprised how good he was as it was a tough gig.

I don't particularly dislike Alex or Ritchie as such but they both appear totally out of their depth and I don't understand how either of them gets lifted to the next level and the next without first mastering any of the lower ones.

And that is why they get such a backlash because it really doesn't feel earned.

CrushingOnRubies · 26/01/2025 23:04

Quite liked RA when we was the traffic guy but then he's started being the go to man for stand ins. You don't hear Sally, Bobbie or Lynn doing other presenting. I think they might do local radio. But not on radio 2. The most you have have as an extra from Sally is "Sally's lifeline" on couch potato quiz with Rylan

Stay in your lane Ritchie. Literally.

BoogieBox · 26/01/2025 23:05

Who is tuning in for Scott Mills first breakfast show tomorrow?

Nourishinghandcream · 26/01/2025 23:06

A man who is totally without talent or charisma and why he is pushed on us (both radio and TV) I have no comprehension.😖

Used to love R2 but in recent years I find myself flicking stations when more and more of the presenters come on but yes, R.Anderson is up there with J.Vine for having a voice that makes me want to throw the radio out of the window.

Theresacatinmykitchenwhatamigonnado · 26/01/2025 23:07

He's ok, but doesn't have the oopmh to be more than he is. I'm glad he isn't going to be on with skivey fucker Scott, or we would have a lot more of him (however, I shall not be tuning in on Monday, wtf were the big bosses thinking?)

CrushingOnRubies · 26/01/2025 23:07

Me! When I get to work.

fruitpastille · 26/01/2025 23:07

He seems like a nice person and I don't mind a short snippet but I agree about a whole show. Mind you I don't like Scott Mills either. I want to like Sara Cox but I wish she would be a little calmer - she's great on her book club programme and I'd prefer that persona on radio. Love Dermot and Romesh. Vernon is ok but I'm bored of the quiz and he can be a bit too sentimental. Bring back Graham Norton and Claudia! And Simon Mayo (wishful thinking). I can't stand the ads on greatest hits and the music is so samey.

Is there a dearth of gay men on the BBC? I wasn’t aware there was an issue with their representation.

There are fewer black gay men represented.
Even fewer black gay men in football.

Threeandahalf · 26/01/2025 23:09

I don't really understand the role of the traffic bulletin person. Are they literally just there to do traffic? Must be , going off the name of sally traffic. Is that such a key job? I find it so weird !
Then every so often they get their own show!
Ritchie seems nice but he agrees with every comment that's made to him.

Me.

Haven't listened to Zoe's breakfast show much but loved it when Scott was doing it.

fanaticalfairy · 26/01/2025 23:11

Missing the point, but I have absolutely no clue why they do the travel news.
Like what's the point of telling the entire nation that Junction 120 of the M402 is backed up from an accident?

Not me. He sounds bored and boring.
His voice is so monotonous. He never sounds interested or animated.

I'll wait until 9.30 for Vernon Kay.

LadyGAgain · 26/01/2025 23:14

I love Richie.
I don't like mean threads. Picking on a person because you don't like them seems petty and sad.

It's useful approx 5 times a year.

But what annoys me is say they mention J27 M5 is slow. And you're heading in that direction, they don't mention the incident for another 1hr30 and you have no idea whether it's cleared or not and what's happening . And you're driving alone so can't check phone or anything. Before DAB radio was standard the local bbc travel news cut in which was handy.

Do you never drive more than 3 miles from where you live?

I do a lot of motorway driving, and traffic bulletins that mention incidents 50 or 100 miles away might be relevant to me and many other drivers.

I still get local radio stations breaking in with traffic updates. I just listen to FM radio as DAB radio in my car doesn't work because the signal is so poor.

I have satnav that avoids the queues and automatically reroutes...
Surely most people have those??

Rightsraptor · 26/01/2025 23:25

The BBC has form for this: they take a barely-talented individual, like Ritchie Anderson & Jason Manford before him, and shoe horn them into any number of unsuitable roles. They did it with Alan Titchmarsh too, who is at least an OK gardening presenter, but they got him presenting the Proms, ffs. Excruciating.

TinyMouseTheatre · 26/01/2025 23:26

I'm usually at work when he's on but on the few occasions I've listened to him, I've not warmed to him at all.
