Liam Payne for me I’ve loved one direction since I was 4 years old

It seems like not just his death but an end to a broader era though.

Bowie for me too, and for this reason I think. It's weird, as while I do love his stuff I'm a bit too young to have grown up with him and I'm not usually especially affected by celebrity deaths, but his death felt particularly poignant and significant, like it was drawing a line under something. The timing of it too - happened right at the start of the year that saw Brexit and Trump, and heralded a period of particularly tragic celebrity deaths, one after the other: Alan Rickman, Victoria Wood, Leonard Cohen, George Michael... Bowie going was sad in itself, but (to me) it also felt symbolic of something deeper.

Carrie Fisher

Leonard Nimoy

Twaddlepip · 19/01/2025 14:08

Rik Mayall, Terry Wogan, David Bowie.

Brittany Murphy
Liam Payne at the time even though I hardly knew him/wasn't a OD fan.
Darius Danesh was sad.
Caron Keating was tragic & the first celebrity death I remember.
Then Roy Castle. So unfair.
River Phoenix put me off drugs.
Glenn Quinn, it's hard to now watch both Roseanne & Angel he was in. I loved both those shows.
Lena Zavaroni. Made anorexia terrifying.
I think Lisa Lopez would have been Beyoncé.
Heath Ledger would have become probably the leading actor of his generation.
I think Grace Kelly & Audrey Hepburn would have achieved more had they had the opportunity to live to their 90s.

Dieter Brummer & Ben Unwin who were Shane & Jesse in home & away in the 90s both died by suicide. Made me realise early fame/stardom isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Vanessa Marquez who played nurse Wendy in early ER seasons was shot by police! Awful, and seemingly no accountability.

Before my time but Jean Harlow & Vivian Leigh had lives cut short that would surely would t not have happened with modern medical treatment.

Matthew Perry. Makes the 'I'm going to die alone' friends episode feel prophetic.

OverthinkingOlive · 19/01/2025 15:10

Michael Jackson and Princess Diana

lazyarse123 · 19/01/2025 15:26

None. Sadness probably that someone has died either by accident, illness or just at a relatively young age. Devastation no why would I?
I have a friend who is so ott when someone dies whether she knows them or not. She is excellent at performance grieving. Eg: her mil died over 10 years ago and every birthday on Facebook it's "happy heavenly birthday you would have been 105", why does she do it? Who is it for if not to tell people that she's oh so caring.

CienAnosDeSoledad · 19/01/2025 15:29

Chris Cornell. He (well, his music) was a massive part of my life and helped me heal during some really really dark times. I had lots of mental health issues, deep depression, suicide attempts, self-harming and it's as if his music spoke to me. Helped me a lot. When he killed himself, I cried for days and grieved as if I knew him. Weird, I know. But that's how it felt.

No other celeb comes close. I do feel a sad when they die, George Michael, Chester Bennington, but ultimately it doesn't affect me.

hoarahloux · 19/01/2025 16:22

I cried when Ian Holm died.

Meredusoleil · 19/01/2025 16:34

Has anyone mentioned Bruce Forsyth? I grew up watching him on Play your cards right and The Generation Game, so was sad to hear of his passing even though he wasn't a young man.

Michael Mosley

Me too. I was so very sad when he died. It played on my mind for a very long time afterwards.
I was a bit sad and discombobulated when the Queen died.
And Oliver Sacks. I have loved all his books and he inspired and fascinated me.

@Trixiefirecracker

Lori Mattix lost her virginity to Bowie when she was 15. Some sources say she was only 13. m.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/opinion/columnists/fionola-meredith/david-bowie-no-hero-for-sleeping-with-kids-but-he-was-no-gary-glitter-either/34385617.html

Posters on here worshipping him is sickening.

I’m not sure why you tagging me!

BobbiJo · 19/01/2025 19:24

Rik Mayall has been the only one.

The world just hasn't been as bright since the day he left it. I never met him, didn't know him, but I miss him everyday in a weird way.

chickensaresafehere · 19/01/2025 19:48

Patrick Swayze & Chris Cornell

ClearHoldBuild · 19/01/2025 19:55

The one’s that have upset me were
Helen McCrory
Michael Hutchence

the one’s that I find difficult to believe are
Bernard Hill
Tom Wilkinson

Trixiefirecracker · 20/01/2025 10:04

I was a bit upset when I heard Tony Slattery had died. I love Who’s Line is it Anyway and everyone on it. It was part of my childhood. Not devastated , just sad that another very talented person had passed.I had no idea he had so many demons.

HibiscusIsland1 · 20/01/2025 10:43

Michael Hutchence - devastated.

George Michael - equally devastated.

Both were really important to me in my youth and their untimely deaths really shocked and saddened me.

Diana Rigg, and a few others already mentioned on here

I met Diana Rigg her as we shared the same doctor. She was unspoilt, very pleasant. Also Barry Humphreys. I had dinner at his house with three other people. One was a very attractive women. I tried to flirt with her. Very embarrassing: she was his wife.He said nothing - a real gentlemen whereas I was a clown.

helenatroy · 07/07/2025 20:04

Michael Mosley, George Michael and Caroline Aherne.

SickOfTheUK · 13/12/2025 01:55

Richard Darbyshire. Oh my God how I loved that man he was so GORGEOUS! His voice was amazing as well and he was painfully underrated. I was a baby in 1987 but love Living in a Box and Richard

Hogglehedge · 19/12/2025 15:10
