I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

I think most learner drivers must have manual cars here as I looked for instructors with automatic cars and couldn’t see any locally. Apparently if you only pass your automatic test you will always pay more for your car insurance. I guess statistically you are a higher risk as the test is easier? Anyway ds is a keen horse rider so may want to drive a lorry as an adult and they are all manual here. I accept my dd who has dyspraxia may not manage gears but she is keen to have a go on the drive and has plenty of time. The car was as described so we pick it up next week. My car is electric and I don’t like charging it away from home so I look forward to using the new car for occasional longer journeys.
All this talk of home improvements is making me want to get on with redoing our bathroom. We have done quite a lot in the last two years though so need to save up again.

If you pass your test in an automatic car, you're not legally allowed to drive a manual gear car: ^If you take your test in a semi-automatic car you’ll only be able to drive automatic and semi-automatic cars once you’ve passed your test. (From https://www.gov.uk/driving-test/using-your-own-car)^

So you'll be considered a risk as you can drive a manual.

Having driven a manual for years, including an MGB GT as my first car, my DH only drives automatics. I've driven an automatic for 10 years and I wouldn't go back.

Miss You’re really embracing this “making words seem Welsh” and I’m loving it 😄. Next step would be to learn some actual welsh, try “fy enw i ydy Miss” (vuh enw ee uhdee miss phonetically ish). My name is Miss. Dead easy 😁. I reckon everyone on the thread should give it a go!
Myrtle that clock is amazing! Well done

I am debating whether I should bother watching the opening match of the rugby 6 Nations (France v Wales) and am concluding that it’s probably not the best option. My brother has gone and just sent me a photo of the inside of the stadium. He’s in for a long evening I reckon.

I Started to learn Welsh on Duolingo in 2022, purely because I love Wales & we often holiday in North-west Wales and the language is so melodic. Sadly I gave in 2023 when life went tits up. I keep thinking I must start again.

A bit premature! The clock is unfinished because I broke a bit some years ago and then lost some of the other parts. ROKR are really good at supplying spares for a low price but it will take a few weeks before they arrive.

I'll post a pic when it's done. You can tell my creation because you can see the blind and the radiator.

SardinesOnGingerbread · 31/01/2025 21:36

I found a very nice vulva balm (that's not a typo) that is making my poor dried out perimenopausal labia feel much happier. Small wins, people. Between that and a nice new ring pessary for the prolapse got on Monday, and I only feel about eighty today, at the age of 47.

sproutsandparsnips · 31/01/2025 21:53

Ah @Deathraystare your situation sounds very difficult - hop3 it improves soon for you.
Watching Wales play - they are having a hammering. I don't think they are playing really badly but France are awesome. I'm hoping they will get points on the board at least.
DS2's team had their first win for at least 2 years a couple of weeks ago. I actually had a tear in my eye. They are such a nice bunch of boys and were so thrilled with the win. Both teams played so well - and due to lower numbers they are actually teaming up with their opponents to play another team next week. It's that sort of cooperation that benefits everyone I think. We had some great pictures and videos from a local photographer and DS was really pleased.....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 31/01/2025 22:30

😵‍💫

I'm about to take a nap. Baby is asleep. Havoc is parked in front of Disney tv.

Deathraystare · 01/02/2025 11:04

Ahhhhh! Constipation gone, feel 2 stone lighter!!! Did not use sennacott in the end. It happened naturally!!!

Just been to Sainsburys and got some lunches and dinner and a top and 2 pair leggings. I seem to live in leggings and joggers!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/02/2025 03:14

Death and @SardinesOnGingerbread Glad things have worked out.

I've just made and finished dinner while watching the news. The US has implemented huge tariffs on our exports there. In response we've done same. Provincially, our Premier has directed our Crowns to stop buying US goods. 🤦‍♀️ I won't say anything further since our thread is so lovely.

Oh! Dinner was lamb chops which I started by seasoning then pan frying and then finished in the oven with pesto and a slice of feta on each chop. I served with spaghetti tossed in a pan with grape tomatoes, arugula, feta and sun dried tomatoes; and I sautéed asparagus with garlic. Going to have a slice of cake shortly. Maybe two.
Bought a lemon meringue cake.

YOu know, reading all your delicious meals is slightly motivating me to try harder. I fell into a lazy habit of very plain food as one autistic kid will only eat broccoli and potatoes, the other TEO child cauliflower and pasta or rice, and cooking two separate meals at the end of the day was too much. TEO is twice-exceptional, meaning much too bright and 'different' with it.

Your food is so delicious that it makes my taste buds water.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 02/02/2025 14:22

Went for a swim, the water was cold and the sun was really quite warm. Beautiful blue sky. Heaven !

I wonder if I should have slathered on loads during my last smear test. KY does not seem to help!. I think female nurses and doctors are quite spiteful (My dad agreed with me!!). The first time I had a smear was when I was 11 and had thrush. It was a male doctor and I felt absolutely no discomfort at all! Now I am like a cartoon cat - stiff on the ceiling and they go "just relax!. Yeah right!

MissConductUS · 02/02/2025 15:28

We went out to the diner for dinner last night. I had chicken Marsala, which was excellent. I brought home half as leftovers, as the portions are always very large. We're expecting snow starting late afternoon and continuing until 2:00 AM Monday, so it's best if we don't have to go out tonight to get a takeaway.

Yesterday, we unpacked a lot of boxes into the cabinets. We can't put anything in the drawers until the worktops are installed tomorrow. I think my old cabinets were about 2-3 inches deeper. Fortunately, we have a lot more cabinets then we used to.

