I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

No wonder the workings of the Probate Office were a subject close to the heart of Charles Dickens.

We woke this morning to a thick coating of ice all over the metro area. I almost came a cropper heading down my back stairs to the garden path but caught the ice covered handrail. I hacked enough ice off my windshield and side windows to give me a fairly good range of vision and set off for work. They had salted the main streets, but the side streets were a skating rink. Home again now, and we're having a stunning pink sunset, with a funny pinky-greeny colour to the atmosphere. The days have got a lot longer since Christmas.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/02/2025 00:00

I've taken emergency action against the baby. It's not pretty, but was necessary. Geeeez.... I can't post the pic! 🤦‍♀️

I've used painter's tape to tape a chest of drawers shut. 😂

In other news: had a good long walk with dc for about 90 mins in -2c (bundled up, of course) then made a pot of soup. Mixed up then cooked meatballs in Dutch oven, added a kettle of boiling water, chopped tomatoes and a couple cups of frozen mixed veg then popped lid on for about 20 mins and added ramen noodles. Was just what was needed on this chilly day.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 07/02/2025 11:30

That sounds so delicious.

What did you do to baby Havoc?! :D

it's lovely now the days are starting to lengthen isn't it @mathanxiety

Cold here too, hoping to go for a swim soon but time is tight. Grandma is coming with food tonight, yay.

DandyDandylion · 07/02/2025 14:44

I seem to remember having lots of empty lower shelves and drawers when mine were that age Havoc. That and lots of handle locks. There really isn’t any reasoning with a newly mobile baby. My ds had all his Lego and precious toys in a playpen so she couldn’t bother him!
It feels colder here than the forecast today but at least no ice/snow. Quiet day of housework for me but we are off to collect the little manual car this evening.

sproutsandparsnips · 07/02/2025 16:14

Sorry about the health insurance problem @DucklingSwimmingInstructress - that must be very stressful. The middle of the night is always the worst time for worrying, even though we know it won't achieve anything!
Sounds like baby is very busy @Mumtobabyhavoc!
It is definitely colder feeling than the thermometer would suggest @DandyDandylion - I think it's the chilly breeze.
I am not looking forward to standing in the cold up the valley tonight watching DS play. I have bought some thermal leggings. He is happy because after his interview yesterday Birmingham Uni have emailed to say they will be making him an offer. Now to get the grades.......

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 07/02/2025 18:37

that's great news about the offer @sproutsandparsnips - good luck with the grades!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/02/2025 18:56

Not to worry Ducky, it was just taping the drawers shut much to baby's annoyance. It's now an entertainment again as baby peels tape off. 🤦‍♀️
Great news for ds Sprouts! 👏
Dandy, exciting re new car. 🤗

It's a gorgeous sunny day here and -2c. 🌤️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/02/2025 18:57

Oh! It's back! This is my solution for the time being.

New feature.... image under review. 🤔

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 07/02/2025 20:48

image under review? hm, better than before but it will take them a while to get through everything !

Does baby havoc adore cardboard boxes yet? :D

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/02/2025 21:05

Ducky, Baby likes anything in cupboards and drawers, ie pot/pans/muffin tins, colander/plastic bowls, oven mitts/pot holders/tea towels, toilet paper and dryer lint and the garbage bin with all its' wonders. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂

MissConductUS · 07/02/2025 21:19

Havoc, at that age, my DD loved going into a room, pulling out all of the drawers and emptying the contents onto the floor. She did this at least twice to our kitchen. We called her the child of mass destruction.

I'll try posting some pictures later of the worktops and see what happens.

We're in for 4-7 inches of snow on Sunday, then more next week. This has turned into an awful winter.

OP posts:
sproutsandparsnips · 07/02/2025 22:14

@MissConductUS that sounds like a lot of snow!
No snow here at all yet this winter and none last I don't think. We are quite far west.

MissConductUS · 07/02/2025 23:12

And we're expecting more snow next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Crikey.

Here are the countertops, assuming these pictures pass the AI filter or whatever MN is doing to screen them.

I seem to remember having one cupboard with some old things for my little ones to empty out in the kitchen. They loved banging pans with a wooden spoon and putting things in and out of a plastic tub. Everything else was behind cupboard locks to save my sanity.
That sounds like a decent amount of snow MissC I assume living remotely you have a well stocked freezer in case you get snowed in. Love the look of your worktops and sink but have you not bothered with a draining board?

