If you're 5ft5 at what weight do you feel slim?

Am coming to the end of a long weightloss journey and have come further than I originally thought I would and still don't feel quite satisfied.

I'm wondering if I have a warped sense of slim due to the fact I was close to 250lbs for many years.

So I am asking the question above to gauge :)

I find it fascinating too. I'm also 63, 5'5 and 8 stone. I'm a size 6, despite having a rounded bottom. It must come down to frame size.

That is so interesting, bodies really are amazing!

coxesorangepippin · 07/01/2025 14:10

Like many on here, 9 stone 7 would be great

But that's really hard to achieve and takes a lot of restriction, which I'm not really willing to do

Got down to that weight a few years ago and yes, I felt good but it's so hard eating salads etc all the time

coxesorangepippin · 07/01/2025 14:11

I definitely think it’s about frame and weight distribution. My legs are always stick thin. Even when I’ve weighed two stone heavier they are thin. My arms get fat, my stomach gets big and I have back fat, but the legs remain the same.

^

Whereas my legs still meet at the top at 9 stone 7

And arms are always bigger

Tummy is flat though (or looks it, due to big boobs)

ThoroughlyModernNotMillie · 07/01/2025 14:20

Normal BMI for that height is about 7.10 to 10.10, so to be slim you'd need to be near the lower end. I felt slim in my younger days at about 8 to 8.5, about 9.7 to 10 feels ok to me now but I don't feel slim, I just feel reasonable, it makes me around size 12 which is fine.

I'm the heaviest I've ever been postpartum and 62kg also 5'5'' and size 8 jeans are loose around the bum and waist. Literally just my thighs holding them up! When I'm 55kg, size 6 is too big.

All I can offer to explain my size 10 bottom (at 50kg) is that I do cycle up a lot of hills!

Exactly. Anything under 9st, whilst still being a normal BMI is going to be slimmish.

Journeyintomelody · 07/01/2025 15:13

I run, hence the lack of bottom 🤦

I run. I have a bottom.

Now I feel slim at 11 st (with regular Pilates/swimming etc), but probably wouldn't feel really slim until nearer 10 st. Maybe it is comparison as I've been much bigger and now in my fifties.
I know I felt fat at 11 st in my twenties, but slim enough at 10 st. At 18 I felt quite big at 10 st and slim at more like 9 st.

ohpoowhatnow · 07/01/2025 15:44

Under 9 st

ethelredonagoodday · 07/01/2025 15:45

Not RTFT, but I feel like a bloody hefalump reading this! I am currently the fattest I've ever been (peri and generally eating and drinking too much) at over 14 stones right now. I do look chunky, but not massive, I think I must carry the weight fairly well. 😵‍💫

Thinnest I have been in my adult life was when I turned 40 and I got down to about 10 and a half stone. I was eating really well and exercising regularly. I felt and looked a bit scrawny though and am probably happiest at about 11ish stone. I don't honestly think I could have got much lower than that without some sort of starvation! We are all fairly thick set in my family.

I have to sort myself out now though, so I've got some work to do this year! 🤦🏼‍♀️

hamsandyams · 07/01/2025 15:47

5’4” and feel slim at between 50-55kg. Currently just over 9 stone and for the first time in my life look like I’m carrying more weight than is right for my frame.

I’m currently 58kg (after being 50kg from being 18-30) and trading in all my size 6s and small 8s for big 8s and 10s .. but when I measure on websites my waist size is 14 and my hips are 6-8… so I am carrying a lot (mostly bloat) around my tummy which is throwing out my clothes sizing!

Sockmate123 · 07/01/2025 17:18

All the people saying 9 stone or under, i must have a different frame or heavy bones or something, i would look ill if I lost a stone and a half. I'm 10 stone 10 at mo and I do want to lose about half a stone but no more. I was that weight last Summer and a couple of people gently told me I looked a little too thin...5ft 5 and 9 stone is a little too thin in my view

Grumplechops · 07/01/2025 17:35

5ft4 10st 3 and size12 (in my 50s). probably look OKish but always used to be a stable 9st give or take a few pounds and able to eat what I wanted. I don’t necessarily feel overweight but I’m depressed by photos of me. Menopause is a pain in the arse. I would like to get to 9st 4lb but it just seems impossible to shift any weight.

SeanMean · 07/01/2025 17:39

8 and a half stone for me. I’m currently 8st 12 and my face is chubby and my tummy feels pudgy.

I’m top heavy though and am definitely slim on my lower half.

Mifiee · 07/01/2025 19:38

MyStylish40s · 07/01/2025 08:57

I’m 5ft 4, and like to be 9 stone 2lbs. At 9 stone, my face looks too gaunt (banging body though) 🤣

I was 10 stone 6 a year ago, which was far too heavy for me.

Edit: I’m probably 9.5 stone now, after Christmas. I’ll have it lost by dieting for the next 2-3 weeks

Edited

I find this really interesting if it isn't a typo!

9st2 you're happy but at 9st you look gaunt?

I am always 3lbs heavier in the evenings. I fluctuatedaily by 3lbs. I don't think a 2lb difference would even register never mind be the difference between happy and gaunt.

Isn't that like the weight of a good poo? 🤣

I'm 5ft 6 inches and have recently dropped from 12st 8lbs down to 10st 7lbs. I feel very much slimmer but not slender at all. I am small boned with narrow hips and zero muscle tone, though.

I think I could easily lose another 14lbs but my neck is already starting to go scrawny.

At 10.10 you are at the maximum weight for normal BMI. The minimum weight is about 7.10, so 9 stones is just over midway, it's not too thin at all.
I really do think that these days, because about half the population is overweight, people have lost sight of what slim actually is.

Itcantgetanycolder · 08/01/2025 11:35

As I said earlier, my weight is carried entirely on my stomach and back. I seem to be the only one of my friends who are similar weight to have back fat below the bra and creases of fat above my waist. My legs are chicken thin, stomach flat at the moment but the back fat lives on …

Yes I know that, that's why I would like to lose about half a stone or even 10 stone. I've never been 7 stone 10 and as a 20 year old at 8ish stone I was advised to put on weight by GP. I was ill looking.
I have heard Doctors talk about limitations of BMI, muscle weighs more that fat etc. My friend is similar height to me but very toned, gym bunny but is heavier but that's due to muscle. However on these measurements she would be overweight or even obese when she is clearly not...

SunshineShower9812 · 10/01/2025 05:14

I'm 5ft 5. The lightest I've been is 9st 4 and even then I didn't feel particularly slim, but probably would have done if I was more toned!

Pinkyponkz · 10/01/2025 05:18

I agree 8.5-9 stone

tolerable · 10/01/2025 05:45

8st 3
