What do you drink before a night out?

What alcoholic predrinks do you and your friends have before a night out? I'm looking for inspiration as it's been a while since I've been out! I'm thinking white wine or prosecco however I tend to drink them too slowly..

I always eat before I go out, even if dinner is involved, so happy to drink beforehand. I thought predrinks were the norm..

For students and young people, yes.

I don't eat before going out for a meal, nor do I normally pre-drink either.

However, I have been invited for a glass of wine at a friend's house before going for a Christmas meal out with a hobby group. The host won't see 80 again and the rest of us won't see 50 again Grin

Four hours to get ready?

What are you doing in that time?

WarmFrogPond · 06/12/2024 07:20

Littleguggi · 05/12/2024 20:50

I'm starting to wonder if some people live under a rock..

Bluntly, no. I can just afford the drinks at my destination. If your friends are going to be at your house for a while, that’s another matter.

OP, ignore the fun police. I do not however, pre drink any more! The reason for this is because A I rarely go out and B if I did by the time I got out I'd be absolutely shitfaced and embarrass myself.

I carb-load before I go out in the hopes that the food consumed will soak up the beverages.

The term 'pre-drinks' also makes me stabby.

Don't go fancy with your drinks at home though, just wine.

fiualdje · 06/12/2024 07:25

lol at some of the responses. DH and I have a big work thing for him tonight, we'll buy some Moth margarita cans to drink in our room whilst getting ready, even he won't know many people there tonight, it's a formal function and it'll be nice to have relaxed a little before we get there rather than working into the room stone cold sober. I will blast the killers from my phone and ask him to straighten my hair so it feels like 2005 Grin

A big glass of milk for me before going out.

Username917778 · 06/12/2024 07:45

If I'm at home I quite like something fizzy, cava etc puts me in a good mood. If I'm staying in a hotel then the M&S cocktail cans are very tasty (although do have a higher alcohol content than most, so be careful with those!)

RampantIvy · 06/12/2024 07:47

DD will be drinking fat frog cocktails while getting ready to go to her Christmas do. It's a mixture of WKD blue, orange bacardi breezer and Smirnoff ice. She is 24.

The only point of 'predrinks' is to help you get drunk cheaper than pub/club prices. I'm not interested in getting drunk. If I'm going out it's to socialise with people while having a few drinks. I am not boring and will happily get up and dance without being drunk. I'll enjoa few drinks/get tipsy but it's not the be all and end all of the night. I'm not a fan of hangovers so if I'm drinking, I make sure I alternate water to avoid them.

That's one aspect of pre drinks (when you're 18), but it's also to just get to the point you are relaxed and ready to socialise, we are going to an event that'll have stupidly cheap drinks tonight, we will have a couple before we go to take off the edge of nervousness of small talk with lots of people we don't know, we are not intending to get drunk and not worried about the price of drinks. Lots of people meet for a drink before these events, it's really not unusual.

Beezknees · 06/12/2024 08:18

I'll normally have prosecco or some of those pre mix cans.

I don't drink anything before a night out, I save myself for the main event.

My exact thought!

To you maybe, not to me! A pre drink for me is just getting into the spirit before the night out while getting ready. I don't get drunk, I have a fairly high alcohol tolerance especially if I'm eating as well.

ExquisiteDecorations · 06/12/2024 08:21

A lot of the replies seem to have mis-read the OP. The question was “what do you pre-drink”, not “do you pre-drink”. Why bother replying and cluttering up the thread if you don’t have any suggestions?

That must be an interesting shade when it comes back up!

I thought the alcopops of my youth had fallen mercifully by the wayside. Horrified to learn that they have actually combined instead

yakkadeez · 06/12/2024 08:30

@Littleguggi Pre-drinker right here 👋 I normally have a cocktail or a fruit cider (whilst listening to music and dancing round the bedroom) before a night out! Have fun!

20 years ago maybe

SallyWD · 06/12/2024 08:36

Nothing. I don't like to drink too much so I'll have two or three drinks when out. I don't want anymore than that. In my teens and 20s I'd drink before a night out and get way too drunk.

unmemorableusername · 06/12/2024 08:36

Vodka & Pepsi max.

Need the caffeine!

For you maybe, but not everyone!

If my friends and I go out into town for an evening out, they’ll often all get dropped off my partners at mine (I live closer!) and we have a couple of drinks and a catch up, and then get a taxi into town together. It’s nothing to do with wanting “cheaper” drinks as we can afford pub/club prices, it’s just part of our night and we enjoy it.

BottomlessBrunch · 06/12/2024 08:43

Mainly Prosecco as it's light and gives you that buzz!

OP I get you I'm similar age and meaning that I'm not a student anymore the type of places that are nice to go to with friends charge between £10-£15 a drink.

I'm happy with a pub and Wetherspoons on occasions but sometimes it's nice to get dressed up and go on a night out but £25 on 2 drinks to not even feel a little tipsy is annoying so pre-drinks are the norm for me and my late 30/40 year old friends too.

People are quite scathing about alcohol generally on here I've found and doesn't reflect real life even amongst my friends who don't drink.