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 08/02/2025 13:06

The work surfaces look lovely!

Still love your floor.

MyrtleStrumpet · 08/02/2025 20:32

The kitchen looks amazing!

Results of the mammogram are negative 😃

It was our wedding anniversary yesterday so DH provided champagne and flowers, a beautiful cashmere jumper and emergency socks. We then had dinner at a newly opened (Nov) restaurant. It has teething problems but we'll try it again in six months.

Finished with a drink in the pub, which was a mistake as I fell asleep almost immediately we got home.

A book nook model arrived today. I've not done these before and it requires glue and a scalpel (I have these) but it's very fiddly. I'll see how it goes but I might not do another one.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/02/2025 21:09

Glad to hear about your test results @MyrtleStrumpet and belated happy anniversary. 💕

MyrtleStrumpet · 08/02/2025 21:10

Thank you!

MissConductUS · 09/02/2025 17:15

Dandy, in addition to the enormous fridge/freezer you see in the pictures, I have a 20 cubic foot upright freezer and a smaller fridge/freezer in the garage. So we have plenty of food, just nowhere to cook it! So we have to plan takeaways in bad weather to make sure we have some leftovers to heat up in the microwave. I'm not that remote, either. The closest grocery store is about three miles away. I do have a drainboard, but there's no water at the sink, so there's no point in putting it out. I also want to get a nicer one that will go better with the new look of everything.

We went out to dinner last night before the snow started. We got about four inches, which DH cleared this morning with the snowblower. But there's more in the forecast still for Tuesday.

Duckling and Myrtle, thanks, we really like the look of it now too. The worktops are lovely. I just wish we didn't have to wait until Friday to get the backsplash in, as that's holding up the plumbing and hooking the stove up.

Myrtle, congratulations on your negative test results and wedding anniversary.

Tuesday is DS's birthday, so I've ordered a cake. He gave me a list of presents he wants, so that's all done too.

I'm leaving a week from Wednesday for a work meeting in Orlando and coming home the following Saturday. I can't wait to swim in the pool and get out of this horrendous winter we've been having. I'll post many pictures, as I did last year when I attended this meeting.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 09/02/2025 17:58

Good news about the scan result! And congratulations on the anniversary @MyrtleStrumpet
Might you have a pic of the book nook model? :)

we've got a minorly cold snap coming in the next few days but nothing like you guys in N America. The water was 4.2 degrees C today.

MyrtleStrumpet · 09/02/2025 18:33

Thank you!

The book nook is called Holo Magic City. I attach two pictures. One of the finished model and I've marked the other with the bits I've done. I've completed a lot more but they're not visible in the image.

I'll take some pictures of the bits I've finished tomorrow morning when the light is better so you can see what I've done.

The instructions are to make all the tiny details before building the whole thing. The wood is fragile in places and breaks so I've had to glue bits. And the colours in the instructions are not the same as the ones I have, so I accidentally used my "globe" bead on something else.

It's annoying that some of the images are stickers that are placed on the wood, but others are paper images that need to be cut out and glued. The level of detail is very impressive.

I have completed 6 pages of 16 so far which is about 10 hours of work.

It's warming up here, Ducky.
Myrtle, that looks complicated.

DC are fascinated by my belly button. I'm lying on my bed and each is taking turns putting their fingers into it. Havoc is, apparently, a belly button doctor.

MyrtleStrumpet · 09/02/2025 19:20

It is very complicated and fiddly. I'm glad I'm doing it because the level of detail is amazing, particularly because some of it probably won't be seen in the final model.

However, I'm used to slotting together wooden models that don't need glue and where snapping a piece when pressing it out of the template is rare. And having spent ten hours on it so far and five hours today, it's disappointing that there aren't more pieces.

I am enjoying it though, as it's very absorbing and I'm sure at some point it will all come together very quickly.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/02/2025 19:56

Myrtle, you have more patience than me!

Watching a doc on 90's boy bands, "The 90's Boy Band Boom." Have also made cranberry choc chip cinnamon buns. I ate two. Havoc scoffed one before I had even made a latte. I heard, Mummy, I like this! I turned around and a little face was covered in chocolate and smiling. 💕😍🥹
