Liam Payne for me I’ve loved one direction since I was 4 years old

OP posts:

Michael Mosley - his books on intermittent fasting and diet completely revolutionised my approach to food, and for the first time in 40 years I got a handle on my weight and ability to maintain it. I'm incredibly grateful.
It seems such a sin that he died that way and on his own.

Liam Paynes death has affected me the most because aside from being so young, the more info that comes out about it, the darker it gets. All the pictures of the hotel room and the body released within hours of his death was one of the most disturbing things I’ve seen unfold online/in the media.

Michael Mosley

Yes Michael Mosley. He was so present everywhere and it was such an awful death.

APushbikeNamedReluctance · 19/01/2025 08:38

I don't think ive ever been devastated, but people i can think of off the top of my head, who I'm sad they were so talented at their career:

Caroline Ahern
Paul Ritter
Alan Rickman
Victoria Wood
Maggie Smith

Hepzibar · 19/01/2025 08:38

Alan Rickman
Victoria Wood
Terry Wogan

Bananaramad · 19/01/2025 08:34

Bowie
Paul O Grady
Sean Hughes
Terry Hall
I thought how Cilla Black died was awful although her actual death didn't effect me.

I’d just come on to say Terry Hall too. I can’t really explain why but I always think of him on this kind of thread.

Jeremy Hardy is the other one that always springs to mind.

Jennyathemall · 19/01/2025 08:41

None really. When I hear about one my typical reaction is “omg such and such has died” but I’ll have moved on 60 sec later. I and you don’t know any of these people really so there is no strong emotional connection.

@Trixiefirecracker

Lori Mattix lost her virginity to Bowie when she was 15. Some sources say she was only 13. m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/columnists/fionola-meredith/david-bowie-no-hero-for-sleeping-with-kids-but-he-was-no-gary-glitter-either/34385617.html

Posters on here worshipping him is sickening.

RampantIvy · 19/01/2025 08:43

Most of the people already mentioned. Kirsty MacColl went to my school and was killed in front of her sons. It was an utter shock.

So much talent lost too soon.

John Peel was a sleazebag

lemmein · 19/01/2025 08:43

Princess Diana - not devastated, but really shocked and sad by the way she died.

Badbadbunny · 19/01/2025 08:45

Olivia Newton John. I grew up in the early 70s with her on tv on Saturday evenings and always admired her - a true girl next door with a lovely personality and one of the greatest singing voices. Over the decades I followed her and all the good causes she supported and her donations and fund raising for her cancer hospital in Melbourne. I was absolutely devastated when she died even though all her fans knew it was coming after 30/years of battling cancer herself.

MadeofCoffee · 19/01/2025 08:05

I really miss Sean Lock.

I was coming on to say Sean Lock!

Hoppingabout · 19/01/2025 08:46

George Michael too. He was so gorgeous and lovely and modest. All the things about his immense kindness that came out about him after he died.

antsypants · 19/01/2025 08:47

Bill Hicks, even today I wonder what he would have to say about the absolute shit show the world is now.

Hoppingabout · 19/01/2025 08:48

My teenage self was definitely devastated about River Phoenix. My future husband and he never knew.

hattie43 · 19/01/2025 08:48

Princess Diana . A massive shock . I was transfixed to the telly the whole day in disbelief.

Yes! Massive fan back in the day and soooo young when he died. We still quote him often in this house 😢

TheCityIgnites · 19/01/2025 08:30

Chester Bennington such a shock

This. The only celebrity death that made me really sad. Linkin Park were my teenage years and I still love them now.

KnickerlessParsons · 19/01/2025 08:51

Terry Wogan. A very funny man.

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 19/01/2025 08:51

Sean Lock for me, too.

Posters on here didn’t know these things when they became Bowie fans 40 years ago.
I’m old enough to have enjoyed Gary Glitter’s music, obviously the man is disgusting with hindsight but 50 years ago he was selling out everywhere.

Please tell us now all the people we shouldn’t like because one day they will be unmasked as sexual predators.

And I still like Bowie’s music.

Elasticatedtrousers · 19/01/2025 08:53

Heath Ledger
Taylor Hawkins

guccibag · 19/01/2025 08:53

David Lynch. His films are the only ones that really made me think, and dream. It's refreshing to have art that isnt tied up nicely with a bow at the end. He was never focused on the answers in life but more concerned with the questions we ask and I love that. I am so very sad he is gone.

mitogoshigg · 19/01/2025 08:54

Devastated is too strong a word, but all of these youngsters who made bad choices with drugs etc is upsetting, the people around them should have intervened and protected them

Laserwho · 19/01/2025 08:55

not a celebrity himself but I remember being devastated when Eric Clapton's little boy Connor died, it was so tragic and inspired him to write tears in heaven. Also little Heather O Rourke 😞 such a waste.
