What is this virus that's going around

DH has been bed ridden since NYD with aches pains and generally feeling very unwell. One min he's hot then cold with an intermittent headache. He's been wiped out, worst I've ever seen him in 25 yrs.

What is it? Anyone else had this?

@ScribblingPixie my hubby has just been very sick there now with this hateful flu, it's horrific

I'm really hoping it doesn't take too long for improvement to kick in. He was up and about earlier but come 5pm he deteriorated age and is in bad with chills and has just vomited .

Just found this thread and is at least making me feel a bit less alone. Just coming to the end of Day 6. Temperature getting back to normalish and my throat no longer feels quite as much like glass but the cough, full sinuses, dizziness, fatigue (as opposed to sleeping- sleep is not something I’m being blessed with), nausea and general bleurgh feeling are still very much there. Hoping everyone else still feeling crap is on the mend very soon!

That sounds awful, and the way my OH was. He vomited initially then was pretty much out of it in bed for two days without eating and with bad chills and a cough before he started to slowly recover.

@ElleWoods15 it seems to be a horrible dose of flu this year. Funny you say about no sleeping cause my DH says he's wide awake even though he's getting no sleep. He's convinced if he could sleep he'd get better faster

Night before last I was almost in tears @clinkclankclop , just lying there, feeling knackered and awful but just wide awake and unable to do anything about it. Sympathy to your poor DH.

clinkclankclop · 04/01/2025 22:34

Aww it's awful. I'm glad you're making a bit of a recovery xxx it's awful when your sick

My oh was sick with this flu, only once luckily. He struggled to sleep though, he was exhausted, but the bad headache and coughing was stopping him from sleeping.

Mandoidi · 05/01/2025 11:57

Morning (just about) all. Just checking in.
Still struggling
Something horrid on my lungs now, crackly breathing and body wants to cough them up. Can't eat much without feeling sick and I basically have no appetite anyway.

Any ideas of what I should try to eat?

clinkclankclop · 05/01/2025 11:58

@Mandoidi my hubby had some dry toast this morning after being sick during the night. So far he's kept it down. He's got a sore head now and very tired ( which he hasn't felt previous)

Crackly lungs can be pleurisy. I had it once and it was so painful.

Oh that sounds nasty, im sorry to hear that. ❤️ I hope you recovered well

I'm debating calling the out of hours gp.
Nhs online suggests after 7 days of flu symptoms not improving, and I'm only on day 5.

I have no idea if they are improving because it honestly feels like different symptoms each day. Like I've had a different horrible respiratory Virus/infection EVERY DAYYYYYYYY 😫

Bless you its awful isn't it.
I was on liquids for days.
Cup a soup
Yoghurt
Herbal teas
Smoothies

I really couldn't stomach food. I think I had a good 3 days over Christmas where all I had was water and a few spoonfuls of yoghurt

Mandoidi · 05/01/2025 12:38

Cup a soup is a good call. I'd completely forgotten about those

Pointpoint · 05/01/2025 12:39

I’ve just puked my antibiotics and antiviral meds up again this morning. However I have made it out of bed today and to the sofa.

ScribblingPixie · 04/01/2025 17:05

Has anyone else got an upset stomach too? Not sure if it's part of my flu or I'm lucky enough to have two separate things going on at once 😞

This has hit me this morning 🥴 I've not been off the toilet!! I have so much to do today but I'm not at all sure how I'll manage. I feel so guilty - the teens have been housebound for almost a week first with their round of this virus and now me!

yamafi · 05/01/2025 14:04

Day 11 for me, the coughing last night made me feel like I was drowning, couldn't lie down. Couldn't get through to NHS24 so I just went to A&E ( little hospital round the corner) Doctor was lovely and I now have antibiotics for chest infection. I'm exhausted 😴

ElleWoods15 · 05/01/2025 14:10

Food wise, I’ve been having a bit of mashed potato with some grated cheese on (for texture/protein only- can’t taste it 😂😭) or plain pasta with a bit of olive oil. Rock and roll!

Yes, you can! I only learned about them from this thread! Did some tests today and it's influenza A that I have. And not covid

I know.

Im just annoyed at people saying it can’t be Covid and it has to be the flu because no one is testing.

In reality, symptoms are very similar and yes doing a test is the best way to know what you have (some tests actually check for Covid and the flu together).
Otherwise you can’t say if it’s one or the other (or something else totally different like RSV).
