What is this virus that's going around

DH has been bed ridden since NYD with aches pains and generally feeling very unwell. One min he's hot then cold with an intermittent headache. He's been wiped out, worst I've ever seen him in 25 yrs.

What is it? Anyone else had this?

Covid. I’m guessing a new variant or just the result of lots of Christmas household mixing so infection rates have shot up.

NeedToAskPlease · 03/01/2025 18:40

I've had a virus. Two weeks later I'm still not 100%. Got a lovely disciplinary to attend now as l have triggered on my sickness as I've had a run of minor infections requiring odd days off since April.. sigh...

I don't think it's covid, but if I do a test and it is I'll report back and stand corrected

The hospital I work in is full of it. We've gone back to masks in patient areas

BloodandGlitter · 03/01/2025 18:42

Flu, it's gone through our house too. 5 days of not eating or sleeping for me. Couldn't sleep for longer than 3 hours without waking, couldn't eat anything and just felt absolutely awful. Day 6 today and the appetite is back and I actually feel human again but still coughing with blocked sinuses and a now very sore chest from all the coughing.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 03/01/2025 18:44

Death on a plate.
I've been ill for over 2 weeks now. Only just getting over it.

BigDahliaFan · 03/01/2025 18:48

DH is only starting to look human again, he’s had it since day before Christmas Eve. Left house for first time today and he’s knackered now.hot and cold, sleeping all day…

I’ve got a really bad cough, headache and stuffy nose…I’ve had worse.

I had the flu jab, he didn’t…

ErniesGhostlyGoldTops · 03/01/2025 18:49

I got ill mid October. I've had two lots of amoxycillin and a course of Doxycycline. I only started to get well yesterday. I have been a non functioning zombie for weeks with it.

I caught swine flu a few years ago and my airway kept shutting off. Apart from that one symptom, this was by far the worst I have ever been.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/01/2025 18:49

Both a sister and a dd have it. Both seen several days ago so not sure how dh and I have escaped - so far, anyway.

Sparklysnowman · 03/01/2025 18:52

I've been wondering if I've got covid. Started a week ago, just feeling ill and my nose and fave feet on fire. Then an awful, chesty cough.

That stopped literally this morning and now I'm just wiped out. Still feel like my sinuses are bunged up and periodically on fire.

I've had both covid and flu jabs, as im asthmatic.

TizerorFizz · 03/01/2025 18:53

The flu vaccine is fine. Take up is too low! Far too many people don’t bother and then need hospital. We don’t help ourselves or the NHS. Obviously not including younger people here.

The analysis of ambulance use is that 2/5 should have seen a GP. It’s just not good enough.

WinterBones · 03/01/2025 18:57

im sorry, but come on, did you really need to ask what it was?

Classic Flu symptoms.

Suspect the latest covid strain. DSis turned up to ours over Christmas sneezing all over the shop...niece came the next day coughing all over the shop, 2-3 days later myself, DH, DS and DF came out with it so whatever it is it's pretty virulent.

popandchoc · 03/01/2025 19:06

I've had it . On day 7 and feeling a bit better but still coughing a lot and so tired. Tested today for covid and flu and negative for both so not sure but could have been too late to test.

CremeEggThief · 03/01/2025 19:06

Em 2 or 3 days is not really that long to be in bed with the flu at all...

I had a week off work when I had it in early December and am still coughing a bit and more tired a month on. Normal.

Influenza A

There's 4 nasty viruses going about. The flu one is particularly active. I think the vaccine isn't very effective this year. Whether it's because they picked the wrong strains or not.

Poor thing, hope he's on the mend soon

I don't know about that. I've just had flu, really nasty and was completely floored by it, spending Christmasin bed. I'm the only one in my family not to have had the vaccine. My dh had the slightest sore throat and that was it, my ds age 3 has had no symptoms and my dd had a mild version and gave it to me. We've been all mixing together over the time I've had it. So I think the vaccine in my house has been very effective. Lesson learnt, will def get the vaccine next autumn.

MyFuckRationsAreDepleated · 03/01/2025 19:22

Lots of flu around.

Tillow4ever · 03/01/2025 19:22

If you want to be sure, you can buy a LFT for flu (or flu and covid) from Amazon. That way you'll know if it's flu and which strain. From what I've read, Influenza A is doing the rounds!

I'm thoroughly expecting to be in bed recovering for a lot longer. I'm due to start work again on Monday but I don't think that will happen (even though I work from home)

Get him lemsip it was my saviour against the flu. I had exactly the same.

clinkclankclop · 03/01/2025 19:26

Yes lemsip definitely seems to be making it a lot more manageable

Had it very badly from the evening of Friday 20th Dec until Christmas Eve at which point I felt a fair bit better but not “right”. Still coughing today. So many colleagues have had time off sick.

My daughter works at Clinton's and she came home with the flu. Apart from that we don't mix.

everythingthelighttouches · 03/01/2025 19:30

Flu has quadrupled in the last couple of weeks . It is way higher than any of the other viruses at the moment and causing critical incidents in hospitals around the country.
