Liam Payne for me I’ve loved one direction since I was 4 years old

Think I must be a cold bitch because no celebrity death has ever devastated me. Have been shocked by the manner of death, saddened that an amazing talent is no longer amongst us (Joan Plowright or Maggie Smith etc) but devastated?

No, that strength of feeling is reserved for real people in my life, such as my and DH’s BFF who died of a brain tumour at 52 after a harrowing three years of surgeries and cognitive decline.

stealthninjamum · 19/01/2025 08:04

The person I felt most affected by was Peaches Geldof, even though I knew next to nothing about her before she died. I think knowing she had a young child, who I think might’ve been with her, and would have struggled from her mum dying in similar circumstances. I really felt for that family.

jasjas3008 · 19/01/2025 08:05

Joey Dunlop, he was our families hero and we thought he'd live for ever, he was just so cool, a pint of beer, a fag, working on his own engines, the night before a race.

I was devasted.

MadeofCoffee · 19/01/2025 08:05

I really miss Sean Lock.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 19/01/2025 08:07

Paul o'Grady was incredibly kind.

Sandylittleknees · 19/01/2025 08:13

Never devastated as I didn’t know them but sad for many, especially if they died to young, and particularly comedians as they made people laugh.
recently Michael Moseley as he seemed such a nice man who really helped lots of people improve their lives.
rik mayal
amy winehouse
this week - Tony slattery

I was most sad about the queen as she was such a constant source of stability and decency and i had met her a couple of times.

BananaNirvana · 19/01/2025 08:16

Sean Lock definitely - such a talent to die so young.

Michael Moseley too - the unfairness of it seemed extraordinary 😢

Icequeen01 · 19/01/2025 08:17

Steve Wright - felt like I grew up with him. We went to the same school.
Paul O' Grady - Such a kind spirit

Noperope · 19/01/2025 08:21

I was sad to read about Paul Danan last week. I had a huge crush on him when I was younger and we are the same age. So sad as he could have had so many more years ahead of him.

Outtaxed · 19/01/2025 08:21

Caroline Aherne and Victoria Wood — just two massively talented comedy writers and performers, who both sadly died too young from cancer.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2025 08:23

For me it'll be George Michael
Never met him, but he seemed one of the good guys and so generous with his money and time
Beautiful voice.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/01/2025 08:24

Kirsty MacColl
Victoria Wood
Adrian Henri

Annoyingsquirrels · 19/01/2025 08:25

I think devastated is too strong a word for me but I was saddened when David Bowie, Sean Lock and Michael Mosely died.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 19/01/2025 08:26

Kurt Cobain
Bowie
Prince

bluejelly · 19/01/2025 08:26

namechangedtemporarily123 · 19/01/2025 07:28

Prince and George Michael

These were my two as well. So much original talent. Amy Whitehouse is another.

Youvebeenframed · 19/01/2025 08:27

Caroline Flack’s death affected me more than I thought it would 💔

WinterFoxes · 19/01/2025 08:27

MadeofCoffee · 19/01/2025 08:05

I really miss Sean Lock.

I never knew him but have a lot of friends who worked with him and every one of them was devastated and said he was the nicest man in comedy. FB was full of anecdotes of how he'd helped people on their way up. He sounded so lovely.

itsallbowlsbaby · 19/01/2025 08:27

Amy Winehouse. I remember crying watching the news.

REDB99 · 19/01/2025 08:28

River Phoenix and Kurt Cobain but I was a teenager so think that had a lot to do with it.

More recently Dave Myers, he was one of the good guys. I’ve found myself upset at times which has surprised me, a reminder of how awful and unfair cancer is.

OnePeppyDenimHelper · 19/01/2025 08:28

David Bowie

TheCityIgnites · 19/01/2025 08:30

Chester Bennington such a shock

HardenYourHeart · 19/01/2025 08:30

None.

I feel sympathy for their loved ones and I feel a little sad if someone died before their time (whether famous or not). But I don't know these people. It's not my personal loss.

Scorpion84 · 19/01/2025 08:30

Heath ledger

Bananaramad · 19/01/2025 08:34

Bowie
Paul O Grady
Sean Hughes
Terry Hall
I thought how Cilla Black died was awful although her actual death didn't effect me.

Sherararara · 19/01/2025 08:35

Crocsake · 19/01/2025 07:51

None really. I find it sad when people die, especially if they were young but I don’t have the personal connection to someone I’ve never met enough to be devastated.

Maybe I’m just cold, but I don’t really feel that bad when people lose their grandparents either (unless they were more like a parent to them).