@MyrtleStrumpet, I've measured our shower, and it's 39" by 36" and seems plenty roomy, so yours should be fine. When we had ours redone during covid, our lady builder added "shampoo nooks" in the back wall, which are convenient shelves for putting your shower products on.

DS went to look at an apartment yesterday. The building was very nice and had lots of amenities, but it was a one-room apartment (what we call a studio apartment) and about the limit of what he could afford. He really wants a flat with a separate bedroom, so he'll keep looking. I'm secretly pleased that it looks like he'll be with us for a while. The town he's looking at is closer to his work but about 45 minutes away from us. That's not terrible. We'll offer to buy him a new bed for his flat so that he can stay with us when he wants to.

That dinner of yours sounds very appealing, Havoc. But then, they always do. We’ve been hearing over here that Mark Carney (ex-Governor of the Bank of England) is a possible to be your next PM - he certainly has some strong views about Trump’s tariff shenanigans.

MissC, how great to be able to put things back into your new cupboards!

I've just come back from a careful walk out for a coffee with DH, on a lovely but cold afternoon. This morning I was taking a load of washing out of the machine when I felt my lower back go. Not doing anything silly or bending wrongly. I’m furious as my back has been fine for months and my physio has been pleased with me - we'd gone to 2-monthly check-ups. Now I have a week ahead that includes a work trip by train and I don’t know if it’ll be possible if I can’t get things back to normal (no pun intended) before Wednesday ☹️

DandyDandylion · 02/02/2025 17:03

I think the best said about politics at the moment the better Havoc, your situation is reminding me of brexit. I have never eaten a cake with meringue icing, looks fantastic.
I am so glad my autistic brood will eat most things and are actually quite adventurous Ducklings. Dd does have a sensory feedback food issue though and has to touch everything before she can put it in her mouth. Watching her eat cereal is impossible for me as she scoops it onto her spoon, touches it then puts it in her mouth. I have always tried to be so chilled around food but this does push my buttons. She also likes to take things out of her mouth, swish them with her fingers then put them back. Was hoping she would’ve grown out of it all by now but at least she will eat most things.
I probably need a new kitchen MissC just to sort all my food out. I found a posh vinegar at the back of a cupboard this week that went out of date in 2013.
Hope the back gets better soon Hilda it’s one of the worst pains.
Dd and I had a lovely day today visiting the port sunlight museum. She couldn’t believe they had real Roman artefacts with a polite note on asking people not to touch them. Most museums have things like that behind glass.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 02/02/2025 18:16

Oh that's nice that you can actually put your nose right close to the Roman artifacts!

@HildaTablet hope your back improves. IIRC Mark Carney was considered to have done a good job at the Bank of England? If that's the case then hopefully he'll be a good contender, as long as he values humans as well as money. From what people say Pierre Poilievre is pretty horrible.

There's something about having a room as a separate bedroom isn't there @MissConductUS Being able to shut the door separates the everyday from the peace of nighttime.

Reading Siddhartha atm for Book Club. Not quite sure what to make of it yet.

MyrtleStrumpet · 02/02/2025 18:19

That works out at 1000mm x 914mm. We have 900x900 and they're proposing 1000x800. As DH is 6'2" and large around the middle, we would prefer to stay the same or go up to 1000x900 if possible. We have no space to indent into the walls but they are proposing a set of corner baskets.

We recently had fish cakes and discovered our tartar sauce was out of date bya year. When DH bought more he found it runs out in October. I think it shows how little we eat fish :(

I have ordered three more models which should arrive by Thursday. A ship, a cabin and Notre Dame Cathedral.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/02/2025 01:43

Dandy, museum sounds great!
Hilda, left overs tonight...just made the pasta fresh and put chopped up lamb on top. Easy as.
I also have back problems. I hope you recover quickly.
Myrtle, it's easy to make tartar sauce. It's also much nicer.

That lemon meringue cake was one of the best cakes I've ever had. I also tried the Earl Grey cake and that one was delicious. (Surprisingly!) I might order that one next time I need a cake... ie Easter. I usually get a cake on Valentine's Day, but atm it seems too close for a whole cake again. (Or, does it!🤔)
Watching a doc on Christopher Reeve. Trying to tune out the political chat.
Oh! We had quite a dump of snow today. Roads look clear now, thankfully.

mathanxiety · 03/02/2025 02:19

I spent the day doing a deep clean of the kitchen after going down a rabbit hole of cleaning videos on Saturday. DD made chocolate chip cookies, and we had homemade mushroom soup and bread for dinner, with a spinach salad.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2025 01:48

I could go for homemade cookies, Math! 😛

Spent the afternoon with dc on a snowy walk around the neighbourhood then Havoc and I at the playground and another quick walk then home. Made popcorn then a pizza dough and pizza now in the oven. It's pesto, left-over lamb chops, sun-dried tomatoes, feta, rocket with cheddar and Swiss on top.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/02/2025 01:48

It has, because there was some absolutely grim stuff on the site posted by someone who kept re-registering and re-posting deep in the night when no official mods with the power to stop it were awake. It's in Site Stuff.

Havoc, it's not pretty, and you have small children, it might be wiser not to look.

I read posts complaining about it being reported but still being posted on multiple threads. I reported other "solicitation" type threads. I guess it was necessary to disable the pic feature as you said. I thought it might be a re-vanp and it might be a premium feature if you pay.
