What do you drink before a night out?

What alcoholic predrinks do you and your friends have before a night out? I'm looking for inspiration as it's been a while since I've been out! I'm thinking white wine or prosecco however I tend to drink them too slowly..

No, the question in the OP was 'What do you drink before a night out?'. So 'nothing' is a perfectly valid answer to that question.

If you read the actual OP not just the thread title you'd see the actual question was "What alcoholic predrinks do you and your friends have before a night out?"

So "nothing" is a singularly unhelpful reply.

mamajong · 07/12/2024 09:59

Peace Bellinis, bloody Mary's, whatever else people bring!

CandyCane457 · 07/12/2024 09:59

I agree, all the “nothing” posts are just pointless, unhelpful, and get in the way of all the relevant replies where people are actually giving drink suggestions/sharing what they like!

Not really - we shouldn't normalise drinking to get drunk. It would be wrong to give the impression that pre-drinks are a universal thing when going on a night out.

DilemmaDelilah · 07/12/2024 10:44

I'm ancient and drink very little, plus 'going out' has never meant 'going out to get drunk' to me, although I have certainly returned home drunk in the past. So no pre-drinks for me.

I don’t think anyone has gone so far as to suggest it’s a universal thing, I think OP was just asking for some drink suggestions for a fun girls night.

No, but if the thread was filled with post after post saying 'gin' 'Prosecco' etc. then that's the impression it would create.

It’s just a bit of light fun, don’t worry about it!

Someone close to me has cirrhosis of the liver, so this is something I worry about.

Are we a public health service? How serious.
I thought this was a chat forum and adults are able to choose for themselves. Who knew?

Choosing for themselves is exactly my point - people should be able to feel comfortable not drinking before a night out, rather than feeling they are the odd one out, so it's reasonable for people to post that their choice is not to have pre-drinks.

pictoosh · 07/12/2024 11:34

Cool...but don't be haughty about it.

CitizenZ · 07/12/2024 11:39

Why do people always come on Alcohol related threads and get all holier than thou? I don't go on the numerous Mounjaro threads to brag that I am slender or accuse the posters of normalising being overweight.

Bore off.

It's not holier than thou to say you don't drink before a night out. By posting that you don't, you are acknowledging you do go on a night out, and may well drink at the pub or wherever, but you're not tanking yourself up beforehand with the intention of getting drunk more quickly or cheaply.

RampantIvy · 07/12/2024 11:49

A night out for me is a meal with a drink. I can't drink too much these days so I drink when I am out rather than before I go out.

Re DD's fat frog drinking - they continued with cocktails with the meal and she feels fine. I suspect the cocktails at the pub were not very strong.

<shrug> It's an open forum. On any given topic you can expect a range of opinions, especially on topics that provoke strong opinions.

The question was asked, what do people drink before a night out. 'Nothing' is a perfectly reasonable answer.

Of course it is. Odd how some people have taken offence.

I answered nothing, said I saved myself for the main event, simply because if I did drink before I went out, I possibly wouldn't make it to 'out'....I'm very lightweight nowadays.😴

Littleguggi · 07/12/2024 13:26

And there's nothing wrong with that as a response, but some pps have chosen to be judgemental and superior over their choices.

In what way? You can’t be so exciting if you don’t know what to drink before you go out…

SuzieNine · 07/12/2024 13:34

Nothing. I thought pre-drinking was only something that impecunious students did.

AmICrazyToEvenBother · 07/12/2024 13:44

I do this sometimes, OP. We tend to go to a particular friend's house, have a couple of gin and tonics and a catch up and get a taxi into town together. Some of the places we go to are a little put of the way, though.

I'm solidly middle aged 😂
