What do you drink before a night out?

What alcoholic predrinks do you and your friends have before a night out? I'm looking for inspiration as it's been a while since I've been out! I'm thinking white wine or prosecco however I tend to drink them too slowly..

OP posts:
pictoosh · 05/12/2024 19:22

A glass or two of red wine usually.

Gosh everyone is so boring!

Or grown up...

Gosh everyone is so boring!

Or are actual adults and don’t need to act like 18 year olds unable to afford a cocktail in Spoons?

I don’t know anyone over 30 who has pre drinks.

Im 56 and drinks (normally prosecco/cava/champagne) depending on occasion and location and nibbles is quite a normal pre-going out activity. It's not like we're downing shots once we get out. Wine with food and maybe a cocktail or 2. Though we don't tend to stay out that late anymore.

I always eat before I go out, even if dinner is involved, so happy to drink beforehand. I thought predrinks were the norm..

You eat and drink before going out to eat and drink…. Why?!

RamsaySnowsSausage · 05/12/2024 19:33

If you don't drink, or approve of pre-drinks, why comment on a thread asking for drink or pre-drink suggestions?

Passive aggressive and judgemental, pissing on OP's chips. Fair enough if she was asking for a wine paring for the school run (malbec) or what best to chug at work (baileys), but it's a light heated post about a rare night out.

I'd use it as a nice chance to make a fancy cocktail OP. Some lovely xmas cocktail recipes out there, nice garnishes etc - sets up the night as a special occasion.

Make sure you bin any left over spirits though, OP, what with your 'problem'!

🤣 just what I was thinking !!

I misunderstood the title. I thought OP meant "What should I drink to line my stomach before going on a bender".😁

IWantToBeADCC · 05/12/2024 19:39

Malibu and Coke usually if getting ready alone. Probably share a bottle of Prosecco if a friend/friends are with me before we go out.

This is mumsmet OP most only drink a thimble of sherry at Christmas and everyone else is an alcoholic.

Sometimes we have prosecco or a beer or a cocktail or a G&T. The ready mixed cocktails available practically anywhere these days are a good shout.

Potentiallyplausible · 05/12/2024 19:41

I’ve never heard of pre-drinks. I wouldn’t ever drink before going out - that’s what the going out is for.

RosieLeaf · 05/12/2024 19:42

Haven’t done predrinks since uni.

gannett · 05/12/2024 19:43

Depends what I'm going out to and who I'm with. DP and I before clubbing - he'll make some very nice cocktails. Mates before a festival, get the bottles of wine or prosecco in as I'll probably ease off drinking once inside. If I'm by myself at home and will be meeting people who've already been drinking, either a beer or whatever spirit and mixer combo is around, and probably just one so I can meet them on their level. If I'm going out to a restaurant, no predrinks at all unless I'm on holiday and have access to a nice aperitif.

BlueEyes90 · 05/12/2024 19:45

At home on your own or at a friends?
If at home I’d probably have some ciders or gin/whatever I fancy in the cupboard. If going somewhere I’d take something that’s easy to pour - what about M&S pre mixed cocktails?!

lightinthebox · 05/12/2024 19:48

Why comment on a thread asking a fun question just to be mean to the OP?

Oh right, it’s MN.

GreengrassofW · 05/12/2024 19:51

champagne or seccy 100%

twentysevendresses · 05/12/2024 19:57

Nothing! Why would I need 'pre-drinks'? (I've never heard of this 🤷‍♀️)

CherryColaZero · 05/12/2024 19:57

prosecco or white wine spritzer 😊 nothing wrong with a drink or two before going out, It’s incredibly expensive now 😒

mrsfollowill · 05/12/2024 19:58

DH and I have a drink before we go out - usually a couple of G&T's or share a bottle of prosecco. Our friends live out in the sticks so drive to our house close to the city and park at our house overnight.
We have a couple then before the taxi comes to take us into town. Even if it is just DH and I we still have couple as we are getting ready, put some music on and get in 'going out' mood. We are mid fifties not teens and have done this for yrs. We carry on with a few more once we are out and have a good time Grin

Poddingtonpeace · 05/12/2024 20:02

People who are moaning because people are saying nothing - we were asked. Yep, not joining in with the getting shit-faced crew is boring. But thank God those days are behind me! 😮‍💨

ToNiceWithSpice · 05/12/2024 20:03

Vodka and coke or prosecco and orange juice usually while I'm getting ready. If its with friends it's usually vodka and coke or sometimes cocktails

And I'm 46 so not young

CrushingOnRubies · 05/12/2024 20:05

If is making one I might have a weak g&t whilst getting ready but not very often

Because she asked? lol.

user2848502016 · 05/12/2024 20:05

Back in the day it would be alcopops, vodka shots or cheap white wine - that was 20 years ago though.
If I had to make pre drinks now I would probably make a jug of cocktail that isn't too strong so nobody gets completely plastered!

mathanxiety · 05/12/2024 20:06

Why would you drink before a night out?

That sounds like a recipe for ending up puking your guts up in a taxi a few hours later.
