If you're 5ft5 at what weight do you feel slim?

Am coming to the end of a long weightloss journey and have come further than I originally thought I would and still don't feel quite satisfied.

I'm wondering if I have a warped sense of slim due to the fact I was close to 250lbs for many years.

So I am asking the question above to gauge :)

5'5 and a half
I fluctuate between 8.5 to 9 stone.
When I'm 8.5, I'm most comfortable.
IF I ever drop a couple of pounds under 8.5, I feel SOOOOOO confident.

It's totally fucked tho'. Sometimes I feel like I've been conditioned.

Then I think that some women don't feel their confident best til they apply their make up...

I guess we all have our hang ups

In addition to above, I am (roughly) size 12 up top, and skirts/jeans a 10.... so sorry if like an upside down pear.
My limbs are slim tho.
The only way I can get my legs to look and feel sturdy is to keep up the daily squats.

My waist last time I measured, was 30.5 inches.

Not measured bust or hips.

I don't particularly like weighing myself, I tend to know if I've increased in weight, if my clothing feels tighter than usual.

I find these threads really interesting, with how much much individual variance in frame and bone density must impact weight. I’d always heard ‘blaming big bones’ is an excuse, but some people clearly have legitimately heavier skeletons.

I’m a bit over 5’6 and around 8st4, and I’ve hit the point well meaning friends and colleagues are giving me pamphlets for eating disorder dieticians and psychologists. My GP has set targets for me to gain a minimum of 1/2 a stone or so.

At 10.10 you are at the maximum weight for normal BMI. The minimum weight is about 7.10, so 9 stones is just over midway, it's not too thin at all.
I really do think that these days, because about half the population is overweight, people have lost sight of what slim actually is.

And people don’t seem to understand we all have different biology

I'm just over 5’5
I was always around 9 stone my whole adult life until I got an eating disorder. In actuality I dropped to never lower than 8st1 but my period stopped for many years, my hormone profile was totally deranged. I was always cold, irritable and my bone density plummeted. I had no breast tissue and my face was gaunt. I was never really less than a size 8 though even with such minimal body fat.

That half a stone made an enormous difference to how my body functioned. So whilst I may have still had a BMI in normal range, and 9 stone by your comment is ‘over half way in the range’, clearly for me it is bottom end of healthy.

I will add that over 9st10 I definitely look bigger than is ideal and carry the weight on my stomach and arse.

So my range is quite narrow but it is what is right for me.

We need to stop defining health in a stupid set of numbers that isn’t personalised. I agree we shouldn’t pretend obese is healthy but for some people the other metrics of health- hormones, energy, psychological health around eating and food are vital too.

Wow! They do this rather than talk to you so you can explain that you've seen your GP and it's OK?

Fundays12 · 10/01/2025 12:30

I am 5ft 5 and feel slim about 9st 2 to 9st 4 pounds. I am currently about 10st. I am quite small framed though so I think that makes the difference. I also like to be toned so try work out.

This. I was 9.5 stone at 5’4, extremely fit as I was an athlete training 2 hours a day minumum.

then somehow I got it in my head that 9.5 stone was near the top of my ideal weight, and I should be nearer 9st. Probably from magazines and friends making comments similar to those on this thread.

so I got to 9st. Which triggered an eating disorder. By the time I was 8.4 I was extremely unwell mentally and physically, but I still wasn’t near that minimum weight of about 7.5 so I still thought I had a bit to lose.

i was eating 800 calories a day and still training.

yet according to BMI I was “healthy”.

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 10/01/2025 12:45

I'm a bit over 5ft5 and legit feel slim at 11 stone, and very slim at 10. All my weight sits on my arse and thighs so at 11 stone I have a tiny waist and prominent collar bones and facial bones.

LostMyLanyard · 10/01/2025 12:50

LokiCroc · 05/01/2025 18:04

I'm 5'4 and have a goal weight bracket in mind of 10st to 9st7. Having been obese at 15st5 and currently overweight at 12st4, I have a long way to go.

I'm 5'4 and currently 15st 3lb (so almost exactly where you were!)

I've just started my 'weight loss marathon' and would be bloody thrilled if/when the scales start showing '12' instead of '15'...so well done so far!! 😍

If I may, could I ask how long it's taken to get to the '12 stone something' mark? It feels insurmountable to me right now, but I can't go on like this anymore...at 60 losing weight is bloody hard (sodding menopause 😔).

Thanks 🥰

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/01/2025 13:07

Im a bit shorter - 5’3” and my weight has varied between 9 and 10 stone most of my adult life. I feel good around 9 stone or just over.

Since being menopausal my weight has crept up to 10 stone which I’m not happy about. I still look slim-ish but my skirts feel tight. I’d love to lose about 8 lbs but I love food too much.

NoisyBear · 10/01/2025 13:14

It varies so much depending on frame. My dd is 5'4", I'm 5'6" we both weigh 8 and half stone. Dd has a tiny waist and is a size 4/6. I'm a size 8/10 with a much bigger waist and rib cage. I try and focus on what my body can do these days rather than what it looks it like and set fitness goals rather than weight/size goals.

They do it nicely, but in fairness my GP doesn’t think it’s ok either and has said if I don’t gain weight, I’ll need to be referred. So they aren’t necessarily wrong… and this isn’t coming from friends who are overweight themselves and possibly envious!

36and3 · 15/01/2025 05:54

I'm 5'4 and 57.5kg and feel horrible; it's the biggest I've ever been. I'm on day 4 of cutting out all sugar in the quest to drop 4kg.

MidnightMeltdown · 20/01/2025 19:56

I'm 5'6 and tend to go up half a stone every 5 years or so:

Teens: 8 st 7
Early 20s: 9 st
Late 20s: 9 st 7
Early 30s: 10 st
Mid 30s: 10 st 5
LOCKDOWN 11 st 5 😮
Currently late 30s and about 10 st 8 and a size 12

Feel too big atm, but definitely wouldn't want to be under 9st7 now. My face looks better when I'm heavier (up to a point). I'm curvy, even as a 8st7 teen I had boobs and a bum. Perfect weight for me is probably somewhere between 9st7 and 10st. I would feel very slim at 9st7.

this being mumsnet, you're about to get replies saying they feel best at 7.5 stones

And also the already multiple replies from people that aren't even 5ft 5

Wintersoltice · 27/01/2025 11:43

I was happy at 9 1/2 st but felt properly slim at 9 st.

Am now 11 at and feel fat 😫

BabCNesbitt · 05/01/2025 19:33

I’m 5’5” and currently 10st 7lbs, but I’m a size 16. I think I have bird bones, though, because so many other people on these types of threads are around a 12 at that weight. Ideally I’d weigh around 9st 4lbs - that’s the lightest I’ve managed post-breastfeeding, but that was after a period of unhappiness when I felt unable to eat.

Me too! 10.5 stone and size 14/16. Feel quite fat though and would ideally lose half a stone, which isn’t likely to happen any time soon as I love my food and not keen on exercise!

Mifiee · 27/01/2025 11:51

Am now 9st on the dot and feel slim.

I don't think inwant to go any lower.
