Amy Winehouse. I wasn't even a big fan but she just seemed like a sweet girl who was lost.

This. It was like watching a disaster in slow motion.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 19/01/2025 12:16

Only really Terry Pratchett. Not just his death but the Alzheimer's that meant he slowly lost that wonderful talent for words that made him so special. I think his actual death was him going in the manner he wanted, but losing him left a huge hole in the literary community. But we'd lost him before we 'lost him'.

😪

Absolutely

And it still upsets me today. Such a huge loss. And it's a wicked disease for anyone but it did seem especially cruel

I properly cried real tears when The Queen died, I’m ex army and I swore an oath to her at one time. It meant a great deal to me so I suppose it was all tied up with that.

I wasn’t a huge fan of her or her mother really but Peaches Geldof really shocked me. She’d gone the exact same route as her Mum and I thought about that quite a lot.

Also Paul Walker, I loved him in a movie called Eight Below, never really watched the fast and furious movie franchise. I couldn’t comprehend how he’d just got in a car, there was even footage of it him smiling and entering the car, and minutes later on a perfectly normal, well maintained road in a city, was dead.

MissSookieStackhouse · 19/01/2025 12:22

Michael Mosley.

Newsenmum · 19/01/2025 12:23

Definitely Liam. I was a bit old but I remember watching him on x fact when he was a kid. Then watched them grow up. Then seeing him go is just far too depressing. Like a lamb raised for slaughter.

Newsenmum · 19/01/2025 12:24

For some reason Jade Goody shocked me. I think as she was so public and then she died so quickly, made me realise how it could happen to anyone. I was young at the time so first time I realised how it could happen. And Peaches was shocking.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 19/01/2025 12:29

Maeve Kennedy and her little boy. Devastated too strong a word but it was awful and could have easily been prevented.

Absolutely. She was a wonderful woman. I was lucky enough to see her live. Her books are fantastic and she has two on Audible that she narrates herself. Her autobiography spoken by her own voice is even more moving than just reading it. She went through so much and told her story brilliantly. Love you Janey

She was an awful woman. Mocking the disabled does not make you wonderful in my eyes.

PotaytoPotahhto · 19/01/2025 12:35

Robin Williams, because he brought so much joy through his films but was actually really depressed.

Chadwick Boseman, because he was terminally ill but told no one and carried on filming.

Rik Mayall, simply because he was a gem.

Freddie Mercury. He was before my time but The Show Must Go On is one of my favourite songs and he wrote it knowing he was dying, so I can’t listen to it now without thinking about his passing.

Only David Bowie - I grieved his passing

This.

Weirdly.

It seems like not just his death but an end to a broader era though.

MrsALambert · 19/01/2025 12:36

Victoria Wood. She felt like a member of our family in a strange way. I saw her live 3 times and have everything she has ever done on DVD still. I really felt like she had more to give. So upsetting.

PotOfViolas · 19/01/2025 12:40

I found Caroline Aherne's writing hilarious and I was gutted when I realised there wouldn't be any more of it. I'd love to have seen what she'd have written next.

I love That Day we Sang.

BigDecisionWorthIt · 19/01/2025 12:43

There's been a few.

Dimebag was so out of the blue and a massive shock.

Chester Bennington. Was a teen and grew up on Linkin Park.

Paul Walker. Again my generation, grew up watching the Fast franchise. That last scene in Fast 7 was a tear jerker for sure.

Not a celebrity, but a child of a musician. Skyler Neil. No matter how many times I've read The Dirt or watched the movie, I will bawl my eyes out.

Bbq1 · 19/01/2025 12:48

George Michael. I've been a fan from his early Wham days. A lovely, kind and generous man with an incredible, almost unmatched talent for singing and songwriting. Their are fewer and fewer true artists and musicians like George around these days. All these pop stars like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa and T Swift have their moment (if that's your thing) but they will never, ever have the longevity and certainly not the talent of people like George.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 19/01/2025 12:52

Sean Lock..Never failed to put a smile on my face

Gianluca Vialli. Loved him during his time at Chelsea. Given the all clear and then it came back..just came across such a lovely person and his tribute match was touching to

IMustDoMoreExercise · 19/01/2025 12:55

I have been upset about a lot of deaths, but only cried when I heard Princess Diana had died.

StrawberryHoney · 19/01/2025 12:57

Bowie, I don't think I'll ever get over it.

AustralianCrunch · 19/01/2025 12:59

Heath Ledger
Amy Winehouse
Meatloaf

peachystormy · 19/01/2025 13:11

Michael Mosley I was so upset

RitaIncognita · 19/01/2025 13:16

Devastated is too strong a word, but I continue to feel a real sadness for the loss of Robin Williams, especially considering the circumstances. Besides being spectacularly talented, by all accounts, he was a really lovely and kind person.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 19/01/2025 13:17

I watched the documentary about Christopher Reeves the other day and was really saddened about him, Dana and Robin Williams who appeared a lot.

Clariceamelia · 19/01/2025 13:18

Freddie and Paul O'Grady outstanding humans
